Your vacation can be fun and still feel like you. We’re sharing the real habits we use to stay grounded while traveling so we come home energized instead of depleted, broke, and scrambling to “get back on track.” If summer travel usually knocks your routine out, this conversation is your reset.
We get into the practical wellness travel tips that make the biggest difference: keeping your “before the world demands me” routine, moving your body without turning the trip into a fitness bootcamp, and protecting your mornings from social media comparison. We also talk about the underrated stuff that keeps your mind calm like resetting your room, having a fast 10 minute getting ready routine, and building in white space on group trips so you can wander, breathe, and even take a nap without guilt.
Then we talk money and moderation, because staying grounded also means staying out of the “vacation Olympics.” We share how we avoid last minute shopping, remix outfits, pack smarter, and keep toiletries ready so we’re not spending twice for the same trip. We also touch on drinking in moderation so you can actually remember your vacation and keep your energy and glow the next day.
If you’re traveling this summer and want to enjoy it without losing yourself, press play. Subscribe to Elevators Podcast, share this with a friend who’s always on a plane, and leave us a review so more listeners can find the show.
Hey, welcome back to another Elevators Podcast. Thank you so much for tuning in to another show. For those listening, if you're in the car, if you're in the gym, wherever you are at work, I'm Amanda Booz. And Crystal Vega.

Welcome Back And Listener Love
SPEAKER_01Monday, y'all. Thank you for joining us for another week of elevating and figuring out life together, y'all. That's what we do.
SPEAKER_00That's all it's about. That's exactly what we do. We love figuring it out as we go.
SPEAKER_01Move on. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. That is exactly what we do here on the show. We love starting out the show with, you know, kind of giving y'all your props and, you know, your kudos because our show would not be possible if it was not for the people who tune in each and every week, and sometimes every other week. So, which is what we're doing right now. I wanted to give a shout out to a listener who gave us a review, Miss Mash21. I hope I'm saying that right. And it says, Love their energy, such a refreshing podcast. I love that they talk about subjects that are relatable and warm.
SPEAKER_01And that's what we do. Hey girl, thank you for that. Yeah, make sure you guys tune in with the summer ramping up. We are here every other week. However, we will soon be coming back every week. So we appreciate you guys sticking with us. But we only hear from you. So make sure you leave us a speak pipe. We want to know what you want to hear more about. What tips and tricks would you like to hear more about on the show? Is it real estate? Is it finances? Like, what are we doing? What are we talking about? Right. So yeah. And this week we're gonna be talking about how to stay grounded while you are on vacation. Because, like I said, with the summer ramping up, we already know y'all are going on vacation mode, okay?
SPEAKER_00And everybody's outside. Yes, us too. Speaking of summer vacation,
Why Staying Grounded Matters
SPEAKER_00I have to say, I am excited for this summer. Outside of like us both being in Miami and living in Miami, it definitely feels like vacation and summer all year round. But when I say I'm looking forward to summer, I'm looking forward to summer traveling and I'm excited for the summer music. We got so many new music that's
Summer Travel Plans And Real Talk
SPEAKER_00out, uh, which is always just a good way to like kick off the summer season. But girl, I'm sitting here thinking about all my summer travels. So what do you have? What do you have on your on your travel list for this summer? I already know what's coming up next week, but what do you got? What do you got on your list?
