Leading at Glow - Episode 1: What Leadership at Glow Really Means
Explores the spiritual nature of leadership, the heart of servant leadership, and the personal responsibility we carry as culture-shaping leaders. Leadership isn’t about position; it’s about presence, posture, and faithfulness.
Episode 1. What leadership at Glow really means. Welcome to the Leading at Glow podcast. Whether you're just stepping into leadership for the first time or you've been carrying weight for a while, this short series is here to help you understand what leadership looks like at Glow. Not just what we do, but how we carry it. This is session 1. What leadership at Glow really means. Let's get into it. Part one. Leadership is spiritual, not just practical. Here's the first thing I want you to hear clearly. Leadership at Glow is spiritual before it's practical. We're not just filling rotas or managing teams. We're shaping the culture of the house. We're helping people experience Jesus, sometimes before a word is even spoken. Leadership isn't just about what you do. It's about who you are while you're doing it, whether you're leading a connect group, a Sunday team, or making the coffee. Your attitude, your posture, your spirit, it all creates an atmosphere people walk into. You're not just turning up early, you're hosting the presence of God. You're setting a tone that speaks louder than a mic ever could. Paul said in 1 Corinthians 11, 1, follow my example as I follow the example of Christ. That's leadership. We go first in attitude, in faith, in servanthood, and others follow what we carry. Part two. Leadership isn't a title. It's a trust. Leadership at GLOW isn't something you're handed. It's something you're trusted with. You don't have to be perfect, but you do need to be present, consistent, available, teachable. Jesus never promoted people based on charisma. He entrusted leadership to those who are faithful, surrendered and full of the spirit. Whoever wants to be great among you must be Matthew 20, 26. In other words, servant-heartedness is the non-negotiable foundation. It's not about getting noticed. It's about carrying weight when no one's watching. We don't hand out leadership at glow like badges. We call it out when we see people living it already. That's what this pathway is about, equipping people who are already leading in spirit even before the role. Part three. You carry culture, even when you don't mean to. Here's something most people miss. As a leader, you're always carrying something. And whether you mean to or not, people will catch it. They'll catch how you speak about your team. They'll catch your body language in the meeting. They'll catch your tone during a challenge, your posture under pressure, your energy on a Sunday. Culture isn't taught. It's caught from you. That's why we say at GLOW, leaders are culture carriers. Not because you're loud, but because your life has weight and what you carry leaks into every room you're in. So we take it seriously. We ask, what are people picking up from me? Because we want people to encounter Jesus through our leadership, not just systems. Part four, your presence is powerful. One of the most underrated things in leadership is just showing up well. Turning up early, being prepared, encouraging someone by name, bringing faith into the room, not fear, being present, not distracted. That's leadership. There are moments on a Sunday or in a team night or after a service where one sentence from you might shift someone's week. You might think you're just running a team. But you're actually shepherding hearts. You're creating spiritual environments. You're building people, not just rosters. Never underestimate the power of a well-timed prayer, a kind correction, or a calm presence. Jesus often led without speaking. Just by walking with people, eating with them, showing up consistently, you can do the same. Part 5. Reflection and Next Steps So as we close out this first session, let's pause with two simple questions. One, what has shaped your view of leadership so far? Two, what kind of leader do you want to become at Glow? Take five minutes after this episode to write that down or speak it out. Pray into it. Bring it into your one-to-one follow-up conversation when you finish the series. Leadership here isn't about being loud or flashy. It's about being faithful, consistent, and full of Jesus. Thanks for listening. I'll see you in session two.
