Pop-Tarts and Podcasts: A Health Warning No One Asked For
Ever noticed how the media loves to paint everything in black and white? Literally. Our spirited discussion dives into the Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese rivalry that's dominating sports headlines, questioning whether this is truly about race or simply two competitive athletes who don't particularly like each other. We examine RG3's controversial comments and ask the deeper question: why can't we just let these talented women be competitors without forcing a racial narrative?
Between fits of laughter and inside jokes that perfectly demonstrate our friendship, we share our current reading journeys and audiobook adventures. From A'ja Wilson's "Dear Black Girls" to Dawn Staley's "Uncommon Favor," we're absorbing wisdom from successful Black women who've blazed trails in their respective fields. There's something powerful about hearing these stories directly from the women who lived them—and we're soaking it all in.
We celebrate a major milestone: our podcast being featured in not one but TWO magazines (Heat Seekers and Black Page Turners) just five months into our podcasting journey! This leads to a more personal health check-in, where we get real about monitoring blood sugar levels and how outward appearances don't always reflect our internal health metrics. And yes, we confirm what we all suspected—Pop-Tarts are indeed just "sugar formed in a square," delicious as they may be.
But the funny thing is.
Speaker 2:Welcome to another episode Of Hope, please. I said it. Welcome to another episode of Hope.
Speaker 1:Please, I said it what I said.
Speaker 2:Go to that lady too.
Speaker 1:She said what she said. Say what I said.
Speaker 2:No.
Speaker 1:Wait till you go back and look at your face. Oh yeah, oh yeah, because you hit the button. You hit the button, shalonda. I had to realize. Oh, it's about business right now. Good evening, y'all. I hope that y'all have had A wonderful day, or having a wonderful day If you're listening to this podcast. How's everybody doing tonight? Ray, y'all have had a wonderful day, or having a wonderful day if you're listening to this podcast. How's everybody doing tonight? Ray, how are you? I am pretty good, shemona. I think you're good because you over there cracking up, you having a good time over there. Alright, now, don't get choked up. Don't get choked up. Don't get choked up don't get choked up.
Speaker 2:That was hilarious. Thank you for that, ashley oh, you're welcome.
Speaker 1:You know, if I can put a smile on somebody's face, then I've done my job for the day done your job for the day that was a good one, huh, sharona?
Speaker 1:Okay, well, on tonight's episode we are. We're just going to have girl talk tonight, just about whatever, A little bit of whatever. You know. Of course, you know we try to focus in on our true subject matter, but every now and then we just kind of got to let our hair down a little bit. Yeah, so, on our true subject matter, but you know, every now and then we just kind of gotta let our hair down a little bit, yeah. So so I'm gonna I'm gonna start with ray, what, what's on your heart tonight? Talk about that we could bring to the pod. Just as you know, women and girl talk us, you know, kind of getting together and laughing as we always do in our private time. Man, I take up the whole time. How long do we have we?
Speaker 1:ain't got that long now. So just this week there's been several topics that I have been in discussion with other people with, and I would love to get y'all information, get y'all intake on a couple of the topics. How do you want me to start the one that sticks out in my mind? I feel like that's a trick question. I'm a little nervous about saying yes, but I'm going to go with whatever's on your mind first, but just remember, we on a podcast now. Well, the one that sticks out in my mind is the Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese RG3 and Ryan Clark conversation. That's what sticks out in my mind and I know, Sharona, that you. Well, this is one she should keep up with, because it is some drama behind it Controversy.
Speaker 1:It's some controversy behind it.
Speaker 2:I think I just got so busy this week that I must have missed that.
Speaker 1:Okay, okay. Well, the only thing that really sticks out in my mind Is just, I wanted to give my opinion On RG3. Okay, go for it. And my opinion on him. Kaitlyn Clark and Angel Reese they are good Basketball players. I'm not a big fan Of either one of them, so Care less really. To be honest, they are. The play was a Basket, a basketball move. Both of them, you know, agreed that it was a basketball move. Blah, blah, blah. Uh, so that's the end of that conversation for me. Uh, I think what really sticks out in my mind is the fact of the matter is we already know that there's racial tension in this in in america, right, right, and it's being brought forth in every aspect of everything. So now we at women's basketball and we got two top players and one's black and one's white, and rg3 is playing right into the racial divide to me. Um, just my opinion.
Speaker 1:He, you know his statement was angel reese hates caitlyn clark, hates Caitlin Clark, right, that's basically in the gist of what he said. If he had a say on the basketball court or something related to basketball. But he left it so open, right? And if you're reading it and when I read it I was like dude. He's saying this because you know the black white situation and maybe I'm wrong, um, but so she? So when he said that to me it stuck like dude, you just playing into what everybody else won't you know you want to be. I mean, and I'm sure there's other black people that'd be like, yeah, angel Reese, this, that and the other, like, again, I could care less about either one of the girls. I'm not a fan. I like Aaliyah Boston, but that's just my opinion, but I think that's and to me I'm going to say it, he's an Uncle Tom mom Going to say it.