SPEAKER_01Um, I think I'm gonna keep it super cute. Uh I am going to Canon, France, and then I'm going to New York for a couple days. And I might do like one or two New York trips this summer, but maybe I ain't gotta go very far. I live, we live in land, so we are on vacation mode very often. And I was felt it's so funny. I was talking to my man about this, but like I never feel like I need a vacation anymore because the beach is 15 minutes away. The weather is always so nice. I woke up this morning, I was like a little cranky, and I went outside. I was like oh my god, yeah, it's good. Oh my god, it's such a good boom girl almost dropped the top, and I don't even got a drop top. Listen, sunroof, sum roofs count. Right, sun roof. Oh my god, it's so nice outside. Um, but yeah, so that that yeah, that's my summer. How about you? What are you doing this summer?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and one thing I, and you just came back from DR, so honey, is it's some it's already giving summering summering right now. Okay, summer is summering. But no, for me, I'm going to actually kicking off summer next week in New York. So I'm going to New York City. Well, New York and New Jersey, and I think I don't know if I'm going to Philly, but I'm going to New York and New Jersey for sure. Um, actually, I think I am going to Philly. I'm going to the Haiti and Brazil World Cup game next weekend, which I am excited for. If you guys don't know, I am Haitian and Jamaican. My mom's Jamaican, my dad's Haitian, very close to the Haitian culture. So I am going with my boyfriend next week, and I'm so excited to be going to that. I'm going to, so I guess New York will be in there. A couple of New York trips for sure. I'm supposed to be going to Martha's Vineyard this year. I've never been. So if you have any Martha's Vineyard trips, let me know. And the Hamptons. Can y'all believe I lived in New York for almost close to six years and I've never been to the Hamptons? Disgusting. So I'm going to the Hamptons, yes. Going to the Hamptons. And I feel like they're going to be a Eurosomet. We're going to see. For sure. Those trips are planned for the summer. And honestly, the summer ends what? September? And I'm going to Portugal. So I'm going to Europe at some point for sure. So it's a lot going on.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's a busy summer. You got a busy summer, girl. And that's why you got it. Stay in the gym.
SPEAKER_00That's why I was in there like every day this week. Like I was clocking in for my job, girl. It's crazy. Listen, that's why I have the braids. So if you see me with braids, you know I am in the sauna every other day, every five seconds. Like if I have my braids in, of course, braids are just perfect for a protective style for the summer. But specifically, I got them because I'm like, I have all these trips coming up. I don't want the summer to leave me behind. Like, I need to put this in overdrive. Like, let's wrap this up real quick.
SPEAKER_01I was literally, you took the words right out of my mouth. Like, you just reminded me I need to get braids. When I come back from Europe, I'm definitely gonna do braids. First of all, Will dropped a bombshell on me. And he was like, Yeah, I always told you I love when you get braids. I was like, I don't remember that. I want to get the braids out.
SPEAKER_00Wait, did he say what braids that he likes? Does he like when you get the stitch braids, which is like, you know, on the scalp? It don't matter. He said he just loves when I get braids. Okay, so get the braids. Let's say get the braids. Yeah. I love that. I love that brain. Oh, it's perfect.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, exactly. And and this is my last time trimming my bow. So I'm definitely gonna go back into the braids this summer because it also helps your hair grow. Even though sometimes I feel like it'd be pulling at my roots, but it just helps when your hair is like at that awkward stage and you're like, oh, what do I do with it? Yes. Um braid. So yes, I am gonna be asking you for your break person very soon. I got you. My girl is in New York. But um what was I gonna say? You are on flight every other week this summer, it sounds like.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I mean, it does, it's probably not every single week, but it's for sure spaced out. And I feel like summer events are like also like a big ordeal. Oh, I forgot to add New Orleans. I think I'm going to be in Essence, uh Essence Fest for in New Orleans, so that'll be something fun. I'm trying to get Crystal to go to LA, so we're gonna see, we're gonna see that. We'll see if that gets in the mix. Leave it to God. Leave it to God. But regardless, yeah, I'm on this, I'm on a plane, you're on a plane, you're on a plane honestly every month, multiple times a month. So I think this is the perfect time to have an episode where we talk about staying in your bag on vacation. We are gonna give you tips for staying grounded because when you're on these trips, it doesn't mean everything has to fall to the wayside,
Stay Ready So You Stay Grounded
SPEAKER_00right? Vacation is supposed to be a time for you to unwind and relax, but it's not a time for you to really forget about your life as a whole and just to make sure everything else goes to shit. We gotta make sure we stay in our bag so that we can make sure we get in these bags. You know what I mean? Like stay ready all the time. You know the saying. What is it? What is the saying, Crystal? Stay ready so you don't gotta get ready.
SPEAKER_01You ain't gotta get ready, baby. You know, I'm traumatized from plucking that interview. I'll never forget it. Stay ready so you don't have to get ready.
