SPEAKER_03Great Legacy has the next chapter. Today we introduce the future of BH Wealth Strategies and explore how the next generation is preparing to carry the mission forward.
Meeting Jake And His Role
SPEAKER_03Welcome back, everybody. Skip Mani here again, co-host and producer in the studio with president of BH Wealth Strategies, Jeff Bingham. And we're very fortunate to have Mr. Jake Bingham, who is the future of the company. No pressure, Jake. Gentlemen, how's your week been?
SPEAKER_01It's uh it's been really, really, really good, you know. Like uh we've been busy and and blessed, and uh, you know, it's what what each week working here now brings, and this will segue into this, is that I get to to see every week and every day that goes by my son grow a little more into the role that uh that is the future of this business. And it's just uh it's just a very to me, it's a very inspiring thing for me to to watch and see. And I, you know, it takes me back thinking about uh, you know, working when I work with my dad and probably the same feelings that that he had. And that's um I don't know, that's just really special, you know. So that I'm blessed that way.
SPEAKER_03Absolutely. Wonderful. So, Jake, talk to us about your role and and uh what this next chapter means for the firm.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, my I guess I I came in and to help my dad and work with him and learn from him. Uh my role has been expanding since I kind of have a hand in everything now. Uh that's true. Um my favorite thing to do is uh be in the room with my dad and the clients and see how much trust they they put in us and work with them and help them achieve the lifestyle they want in retirement.
SPEAKER_03Very cool.
Why Jake Joins The Family Firm
SPEAKER_03Well, Jack, what what inspired you to step into the financial planning world and and join the family business?
SPEAKER_02I I I gotta say my dad. Uh I wish he wasn't in here just for hear me say it.
SPEAKER_03Good answer.
SPEAKER_02Say that, but uh see how much it meant to him growing up, uh following in his dad's footsteps and the effort that he put into this business and stewarding it to help my family and help other families that we work with. Awesome. It's uh it's a blessing that he's put his trust in me to follow in his footsteps.
SPEAKER_03Very
Father Son Styles In The Office
SPEAKER_03cool. Well, Jeff, what strengths or perspectives uh from your perspective uh does Jake bring that complements the firm's long-standing approach?
SPEAKER_01Well, you know, it's I mean it it uh there there are there are many, uh, you know, and to say that every day is is always smooth sailing um would would be untrue because we are father and son and we're working together and those present its own challenges, but you know, smooth seas doesn't make for very good sailors, so you know, that's those are always good things. But I think you know, the interesting thing about Jake and I working together, and then and I always kind of harken back to compare what when my dad and I work together is that Jake has a personality much more like my dad uh than than I do, you know, and so which is an interesting juxtaposition of this because he's a he's more of a kinder, gentler soul than than I am. I mean, I am um you know, I am a full-on, you know, alpha, you know, type A personality. And not that Jake's not, um, but you know, I'm I'm kind of a dog. And when I started working with my dad, I I just I I just wanted I just wanted everything, right? I just wanted to learn and consume everything. And um, and not that Jake doesn't, but it's just a different, it's a different rhythm, right? It's a different style. And uh, you know, and that's and that that was tough, very tough for me, and I'm sure tough for him to, and it's taken me years to actually figure that out, and that probably has just occurred over the last, I don't know, probably this year or something like that. So in a very short time period, we've been working together a long time. So, you know, so what I think again, so going back, what is a beautiful thing about that and what that lays out for the future is is that uh it puts that it it puts that that kinder, gentler, softer edge, you know, to the to the firm. Uh, you know, more so, like I said, bringing a little bit more of my dad's or in my dad's conference room. This is the Robert L. Bingham conference room that we're sitting in. And uh to watch, you know, to see Jake and his interaction with the clients is much more reminiscent of me watching my dad interact with clients. It's not to say that I don't do that. I think I do have been I've been doing this for a pretty long time, you know, successfully. But like I said, I mean I'm a more of a I can get I can get pretty I can get pretty fiery, you know, at times. Uh and uh and I can be difficult to work with, you know, uh not not with my clients, but certainly with my with the staff and with Jake. You know, my expectations are I set them them very high. Our standard is set very high, and you know, I'm quick to uh remind people when they're not meeting the standard. And I think Jake is a has a much softer hand in touch in doing that. And oftentimes that's a heck of a lot more more uh successful than the methods that I use. So I'm it's it's kind of fun to watch him do that and be reminded of my dad and how he how he did things.
