Did you know that Buster Rhymes' original rap name was Chill O Ski?
SPEAKER_00I didn't, but I'm not surprised.
SPEAKER_01Why are you not surprised about that?
SPEAKER_00It's just a different kind of cat. Especially like 90s bucket.
SPEAKER_01Well, apparently, because like it wasn't given to him by it was it wasn't like a I think it was Kumo D. I forget exactly, or not Big Daddy Kane, but it was like Kumo D or somebody gave him that the original one, and then or it was Kumo D who gave him the hey, there was a football player named like Gregory Buster Rhymes, and that just kind of stuck with him apparently.
SPEAKER_00I messed with it.
SPEAKER_01I've always liked Buster Rhymes. I thought that was a really cool hip hop nickname.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, he I always messed with me. Buster seemed like a cool cat.
SPEAKER_01I do like the way that he describes the way that he gets on the uh look at me now track. How it was originally read for Nelly, and then he started hearing Chris and like the beat going, and he goes, Um, I'm I'm gonna do something with this. I thought it was a really cool way that like how the music industry can sometimes like it is not a programmed way that you're supposed to make a track, it can just be I was walking down the hallway in the studio and I heard something that spoke to me, and I want to be a part of it. I didn't know Nelly was supposed to be on it. Yeah, apparently, yeah, the song was originally written for Nelly, and he was just in the same studio at the same time. And I guess he said to Chris Brown at the time, hey, keep the diastro when you keep when you're doing that thing over there. That's where it came from. And he goes, Him, him or the producer said, say that one more time, and then he said it again. He goes, I need you on the track. It's like it's just it's crazy how music can just just or just life in general can unexpectedly inadvertently put you in the right place at the right, not that Buster wasn't already, you know, a made man, but just the impromptu nice of it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I mean, you know, it just I couldn't picture Nelly on that track.
SPEAKER_01Like, I just no, I don't think I could either, especially like now that we've heard it so many times, I don't know what he would have brought to it. Just some country twang.
SPEAKER_00That's it. That's that's you hating Illinois again. Just this even sounded like Xavier Leggett or something on there, like I don't find me in Saint Lou Way, like, yeah, all right, bro.
SPEAKER_01Well, I think what's what what's what is great though is that now that I because of the the way the structure is of the structure of the song where it's got Chris Brown and then it goes into Buster Rhymes and then it goes into Little Wayne, I feel like it would have been too much high pitch, and I'm probably overanalyzing it now, but it was such it was such a great orchestrated song. Like you if whether you hate it or love it, is one thing or another, but just now that I now that I brought to you and you didn't know that Nelly was supposed to be on it. Nelly, I think that obviously the lyrics would have been different, but I feel like it wouldn't hit anywhere close to the same as it did with Bus on that track.
SPEAKER_00No, absolutely not. Like Cornell Hayes can sit his ass down. Like, no, we we cool with what happened. It's like, you know, it's there's a lot of stuff that was supposed to happen and didn't, and it just worked out for the better. Like, like the Bulls trading for Sam Bowie and trade Michael Jordan. No, didn't happen. Thank God. Nelly's not on that track. Thank god. Thank God.
SPEAKER_01Now, if Nelly was from Chicago, would you have wanted him to be on that track? Or would it still be the same sentiment?
SPEAKER_00No, he stole my woman, so no. I'm cool on Nelly.
SPEAKER_01Stole your woman.
SPEAKER_00I'm not who that Ashanti. Oh, yeah. So fair enough.
SPEAKER_01So before we get into the today's episode, it is brought to you by the great people at Cozy Earth. Mother's Day is around the corner. I'm just lazy and I don't promote anything, but you can get stuff and get a bunch of stuff off for Mother's Day because that's on Sunday. Anyway, so was there anything before we get to what's actually scheduled to talk about? Was there anything that you wanted to kind of catch up on, sports-related? Anything else? Because I also have to I have a I have a gripe to pick with people who love to travel after you have that floor.
SPEAKER_00No, I'm um I'm I'm I'm gonna try to stick to the script today. I don't have anything that I can think of.
SPEAKER_01All right, well tell and if and for everybody who's watching, if you got questions, comments, uh other topics you want to talk about, we're here for a good time and a somewhat long time, so feel free to to to chime in. So we went to South Carolina for vacation, and it was a work function for my wife, and I'm six foot three and traveled from Alaska to South Carolina and had three flights and South Carolina back to Alaska and had four flights, and I don't understand why people love traveling so much. Maybe the destination is what you're all you care about. The actual flights, I hate flying, and if I'm not gonna be gone for at least a week, a full week of enjoyment, I don't want to go.
SPEAKER_00I don't I don't mind flying, um, because I've driven all over the country so much. So flying is like a luxury to me. Like, I don't hell, even what in two weeks, I'm driving to Virginia. Yeah, because that's 12 hours I want to spend in the car with all these kids and two dogs, and then to turn around and drive back in two days. Yeah, so flying.
SPEAKER_01So I'm okay with the things that obviously with me being Alaska, I I have to drive. I can I can drive through Canada if I want to, but flying is obviously the more it's the more it's weird because because I don't enjoy the experience of flying, being how tall I am and being cramped in those aisles and seats. Um I I I don't want to ever experience it. Every time I get on a plane, I'm like, this is the worst thing, and it's wild because I think, oh my god, it's gonna take me four hours or six hours to get to Minneapolis, and then once I land, I'm like, I just got to Minneapolis in six hours, so it's kind of crazy. But again, like and if I'm not experiencing what I want to experience for at least a week for me personally, a flight is not worth it. I can understand that, or maybe Seattle, because Seattle's like two and a half hours. All right, I can do that, but I don't want to do anything in Seattle, though.
SPEAKER_00You don't want to experience the rain, maybe go to a mariners game.