SPEAKER_00That's right. That's right. So I think this is the perfect time. Summer is officially kicking off this weekend, right? Doesn't summer happen? I think summer, the official start state start date of summer is either June 20th or 21st or something. So this might be the perfect week for us to have. It feels like tomorrow. It is. It's it's honestly and honestly, we mentioned both of us being in Miami. I have to say, as a Miami native, living in Miami is the number one place to get your your stuff together. And the reason I say this is Miami has nothing but beautiful women, nothing but beautiful people. And it's similar to LA. It's a place where health is well. People are on their game when it comes to working out. People are on their game with the matches, the smoothies, the the vegans, the eating healthy, the eating cleans. So you could walk outside in Miami and be like, you could see a beautiful person and be like, oh, let me go, let me go to the gym real quick. Because like people are on their game here 24-7.
SPEAKER_01So all the 24-7 year round. Like you cannot link. You can't fall on. Okay. People, and if you ever feel like, oh, I don't want to work out or whatever, girl, like you at the beach, you see people working out at the beach. And I love that. Like, that's one thing about the Miami culture that I absolutely love. Like seeing people put their health first, it's so beautiful. Um, but yeah, it's super important with like all these things, just the summer and all these trips coming up, that we are staying in our bag because we're also halfway through the year. Y'all crazy.
SPEAKER_00It's crazy.
SPEAKER_01We're just talking about Q1. Now we are rapping with Q2, going into Q3, Q4. So, with that being said, make sure that you are on top of your game. I know I definitely am in DR, baby. I was working out. I love it. Who am I? And our day one listeners know how I was so flaky about working out. But baby, my consistency and self-discipline has been through the roof since the top of the year, and I'm so proud of myself. Not that I've been working out since the top of the year, but just my consistency um and my discipline with the doing the things that I said I wanted to do and I'm getting them done. Go meet.
SPEAKER_00Let's clap it up for my girl, y'all. Let's clap it up. Let's clap it up. But one thing I always say about Crystal is even when my girl is not in the gym, she is prioritizing the things she eats. She's not eating crazy, she's making meals at home five, six, seven, eight times a day sometimes.
SPEAKER_01I guess.
SPEAKER_00But she's making it from scratch. And I feel like you cannot outwork a bad diet. And it's true what they say. Abs are made in the kitchen. Like everything that you want starts in the kitchen. Like, so I feel like whether you're working out or prioritizing making sure you're going to the gym three, four times a week, if you're not cooking breakfast, lunch, and dinner majority of the times at home. And I get it, we eat out sometimes, which we'll get into that in the episode. Um, but yeah, you gotta make sure you're doing that. But so you know what? Let's just kick things kick things off. What are you, what are your what is your take on staying in your bag on vacation? Like what things do you feel like people should do to stay grounded while taking a trip?
SPEAKER_01One of the things that I recently practiced,
Keep Your Morning Routine Sacred
SPEAKER_01which was super helpful for me, was maintaining my like before the world demands of me practices. So that means like doing the things that you do at home before you let the world pull you in different directions. So that can look very different. That could be like if you journal in the morning or if you go work out in the morning, whatever, if you have your coffee like by yourself in the morning before you open your phone, whatever that looks like. I like to maintain that when I'm on vacation because sometimes we happen to just roll over and open up our phones, and that's probably like the worst thing that we can do because you just naturally start comparing what you're doing. You know, within the first three uh three minutes of waking up, you start naturally comparing yourself and like what you see online. Well, you well, within the first three minutes of you waking up, you are already comparing what you're doing in your life to what you're seeing online, which is so crazy, like so mind-boggling that that's where we are, you know, as a society. But so because of that, I like to maintain whatever it is, you know, that looks like for me. So for me personally, it is not getting on social media, rolling out of bed, brushing my teeth, and going to the gym. Even when I'm at the gym, I notice that I do not like to look at the time. And if I'm recording my videos and stuff, I make sure that I don't really pay attention to the time. I don't get on social media, like nothing for at least like the first hour, hour and a half, because it also slows me down significantly. Like I could roll over and doom scroll for 45 minutes and my entire day is thrown out. So my number one tip is to maintain whatever routine it is that you have before you let the world pull you in different directions, even when you're on vacation.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I love that you said that. I I've said it on the podcast before. I love working out on vacation. Sometimes I feel like I work out harder on vacation than I do when I'm not on vacation. And I don't know, it's something weird mentally that happens in my brain where I'm like, you don't deserve the vacation unless you work out. I know that sounds crazy, but if it works for you, it works for you. It works for me, yeah. Of course I deserve the vacation. Of course, you deserve a vacation. Of course, all of us deserve a vacation. But I feel like a way to pay myself back by like being and experiencing, being being outside of my home. And it doesn't even have to be you going to um an island or somewhere overseas. You could even be traveling somewhere locally, but just being able to experience that is a blessing. So I feel like in order to like honor that blessing, I gotta sweat. And hot take, don't have more workout outfits than workouts on that trip. Don't have more sneakers, more aloe sets, no Lulu sets, no Amazon sets, no Nike Bomeros, no whatever, New Balances, 90s, 60s, and you only walked to the buffet. If you have workout sets, work out. Like you said, Crystal goes to the gym when she wakes up. I do the same thing on vacation, and after that, I'm going to the buffet for sure. In the buffet, you will see me in my gym clothes. But I will have made it to the gym first. So I had to say that. Don't kill me. You already know they're gonna eat you up, baby, while they at that buffet. I'm just saying.
