Staff Episode 5 Heart Before Skill

Glow Church UK Season 1 Episode 5

At Glow, we hire you for your skill, but we develop you for your spirit. We want to see you grow — not just as a worker, but as a disciple of Jesus.

Welcome to our final episode in this series.
EPISODE 5: Heart Before Skill — Staff as Disciples First

We’ve talked about calling.
We’ve talked about showing up when it counts.
We’ve talked about carrying culture.

But today — we’re talking about the foundation beneath it all:
Your heart.

Because here’s the truth:
At Glow, we hire you for your skill, but we develop you for your spirit.
We want to see you grow — not just as a worker, but as a disciple of Jesus.

Staff are Disciples First.
When you work for a church, your job can very easily become your entire walk with God.
You prep sermons, plan services, lead teams, run youth, manage rotas — and it can all feel deeply spiritual.

But none of that replaces your personal discipleship.

You are a follower of Jesus before you're a staff member.
You are a child of God before you're a department lead.

Your first assignment isn’t the church calendar — it’s your soul.

Ministry Rhythms vs. Spiritual Rhythms -
It’s easy to confuse ministry activity with spiritual health.
So let me ask you:

Are you reading the Word for you, or just for others?

Do you spend time with God without needing a purpose or a deadline?

Are you leading from overflow, or from obligation?

We don’t want exhausted, performance-driven staff.
We want healthy, rooted, spiritually-alive people — people who love Jesus more than they love being effective.

A Culture of Growth, Not Pretence -
At Glow, we’re building a staff culture that values:

Teachability over perfection

Humility over polish

Accountability over image

You don’t have to have it all together.
But you do have to be growing.
That means being open to feedback.
Leaning into coaching.
Letting others speak into your blind spots.

We want you to bring your whole self — not just your gift.
Because if your role outgrows your soul… everything cracks.

As part of your journey here, you’ll be invited into coaching conversations.
These aren’t performance reviews. They’re moments to check in — spiritually, relationally, and personally.

You’ll be encouraged to:

Reflect on how you're growing, not just what you're delivering

Talk honestly about what’s fuelling or draining you

Bring areas where you want to be stretched, healed, or developed

This isn’t HR strategy.
It’s discipleship with structure — and it will help you last.

Your Growth Fuels Our Growth-
The church doesn’t grow just because of great plans.
It grows when people grow.

When staff are vibrant, faith-filled, consistent, and aligned — everything multiplies.
But when staff go dry, distracted, or disillusioned — it leaks.

So your growth is not just your responsibility.
It’s your contribution to the house.

We want to create space for you to pray, reflect, repent, dream, and develop.
Because when you’re well, you lead well.

Micah 6:8 says:
"What does the Lord require of you? To act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God."

That’s our staff posture.
Not platform. Not perfection.
But justice, mercy, and humility — lived out over time.

So — as we close this series, here’s your final reflection:

Are you growing in gifting… but coasting in discipleship?
And what’s one rhythm you can reintroduce this month that brings you back to Jesus?

Thank you for being on the team.
Thank you for what you bring — but more importantly, who you’re becoming.
Let’s build this house from the inside out — together.