Speaker 2:She said, what she said, I mean okay, but what do you?
Speaker 1:I guess my question is with the holistic picture, what do you feel about what Ryan Clark said about his wife though I don't think he said anything inappropriate and maybe that's because I just said he was an Uncle Tom. I know that RG3 is saying, basically, you took it too far when you brought my wife, but if you watch his videos he's got his wife in the background cheering him on. So therefore it's a conversation between you and your wife, and your wife is agreeing with everything you say. Now rg3 is in the past, has always said, you know, oh, look at this white milk, I love white milk, you know, and stuff like that, you know, basically saying stuff to how he loves, uh, his white wife skin right, and I've heard other guys that's black who said I just love the pink toes and I'm like okay, and sometimes they get a little graphic with their conversation. But I've heard other black men say that you know about their wives or girlfriends or who they, you know, date, prefer to date. Um, so I just don't think.
Speaker 1:I think that I think that, uh, rg3, yeah, she probably has been around his family. It's his family, why wouldn't she be, you know? I mean, I mean, but I don't think Ryan Clark said anything that was really off-putting, because he probably don't have any body of color in his ear saying this is the struggle that black women face. But I have heard RG3 stand up in situations and especially with Shador in that that situation and really spoke from, I guess, a black person's perspective. So that's why I say I don't know if it's so much, and I'll let you finish your thoughts, but I don't know if it's so much, just that I mean he married who he married, ok, but I also think that when you bring somebody's family into it wife be it, kids be it, whatever, like you don't think they're going to take offense to it.
Speaker 2:I just feel like you kind of brought that to the table.
Speaker 1:Now I'm not saying RG3's comments were necessarily the best comments, but I will proceed with my basketball commentary in a moment about that and the dynamics of that, but I'll let you finish your thought on that. Yeah, I definitely agree that whenever you bring somebody's family in it it is more personal. But it was a personal conversation. Yeah, I think Ryan Clark was on a podcast like us, right right, one of their podcasts, right. He's basically just like we saying what we're saying, right, I think Ryan Clark. I think he was just saying what he said. You know what I mean? I don't. I I understand him taking it personal, but to me you deflecting on the actual comment too. Why didn't you back? Why ain't you saying, hey, basketball, move this, that and the other? Why are you instantly bashing? And I ain't going to say bashing, maybe bash is not the word, but it's kind of like you're going with the narrative, you're going with the people saying the same thing.
Speaker 1:You got a public platform here we are Me, you and Siobhan are just. We got a public platform. Here we are me, you and Siobhan are just. We got a public platform too. We got to be mad for what we say, but in the same sense, we said what we said, because I just called him Uncle Tom and I'm saying bad things. Okay, I didn't come here to fight, though. I came here to help his character If I don't meet his wife.
Speaker 1:I ain't really she could walk up on me tomorrow and I'll be welcome to Dallas Jam. Okay, I'm going to share my thoughts on this dynamic right.
Speaker 1:So, while the media and everybody hypes up that narrative on racial lines and women's basketball, and especially between caitlin and between angel, um, I also, as, as a basketball player, at once upon a time, because I don't play, no more, don't retire my shoes, no, oh, but, but what, what's what? Once upon a time. But at the same time, okay, um, I will say this too right, because I get what you're saying because there is a narrative out there about racial divides, right, and about women's basketball. I can understand that rg3's comments did not really help the situation, but on the flip side of that, as a competitor, I'm saying to myself, as a woman athlete, I'm saying these are two competitors that just may not like each other and that's okay. Why I'm like, hey, to this day, isaiah Thomas and Michael Jordan don't like each other.
Speaker 1:To this day, isaiah Thomas and Michael Jordan don't like each other. To this day. I ain't going to say they hate each other, but if it appeared back in the day, they had disdain for each other and still don't talk. I think it's also just so much. As much as it is about the racial means that the media wants to play up, it's just two competitive basketball players that really feel like they're better than each other. I mean, that's really what it comes down to. The play was a basketball move. Now it looks bad. It looks like you're doing a little extra, and thus she got the response because of the extra right, right.
Speaker 2:Right and.
Speaker 1:I'm like. So what I see is you know, I don't like the media playing into the racial divide as much as I do is two women just competing in basketball and they may not like each other and they may feel like they're better than one another, and that's OK because they're in a they're in a field where they're supposed to be competing, where they're supposed to be competing Now and, with that being said honestly, the dynamics of them competing with each other and or possibly disliking each other and or hating each other if that is the case, right really allows everybody to be making money. If you really want to think about it. Everybody capitalizes.
Speaker 1:Even so much as R3, even so much as Ron Clark right and I don't just like you WNBA please.
Speaker 1:At the end of the day, y'all making money off the controversy. Now it don't take away from either one of their skills or whatever. And they both have gotten to the point where, look, they say what they say in their press conferences and they move forward. But I also look at the same thing. I don't know if RG3 may be right to your point. Maybe he is, as you put it, uncle Tom, maybe he is. But at the same time, I'm not going to say that he hasn't spoke out about things as it relates to athletes, and especially Black athletes, because he has. And I think that that's the other half of the story, not so much specifically to these two women, but I look at it as like look, they are trying to play into the race game. You can't allow them to do that.