SPEAKER_01No, but I love that. I love that. That that's that's a very good point because, girl, that was me a couple months ago. I have more workout outfits than I do actual workout sessions, and that's okay. Nothing wrong with recognizing that important. Also, like we are just genuinely like not to first of all, I think tough love goes a long way. Strong believer in that. However, I also want to just say that we are not 15 anymore. Like, we literally have to work out for our health. It's not even like, oh, you want to be in the yeah, bikini looking good in a bikini is great, but we are in our 30s. It's not about just looking good, it's genuinely about keeping up with your health and keeping up with yourself and the things around you because there's so many different things that affect our health short-term and long term, and this world will make you put your health at the bottom of the priority list, and you just cannot do that. So you have to put yourself at the top of the day.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And also not only putting your health first because of those reasons, but I know we all like to think that we're still in the bodies we had in our 20s and our teenage years, but root awakening, everything goes downhill in the 30s. I have
Movement That Fits Your Life
SPEAKER_00been me myself personally, I don't like to be on the scale and like check the scale. However, I notice when I feel different when certain clothes, right? So you know how you have that favorite pair of jeans and you put those jeans on, and you know when they fit very well when you're in shape, and then you know when you gain a little weight and they don't fit comfortably. Whenever I'm at that stage, I'm like, all right, we need to cut back. You know, we need to drop. So I'm realizing, even me personally, just being vulnerable with you guys, I have been trying to lose five pounds since I came back from Tokyo. I was perfectly fine in Tokyo. I've been trying to lose like five to seven pounds since I came back in Tokyo. I've been doing everything, working out, eating, and everything, supplements, all that. And this has been the hardest time in my life ever that I feel like has been so hard for me to lose these five pounds. And I don't know if it's because maybe something is, I don't know what it is, y'all. Like, but I do realize that I'm getting older. And with that, it's harder. Like it's harder to maintain those things. So when you make it a lifestyle, like they literally say fitness is a lifestyle, it makes you like when I wake up, it's a no no-brainer. I'm going to the gym because it's a lifestyle, it's a part of the day-to-day, on top of working and everything else that you do. When you make it a part of your life, it's so much easier to be consistent. So I love that you said that point. Something else I want to say about vacations is always.
SPEAKER_01Wait, before you go off of that, wait, before you go off of that, I have something to add. It doesn't have to be the gym. If you even go on a run while you're at the resort, that's perfect. If you go for a walk, like they say the most consistent workout that does the best for you is just walking. So it doesn't have to be lifting weights. Because that's one thing Amanda and I have recently talked about offline is like we don't really like doing weights at the machines. You know, like we more we prefer like freehand weights and like, you know, doing stuff like that. So it's also about figuring out what works for you. And I was actually gonna say to you, Amanda, like you might have to try um like boxing or something, a different something else.
