Thank you. Welcome to Homeschool Horizons. I'm Yvette, your host. Today I have some great, great news. If you haven't heard by now, I'm here to tell you that we killed AB 84. Woo-hoo! We did it! Apparently, when the bill came out of suspension, it didn't even hit the Senate floor for a vote because everyone knew that there were 20 senators that had announced they would vote no, so they basically didn't bother to vote. They killed the bill. Believe me, I still don't fully understand how it all works, but when I saw and heard the Freedom Angels update on the bill being killed and they were congratulating all of us, I praised God Almighty. Now, there is talk about the California Teachers Association trying to make it what's called a two-year bill. So that means they would want to bring it back next year. However, there is another bill, so many bills floating around, there's another bill that will be voted on soon called SB414. This bill has enough votes to pass and that will make it unlikely that the California Teachers Association would bring back AB84 next year. The Freedom Angels said the California Teachers Association are so mad. They're just being bullies. They're just like, well, we're going to do this. We're going to do that, whatever. But they know that they don't have the vote. No matter what they do, even if they come back next year, the vote is no. So it's highly unlikely they're going to do that. But you know, the bottom line is that they're never going to stop trying to get rid of charters and homeschooling in general. But we are in the clear for this whole school year, and God willing, the following school year too, before they start coming for us again. Oh man, you guys, I am so happy to know that we have advocates like the Freedom Angels who keep me and so many of you updated on what is happening in our legislature. I would have never gotten involved in this had it not been for them, to be honest. They just explain it in such an easy way to understand, and they're so passionate about it, that I couldn't help but pay attention. And I'm just so grateful for them. And I just want, if they're ever going to listen to this, I want to tell you guys, thank you, thank you, thank you. I would like to also give a special shout out and thanks to six Democratic senators who publicly said that they would vote no on AB 84. Because, okay, apparently, senators can announce publicly how they're going to vote, but they also have the option to not announce it. But like, there were four other senators Democratic senators that were going to vote no as well, but they didn't want to make it public. They told the Freedom Angels, but they didn't want to announce it. And so the Freedom Angels respected their privacy, and so they only gave us the name of the six who were public about it. And I want to publicly thank those six. So here goes. Here's my shout out. If you guys, senators, are ever listening, I want Oh my gosh, and please forgive me if I mispronounce your names. Thank you all for publicly saying that you were going to vote no on AB 84. I also want to thank our Republican Senators. I will post the names of all of the senators and their phone numbers so that you can also contact them and thank them too. So while we all received this great news about AB84, which happened on September 5th, which was on Friday, the whole week before that, my 10-year-old was sick with a cold. He was pretty miserable. So I didn't have him do all of his schoolwork. So you know how I was going to update you guys on all of the workbooks and everything I was going to be doing? We didn't do any of that. The only thing we did was something called extra math. It's something my husband told me about. It's a website, extramath.org, where kids can go and get help with memorizing their math facts. My son has been having the hardest time memorizing his multiplications. I've tried flashcards. I've tried MathUC. I've tried so many other things, but it hasn't worked. So my husband, who is an elementary public school teacher, told me about how another teacher told him about extra math. They go on this website. They only do it for 10 minutes every day. So my 10-year-old started doing that as well as my 13-year-old. Now, my 13-year-old loved his classes. I don't know if you remember, but he started a new school, new learning center this past week. But he was only able to go one day because he got sick too. However, I am so happy that he is excited about returning this week, and he's even gotten himself all caught up with the assigned homework. I mean, he got a lot of help from me and from his dad. But you know what? Still, he did it. He wanted to do it. He wanted to get it done. And that truly shows his level of excitement for attending this school. And I'm really happy about that. Well, I'm going to wrap this up for today and I will post all of the senators' names and numbers as well as the website for Extra Math in case you haven't heard of it. Thank you all for listening and congratulations to all of us who use a charter in California. It just goes to show that we can make a difference. Through prayer and diligent perseverance, we have been victorious in this fight. So go do a little celebration. Tell everybody, have yourselves a wonderful week. Talk to you soon.