Speaker 1:At the end of the day, it's two women that ball out. Caitlyn can ball. Now I ain't gonna say I'm a her biggie fan either, but but I'm not an angel reese fan either. But she can ball, but I'm not an Angel Reese fan either. So Angel Reese can ball. They have very different skill levels, depending on what you're talking about. Right, they play two different positions. They do, they do, but it's going to always be that rivalry because it started in college and now that really should be the storyline of the rival between the two of them. Right, and they talk about it, right, everybody in school. You had your rival school. I mean, it's not a cop, right? They just might not like each other as two women athletes, and that's like it is what it is. I think it probably did put. You know, it makes it look bad because RG3 said that. You know, hey, reese just don't like Caitlyn. But I think what it is is they both do some dirty stuff and they don't like each other for it. Because when you really watch them play, caitlyn does some dirty stuff now, but Angel does too. They both can be dirty, but that's a part of competing in a game.
Speaker 1:What's her name? What's her name? She just recently, last year she played and I was talking to one of one of my other friends and I mentioned, we mentioned her in this conversation and I was like, boy, she could take some shots. She was on the. Actually, you know, she was on the Olympic team as well. Oh, did she play for UConn? Maybe she just recently. She's not playing this year. She came on, she came. I think she's coming out. I think she retired this year. Yeah, she played for UConn. You talking about Tarazi? Yes, yes, yes, yes. Well, she played for UConn when she was in college. But yeah, tarazi, she took some shots too. You know, she was kind of rough, I mean, but in women's basketball they all do. You just don't catch them all on camera. There you go. It just so happened. The camera was always on Angel and Taylor and I'm being real, the media is looking for that, because it was already rivaled in college, I mean.
Speaker 1:But, like I said, michael and Isaiah still don't like each other. Granted, those are two black men, but I'm just saying they don't like each other to this day. I mean, ain't nobody talking about that? They were two black men too. They were two black men, but I'm just saying so. I look at it as that and when you think about it, I don't know right off right now that I can think of two women in basketball that had this level of Rivalry that you see right now Between them two. It'd be funny. If they like best friends Outside of basketball, they just can't show it on public Right. Everybody start losing money then, best friends outside of basketball.
Speaker 2:They just can't show it on public.
Speaker 1:Right, everybody starts losing money then Right, I'm just playing, I'm just saying, siobhan, any thoughts on the whole commentary? I know you don't really care. That was a good headline because that was a real headline this last week. That thing was playing hard and it's been trickled over to the men, but I think Ryan is always going to to that point. Ryan is always going to defend Black women and I'm not saying anything against that right, being a Black woman myself. Okay, shavonna, sorry, they said that Ryan does have a child that's by a white woman. Now, I don't know how true that is. I'm going to need you to research that before you put that out there to the people. You're going to put that out there to the people. We need to clarify if that's a true statement. I don't know. I'm going to look at it now. Y'all go ahead. Do you have a topic?
Speaker 2:Do I have a topic?
Speaker 1:I know you got one.
Speaker 2:You got one.
Speaker 1:I'm sure.
Speaker 2:A topic that I want to talk about.
Speaker 1:Yeah, because I got a whole list right here what topic you always want to talk about. I'm surprised you ain't got nothing for it. My book, you're right. What book you reading? What we talking about tonight, what you got.
Speaker 2:Actually, I've been listening to some audio books. Okay, to some audio books. Okay, right before our podcast, I was on a chat with our Aspire book group and we were reading the Pride of Other Streets. Unfortunately, I have not finished that book, but I did finish three audio books this week, really Okay. If that was on audio I would have finished it.
Speaker 1:Okay, your, that one was on audio, I would have finished it Okay.
Speaker 2:Your girl been tired and I been going to bed. Going to bed, what you been going to?
Speaker 1:bed.
Speaker 2:Mm-hmm, I been going to bed. I'm trying to find, because it was one I wanted. I don't know, Actually, it might be one you might be interested in too, but I wanted Ray to read. So one Ray had already read 90 Days to Love Ray Casablanca.
Speaker 1:I did.
Speaker 2:Now that you Could Do Damage by Kacey Mills. Y'all know we did Innocent Incident by Kacey Mills, but she has another one called you Could Do Damage. And if I would have known it was the second one before I read the first one, I might would have waited, and it did have a clip hanger, but it was very, very good. But, ray, I want you to listen to Mega man by Mel Duke.
Speaker 1:That was very good Mega man by Mel Duke. Tell me this other book you've seen that I might like. What was the other book you Could Do?
Speaker 2:Damage.
Speaker 1:You Could Do Damage Okay.
Speaker 2:Maybe, not I mean maybe not Ashley.
Speaker 1:Oh, maybe not. Okay, well, let's scratch that from my list. I mean, maybe not Ashley, oh, maybe not Okay.
Speaker 2:Well, let's scratch that from my list.