SPEAKER_00Yes, my body's probably plateaued. Yeah, I agree. And so like I know the girlies are on their 10K step craze right now. I also have been doing a lot more steps because I realized like I work out a lot, but then I looked at my daily steps and I'm like, baby, where are you you where are you walking to? Because you're not really walking. You know what I mean? Like so you have to walk. And honestly, I know everybody is on the take 10K vibe, but like really 8,000 steps. If you can just get 8,000 steps in, they say that's still equivalent to doing the 10K. Um, so monitor like your steps that you're taking. Like Crystal said, you don't have to necessarily get a hard, intense workout in, but just being active and walking and honestly getting some sun, like putting, like just going outside and getting some vitamin D. Like that does so much for your overall health that that is good. The other thing I want to say about staying in your bag on vacation is take 10 minutes aside, whether it's in the evening, whether it's re you getting ready for dinner, and reset your room. I I don't know why, but I
Reset Your Space And Get Ready Fast
SPEAKER_00can't stand, I'm gonna say it, um, people who go on vacation and just act like the room doesn't like is not your home for the time being that you're in this space. So treat it as such. I like to clean before the cleaning people come. By the way, I pretty much put do not disturb on my door when I get to some places, because if my room is staying and maintaining the way it needs to stay, then I don't really feel like it needs to be reset so many times. You know what I mean? So I think spending some time to do that will cause less chaos when you're getting ready. And on top of the 10-minute reset, sisters, please get a 10-minute makeup routine down pack. Okay. Because if you're on vacation with people, I think it's important to be able to do something quick. If you have the time to get ready and have an hour to do hair and makeup, great. But if you only have 10 minutes, what does that look like for you? I feel like getting a solid 10-minute makeup routine on vacation is honestly like, I think it's ideal because you don't know what you're doing between this excursions and this and that and the third. That's my my my take on that.
SPEAKER_01No, I love that. Another tip I would have that I recently practiced is not sharing the trip with the world until after it's behind you. And I know like we kind of do that as like content creators, but just in general, like
Stop Posting Trips In Real Time
SPEAKER_01even if you're not a content creator and you're just somebody who likes to share, you know, what your experience on social media, it was so refreshing and like such a weight off my shoulder to not be posting in real time. Because what happens is when you're posting in real time, then you start responding to people in real time. And it takes away from your experience. So this time around, when I went away, girl, you would have thought I was in DR right now because I wasn't posting until I came back. And then at that point, I was like, okay, this is what I want to share with the world. Like it's not every single thing I would have posted in real time. Uh so that for me really helped me stay grounded, not only in my routine, but in the moment. Because again, when you start uploading on social media, it really throws off your routine in me personally in so many ways. Because then there's the respond with the likes and the checking and all these things that happen. So that works for me.
SPEAKER_00So I love that you said that. I want to say this. I've always been that type of person. I did, in fact, not do that when I was in Japan. I want to say that because that was like my most recent um trip. I noticed I wait so long to post after I come back from a trip that sometimes it becomes so overwhelming that I just don't post, period. So I do think that if you're like me as it relates to that, like if you're not like me and you're like Crystal and you're like, okay, as soon as I get back, I'm posting cool. But sometimes I'll sit on the content. So I posted at night before I went to sleep. And granted, it was a whole time difference. So of course, in the morning, y'all's morning was my night and opposite and vice versa. I noticed when I did that and I woke up, then I was able to engage. But it's like, let me just let it out and go to bed. You know what I mean? So I think if you're really if your thing is to get the content out, of course, every trip depends on what it is. If it's a work trip or you gotta post, you gotta post. But if you feel like you're the type of person that you will sit on that content for months before letting it out the bag, then you should post maybe at nighttime or just like post in a time where you know that you're not gonna be checking. But I do I do think sometimes you should get it out. If you're anything like me, get it out. But if you're like Crystal and you're more organized with getting it out, then wait till you get back. And also no one knows you over there, so it's not like you gotta be worried about your safety too much, of course, with precaution. But I feel like overseas is better to post in real time sometimes because no one's gonna find you. So well, they may, but maybe they won't. Hopefully they won't.
