Staff Episode 3: Showing Up Where It Counts.

Glow Church UK Season 1 Episode 3

Welcome to EPISODE 3: The Big 7 — Showing Up Where It Counts.

This one’s all about rhythm and visibility — and specifically, the Big 7.

Because if Episode 2 helped us see this role as a calling, then this episode reminds us that commitment has a calendar.

What Are the Big 7?
At Glow, we’ve identified seven moments across the year that matter deeply to the spiritual life and missional reach of our church. These aren’t just events — they are spiritual milestones, vision markers, and community builders.

And we expect every staff member to be present, engaged, and contributing — not just as employees, but as culture carriers and servant leaders.

Let’s walk through them.

1. Anointing Service
This is how we begin the year — in God’s presence.
We pray, we consecrate leaders, and we anoint people for the year ahead. Staff are there to lead the way — with hunger, humility, and unity.

2. Easter Weekend
The cornerstone of the Christian faith. Our biggest opportunity to preach the Gospel, reach new people, and do it with excellence. As staff, we serve, we invite, we go above and beyond — because the message deserves our very best.

3. Parenting Conference
This isn’t just a niche event. It’s about discipling families, shaping households, and empowering parents to lead spiritually. When staff show up — even outside their area — it sends a strong message: we believe in this.

4. International Sunday
A powerful celebration of culture, unity, and calling. When staff are visible here — leading, worshipping, praying — we model the kingdom culture we’re building.

5. Christmas Eve Service
Reflective, invitational, and often deeply moving. Staff presence helps create a peaceful, intentional atmosphere — it’s not just about production, it’s about presence.

6. Glow Team Summer Party
Yes, it’s fun — but it’s also strategic. We’re honouring the volunteers who build this house. And when staff show up with enthusiasm and gratitude, it strengthens trust across the whole church.

7. The Gift Christmas Production
Our largest annual outreach. Thousands come through our doors. Every staff member plays a part — from front-of-house to follow-up. You may not be rostered, but you’re always involved.

Staff Expectations: Beyond the Job Description.

Here’s the big idea:
Being a paid member of staff doesn’t replace a volunteer spirit — it requires one.

Yes, you have contracted hours.
Yes, you’re entitled to rest.
And yes — we guard your well-being.

But we’re also asking you to show up when it counts.
To serve even when it’s not in your department.
To contribute even when it’s not your “responsibility.”

Because buy-in matters.
You can’t ask others to volunteer if you’re unwilling to.

You’ll have plenty of notice for each of the Big 7.

We plan well so no one burns out.

And we talk often about expectations and capacity.

This is about shared sacrifice and celebrating what matters — not silent burnout.

Philippians 2:5–7 says:
"Have the same mindset as Christ Jesus… who made Himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant…"

Jesus didn’t demand a platform — He picked up a towel.

That’s the kind of leadership we expect at Glow.
It’s not about hours… it’s about heart.
It’s not about being paid… it’s about being planted.

Finally, it’s worth saying clearly — Sunday services are at the heart of who we are and what we do. Your regular presence isn’t just appreciated — it’s essential. It’s where we worship together, stay aligned, and immerse ourselves in the culture, community, and mission of Glow. Simply put: if you want to carry the heart of this house, you need to be in the house.

So here’s the question:
Are you just working your job?
Or are you building the house?

Thanks for listening to this episode. In the next one, we’ll talk about how staff shape culture — through tone, posture, confidentiality, and how we handle challenge and conflict.

Let’s keep going — together.