SPEAKER_01I have McDonald's rain at home, good sir. I don't need to travel three hours for it.
SPEAKER_00You don't want to see where they throw the fish.
SPEAKER_01I've been I've been to pikes, like that. I saw one time because uh my wife and I took our son there for his third birthday for a mariners game, and we left in the fourth inning. But uh, that's neither here nor there. But but I got to see that. It's it's a fun experience, but I don't know, man. It's just just even rainier, rainier Alaska basically. Understood, understood, but South Carolina was cool. So I got do you remember Gulla Gullah Island? Bingya, bing yep, curly walk, everybody's favorite frog. So we stayed in Bluffton, and the resort was extremely uncomfortable, mostly because it was like a 30-star resort, and Trevor Lawrence was there. It was wild, it was it was crazy. But I got to sing and dance with the gullahs and got to sing this little lot of mine, and once I was done, I said, Hun, did you get video of that? That's my that's my best memory from this. And she goes, No, because I was enjoying the moment, and I said, Nobody is gonna believe me when I tell this story, but it was it was so cool, man. Also, and the food, the food was so ridiculous. Once I got up here, I said, I'm just ordering out every day because not nothing, nothing is I don't want to compare our gourmet food to anybody else's, it is going to pale in comparison.
SPEAKER_00See, that's where I like I feel like I'm spoiled being from Chicago because like when I travel places, I'm like, This is your food. Like, no, we have this better at home. Like when I lived in Virginia, I'm like, man, I want a pizza puff. And people are like, What is a pizza puff? Excuse me. You want cultured swine? You know what a pizza puff is? It is a deep fried hot pocket, basically, and they good as hell, yes. And you you you have some fries with some mild sauce on the fries. Absolutely. I love the cuisine here. You don't get this this round, you hear that? That's belly, you don't get that without eating. I was not calling you over, yeah, but she don't know that.
SPEAKER_01I will say that was the thing, too, is like when we when we went down there, they had a bunch of you know fish, and it was like red snapper and salmon. And my wife is from Southeast Alaska, she was born and raised there. So every time that we go anywhere else and they got salmon or things like that, she goes, I'm not gonna have this, it's not gonna be fresh. They know what they're doing out there, man. I swear, because I I get I get collar greens every once in a while up here because nobody knows how to make them, but I enjoy them. They had that with some oxtail, and I swear to god, man. I'm I told you is this was this ticket a one way? Because I'm staying put. God's so good. The food, it was luckily everything was like all expenses paid because it was a trip for my wife for her work, but yeah, man. If the food, the food was I was willing to not come back home just for that.
SPEAKER_00That's how I feel about barbecue. Like, after I went to Kansas City, I don't I don't want barbecue no more. It ruins it. Yeah, yeah. I'm like, I went to uh Gates in Kansas City, and we got a platter. The platter is a good two feet around, all like, and it's nothing but meat, it's brisket, it's ham, it's smoked turkey, smoked chicken, smoked sausage, and in the middle is just barbecue sauce, pickles, and onions, and underneath all the meat is just bread, white bread, and that was the first time in life I had the meat sweats.
SPEAKER_01Man, you got you you can't be talking dirty me like that because I will I will leave a last I will leave AK for KC real quick.
SPEAKER_00I swear to like the best. Like I rarely eat barbecue because of that. Like this, like this is trash compared to that.
SPEAKER_01It does, man. Like the high the high, the people who really know what they're doing and want to experience it, especially it maybe it's different because it's not where you're from and it just has like an elevated taste. It's almost like hotel sex when you're on vacation, like yeah, that's different than it is like having like that regular shit, it just is what it is, but but that's enough about my venture in the hodgepodge and everything like that. So let's get into we went through the hodgepodge, went through planes. I don't I'm not a big fan. The be ripe and not get it right. This is kind of a little self-indulgent, but it also is also um just the way that we uh collectively, not not necessarily like you and I, but sports fans in general, of whatever's the last thing that happened is the best or worst thing, or um people who aggregate and kind of pick and pull certain arguments that you've made and then want to make it about them. And it started the whole reason why it started this was because of Justin Lee, the Kobe stand, the J the Josh Allen stand, and uh I'll I'll I don't talk bad about anybody, but that's what it happens. And every time he aggregates it down to well, you said you'd rather have Tyrod Taylor than than Josh Allen. This little synopsis and a recap is I didn't say that, but what we are what we've done is we've dumbed sports down to have you won championships, what have you done? And I'm saying, well, Tyrod Taylor helped drag that team through the mud and got to a playoff appearance, and Josh Allen's gotten to more. But why would you pay somebody 55 million dollars with no Super Bowls? Because if we're only gonna do ring culture and that's what we're doing, yeah, give me Tyrod Taylor for a 50th of a price, and then go do the exact same thing with no championships. Like, that's if you're gonna if you're gonna put it into the ether that that's how we measure these athletes, then yeah, go ahead and do it that way. But it's also come down to um the get it right but don't want to get it right. Is it when it comes to these these game the sports with series? Why are we still doing this with the talking heads of whoever wins the last game automatically is the favorite to win the series?
SPEAKER_00I mean, most times it's just probabilities, like I don't, but I get what you're saying.
SPEAKER_01It's like you're up 3-0, and then somebody wins game four, like the other team wins game four. Like, oh, watch out for a comeback. 99.99 of the time that thing is done.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but ask LaShawn about his cavalry, his um his former Indians, they were up three to one in the World Series, and you know, some little team from Chicago made history.
SPEAKER_01Oh no, I meant when they're when they're down like two, if it's three-o, things like that, and that they get they get that one to push it to three to one. Yeah, I used to understand like why I used to understand like why we why why we do this repeatedly. I I can't tell if it's just because people can't organize their own thoughts and they just talk about the talking heads, but all they do is complain about the talking heads.