SPEAKER_01Another thing, too, for me, because um again, it's really about knowing who you are. I know I cannot completely unplug from work. It just I don't feel good. It doesn't make me so I always do uh one hour of a fake workday. Okay. So whatever it is that I would do during my work
Light Work Blocks And Solo White Space
SPEAKER_01day, I cram as much as I can into an hour where I just like really lock in, get some stuff done, and then close my laptop Sayanara till tomorrow's fake hour of workday before I go enjoy the beach, the pool, whatever, because then I can genuinely unplug at that point mentally.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's a good one. I think another Tip I have is finding white space in the trip just for yourself, right? So especially if you're in a group, if you're on a group trip, I think that could look like you wandering to a different part of um of the resort. I can't tell you how many times I've spent on resorts where I've gone back a second time and I was like, wow, I didn't even know this was here. Um so I think that if you spent more time wandering, and there's so many free things that you can get on resorts that you stay at that people don't really take advantage of. And I feel like another hour could be or you and or you taking a nap. Please do not be on a trip and not have people on a trip that are the nap police. You need your rest, okay? We are not, we are in our 30s. We love saying that on the podcast. We need a nap, okay? Because if not, Crystal, you remember how we were in Mexico, baby? I was falling asleep at dinner.
SPEAKER_01I was tired. I was tired. A good nap on vacation. Napping at home is very hard for me, but on vacation, I don't really have to think twice about it. I'm taking a nap, okay?
SPEAKER_00I don't take naps when I'm at home, but on vacation, I'm gonna try to get at least a good something. An hour nap on a vacation could feel like a full night's rest. But you know, when you have all these different things on the schedule, and I also don't want to be on those trips anymore. I don't wanna be on the trips where we gotta do something every hour of every day. Please don't sign me up for that. I don't wanna do, I don't wanna, I don't wanna jet ski, I don't wanna do any of this. Four wheelers, I don't want to four-wheeler, I don't wanna swim with the dolphins, I don't wanna go try a restaurant, I don't wanna go to the shops all in one day. No, I don't want an excursion one day. Why like why are we acting like we can't come back to the Bahamas again? It's not just one in once in a lifetime. We're gonna come back. My goodness. I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. Girl, they're gonna tear you up. Get ready. Listen, I said it's a good one. Like, y'all can't go on a trip again.
SPEAKER_01No. I have very much grown out of excursions and I'm also a scary cat. The older I get, the more I'm like, no, I don't want to zip line through the jungle. I'm good on the ground. I'm good. When I was younger, I'd be like, yeah, let's do it.
SPEAKER_00Now, not so much. I was more of a daredevil back then. I can't, what where was I? Was I in Tulum or Cancun? Like where we were walking across in the jungle on like a rope thing that was across, and it was like some of the ladder leg, whatever footstools were missing. I was like, oh, this is dangerous. Like, yeah, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not signing up for that. I'm not signing up for that.
SPEAKER_01And I know we're talking a lot about like not losing ourselves and our routines in the process of being on vacation, but can we talk about not losing too much money? We need to talk about that. Because not only on vacation is it expensive, but the whole lead
Spend Smarter And Pack With Intention
SPEAKER_01up, like we we just gotta do better. Like, we should not be coming back from the vacation or even going into a vacation feeling like, oh my god, the vacation Olympics miss me, girl. I did my own eyebrows today. Okay. My eyebrow girl might not see me again. I love it. Or let me figure out how to take them.
SPEAKER_00No, and they look great. They look amazing. I love that. Oh, and I'm gonna I'm gonna see them up close on Sunday. Let me see. Let me see. Let me see. No, that's good. We gotta learn to do our own thing. There's some things I will do myself, but some things I'm just like, mm-mm. I'm not, I'm not complicated. Like my nails.
