You know you are meant for more. You can feel it in your bones.  The question you keep asking yourself is "What do I have to do to get it?"

The issue is thats the wrong question to be asking.

You don't get results according to what you do.  Your actions are just the symptom - and for that matter so are your results. The cause is the identity from which you operate.

The good news is that it's not has difficult to rewire that identity as you might think.

In this episode I show you how it happened for me in an instant.

Change does not take time when you are really ready for it. If you are REALLY ready to start realizing that untapped potential you know you have inside of you - then this episode was made for you.

The version of you now that exists right here in this moment, listening to this podcast, is at point A. That version of you that you dream of, that you envision, that might be on your vision board, they are at point B. These two people have different identities and operate from very different belief systems. Change doesn't start with what you do. Change starts with who you are. I'm your host, Kendall Keaton, and this is the identity advantage. All right. Um, it's just me and you today, and buckle up, listen up, because we are going to have ourselves a conversation. We are going to talk about some beliefs that you might have that might be the very thing that is keeping you from getting what you want. Every single belief that you have is deciding the thoughts that you think, which is triggering the emotions you feel, which is giving you motivations to take whatever action it is that you take and giving you results. And those results are reinforcing the original belief, right? This is our identity loop. This is what builds our identity and who we think we are in this world. Every single thing that you believe dictates the things that you do. And everything you do will dictate what you get. Knowing your beliefs, your core beliefs. And I'm talking the beliefs that you don't know you have. I'm talking about beliefs that were taught to you through your life, through the examples that you saw, through things that were said to you. You have beliefs that you don't know you had. One of these arose for me recently in a podcast. I was doing, I was being a guest on someone else's podcast, and we were talking about change and identity shift. And there was a conversation that I had with my daughter when she was like 15. She is almost 20 now. And the simple that this one conversation shifted my belief in an instant. Now we can do work to shift our beliefs if we know that we have them. I didn't know this was the belief that I had until I had this conversation with my daughter, and it changed everything. When this belief switched, and I'm talking in an instant switched, every single thing I did from then on changed. The switching of this belief is what got me unstuck because up until this point I had felt very stuck. I was still working at UPS, I was trying to make changes, there was not a lot happening, my situation didn't seem to be changing, and I couldn't figure out what to do to make it better. I really had almost got to the point where it was like, you know, maybe this is just what I'm gonna have to do. I'm just gonna have to remain at this job because I have children I need to take care of. And I was having a conversation with my daughter. She is, so she's 20 now, she was 15, I think, at the time. She was going into, I think, her junior year in high school. And we were having that conversation that we have with our kids. Like, what do you think you want to do in college? Do you want to go to college? Um, do you want to try to play ball in college? Like, what do you want to do? And I remember telling her, you just need to really find something that you love. I want you to find something that you love. Do as much of that as you can possibly do and just trust that the money will follow. And no matter how much money does follow, if you're doing something you love every single day, you won't mind if you're not making a lot of money. Just don't chase a career that you don't love. Because if you don't like what you're doing on a day-to-day basis, you're also probably not going to be happy no matter what paycheck is coming in. You've got to be happy. You spend the majority of your life at work. You need to enjoy what you do. Those words came out of my mouth, and the feeling of hypocrisy that came over me was almost instantaneous. I was being such a hypocrite in that moment, telling her to do the very thing I was telling myself not to do. The belief that I had that was running a very large portion of my life and my decisions at that time was that being a good mom meant making safe choices. Being a good mom meant not taking risk. And in that moment, that belief switched. And my belief became being a good mom means setting the example. Being a good mom means modeling the behavior you want to see. And in that moment, my reason for not taking risk, my reason for not leaving UPS, for not leaving my nine to five, became the reason I had to leave. It became the reason I had to take the risk. Because if my belief, the belief I choose, the belief that is running the things that I do is that I am not being a good mom unless I'm setting the example, you can be damn sure I'm going to start setting the example. Because one of my goals is definitely to be the best mom that I can be. And if that means setting the example of what I want them to do, then I cannot allow myself to remain in a job that does not fill me up, that I don't love and that I'm not passionate about. If my belief is being a good mom means modeling the proper behavior, then staying in my