SPEAKER_00I mean, people people want it, people want it, they want to see the comeback from 3-0 and things like that. So I'm it's really you have no choice but to talk about it because what are we talking about? The team that's up 3-0, and you know, like the Thunder, they just now they beat the dog piss out of the sun. It wasn't even no reason to talk about it.
SPEAKER_01No, but I think the thing that could because I I my mind just never shuts down is if we have that, especially in this day and age, where I don't deal with absolutes. I feel like absolutes are largely built for idiots and children. There's always some kind of variance, there's always going to be some kind of variable. Um guy gets injured. Uh, like there could be any there could be any circumstance, but I just don't understand where we we've come to this place where we can't acknowledge that sorry, I got off Tali because we sorry, I um but when it comes to the three-o lead, like we we come to a conspiracy theory process where if somebody comes back from a 3-0 lead or for a 3-0 deficit, it's well now it's staged. Now it's what are we supposed with the referee scandals and everybody thinking that it's about TV money and not about the product on the field or the court. I feel like people have dissected this so much where they can't even just enjoy what's in front of them, they have to make an excuse if their team or their prediction loses and just can't enjoy what's actually in front of them. It's so annoying.
SPEAKER_00Absolutely, just like Sunday. When Sunday comes around and this NBA lottery happens, if the Bulls don't get the number one pick, oh, it was fixed. The fix was in for whoever went. Like, that's what I'm ready for. That's gonna be me on Sunday night. So, like, if the Jazz, I appreciate that.
SPEAKER_01You would you at least know who you are as a person, as a sports fan, like you're open about it, but don't hide behind the keyboard, don't hide behind the shield of I'm a I'm this. No, no, no, no. I appreciate that about you.
SPEAKER_00No, I'm I'm not a huge conspiracy theorist. Honestly, like if I'm really being honest, if the bulls do win the lottery, yeah, it was fixed.
SPEAKER_01The NBA feels like they you think you think if the bill if the bulls won the lottery, you think it's fixed?
SPEAKER_00Absolutely, they got a four percent chance, yeah.
SPEAKER_01I mean, yeah, it's fixed. But what where where where do they pick? What's their draft pick? Ninth. Oh, okay. Oh, as far as the the probability, yeah.
SPEAKER_00They're ninth, so they got a four percent chance to go up and and win it. I'm praying we do because we need some star power.
SPEAKER_01We need but it sounds like so. I don't watch a lot of college hoops, but it sounds like it's pretty deeper, even if I mean nine's a little far down the picking order to probably get a gate, like an actual roster and franchise changing person, even though the NBA is like it's littered with people who are not top five players and and still are MVPs and contributors. But if it's that deep of a draft, if you know exactly where you want to go, you can probably move up to get the guy that you want at least. But I mean, for oh, go ahead.
SPEAKER_00Bulls got two first-round picks, so it's like you know, they pick nine, they're scheduled to pick nine, and then they are locked in at 15. But if I mean it just makes too much sense for the Bulls to win the lottery. You go up to one, the guy is AJ the Banster. AJ the Bullsta, like, come on, come on, the merchandise is gonna sell and still.
SPEAKER_01I I love where your head's at because if I were a Bulls fan and I was that deep in the trenches, my mind would have gone towards the exact same thing.
SPEAKER_00The the merchandise writes itself, and I'm gonna have a the boolster jersey, like yo, he should wear 32 and he be MJ the Bullsta.
SPEAKER_01Like he'll figure out a way to make it work. But Nigel's in the chat, and he goes, he goes, those people are dumb as the the conspiracy. But the thing is, like, I but I also get it to a degree of why people are skeptical about what uh happens with the outcome of sports because uh we've seen players, officials, coaches, they have all sold out, they've all sold at every single level, and so the the uh not the criticism, I guess, but like just the the the uncertainty of what you're getting game in and game out, I think is a is a valid point, but when you take it to an extreme, then it does, it becomes a tinfoil hat, it becomes a uh conspiracy theory more than just a questioning of what's what's the the product in front of you. Should you question it, or is it really being is it a wrestling script?
SPEAKER_00I I'm not a oh, it was fixed and like. I don't know. Maybe it's because I know a few professional athletes and like I know that they they like they their hearts are in this shit. So like for people to think that it's fixed and like these players would now some players would lay down for a check. I would, but a lot of these guys wouldn't. Man, you I don't know. Oh, you want to run a championship or you want a hundred million dollars? I want the hundred M's. I can buy a ring. There you go.
SPEAKER_01I think what's so wild too is that it it's because again, that if before the whole social media thing kind of blew up, right? There were there were only so many voices that you could listen to, there were only so many outlets, and now that there's sports and especially live sports has become so huge, you get to a point where um there's too many opinions kind of in your ear and things you didn't think of, which is good because learning is good and and having a different perspective is fine, but it also comes with we were cheated because of X, Y, and Z. And also we've seen how these guys are so precise with what they do because of the repetition, and when it happens in playoff moments, that's where it happens, where you see the kicker who's never missed a field goal ever, and then you get they and then and then you get the announcer say he's nine, he's he's 38 for 39 inside of 40 yards, and what you get a double doink. Like, I didn't mean to do that. I didn't mean to do that. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to I didn't mean to do that.
SPEAKER_00See, I didn't mean to it happened, but it's hey white right happened too.
SPEAKER_01Wide right happened too, dog.
SPEAKER_00Like it's he hit the post again. Like I can still hear Al Michaels, man.
SPEAKER_01Like it's so funny because I don't know if your mind went the exact same way that I did, but my mind went to Mighty Ducks when he double doinked it. I went to Mighty Ducks like they were playing the with uh Gordon Bombay and the Finland dude, the coaches hitting all the pipes, you know, challenges. That's what I was that's that's where my man my mind went to.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I had just had knee surgery. I was I couldn't watch, I'm literally standing on crutches facing the opposite way because I couldn't watch Cody Parkey, and then he misses the kick and then goes on the today show the next day. I've been getting death threats. Like, yeah, you deserve the death threats piece of shit.