Speaker 1:Let me double check on that, okay, okay, well, just FYI, brian Clark does not look like he have a white baby. That was see that. Look how they trying to put the man out there. That's what I'm saying. You can't be putting all right. You can't go with fake news. You can't go with fake news. No fake news. Oh no, he says he did. Ryan Click says his daughter is a reflection of him and he has no shame. So he do have a mix baby. So now what? Sorry, side note from the book. So now, so now, what do you think about that statement Like I mean, what was the actual statement?
Speaker 1:His statement. Okay, it was about RG3.
Speaker 1:His statement was basically he don't have His overall is saying he don't have anybody. That is saying he don't have anybody that is of color in his ear. He has a pretty much a white wife and that that's what he's defending. He's not defending, he's not trying to defend anybody black. That's basically what it is, but I'm gonna find it. They send it to you. Well, two parts to that Granted, he is married to his white wife RG3 is, but his mom is still a black woman. It's true, and I think that statement also could play into that, but I don't know. Okay, I don't know. I don't know, but that was the statement.
Speaker 1:Shobhan, in a nutshell, that is kind of what he was basically saying. You're making statements to intensify that Angel Reese hates Caitlyn, basically as a young black woman against a white woman that's playing professional basketball. You're playing into that narrative based on what Ray's saying. You're playing into that narrative basically because your person of defense that you would be defending would be your wife, who happens to be a white woman as opposed to a black woman. You don't have a black woman in your life where you can see how those comments would affect Angel Reese as a black woman in professional basketball. I think that's the point that Ryan Clark was trying to present, and he used his wife as to say well, you don't got no black woman in your life basically to understand why your comments would be derogatory, essentially against Angel, when you say that Angel hates Caitlyn. That was basically what it came down to. Well, the funny thing about that that, though, is while you were talking about your book shawna, I actually was listening to some audiobooks I did well because I listened to two last week.
Speaker 1:Um, I actually listened to dear black girls, which how ironic are we talking about this and that was by asia wilson, right, um, and it really talks about the dynamics of her in basketball. Um, you know her upbringing her family and um, also her playing in south carolina and how you would think, because they've won championships and all of that, that don wouldn't have to go through some of the stuff she goes through, but she still deals with things being a Black woman coach in the South, even though they've done all these things to bring the program up in women's basketball, winning titles, the type of coach she has been. So, yeah, so that was. But Dear Black Girls was a really good book. Listen to it. It was, you know, a short, tusha woman.
Speaker 1:Black Girls was a really good book. Listen to it. It was, you know, short, tusha woman. It was a short. It was a short, audible book. Asia Wilson, wnba player for the Aces, the Las Vegas Aces. It was a really good book. It was a very, very good book. And then I turned around and listened to Master of Me by Kiki Palmer.
Speaker 2:Did you say what I said? You go there girl.
Speaker 1:Yeah so I think I feel, you know, I think I needed some a different variety of, I needed something with different speed of books, and so I was like, yeah, let me go listen to this. So the book I'm books. And so I was like, yeah, let me go listen to this. So the book I'm reading this week I started today is Uncommon Favor by Dawn Staley. I just felt like I needed to hear from these, as you, ray, we talking about Black women that are doing their thing in their respective areas and it's about their life and the tidbits of of uh, wisdom that they can pour back into. You know others and, of course, black women, right? So I bet asia's book was really good. Kiki's book was really good. It was very, it was different. Kiki's book was different, um, I think, because I felt like different parts of kiki's book, like yo, you would you be in my, uh, you being my life coach, whatever, like this, because there's exercises.
Speaker 1:So listening to the audio book is some exercises along the way, but those are some really good books. I mean, I think about you know, finding your purpose and being who you, who you know, who God has called you to be, that type of thing. So I'll let y'all know when I finish with Don's book, because I'm excited about that. I I'll let y'all know when I finish with Don's book because I'm excited about that. I actually got that book when it released y'all. It released this week. I had that thing on the shelf ready to go, but it's called Uncommon Favorite and so far I haven't got far into the Audible book, but so far it's pretty good and it really lets you know about her upbringing and stuff.
Speaker 1:So I've got some good, you know, or somebody was reading it. No, she's reading it, actually actually all three books. They're reading their own books, asia's reading her book, kiki palmer's reading her book and um don is don is reading her book. Yeah, is there voices? So which which I? I will say I enjoy it right, because I don't think anybody can tell it like they can tell it. I got a credit and I think I'm going to go get Don's, go get Don's, go get Don's with your credit. So far, I like it. I ain't too far into it, but I like it so far.
Speaker 2:What'd you say, shavonna? I was saying I have a credit too, and I was thinking I might get that one too, because I didn't know what I was going to get.
Speaker 1:Okay, well, think about it. I like that, but I got some other books on my list. I think I'm going to go get Whoopies. Whoopie got a book out there. That one was really good. I know I got to take it one step at a time. I take breaks. I take breaks At the dawns. I'll see how I'm feeling and then I'll decide what's next. But I feel like I need to mix it up this year.
Speaker 2:What's your reading challenge looking like, since you done knocked out two books?