SPEAKER_01Like, I know I gotta go to the girls wall to do my nails. Yeah, and that's the nails I'm not. But things that I can do, I'm just like, I'm gonna do it myself. And I think also we, you and I, are on a trip so much, it's very unrealistic to constantly do the vacation and trip Olympics every time we're about to get on a flight. No ma'am.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I agree. And I used to be the person, I'm not embarrassed to say it, where I would buy all these things to go on a trip. And I would see myself spending so much money, the unnecessary money. And I'm actually even embarrassed to say doing that for a trip. Like paying, buying all the outfits and getting all the things that you need for the trip. Like you don't really need to do that every single time you go somewhere. One, look in what you look at what you have in your closet, remix some outfits, and also learn how to pack like one item to go with three different items. Like make outfits be transitional, whether you have like one pair of black pants that can go with four different tops or one top that can go with three different bottoms. So that that way you can pack more efficiently. And another thing I was gonna say is on top of like the not spending money as it relates to going on trips, something else I think we really need to stop doing, ladies. And I don't know if you're one of these people that do does this on the trip, but when we get to said destination, we're not going to the mall. We're not going to the store to buy something you forgot. Like, I do not like doing that. I cannot stand when I'm somewhere and one of my girlfriends is like, girl, I gotta go to the mall, get this shirt. Like, we're gonna make way with what we have because a lot of the times we go on these trips and we barely wear half of the things we packed. And we end up wasting the items or, you know, not using the items for the next time. So I think that we should just be more efficient with um, I guess, our clothing and just like, you know what I'm saying, repurposing items. And when you come back, have a designated place maybe that you put things that you want to reuse for another vacation. So, for example, for myself, in my bathroom, I have a designated drawer for toiletries. So every time I go on a trip, I don't have to buy a bunch of toiletries. I have a drawer full of toiletries that have been unused that I've bought over the years, that I've repurchased multiple times. That I'm like, okay, I got the little travel size deodorant, I got the travel size lotion. I don't gotta go to Target. I don't gotta go to Walmart. I don't have to go to these places.
SPEAKER_01That's me with my makeup in general. I got it in my cositas makeup chop back. Whenever I want to get up and go, I grab that, I grab it by the string and I get going. That thing goes right into my suitcase. It's so important to just be ready to be on plain girl, especially in the times we live in, unprecedented times we live in right now, God forbid.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01But like you just you just want to make sure you got your stuff together in all different ways.
SPEAKER_00And I'm not there yet. So if you are one of the girlies that are there, please comment on our episode, whether it's on YouTube, Apple, or wherever you get your podcast and let us know what your tips are. But I feel like we have to be prepared more for all trips to pack in a carry-on. I remember we had Jody on our podcast and she was talking about how she travels with her carry-on when she was going to like, I think, to CAN because she was going to Africa or something after that. And I'm like, girl, how do you pack all this in a carry-on? Like, I want to become that girl. So if you have tips on packing for international long duration trips on in a carry-on, please send it my way because I want to be more like that. I hate tracking my suitcase on the app because I'm so scared to see if it made it to destination. I just, I don't want to live that life all the time. Yeah. Um, so yeah, that's something. Okay, so as it relates to traveling, why do you feel like so many people like don't stick to their routines?
SPEAKER_01You know what? I think it's I just think you really abandon your routine when you are not satisfied
Build A Life You Don’t Escape
SPEAKER_01with the life you live at home. And let me let me peel that apart a little bit. But like you won't feel like you need a vacation every couple of weeks if you build a life that you don't have to vacation from. And that's down to the amount that you work. If you feel burnt out, it's because you are. It is literally because you are working too much, you're doing something too much that's making you feel burnt out, showing up for other people too much more than you show up for yourself. Whatever it is, when people go on vacation, they feel like they're escaping from their like everyday life. And I think that that's a big sign that you need to rearrange some stuff when you get back home. And sometimes people go on vacation to like experience different cities and stuff like that, and just to put their feet in the sand. And I think that's totally okay. But I think those people who are doing it just to have an experience and not necessarily to get away are the people who find it easier to maintain the importance in their routines, whether it's the coffee in the morning or the working out in the morning or the journaling, whatever it is. Those people find it easier to maintain those things while they're on vacation because they're not necessarily trying to escape um the things they're leaving behind back at home.