SPEAKER_01I think like the thing is I I know I say I know that you're joking, but now I'm not sure.
SPEAKER_00Um he'd been done just for being a little bitch, not for missing the kick.
SPEAKER_01Like it is it is the whitest thing to do. Like, it would be like if Harrison Bucker did it.
SPEAKER_00Crying these damn, he was crying white woman tears. Like, what are what are we doing?
SPEAKER_01Both of those guys look like they seasoned their chicken with thoughts and prayers.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, shout out to Bronson Black. I think he does too.
SPEAKER_01Jahan Phillips. Hey, it's I think it's the first time that Jahan's been up in here and uh in the chat. Good to see you, man. He said big unk CR in the building. Yeah. Oh, that was that was so unenthusiastic. You just ruined it. I was trying to I was trying to hype up I'm still thinking about Cody Parkey.
SPEAKER_00I'm I'm sorry. I just I just want to run the fate. I just want to take the glasses off Cody Parky. Let's run the fade. Me and you, and like it'll just be over with, like, but we gotta run this fade.
SPEAKER_01I will say the one person, like when you when he said that he was getting death threats, I think the one thing that was wild, it seems I try to be a very compassionate person, but I also understand that fantasy football means a lot to people, and people are wild. Was when Matt Schaub had like 19 pick sixes in three games, and I said, Well, man, I don't know, dog. I I thought that was probably coming from your own front office.
SPEAKER_00That probably wasn't some random fan, but not the GM sending on the burning tablet. Yeah, it did happen against the Eagles, too. I I know, I know. Uh yeah, I'm glad y'all. I mean, I hope I hope y'all keep AJ Brown and he stays unhappy. How about that?
SPEAKER_01I've been saying this is what I've been saying for months, and I'm not look, I'm not saying it's going to happen before we move on, but I personally believe conspiracy theorists here that they made all those moves because they're moving Devontae Smith and they're keeping AJ Brown. And I also think that you might see Jalen Hurts on the trade block.
SPEAKER_00All I got, I I don't maybe come on down.
SPEAKER_01Uh I'd be very surprised if they did.
SPEAKER_00I don't think that AJ should be allowed to be moved to the Patriots after all this Vrabel Roussini stuff that's come out and all that tampering.
SPEAKER_01I that's all he does is tamper, right?
SPEAKER_00Man, who knew Mike Vrabel was down with OPP? That's crazy. Yeah, you know Russi. Man, and then all the clips with her talking about her husband. Did you see the clip today where they were on the boat together while she was pregnant?
SPEAKER_01Bro, I got I got so many mixed emotions about this because, like, when it first dropped, it was it was kind of I don't want to say funny, but the memes were kind of funny, they were clever, and it's almost gotten to a point where to to to pick up on another patriot is like with Tom Brady when they had the roast of him and they just kept grilling him about Giselle. And I thought this is getting kind of uncomfortable, and they're not but I mean the thing is like Tom allegedly, I don't know, maybe Tom was doing something on the side as well, but just hammering home and the low-hanging fruit of it started to be less funny, and this is something where this is less funny to me now. And man, that dude, Mr. Roussini, has just gotta be, he has to feel super embarrassed, and like I wasn't gonna, I didn't want to bring it up initially because I thought you know, but also this uh this is a podcast from Alaska, so it is what it is. But that man just has to be absolutely defeated as a person with and but also maybe he knew when he just did the thing, is that we also don't know maybe he just didn't care, maybe he knew what he was getting himself into. I don't know, but at this point in time, with it being this public, I would bro, I would fly to a country where people had never even heard of American football.
SPEAKER_00So either he didn't know or he was a cook, those are really the only two options, and I don't like dealing with extremes, but it's really hard to argue either one of them. The like, and the thing about it for me is like uh supposedly this has been going on for like six-seven years. She names her kid Michael.
SPEAKER_01That's that's the one, and one of the guys. So I'm not I'm not I'm Facebook friends with this guy, but I don't really know about him. And he's a dude in Pittsburgh, so but I see you know when you scroll through your phone every once in a while, you'll see what somebody comments on who's a friend of yours, right? So when I saw that, they go, Oh, they named it, he's like, Oh, it's no, it's Mike's kid, like it the the seven the seven-month pregnancy was not they named it after him, it was his kid. I'm like, God, man, that is a yikes, yeah.
SPEAKER_00And what what do you do? Like, as the as the dad, it's like, do I go and get this DNA test done and shatter my whole world? It's when I'm the only like makes you wonder. Or is it just like you know what? Ignorance is bliss. This is my kid, I've been raising them the like, yeah.
SPEAKER_01No, I know, right? It's it's that that that whole that whole scenario is not. I mean, I wouldn't wish that on anybody, man, but it does, it does, it gets to a point where I feel like enough is enough, and it's not gonna happen though. The internet never forgets and it never stops, like it'll subside to a degree in in time and in theory, but is this enough to push him out as being coach? Because I'm seeing that more now, is that he is going to have to resign, and I don't know, man.
SPEAKER_00Like, he's he's he's he's not he's not mayo, like it's it shouldn't be enough for him to have to resign. Like, at what point is this like, hey, you kind of messed up your morality clause in your contract, buddy. But I mean, I guess when your owners go out there getting rub and tugs himself, like he don't care, right?
SPEAKER_01Mike Vrabel, Robert Kraft is not the correct messenger for what is going on right now, and at this what frustrates me the most is that when players get fined for conduct detrimental to the team, when are we gonna start holding coaches accountable for that? I mean, the problem the problem is, and and you and I have had this conversation beforehand, they have no problem doing it with Ime Yadoka. Why we we we're just we're just we are just gonna keep this thing moving with Mike Vrabel because that's the Patriot way.