job, continuing to work for somebody else, was a betrayal of who I was as a person. Your beliefs create your identity. Your identity is who you think you are, and you will never want to act outside of your identity, the identity you own. If my identity is that of a mom who believes that being a good mom means not taking risk, I will never ever take a risk because I think I'm being a bad mom by doing it. But the moment I change my belief, and my belief becomes being a good mom means setting the example and modeling the behavior, my actions will reflect that. And all of a sudden, I actually started taking some massive action. I started seeing my side hustle turn into a side business, turn into a main business. I was trying to do those things before, but my belief system was all wrapped up around not taking risks. So that all the thoughts that I had that came from that belief were feeding emotions that were very fearful and anxiety ridden. If I had a thought that said, hey, you need to figure out how to leave this job, and my belief is don't take a risk, then my emotion is fear and anxiety. Worry. Those are negative emotions. And negative emotions will never motivate you to take a positive action. Negative emotions will avoid. Negative emotions will make you hesitate, procrastinate, overthink, analysis, paralysis. They will make you take actions that feel productive but are not needle moving. So I was doing things, but I was avoiding the actions that would actually move me to where I wanted to be, because where I wanted to be was risky, and that belief did not line up with that result. I want you to picture in your mind a circle, and at the top of the circle is a belief. And then as you move towards the right, you move like clockwise, there's a thought that comes from that belief. And that thought feeds an emotion. And that emotion, now at the bottom of this circle, is motivation. That emotion will motivate you. And according to your motivation, you will act. That's the next piece is action. We're moving around the circle. And then that next piece is the result that you get from that action. And then result connects back to your belief. This is a circle, it is a pattern, it is a motor, and it is running in the background of your mind constantly. Whatever beliefs you have, you will think, feel, and act from them and get results that always enforce the original belief. That loop over and over ingrains. It's wiring your brain, it's connecting the neurons in your brain. And that is your identity loop, and it becomes who you believe that you are. Not who you are, not who you're meant to be, not who you want to be, who you believe that you are. And if you have a belief that in any way, shape, or form feeds you thoughts and emotions that make you feel like risk is bad or a betrayal, you will never do the thing you need to do to change your circumstance. You have to find what that belief is. What is that belief that is making you avoid the actions you know you have to take? Because nine times out of ten, it's not a lack of knowing what to do. We usually know at least one or two things we could do. We might tell ourselves we need clarity, I'm just not sure yet. But you know something, and if you are not doing doing that thing, find out why. And why is the question you ask? And you ask it about your thoughts and your emotions. Find yourself avoiding something, right? I'm not doing that thing. Why? What is the emotion I'm feeling? Why would I be feeling that emotion? That question will take you to a thought, and then ask again, why would I think that thought? Ask again, well, why would I think that? And eventually you will get to a belief and you will know it when you get there. That is what has to change. If you have found yourself really having a hard time either grabbing the thoughts or changing the thoughts, there might be a belief somewhere, this deep-seated rooted belief that is sabotaging everything that you want, everything that you desire. Because it is not in alignment. What you desire, what you want, that goal you're trying to achieve, or that level you are trying to rise to is the result in that equation, in that circle. That is the result. If the belief that starts the entire pattern does not line up with that result, you will never make it there. This is why we feel stuck. This is where we feel frustrated. Like, why is nothing happening? Examine your beliefs. What is there that is not serving you? There has to be an alignment with what you believe and what you want. Imagine you are at point A and you want to get to point B. And there's two versions of you. We're gonna call these your identities because what you have to do essentially is shift your identity. Shifting your identity is how you create your future, it's how you manifest, it's how things come to be. If you want to do it on purpose, if you want to do it quicker, more efficiently, if you want to do it and have fun while you're doing it. But imagine you are at point A and you want to be at point B. The version of you now that exists right here in this moment, listening to this podcast, is at point A. That version of you that you dream of, that you envision, that might be on your vision board, they are at point B. These two people have different identities and operate from very different belief systems. You are acting from your current belief system, expecting a result from your point B version, the version of you at point B. You want what they have, but you are acting in accordance with the beliefs that you have now in your current identity. This is the misalignment. There is a gap between where you are and where you want to be. The action steps that exist in that gap come from thoughts and