Speaker 1:Oh, I'm back on track. I'm back on track. I still feel like I got forever to go y'all. I do feel like that, though, but I'm on track because I done read them two books. I got back on track with my reading challenge for this year.
Speaker 2:It told me to press on and read 16 books to get back up.
Speaker 1:Ooh Well you about to go on vacation? Are you going to do all the reading you want to do? No, she ain't. I know she going to be playing bingo.
Speaker 2:Right, I was looking at my books and I'm like, which book am I going to take with me? Which books am I going to download? And I was like, girl, you probably ain't going to read none of their books. I will read at night, when I get into bed, because that relaxes me and brings me down. So I will read, but will I finish one? That is going to be the question.
Speaker 1:Oh, it actually says I got to read one book to get back on track. So I think whenever the date hit, I must have just yeah, so I gotta finish Dawn's book and then I'll be Back on track. But I still feel like I got forever to go. But We'll see.
Speaker 2:I do want to ask, ray, what was your thoughts on 90 Days of Love.
Speaker 1:Uh, I don't remember. Refresher.
Speaker 2:Uh, I didn't want Refresher, I didn't want to have to do a refresher, oh, okay.
Speaker 1:So I just want to refresh on some of the.
Speaker 2:She was a traveler and her friend wanted her to go to this exclusive resort because they kind of favored each other.
Speaker 1:Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, okay, good, you remember. Now you got it, oh yeah, I remember now yeah, yeah, yeah, I got it, I'm good. So I let me go back. Let me see, you gave it a four, I gave it a four. Okay, good, I think I remember that I liked it and I gave it a four. So you know, that means I liked it. I'm going to try to find it Because, god dog, it's been a while ago.
Speaker 2:Like it first came out, yeah.
Speaker 1:So I wish I remember my thoughts on this. I remember that I wanted the truth to come out, because I feel like and this goes, this goes into a segue that I was going to discuss tonight I feel like, although I'm not like her at all, she was able to just go from country to country, city to city and just lay it down, if you will. I'm not that woman, but I feel like a single woman. In this day and age, you have to protect yourself, right, and I understand what she was looking for, and that's one of the reasons why I liked it. But I wish he wouldn't have had to live a false life the whole time.
Speaker 1:And the reason why I say that is because you know. For her, her, because the only reason why she met Dude was because it was under false pretense.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 1:And they had to Go through a whole lot just to get back to when they originally fell For each other.
Speaker 2:But what do you Think about the twist of that?
Speaker 1:Um, but what do you think about the twist of that? Um, why her and her friend favored? Yeah, now that was wild. That was wild, really wild, and it was a big twist. I think ashley would like, I think ash would have liked. I think, ashley, you would have liked that book.
Speaker 2:I don't agree.
Speaker 1:Really, oh, maybe because of the extra activities.
Speaker 2:Yes.
Speaker 1:It was a lot of extra activities, oh, but I thought it was good.
Speaker 2:Well, that's all I had about that, yeah, cause when I was like, oh, I'm already listening to this.
Speaker 1:And then when I went to market, I was like, oh, she's already read it yeah which I need to write my review but I listened to a book by author this week, kennedy Ryan. She is very, very. She is in the headlines if week. She's got like a bestseller. To just drop what was it last week or this week, shawana uh tuesday tuesday?
Speaker 1:yeah, it's already, yeah, so let me say that I think I've seen that and was like why do I feel like I know her? But I probably do, because shawana talks to us about authors and books and all that and I was like I know that name, I know this name. I think I know this lady. I kept saying that, but I was like you know, leave it to me, I don't really know her. I probably have just been around Siobhan and crew that reads and Ray that reads, enough that I've heard her name, enough to know her name. But I did see the promo. I mean, she's everywhere right now.
Speaker 2:Yes, and that's the third book in the series.
Speaker 1:So the third book is hitting hard huh, Everybody was waiting on this one.
Speaker 2:Oh so, Ray you already ready this week?
Speaker 1:you already ready? No, I'm in a totally different series. Oh, okay, Okay. Yeah, but it popped up in my news feed, I said, well, why do I feel like I know this lady? But now it makes sense because y'all know the lady.
Speaker 2:She actually lives in Raleigh.
Speaker 1:Okay, so we have had this Okay. So I'm like like, okay, I don't think I've met her, but I just I know that we've talked about her books. I should say that way. So, ray, what did you think about her book, the series that you did read? So and I think me and shawana had talked about it earlier in the week, and yeah, I think we did, because I told her I have been. It's a 400 page book, you should have got the audio book.
Speaker 1:I should have got the audio, but I got the second book on audio. So you read the first book, the 400 something page. Well, we know how I do. All right, okay, stop asking questions. All right, I got it. So I got it 400 pages, right, and it's a good book. I think I gave it four, three or four, what the while?
Speaker 2:that you was talking. It must have.
Speaker 1:Yeah, but she was talking junk bullshit. Javonna, she was talking junk bullshit. I wasn't talking junk, it's just that this particular book was triggering. Oh, okay, I understand that.
Speaker 2:A lot of people state that her books are trauma and trigger.