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I I agree. I think people take traveling as their own personal responsibility to escape their norms versus taking it as a chance to just recharge. I feel like if people did spend a lot more time, I get it, we we all we always see on social media, you gotta be more whimsical, you gotta have hobbies, you have to have this, you have to have that. But I I I do agree with you, Crystal. I think that if people spent more time, I think like just making their daily habits more dreamy or vacation-y or whatever the words is that, you know, just making it more soft, um, that we wouldn't really have to feel like that when we're on vacation. Yeah. Because it vacation is wherever you are. Like you are the vacation sis. It's wherever you are. And if that means taking a couple of more minutes to make your matcha or hurrying up to get ready so that you can make your matcha and do it, because matcha takes a long time, um, then do that. Or, you know, like when you're heading to work, if it's like listening to your favorite book, listen to the book, listen to your favorite podcast, make sure it's podcasts. Um, you know, yeah, romanticizing your everyday. Yeah. Like little pockets. It doesn't have to be every single thing. Because let's be realistic. Everything that we do, all of our daily tasks are not romantic at all. But there are certain things that you can do, whether it's your skincare routine, your nightly routine, or your morning routine, doing something for yourself every single day so that when you're on the vacation, you're kind of taking that with you. You know what I mean? Like you notice, like you got a skincare routine at home, you don't want more than likely have a skincare routine in Tulum. You know what I mean? Like you're gonna take that with you wherever you go. So I think that is so important for us to do is romanticize our day-to-day, wherever you are. You are the vacation. Don't forget.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And you know what? It's so funny. I seen a video, like we know from nine to five, like that's what people work, right? It's so normalized to us. But I seen a girl um write out the 24 hours in the day on a piece of paper, and then she was like cutting it, like cutting off time. She was like, Okay, so you work for seven hours, that's cut off seven hours or whatever. And she was like, Oh, but then you have to get ready, and then when you get home, you cut this. Basically, she ended up with like two hours of the day to herself, and she was like, This is not normal. And it blew my mind to see it in a physical form. And I'm saying that because when I say like if you feel burnt out, give yourself grace. I really need it. The amount of time that we spend working and doing this and doing that, and just trying to keep up with life is not normal. And I think we need to start acknowledging that and stop sweeping things under the rug. So when you are feeling burnt out or something, that's it's a reflection that something's gotta change in your everyday life. So you don't constantly feel like you gotta go on vacation because guess what? When you come back from that vacation, if you're overspending, now you're right back where you started.
SPEAKER_00I agree.
SPEAKER_01Get on the hair screw immediately.
SPEAKER_00I agree. In always. Another tip that I want us to talk about on today's show is how we balance having an enjoyable trip without feeling like we're overindulging. Because I feel like a lot of the times when you go on these vacations and you
Moderation With Drinks And Everything
SPEAKER_00take trips, we kind of just everything goes out the window. And personally for me, and I think I mentioned this on the show the last couple of episodes, is I'm not trying to drink as much. Not, I'm not saying I'm gonna cut out drinking. I mean, for crying out loud, my last name is Booze. I don't think I'm gonna cut it out all the way, right? But I do think I'm not a shots girl. So like don't offer me one. Like, I don't want to take a shot. I will have a drink, but I don't think it, I don't think having fun requires taking shots. And I think teach is on. If you want to take a shot, cool. And I'm not, you know, I'm not saying for the rest of my life I'm never in my life gonna take a shot. Like that'd be crazy to say, but I wouldn't, that wouldn't be my preference. And also I think it's weird sometimes when you're taking shots of people and they just like staring you down to see how you take it. Like, oh, she took that. Like, why is that like, like, why, why is that like a like a fun thing? Like, I don't know. It just so I say all this to say. I feel like you can be on the trips and you can have fun, you can have your cocktails, your pina coladas, your daiquiries, like all that. But I think we can do it like, you know, on consumption. It's like, you know, I'm gonna be cute because I want to remember the trip tomorrow. I don't want to be on the trip and be so blacked out. I'm not, I'm past the age of blacking out. Like, I don't want to black, I don't want to black out anywhere. I don't want to be on a trip where I'm blacked out because first of all, you're dehydrated. Your skin is gonna look dehydrated, you're gonna feel dehydrated, and then it's like, well, what happens to the summer glow? These also straight up. Especially, especially international. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I agree. I think everything in moderation is very important from the drinking to the spending to the eating. How much you go on vacation to the eating, everything in moderation.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Everything. Yeah, I agree a thousand percent on that.
SPEAKER_01So that said, y'all, as you're preparing for your trips this summer, I really want to challenge you all to think about what are your non-negotiables when it comes to maintaining your routine. So when you get back home, you don't feel like, oh, sluggish having to get back in the gym or whatever. Like, you you want to make sure that you maintain yourself, you stay in your bag. So really challenge yourself to think like, what are your non-negotiables, whether you're on the beach or even the office or you ask.
