A name can change a story—and this one changes ours for the better. Mind Over Her Heart is our commitment to clearer mental health conversations for women and the people who support them, with honest, lived insight into disability, care, and the systems we rely on. We share why the rebrand matters, how it sharpens our mission, and what you can expect from a new cadence: Tuesday and Thursday episodes, with guest conversations on Sundays.

We open with real life: tech hiccups, a raspy voice, and a bronchitis update that doesn’t silence the mic. From there, we go deep into cerebral palsy, unpacking spastic ataxia in plain language—what high muscle tone feels like, how contractures develop, and why metaphors like a “rubber band that won’t give” can help loved ones and clinicians understand. We also demystify Botox beyond beauty, exploring its role in managing migraines and spasticity, and how these decisions support daily function and long-term health. The goal is practical literacy: fewer myths, better conversations, kinder care.

Behind the scenes, we walk through the systems that make the show work. We’re partnering with editor Mark Ronick of I  Ronick Media, building community roots we’ve grown over 15 years in podcasting. We’ve moved our website to Podpage for a single, clean home with built-in players and discovery, and we’re hosting with Blubrry while noting when Buzzsprout or Libsyn may fit different needs. These choices aren’t shiny toys—they’re steady tools that keep the focus on what matters: accessible content, consistent releases, and a welcoming listener experience.

If you care about women’s mental health, disability education, and the practical side of care—from clinics to conference halls—you’re in the right place. Hit follow, share this with a friend who needs it, and leave a quick review to help others find Mind Over Her Heart. Your feedback shapes what we explore next.

SPEAKER_00:

You guys technical difficulties of course this morning. So I had to use a different browser on my phone. And yes, if my voice sounds a little bit off for I don't know how many recordings my voice has sounded off. Turns out I have bronchitis. I just found out that out yesterday, so it's always fun. At least it's not turned into pneumonia like it did a couple of times ago. Me being me and me having double-weakened lungs and at this point being bedbound, um, well partially bedbound, I should say. Um, but me being partially bedbound, yeah. CP and double-weakened lungs don't admix. So what I wanted to tell you guys is there will be changes. Um first of all, I'm changing the podcast name um from a gentle voice to mine a mind over her heart, which um I came up with that through a process of talking to people and um and literally talking to people and doing soaring on it. And the reason backstory over mind of a over mind of her heart is because my mental health podcast is designed primarily for women and those who support them primarily for women with disabilities, but women without disabilities alike, because I like to teach about disabilities to the best I to the best of my knowledge. So I would love to have feedback over um this. And yes, because I have bone kindness, that does it doesn't stop me. I mean, I have a meeting this morning, so that was already planned. I just look as if I'm sicker than I normally would be, but um oh, I'm hanging in it, I'm hanging in it, and on Thursday tomorrow I actually get to go out surprise to go get Botox. So we'll see what um we'll see what the Botox does. Now, um they use Botox for several different reasons. As you guys know, you guys all know about cosmetically and they use it. I come to find out. Um they also use it for migraines, but they've done studies in CP all the way all the way around the planet with CP and spastic cerebral spec spastic ataxia, cyberpalpsy, it's a tongue twister, which is what I have. Um they have done research studies, and what basically is best a taxia, sample palsy is, is I have high muscle tone, meaning my muscles get really, really tight and really, really tight. Like my hip flexes, it's like dealing with a rubber band that don't give. So um that's my new way of explaining it to people. And people that know about me and know me really well don't care. They don't care, they just don't care. They want to see me happy and healthy, and yet um, yet it's so hard because um the my leg went into contracture due to a taxi, spastic sample palsy. So it just so please listen to a mind over her heart and it will be out Tuesdays and Thursdays with guest episodes on real coming out on um Sundays. So my mind over her heart will be produced by myself and my editor who um is Monk Ronick. He's a villainic media out of um South Carolina, and I met him through podcasters morning chat. That's how I met Monk Ronick, and I didn't um realize until he because he does um podcasters morning chat and um I am still a member of that group, so I didn't realize he edited podcasts. I also know a podcast editor, Steve Stewart, who is also phenomenal, but I think I'm gonna use I know I'm gonna use Monk's services just because um I need to support him. He's he's supported me actually. All the podcasters have supported me. It's quite funny when I go to podcasting conferences, which I will do again, um I make a joke, find a woman in the wheel wheelchair, and they people um people go when it's truly you, you have stable palsy, and it's truly you, and believe it or not, uh people don't believe that I have cerebral palsy because until they see me, they don't put two and two together. I mean, I have been in this podcasting space on and off for over 15 years, and then it's I talk about cerebral palsy every single day, so practically now. So it's um interesting that people still don't believe that I have cerebral palsy, and it's interesting that people um really get a shock when I say I will be at XYZ podcasting conference, and people get a shock of the lifetime that I truly use a wheelchair and I truly um do have cerebral palsy. They um they can understand the wheelchair plant, but they still can't understand the cerebulcy plant, which I find funny because I speak about it every single day practically now. So please listen to uh mind of a heart. I'll be updating everything, and we're now officially on the pod page, yay, which means one simple pod um website and then podcast website, and then it has all the players on it, it has all the um it has all the stuff to follow along, and it all already captures all the algorithms and the feeds and stuff, and the reason why I did it is because one of my heroes in the podcasting space. I have a hero in the book space, he'll in the podcasting space, and one of my male heels in the podcasting space. He's been doing podcasting for 20 plus years. Um his name is Dave Jackson, and he used he used to work with At Lipson, which is one of the topc podcasting hosts in the um country. They've been around since 2004. And then um, and then he left lipson and got a job at Podpage, so I went over to support him. I'm no longer on Lipson myself. Um I wish that Lipson would L Y B S Y N liberated Syndication would drop their prices a little bit. That's why I'm no longer on the Lipson. But I'm on Blueberry and um Busbelt. Buzzbelt is set it and forget it website, which is perfectly fine for winning heart, but um for uh mind of a her heart, I formerly a gentle voice, formerly she is her, which is this will be the last podcast name change. So again, it will be coming out Tuesdays and Thursdays with guest episodes coming out on Sundays, and so um the reason why I went to Blueberry, this wasn't on false move in the least, um, this was because Blueberry lost its CEO and so they get they got me as a um user now because I've followed what the Blueberry what they've done. I've been I've been following the podcast space for years. So um I will put all links in the show notes on Blueberry. I will also do a cross cross feed post on a winning heart as well with all links in the show notes, and then I will let you guys go. And again, um school of podcasting is great and hosted by the phenomenal phenomenal Dave Jackson. I will put Pod Page in, I will put Blueberry in, and then I will also um be updating everything so you guys can have it all. So I will let you guys go and have a great day, and I am over and out, and I might have to use Safoi from now out to get to stream yard, but we'll figure out what I did. It's user, it's not stream yard air this morning, it's user uh user air with sponkitis. That's what it was. Um and so I'll let you guys go and I'll catch you guys later, and I'll let you guys know how Botox was on a winning heart. So be sure to tune in for that. And my brain is about to turn into mush. So before I lose my voice and before I have my brain turned into mush, I'm gonna let you guys go. Bye, you guys.