SPEAKER_00It's it's like I get I get it, but the thing with Ime, that was his subordinate, so it's like he had to go with this. My issue is at the end of the day, he's basically getting insider information, you know, has pillow talk.
SPEAKER_01Like that ain't that ain't cool, and the fact that the NFL's not even looking into it, no, it's inside the yeah, it's inside the guts try uh it's inside the guts private trading, man. Like it was right.
SPEAKER_00He hit the he hit the spot, and then she tell him a juicy tip about the dolphins. Like, come on, man.
SPEAKER_01Insider trading, man. Uh Jahan says, Prescott, it finally let me tag you, big dog. I hope you're having a good day, my boy. I appreciate that, man. I'm not sure where you tagged me at, but I appreciate you doing that, man. Uh, Nigel says I 100% do not advocate violence against women, but justified homicide comes to mind. Yikes, that was a bar. Um, uh, I'm sorry that I giggled that much at that, but I was I was not expecting that from Nigel. Obviously, Corey the Patriots fan says Vrabel slander.
SPEAKER_02Hmm, I don't care.
SPEAKER_01I'm a Bills fan, I know what you're here for. And um major differences is the reporter wasn't a subordinate, and and that's kind of where you got to. But the thing also is that like you're still like you said, man, you might be getting you you might be getting the launch codes for certain NFL franchises for somebody who has that kind of you know NFL intel, if you will.
SPEAKER_00Right, because I mean, for all I know, Diana Roussini was topping off the Bills coach in order to get secrets and passing them on to Mike Vrabel. He could have been pimping her out. We genuinely don't know.
SPEAKER_01Sean McDermott is an upstanding man, good sir. You do not slander that man that way.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, well, his his unemployment check, probably nice.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you know, it's just that's weird that he's also still on the market.
SPEAKER_00I mean, he because I heard something on the radio a couple days ago, um, and it was along the lines of like when the Titans, when Verber was with the Titans, they were trying to get Julio Jones, and Diana Roussini dropped a nugget, like, oh, a team is offering a first-round pick for Julio Jones. Well, other teams aren't willing to give up a first-round pick for Julio Jones, so the price dropped, and the other teams backed out, and the Titans slid right on in and made a deal for Julio Jones. Insider trading, it looked like the same thing's happening with AJ Brown.
SPEAKER_01Well, and the thing is, I I kind of hope, and and I know that it sounds about because we have a Patriots fan in the live chat, is that it seems like I don't want him to go to the Patriots. I don't really care, but by the same token, it's also I hope you have the day that you deserve and also go yourselves as fat as past fans, because this does feel like there may have been a handshake agreement on we're gonna do this, but from what I understand, and again, like I'm not that pressed to the news where I know what's true and what's not, because we also get lied to all the time as fans, because it's the easy way to just say what you're gonna say, move on to the next thing. Most people forget about it. Um, if there was a handshake deal in place, and they were supposed the whole reason they wanted to do is because AJ wanted to be with Vrabel again. If Rabel's not the coach, what is that? That blows the whole thing up, yeah.
SPEAKER_00It does. I don't think like Robert Kraft don't have no damn morals. They varel ain't going nowhere unless Vrabel wants to go somewhere. Like, that's that's just what it comes down to.
SPEAKER_01I really think do you think that craft would fire him? No, no, hell, he didn't want to release Aaron Hernandez, so that is I don't think that is a very that is a very true statement.
SPEAKER_00He looked me in my eyes and told me he didn't did it, he didn't do it with blood stains on his shirt. Like, okay, Robert Craft.
SPEAKER_01I love it. So this this I wasn't expecting this to turn into like a two-hour episode, especially because we got more things to talk about. But but but if Corey Brown's gonna make this a pass episode, I will go through the gauntlet of what he said for the justification or lack thereof of a Mr. Mike Rabel. Why would the NFL investigate two adults having a consenting relationship? Once again, because we have seen other coaches of color get fired for the exact same thing, it's not against any rule for an insider or reporter to share information with another.
SPEAKER_00It now that it is because even so coaches are not supposed to talk about players on other teams in any setting that is considered tampering, it does not matter.
SPEAKER_01So you can give them a compliment, but it has to be very vague. But also, the reporter, if they are it is it's insider trading if they're doing that. If if you're having an interview with a reporter and then they leak it to some so this is the thing that I've always hated sports commentary and especially post-game interviews, because they never give you anything, and the reason why they never give you anything is because they're gonna use what you say against them. That's why I think that coaches and former quarterbacks are awful when it comes to being in the booth, they're still robotic, they give you no personality, they give you nothing, and now but they're programmed to do that. And it's the same thing like when we have these people who are reporters, and if you're in a one-on-one situation, like if you're doing a Netflix documentary and you're retired and you're done with everything you got going on, that's one thing. But if you still got a gig, nope, you buttoned up and zipped up. And if you're giving information about game plans or scouting reports, that's a problem, excuse me, that's a problem.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it is. You're you know, I'm how can I say this? I'm speaking morally, I don't care personally, like it's I I agree with you. I'm a person like if you ain't cheating, you ain't trying.
SPEAKER_01Like, I that's what I believe, like by any means necessary, but you just talking about sports and not right, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Sports, sports, sports, of course, of course. No shit. Well, no, it's cheaper to keep her. No, we ain't no.
SPEAKER_01Well, I mean, look, look, look, since since since Ashanti's off the board, yeah, Ashanti off the board, Rihanna off the board.
SPEAKER_00I still shoot my shot at Oprah.
SPEAKER_01Hey man, you can still get anything she has. She has multiple, whatever you want, you get one, you get one.