Speaker 1:And I might. This is like the second or third book that I've read of hers, but it's been so long since I read her I'm not sure if I remember her other books being as triggering as this book was. And not to say that I went through anything that the main character went through. Um, it's just that when I get ready to go to bed, a lot of times if I see, if I'm watching a show and there's a car accident in this show and somebody passes away like 9-1-1 or something like that, and I go to bed and go to sleep, I end up dreaming about that car accident and maybe I'm in the car accident or somebody I know is in the car accident.
Speaker 1:So with this book, a lot of the stuff and a lot of the stuff that was going on, it kept populating in my head and I kept saying, dang, you know, something's got to turn around, something's got to turn around, and I'm trying to be patient for it to turn around. But it's sad, right, but it was a good book. I am looking forward to going on to the second book. Okay, but I really want to get to the third book.
Speaker 2:I read the third book.
Speaker 1:Okay.
Speaker 2:I read them out of order. I haven't read any of them. I read the third book, oh, okay.
Speaker 1:So yeah, and the book is called Long Shot.
Speaker 2:Yeah, it's a basketball series. Is he a basketball in the first one? I know he plays basketball in the third one.
Speaker 1:Yeah, it's a basketball player in the first one and a sports agent in the third one. Yeah, it's a basketball player in the first one and a sports agent in the second one, gotcha Okay. So I think actually you might like it, but I don't know if it's going to be true or not. I just hate for people to do people wrong. Yeah, I'm going to have to research it. Yeah, I'll research it, but I mean, I do know that she's but her newest book, I do know. Like I'm saying it popped up on some stuff.
Speaker 2:I was like, oh it looked like she was on the news or something, or I might have been watching the news. She was on cbs news.
Speaker 1:She was oh yeah, I was like, or maybe I was watching the news and I was like why do I know her?
Speaker 2:Gayle King. She was with Gayle King also. Oh yeah, so yeah.
Speaker 1:I've seen it also. For sure, for sure, yeah, okay Well.
Speaker 2:So, yep, it's a hoop series. Book one is Long Shot, book two is Block Shot series. So book one is long shot, book two is block shot and book three is hook shot.
Speaker 1:Definitely basketball oriented Titles. Definitely basketball oriented Titles. Okay, what else so?
Speaker 2:The ultimate destination Any.
Speaker 1:Hot topics that Other hot topics we want to discuss.
Speaker 2:Gotcha, which one you want to talk Like? We mean like our names. Discuss Gotcha, which one you want on top Like um, we mean like our names.
Speaker 1:Yeah.
Speaker 2:You can put it across the top. Talk about the podcast. The podcast yeah, yeah, robert is, yeah, doing something about the podcast. The podcast yeah, robert is, yeah, doing something about the podcast. So did you see us in the magazine the Heat Seekers?
Speaker 1:No, is that the email that you sent? That's the email that.
Speaker 2:I was supposed to be looking for, correct? Oh, that's a different magazine.
Speaker 1:I have no clue, then, siobhan, I posted it in our group.
Speaker 2:No On Facebook yeah, so have no clue then, siobhan I posted it in our group, no, on Facebook. Yeah, so we are featured. I'm going to say featured. We're in the magazine Heat Seekers and we're in the magazine Black Page Turners, so we're in two magazines.
Speaker 1:Well, look at that, that's a good. Thank you to both. Yeah, look at that, both magazines. Thank you to both magazines.
Speaker 2:We appreciate you, thank you for the love that you know to put our podcast in there. All right, I need to go and I know Heat Seekers. You can buy the physical magazine. I'm not for sure on Black Page Turners I'm going to find that one out but I'm definitely going to buy both of those, you know, to add to my book collection.
Speaker 1:Yeah, you know that's amazing. We definitely, you know, to add to my book collection. Yeah, you know that's amazing?
Speaker 2:we definitely. You know, first year of our podcast and we're in two magazines. I mean we ain't even within the first year. We're only what? Five months in five months in.
Speaker 1:Well, that goes to show how good the lord is right. But no, I definitely, uh, shout out to Heat Seekers and Black Page Turner for featuring us in your magazines, because you definitely didn't have to, but it's greatly appreciated. Check us out, people who are listening to us on the pod. Check us out in those two magazines.
Speaker 2:In our interviews in the magazines.
Speaker 1:Our interviews in the magazines right. Well yeah, we five months in. That's a blessing in itself. Yeah, yeah, yeah, who knew, who knew, who knew we were podcasters, really Right? I mean, that was not put down Talking about what we love Books, TV, God.
Speaker 2:Yeah, that's true. Talking about what we love.
Speaker 1:That is true, that's true. Talking about what we love that is true, that's true, well look, shout out to our sponsors that don't know they sponsored you that part. Shout out to the sponsors Y'all on the way, I just want y'all to know. Y'all on the way to sponsor our podcast. We got sponsors. They on the way, and if you do want to sponsor us, please do Holler at us you know, holler at us.
Speaker 2:You know, I said hold please. I said what I said at gmailcom. Don't, don't holler at us.
