Episode 2. Vision, Culture and Language. Welcome back to Leading at Glow. This is session 2 and we're talking about something foundational for any leader here. Vision, Culture and Language. If you want to lead well at Glow, this is what you need to carry, not just in your notes, but in your heart, in your voice and in your everyday leadership. Let's dive in. Part 1. Vision. the why behind everything. Let's start with vision. Vision is the why, the big picture, the reason we get out of bed and serve week in, week out. Put simply, Jesus is our message. At GLOW, the life-changing love and teaching of Jesus Christ is the heartbeat of everything we do. Our mission is to share his hope and salvation, equipping people to live with clear purpose and contagious passion. Leadership at GLOW is never just about getting a job done. It's about making Jesus famous, making disciples, raising leaders and helping people grow. You need to carry that. Because as a leader, people will look to you to remind them of the why. Especially when it gets busy, messy or inconvenient. You don't just execute tasks, you champion the vision. Habakkuk 2.2 reminds us to write the vision. and make it plain so that he who reads it may run. Part two. Culture, the how that shapes the whole now. Let's talk about culture. If vision is the why, culture is the how. Culture is the invisible force that shapes everything we do. It's not what we say on stage. It's what people feel in the foyer. It's how we treat each other when no one's watching. It's the tone of our team meetings. It's the way we respond when things don't go to plan. At Glow, our culture is intentional. It's not perfect, but it's clear. You could sum our culture up in three words Real, bold love. You'll hear us say that. People are our purpose. We are authentic to the core. Leadership is our mandate. Creativity is our calling. Generosity is our response. And passion is the overflow. Here's what I want you to hear. You don't just carry out culture, you create it. Every time you arrive early. Every time you bring encouragement, every time you challenge unhelpful talk or carry a solution, you're shaping the environment around you. Culture is caught more than taught. And as a leader, you are the example. Part three, language, how we shape atmosphere. Let's Talk Language, because your words matter. The words you use in the car park, at rehearsals, in debriefs, even in WhatsApp groups, they all build something. At GLOW, we pay attention to our language because we know it shapes culture and builds faith. Here are a few things we avoid. Sarcasm that undercuts. Backhanded compliments. Grumbling or passive aggression. Spiritualised excuses for a lack of preparation. And here are things we lean into. Speaking life. Encouraging upward. Giving clear. Honouring feedback. Celebrating people publicly and correcting privately. Let your conversation always be full of grace, seasoned with salt. Colossians 4.6 As a leader, your language sets the tone. If you speak with faith, people rise. If you speak with criticism, people shrink. If you speak with consistency, people trust you. You don't need a microphone to lead. You just need to lead with your words. Part 4. So what are you carrying? Here's the question I want you to sit with. What are you actually carrying? Because people will catch what's really in you. If you're jaded, they'll catch it. If you're grateful, they'll catch that too. If you speak life, others will echo it. If you cut corners, others will learn to do the same. So lead with vision in your heart, culture in your hands and language on your lips that reflects the spirit of Christ. Let's build a church that doesn't just look good. but actually feels like Jesus. Reflection and next steps. As we close this session, take a moment to reflect. Where have you seen glow culture modelled really well? And what part of our culture do you naturally carry or need to carry more? Jot it down. Let it sit with you this week. And remember, you're not just serving on a team, you're shaping an environment that helps people encounter God. That's what leadership looks like at GLOW. See you in session three.