SPEAKER_00I put her through the mattress for all that money that she got. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Corey says there is zero reason for Mike Vrabel to not be the head coach of the Patriots. Why would there be? I mean, we gave you multiple examples. This is just we're just running in circles at this point. Um, so apparently the the the standard is the standard is the standard, um, but it also doesn't hold any water and has no merit.
SPEAKER_00I think that's a very if Mike Variable was my coach, I would want to keep him, but I also would be aggravated with the distraction.
SPEAKER_01I think the the biggest thing for me is I I I feel like most it's almost like NBA officiating where you just want it to be consistent, where I'm with you, man. I don't care what you do in your it's technically off time, but it's still on time. What are you giggling at? I'm laughing at Nigel. I'm sorry. CR got the entire podcast canceled. I was talking about sports. That that comment that comment's goaded because if nobody was watching live, they're not gonna see like the little the little smirk, but it was it was a it was CR is gonna get this entire pod canceled by the R as of winter. G means crying. Oh man, and that's why I friend the way that I did it because I thought it was really funny because we were talking about Diana Rossini, and I was like, this this is not a good shop up moment. It's just it's gonna get aggravated just like Justin Lee would do it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I mean, we should be all right though. If if they ain't came and got Chud the builder yet, we should be all right. Yo, that's the why is the world like this?
SPEAKER_01Because I have no, I'm not kidding, dude. I have never heard of this guy at all until I would say three and a half hours ago, and now I've heard him. I've now I've heard of him twice, and he sounds like an awful human being.
SPEAKER_00Man, I just it's like all right, when you get what you're asking for, don't be mad about it. You're playing a dangerous game.
SPEAKER_01It is the epitome of. I mean, I said it once, but again, like I hope you get the day that you deserve. It's gonna get ugly. Leah won at some at some point in time, because I I saw that from uh from Godfrey, and that that's actually the the source that I got it from, and originally saw it was but he's he's right, man. If you know where this guy is, whatever you got is not gonna be enough for going forward, and we kind of didn't really get into the get it right, but be rabbit don't get it right thing that much. But I want to move on because we've been on here for about 45 minutes. I want to get to their talking points. This braun and and and MJ comparison thing has been it's it feels like it's been escalating over the years. Um, and I know that there's the there's the first take theory, right? There's always the skip baylist and the Stephen A. Smith, which apparently they're gonna reunite tomorrow thank god i'll be at work and that will not be a distraction because i don't i've never liked that show i don't like those two people i think they're both awful i think they're bad for sports in general i will text you and let you know how it's going you know what it's i won't be able to see it probably but i i if you can just once again aggregate and snippet a couple different things i would appreciate that but i have a couple different theories on why this mj and leBron debate has gotten so exponentially blown out of proportion over the last few years but i want to get your take on if if you do have one as to why we've gotten to this level of divisiveness and animosity almost people are stupid um there it is that was that was the show thanks for thanks for chiming in i mean i get it people are like really strong one way or really strong the other my take on it is lebron is the most talented basketball player to ever lace up some gym shoes michael jordan is the greatest competitor slash winner that we've ever seen on the basketball court is is really that simple for me like I'm not gonna you know like LeBron went to the finals what 10 straight years that's that's crazy i i but yeah I believe it was 10 straight Michael Jordan went six times but he never lost never even saw a game seven and I see I I that's where and Corey kind of just hit it right on the head is the reason why I believe that this has been exponentially why it's why it's gained more traction is because before Michael it was we never saw anybody better than it was Oscar Robertson it could be Kareem it could be Bill Russell uh it could be if you want to go super old head and say that you know that Bob Coozie or uh Jerry West was the best that's the thing back back back in the day if you went one and nine in the finals you became the logo like like things things things change man like the the way that we evolve and the way that we look and interpret and consume sports changes along with everything else in life so I understand why there is this device because like you said there's usually people in one camp or there's people in the other then there's people like me who believe that there is no GOAT because it's irrelevant it's a it's a ridiculous conversation to have but the fact that it's those two dudes does make it feel like what are we doing with everybody else that we're talking about if he's the close if MJ is supposed to be the god and the only other person you ever talk about is Bron I think that we've narrowed it down to the two best basketball players of all time yeah but then you got some people who throw Kobe in there see and I will never do that I don't think he's there but like a lot of people do. They and and and and you and I have had this conversation with you being on here before I I believe I know that me and Matt Zabrowski have this conversation offstage quite often is that had had things not had transpired with the way that him his daughter and those the other passengers and that helicopter happened his legacy is completely different because he did catch a lot of ball hog what the Lakers do on the back end of your career so on and so forth and it feels like you're punching down and I don't want to do that but at the same token it feels like it's being disrespectful to just the game of basketball to move the goalpost so much on what we thought he was at a certain point in time and then one catastrophic event happens and then we go you know what he was I always have him in my top three stop it like don't don't do that no so I'm a Kobe head but I didn't have Kobe in my top three Kobe's in my top 10 I'll admit that he's in my top 10 but I didn't have him in my top three or anything like that. I think that's look and again I again I think that these these top 10 lists and they're they're all absurd and it's bad for podcasting and radio and video because it's not good because everybody wants to debate everybody wants to yell and be mad about something I just don't care about that much because there are there's way too many factors that go into it yeah they three Peter when they had Shaq all right it got a couple of casal but there was a crazy stretch where the Lakers were just absolute cheeks with Kobe and there were a lot of years where Braun had some bad teams and they weren't ever they weren't ever that bad and I'm not trying to make and I and then no I know that it sounds like I'm caping up for him for for Braun more than anything else but it's just there's a reason why the debate is between largely two dudes because the MJ guys who can't they want to have him on that pedestal so much that they're scared