Speaker 1:Yeah go to my Facebook account.
Speaker 2:Sorry guys, we're having a good time.
Speaker 1:But no, sorry guys, we're having a good time. You want to sponsor us? We're putting that out there. You want to sponsor us, please, no, no, okay, I guess. On a more serious note, you know all of us are, you know women and health is very important. So you know, how are you guys doing from a health perspective? It could be mental, emotional, physical.
Speaker 2:You want the truth.
Speaker 1:I mean we about the truth. Hold please, I said what I said.
Speaker 2:It is. I'm going to say I'm fine, but my numbers ain't going to say I'm fine.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I think mentally I can say that I'm fine, but my numbers are not reflecting what I feel. So that's that you can feel good and look good on the outside, but don't mean you're really doing good when it comes down to really getting into numbers. We're talking about blood sugar and other things.
Speaker 1:Right, it could be other numbers as it relates to health. My dad's best friend had diabetes and he would always you know, when I was younger, he would be like diabetes is a silent killer. Diabetes is a silent killer. And I would say yeah, and then I would always say what about blood pressure?
Speaker 1:you know, that's just my opinion blood pressure but he would always root on diabetes, right, right. And now I'm older. I ain't gonna say how old I am. I think the last podcast we did some gray hairs or something to that effect. But now that I'm older I am watching the diabetic numbers and my numbers. Overall numbers are good. Lately, last few weeks or two weeks ago, uh, the doctor changed my medication and I'm been um higher numbers right, and I was telling uh, shawana, I think, ain't you actually? You know, I have the meter, uh, that you put in your arm. I have dexcon. I absolutely love it because it's like the best invention they could have made. You know you can get old, right, mm-hmm, just randomly checking your fingerprint, you know you don't really realize that, hey, it's up, but it's not bad. So you're just going on about your day, but this little Dexcon little thing in your home gives you a number.
Speaker 1:It's on you in a heartbeat and I absolutely love it. So I know and this is just for me that Pop-Tarts is not a good thing for me. Pop-tarts will take me. It ain't nothing but sugar. It's nothing here's sugar I'm being fair, say what.
Speaker 2:What did you say, sharona? Here's sugar formed in a square, a square.
Speaker 1:Tastes good and they got some Pop-Tart ice cream sandwiches.
Speaker 2:They got Pop-Tart ice cream sandwiches. Yeah, I put a picture in the group. You ain't seen it. I've probably seen it. No, rice crispy, I know the rice crispy did you find them sorry? Yeah, yeah, the picture they would. They were right there together in walmart um, but they got that.
Speaker 1:They got, and you know me being the sweet lover that I am, I really really do want to try the brown sugar, which is, I think Siobhan you asked what was your favorite flavor Brown sugar, the flavor that took you out, that took your sugar. I probably won't, because if I buy the box, well, I got kids. I don't have physical kids personally, but, for those who don't know me, but I got, I make the kids eat it. I ain't going to make them, they'll just be like I eat it. But you have enough kids that come to the house, enough family kids in the family that they'll eat the.
Speaker 1:Yeah, but you need to do it on a. You know that the weekend is coming and the kids going to be over. I need to do it on a wheel. You know that the weekend is coming and the kids gonna be over, because, I don't know, I should not be encouraging you to try it, so take that back, but I feel like I want to try, so that's why I'm like well, you know, but you, you actually do have kids. You could give it to, uh, when it's all said and done, but they shouldn't have all the sugar either, though, really when we think about it. Um, I know what's so funny, because you over there cracking up too.
Speaker 2:Ray Tasha, what do I call you uh?
Speaker 1:I don't know Ray Tisha yeah, what, what happened?
Speaker 2:I don't know Ray Tisha, yeah, what happened? So in Robert's phone. I put Ray Tisha in Robert's phone so whenever she texts or calls him, it comes up Ray Tisha. So, being the loving, doubting husband that he is, has made me a podcast shirt to wear on our vacation and it says Ray Tisha. Is that what?
Speaker 1:Not Ray Tisha, but that's what you put in his phone, Shavonna.
Speaker 2:That's what he went with.
Speaker 1:So, now.
Speaker 2:Ray's name ain't going to be right for the shirt that's true. I mean it's funny because and he's holding up the shirt, showing me this pretty shirt with our logo and our names, and I'm looking like why is there an I in her name?
Speaker 1:Ray Tisha, and our names and.
Speaker 2:I'm looking like why is there an?
Speaker 1:I in her name. Let me show you how much of friends y'all are, because Ray instantly guessed exactly what you called her.
Speaker 2:In her phone. It says Shavonna B, and I'm like B Shavonna.
Speaker 1:Her name is Otis. Really, you want to tell the whole world that that's what?
Speaker 2:my name is in your phone. Uh, that's what you're gonna do I know that ain't nobody checking for you, otis.
Speaker 1:Yeah so that's a running inside joke for those of you all listening as to why they call me otis, but that's a whole other story. One of my favorite movies, by the way even though we're not talking about that, is the Temptations, probably one of my probably the favorite movie, but I got some other ones on the list. But anyways, all right. So, ray, you go ahead. People are calling you Ray Tisha, ray Tisha, I like it. The R is there, is it the what? The R is there, but it's not either.