emotions of your future identity. Your current identity is built up of thoughts and emotions that have led to actions that have got you to where you are. Imagine a line on the other side of A going to where you were before. Those actions are what got you to where you are, and they're part of your identity. If you continue to do them, you'll just stay where you are. What got you here will not get you there. If you are trying to change your actions, figure out what to do, but you've never gone back and said, What do I need to think and believe? Then you have not shifted anything with your identity. So your emotions are probably not concrete. Like you're probably not feeling, if you are trying to change your thoughts and create new emotions, you might not be able to hold on to them. Like you might be able to grab them and then they fly away. You feel it in the morning, but they're not sticking to the afternoon and the evening. There's a belief somewhere that is attached to your old identity, and you have to create a belief from your new identity. That future version of you that's done what you want to do, they have what you want to have, they've created the life that you want, whether that's the job, that's the promotion, that's whatever it is, what do they believe about who they are and about what they are capable of? I know they believe it because they've already done it. They have all of the evidence that they have accomplished everything they want to accomplish. They have the confidence level you want, they have the experience that you want, they have the evidence that you want. What belief did that lead to? You have to operate from that belief. And when you do that, when you practice that belief as an affirmation, you will start to have thoughts and emotions more often that lead to motivations that tell you to do something. You're gonna feel excited about taking some sort of an action. That's the action you have to move into. And it's gonna be scary because it's outside of your comfort zone. Where you are at at point A is your comfort zone. And anything that your other identity asks you to do is going to be outside of your comfort zone. This is the leap of faith. This is going before you feel ready. But this is acting out of your future identity. This is embodiment, this is how you shift your identity. This is what will start creating new things in your life. This is manifesting. It's the action piece of manifesting that nobody tells you about. But you will never do the things you need to do to get to where you want to go if you are operating out of an old belief system. So your homework, your challenge, if you choose to accept it, is to go at least seven layers deep on your beliefs and ask that question why seven times. Why do I feel that way? Get an answer. Why do I feel that way? Get an answer. Why do I feel that way? Get an answer. And just keep going. I suggest that you put pen to paper to do this. If you just have a complete visceral hell no to that because you don't like to journal, do it some way, shape, or form. Voice note it. Grab a voice note on your phone and just ask yourself that question over and over again. If typing it out, a Google Doc is your thing, do that. If notes app on your phone is your thing, do that. But if you want to change the things you're doing, if you know what to do, but you can't make yourself do it. Or if you're telling yourself, you don't know what to do, but if I just knew I would do it, either one of those things is coming from a belief that does not serve you. Go seven layers deep. There are some tools, there are some other exercises I could give you, but I'm gonna say do this one first. I could give you a list of questions to ask, but honestly, the most powerful question you can ever, ever ask yourself is why. Not in a judgmental why. Not like, well, why in the world would you think that? Why the hell would you think? No. Just, oh, that's interesting. I wonder why. Release the judgment, ask yourself why, and define these beliefs. This is my old belief from my old identity. This is the new belief from my new identity. This is what she believes. This is what he believes. This is what I believe now. Change does not start with what you do. Change starts with who you are. That is undeniable. Undeniable. Trying to change our actions without ever trying to go back and change the belief that is causing them in the first place is exhausting. If you feel emotionally exhausted trying to make this change, trying to create something different, different, and you're just like, oh my God, this is so hard. You are trying to change your actions without changing the beliefs, the thoughts, and the emotions that come before it. Take a chance, ask yourself why, get friendly with your subconscious, find a belief that you know that does not serve you, and then challenge it. Could that not be true? Could there be something else that serves me better? And then choose that belief, and then choose it again and choose it the next day. And your habits will start to change, you will start to feel better, and you will start to create something you are truly proud of. If you have been listening and you are feeling that call, you are feeling that urge, you are feeling like this is something that you need and you are ready to do the work.

Thank you so much for listening. And if something you heard today made an impact or changed the way you think somehow, then share it with somebody you care about. Because sometimes it's that one moment, that one idea, that changes everything. And until next time, remember if you want to do something you've never done, you have to become someone you've never been. That is the identity advantage.