of somebody who also wears 23 maybe infringing upon that dude's legacy and it's the old it's the only dude and they get defensive when when you infringe upon somebody's territory you get defensive and that's what people and that honestly the lebron guys are getting out of control too they are they are caping up so crazy hard like in a rebuttal stance he um yeah no the the lebron stands you know they they cup they they just they cup them and they like it's like bro what are you doing like it's it's it's sick it's like these dudes want to have lebron's kid or something like that man like I've never seen anything like this it's but see and this is and to get back on point of what Corey said like when I originally brought up the conversation pieces like when we get further like this is not anything out of the norm you know it's people who saw M like if if if you're 13 years old and you're watching basketball for the very first time and you see Michael Jordan do something and the way that people react you're like okay that's cool and they I guess it depends on when you saw it in real time but if you saw both guys LeBron and Michael do something with whatever isolated picture that you want to or video they would think that more often than not LeBron's is more impressive versus Jordan it it depends on what isolated moment you're talking about but we're just we're just kicking the can down the road we're just doing the exact same thing that people have always done well you weren't there you don't know what it's like and this behavior of the Braun versus MJ uh debate is just human nature it's just there's more people and more views and more uh opinions that are involved in it but it's nothing new it's it's all just personal preference like that that's that's all it comes down to is people's personal preference me like I will say it till I die until somebody shows me different that 2012 version of LeBron was the greatest thing I've ever seen in basketball shorts oh that was that was the uh the comeback tour after the match yeah like that was that lost that was incredible stupid i'm still not taking anybody like if i gotta win a game and this is me growing up as a bull like bro i never felt like i would be devastated when we lost regular season games because i didn't feel like we were ever supposed to lose like michael jordan is out there why would we lose nobody's touching him like when nick anderson stole that ball from michael jordan and they joint two free throws no but that was the next game but um sorry like that yeah you you you inhaled real deep like because bro that like that did something like what the hell just happened nick anderson just ripped mike up right and then the next game he came back as 23 and you know they got us that year we won three more championships right after that so we all good i love how you just casually i love how you always do that man like you get this swag about you where you would say yeah there's this and we're we're gonna we're gonna really have a debate and go yeah we got them three back to back though dogs we went 72 and 10 the next year you know golden state went 73 and 9 and then lost in the finals it don't mean a thing if you ain't got that ring let me ask you this real real quick were you sweating that were you sweating the 73 absolutely yeah i do you think this is where i i i i understand that as a as a bulls fan having the previous record the 72 and 10 having a ring but there's also the thing of like I don't think it would have been a stain on that bulls legacy because that roster it i don't look at it this way but I know that sports fans do is that having kd added to that squad had they had done 73 and nine and won a championship it would have made it feel what you did was more impressive right it's almost it's almost kind of like the 72 dolphins going undefeated and winning their championship and then the 07 Patriots going to feed and then losing but they had to win more games but they were also more dominant except for the Super Bowl but it those two things are I feel like they're synonymous with each other almost yeah they I'm not gonna lie uh I think like if we play that 73 and nine team and I know it's it's all hypothetical no this is what we're doing this is what we're doing you're Stephen A and I'm skip balis like they'll get they might get a game they might get the the the the 16 warriors yeah they might get a game like come on man here I ain't worried about Harrison Barnes and no you're not worried about KD and Steph and KD wasn't there yet that was the year before KD got there the 70 wasn't the oh that's right he joined them afterwards that's right that's right like a bitch yeah yeah after they after he was up in the playoff series and then they choked it away and yeah and he like man he won't like man can I hang with you can I roll with you can I be done with you can I be cool with you like a lane yeah that that was the have your friends call my friends we could be friends is that I would you yeah excuse me one second yo you got a 101 Dalmatians up in there and while CR has his has his mic muted we'll go back to the chat real quick um Corey is talking about Kobe and says when you watch a copycat and it's clearly a worse copy you can't compare the two LeBron originality and difference in the play is what makes him a more compelling case against MJ but man we we all here to have our own opinions i i again I aesthetically in their prime prefer to watch leBron over Michael it is what it is though that that that's an opinion and then go back to the Nigel's is a lack of early playoff success of MJ works in favor of LeBron's argument the fact that LeBron had the opportunity to come out of high school hears a longevity argument works in MJ's favor. And those are both valid points you gotta get them dogs you gotta get them dogs out of there huh no my Ubreeds came they don't if you come anywhere near this house they only oh that's what it was because I'll say like it was pretty quiet and then I heard I heard the dogs just get out of control so the the the food came yeah and they are they are you know they are going to attack anything that comes near their home so that's fair much like much like my one cat one cat is all you need I got three of them but the other oh I bet you would I bet you he would he wish you won that Super Bowl so you wouldn't be in this predicament. I'm sure Diana Roussini you know comforted him after the loss yeah then then little them canoodling yeah with them pasty cakes the flat pasty cakes is that is that where toaster stools came from flat pastries just I need to stop talking before I get canceled but I had more jokes and I was getting ahead of my brain um so the other the other thing I had was the uh the Jalen Brown saying that this was his his his most fun year and we can go into like Jason Tatum not playing seven game seven because you know you know he's Kobe he's the next coming of Kobe because mama life that's what we're told but and I don't really the thing is I don't really mind that he didn't play game seven but I'm just tired of people just making these it's like Ant-Man like oh he the next Jordan Jason Tatum is the next Kobe like can we just stop doing all this stuff prematurely but regardless uh the Jalen Brown thing is interesting to me of him saying that it was the most fun year that he had I have my own opinion on the entirety where where where were you kind of at with what he said how he said it the timing did did you disagree with it do you think that it was well articulated well played well timed I would think that this is