SPEAKER_03Very cool.
Trust First Values That Guide Advice
SPEAKER_03Well, what values or principles are most important for Jake to carry forward as B and H continues to grow from your perspective, Jeff?
SPEAKER_01Well, I think uh, and this, you know, this this business is this is a trust business, right? I mean, this is a high trust business, and so the the core values that that have always been part, you know, of of this business, which is you know, put your clients' interest before you put your own, you know, to make sure that we are always, you know, providing the best counsel that we can possibly do and advice that we can give to our clients. Uh, and certainly using the the lens uh you know now is from our perspective, is a is a more certainly a biblical lens, but we've always had when the and that and that changed a couple of years ago. But I think what my dad and uh the other co-founder, Mr. Hensley, put that foundation together, you know, is built on the pillars of of trust, get to know your clients, you know, create out of a transactional business, create these transformational relationships. And Jake is is again going back to the to his personality like my dad's, he's very good at doing that. He's just a very caring person, and and you know, it's helping, you know, helping others, serving others. Our mission is to serve our clients. Uh, and if we can do that, and he does that very well, um, and he's learned it, you know, hopefully in doing this, but it's also just in it's just it's who he is. You know, it's in it's embedded in him, it's ingrained, it's in his DNA.
SPEAKER_03In his DNA. No pressure, Jake.
Passing Wisdom And Building The Future
SPEAKER_03So uh uh Jeff, and I'll ask both you guys this question. What excites you the most about the future of the firm with Jake stepping in?
SPEAKER_01Ah, well, as you hear me use the term all the time, the best is yet to come. I mean, you know, the um, you know, and my dad always used to use the expression, you need to leave the world better place than then than what you found it. And so, and he certainly did that, and then he handed that baton over to me. And now I'm gonna hand that over to Jake. So I'm and he's and he's doing that. So what our our mission is and what he's he's on the on the path and on that mission and ministry to do is to is to make the world, and as we're talking about that world right now, that's the world of B and H wealth strategies, and the clients and the future clients that we're going to interact with is to make their lives better. And he is um, he's very good at doing that. He has a great knowledge of this business. Um, you know, it's still it we're always learning, and what I'm trying to do is as I move into this season of my life, and hopefully it can last a long time, but is to to to pass and impart the wisdom that I've gained over the years, you know, on to him as he is in this, you know, this time when his his intellectual ability and ability to learn is is is as agile and as flexible as it can be, right? You can just at the age he is, the ability to be able to consume information and retain it and then learn from that and grow from that, I can put the wisdom into that, you know, and add to that, you know, because I'm you know, we get older, our ability to remember and that agility of and that intellectual agility, it does change, right? So I've got more crystallized wisdom now, and hopefully I can pass that along to him as he can consume information.
SPEAKER_02I just continuing to work with my dad as long as he's gonna be here and work with uh Matt. Um, it's it's a joy to be able to work with family in a the community that we've been in for a long time and help the people in it. And we hit our 60 years this year, and I want 60 more. There you go.
SPEAKER_03Okay. Well, I don't know if Jeff and I will be around to do a podcast in a hundred in 60 years after 120 years, but uh maybe maybe another generation can take over. Who knows what media is going to be like in 60 years? But anyway, sorry about that. So very inspiring look at the future of BH Well Strategies and the multiple multiple multi-generational uh impact. Jeff, Jake, thank you so much for joining us. And uh, Jake, we'll look forward to seeing you in few future episodes along with uh Jeff. Thanks for having me on.
SPEAKER_01Thanks, Skip. And again, I'll close by saying what I always say, the best is yet to come. I mean, we've been doing this for 60 years, and I think we just um we literally do get better every day. And the fact that Jake is in here in this seat makes us makes that possible, right? I mean, it makes this possible to to continue to have the energy and the uh the ability to to grow in our uh in our community and pass this our financial wisdom and knowledge along to others and try to make their lives better from a financial perspective and also just as a general life perspective, right? A bit of a ministry, if you will.
SPEAKER_03Amen, brother. All right, guys. We'll see you the next episode.
SPEAKER_01Hi, man. Thanks. Have a great weekend, Skiff.