Speaker 2:R-A-Y-T-I-S-H-A. Is that how I do it? Is that what it says? R-a-y-t-i-s-h-a. Is that how I do it? Is that what it?
Speaker 1:says R-A-Y-T-I-S-H-A.
Speaker 2:Yep, yep. Well, I changed your name, I changed the day Ashley was born, so hey.
Speaker 1:Yeah, this is true. You do it every year. It's hilarious too. One year I'm going to get it right. I know One year you are going to get it right. I know that you, one year you are gonna get it right, but it's a running joke. Uh, it's a running joke, well let me say this when we're talking about hell.
Speaker 1:I just want to tell you all, all you listeners, you know I come with some type of wisdom, right. I guess I just can't help it. You know, laughter is good for the soul. It is. It is good for the soul. You know. I'm sure there's some research behind it. I can't give you all those facts, but Well, I can.
Speaker 2:Really you can.
Speaker 1:Okay, okay, go for it. Then Go for it. Go for it. They say that people who live longer are people who and this is a statistic people who have something to believe in, meaning a religion or something to that effect. It's something that they believe in strongly. Right that means they need something to work towards right, strongly right, that means they need something to work towards right. And then other people that live longer is people who have a sense of humor, and I find that funny because, as what I don't know In the randomest thing Like, is that what she's still laughing?
Speaker 2:about. That was 10 minutes ago. That ain't what I'm laughing about.
Speaker 1:Oh, okay, that was 10 minutes ago now.
Speaker 2:I just started back laughing because what she just said, which I will not say on this podcast, okay, okay.
Speaker 1:Okay, don't say it. What about?
Speaker 2:She gonna ask me. Anyway, I know she is.
Speaker 1:Finish your thought, Ray. Finish your thought. We're not talking to.
Speaker 2:Siobhan, you got a what?
Speaker 1:I got distracted, okay, so the research says that people who believe in a higher power and, I guess, laugh a lot Uh-huh and have a good sense of humor, a good sense of humor they live longer, and only because they don't allow the world's struggle to weigh them down. That's good and it makes sense. Think about it, man. If you believe in God, you believe. I ain't going to say now all the time, but for the most part, for the most part, for the most part, go ahead, I can't. So for all you listeners, this is sometimes. I mean, of course we be on the Public platform, but this is sometimes inside of the jokes and laughter that we have Right Our phone calls and or text messages. So there's a lot of inside joking going on Right now, guys, and you just guys, don't know what's going on?
Speaker 1:I'm sorry, I'm sorry, right, I'm sorry and more likely you will not know yeah we can't explain.
Speaker 1:Can't explain it? Yeah, we can't explain it. Well, we could, but yeah, not for the poker. Oh, but yeah, but yeah, not for the poker, uh, but yeah. So people live longer, you know, because they have something to believe in, they have something to laugh at, they have something to you know rely on and something to uh fall back on, if you will their sense of humor, their religion, their uh goal for fostering kids, their goals for, I don't know, cleaning up the planet. You know those people, tree huggers, people who just got a passion for something. Yeah, you got a passion for something and you have something to look like to work towards. So there's that. Well, I appreciate you. You know you came through with the facts, what you came through with the facts. You came through with the facts you said she had the facts.
Speaker 1:I ain't mad, right, you had the facts for the people. You said what you know. How come I know that? How do you know that let's go there? I listen to random stuff and I be like that is so interesting. How do you know that let's go there? I listen to random stuff and I'll be like that is so interesting. And I think a lot of times that when I talk to y'all I'll be like man. This is a weird fact. I don't think anybody is sitting here looking. If they heard me talk, I'd be like man. She be doing random stuff. She's weird. Well, I mean, I think it's a testament of never stop learning, right, like, just never stop. It doesn't learn about something that you would never be interested in, right you?
Speaker 1:know it could be one random fact, but it's something new. You didn't know, like you know. But that's I mean, I think that's, you know, important. I think it's important to laugh a lot. I do. I mean, listen, life is going to life right, like things are gonna happen, but what can you laugh and smile about? Can you laugh at yourself, can you laugh at your friends, your family, because we all do some things that are funny. Actually, when we started this podcast tonight, I did something that was funny. We pick on each other. We got jokes. The funny thing is, when you talked about your age, I was going to say you as old as BET. Oh look, it's time to go alright.
Speaker 2:Thank y'all for joining us on Hope.
Speaker 1:I know where this is going, yeah you said it on another pod and I was like, oh, that was a good joke at that time, but I chose not to say it. And then you said it. You said it on another pod and I was like, ooh, that was a good joke at that time, but I chose not to say it. And then you brought it up again. I said yeah, we're going to circle back to that. Oh my god, I know what you're talking about.
Speaker 2:I'm as old as you. No okay, thank y'all for Joining us tonight on another episode of Hold Please. On another episode of Ho please. I swear Woo what I said. Woo, oh, my gosh. Thank you for joining us.