probably the least as far as expectations that he's had since his rookie season um so by going going into this season started I mean let's let's be honest like Porzingis was gone Drew Holiday was gone jason Tatum was gone for the majority a lot of people myself included I thought the Celtics would be in the lottery possibly a fringe playoff team so maybe that's what he means like I I'm not I'm not in this the brother's head so that's how I'm gonna choose to take it because other than that it just comes off as a shot at Jason Tatum well I think so I think that this is this is why I love having like the the open conversations is because we don't know what's actually going on in these guys's head we're just making our we we talked about this with the press conferences and stuff earlier is that we don't we don't know what's actually going on upstairs and you're programmed to not do it especially if you are a certain caliber player and I don't think that Jalen Brown is considered to be a top fight MBA player right he's won a finals MVP Eastern Conference MVP he's he was the best player on a Celtics team that won a championship and every the only thing that people talk about is Jason Tatum and I think it has to do with the height the the look the way that he plays I think that there is aesthetically it's and and obviously that the whole I'm attached to Kobe thing only helps the brand even further but for him to say this was my best or more or my favorite season I mean I get it dude you've been on the trade block for years because you've always been at the very best he has been looked at as 1B and in your mind if you're the professional athlete and you're the guy who has the accolades that Tatum does not have I could see why he'd be pissed off I mean but Tatum the only thing that Tatum doesn't have is that finals MVP Tatum has been like first team all NBA the past five years before this year. Like to me it's not even a debate I remember I told you I was a Kobe head yeah I'm a I'm a I love Jason Tatum Tatum kind of like goes in with that I took look I think Jason Tatum is a top five player in the league um there's he has no holes in his game besides his shot selection but I mean when you when you that muff and you can hit that hey I just I get it I get it to a degree I don't think he's a top five player but because of age when completely upright maybe but I just I I understand 100% why Jalen Brown would say what he said and this is this is always tough for me is because I want I want athletes to give me what they actually feel but what they feel can sometimes get them in trouble. But Jalen Brown has also demonstrated enough where who doesn't want Jalen Brown yeah like he's this this is not gonna hurt his NBA stock he's gonna whether he gets traded and Nigel said I I'd cut him for that comment and I I mean monetarily you probably wouldn't but I mean even still I get it from the co from the coach angle with how Nigel treats things and I and I get it but I would I'm kind of team Jalen on this one I mean his his feelings are his feelings I'm not gonna crucify him for like well it's basically what AJ Brown said too like just I don't know AJ Brown was like I it was cool I won a Super Bowl I got one I'm still the best player on the field give me the ball I mean we'll know exactly how both sides feel by the end of the summer Jalen Brown is eligible for an extension come August that'll pay him upwards of 70 million dollars a season we'll see if Boston offers it we'll see if he takes it oh so oh so Jalen's up for an extension this this offseason yeah he's eligible for an extension so I mean we'll see I saw a rumor earlier today that Milwaukee's hoping that Boston calls and offers Jalen Brown for Giannis Giannis that and I was gonna say those those expiring contracts still matter like the aprons and there's so on and so forth but if he's on his last year and again I personally this is why when it comes to is I'm okay with trading your best player versus your second best player if the gap isn't so exponentially different. I know that Tatum has the accolades like you said with the first teams and everything like that. But if again we're going off accolades well if having the the finals MVP matters don't you want that guy on your team and not the guy who couldn't get it done in the finals like it just it really depends on what you're again I don't put that much stock into it but if we're gonna do it that way then my return on Jason Tatum would be higher than Jalen Brown.
SPEAKER_00But then you factor in the injury so their market value is probably about the same I would imagine right I I still think Tatum has more value right now even like because even coming off the injury like he came back like he didn't miss a step as far as to me it's it's coaching malpractice that he was playing that many minutes coming off of torn Achilles but he didn't
SPEAKER_01play game seven though with a different injury yeah with with a knee injury but they and and this the the coaching malpracticing i think is a very interesting point because why the hell is Missoula playing dudes who never play together ever because he he can't coach because he watches the town 19 times a day he ain't got enough time in his day like you know he they got the the ring but i don't think they won that championship because of joe mazzoula i hate how the Celtics play like i i i really do it's it's all threes or nothing like I hate how they play I think Joe Mazzula is an overrated coach well because he inherited a roster that was already crazy talented it was it's almost like the berry switzer cowboys yeah it's it's not it's not a perfect comparison but I feel like it's largely similar and um yeah like it's just weird it again the the the get it right versus the want to be right people are like well Joe Mizzo is an awful coach because he's weird and quirky then you win a championship and then he's always a great coach and they're they're constantly in the Easter conference finals so it's it's very hard to argue against how good he is at what he does but then you see some of their failures and you go all right anybody can not anybody but looking into a championship that happens sometimes and it feels like that's kind of where the Celtics are now yeah I don't I don't feel like Joe Mazzo is a difference making coach like to me Nick Nurse is a better coach like he just is I I'm I'm with you on that yeah Mizzula is just just I don't know he's mark dagno is a better coach Eric Spolstra as a as a coach as as as a person who has multiple keys and who's a dad does mark dagena look like a wee character to you I hate his face honestly it does he looks like a wee character man I can I can't unsee it yeah we we bowling he does yeah we bowling yeah mark daganau looks like a wee bowling character I'll tell you what man um do you have anything else you wanted to pop in do you want your uh you know Detroit nah they they they they took a big hit this week losing scuba for about two three months that's so you know but at least the Pistons are about to go up 2-0 on the Cavs it looks like so they got that going for them. Well that's good I that shows how how big of a person you are to to leave that for the next company I mean they can lose in the Oklahoma City invitational so yeah that's true we'll tell you what you guys have been hanging out with the playbook podcast with Prescott Kelly that's Sierra McGee coming to us from the great every time I say great you're like it's not that great. City Chicago in Illinois you guys know the drill stay up stay blessed we'll catch you guys on the next one
