A lonely Mississippi road. A vanished church. A mother’s grief that won’t stay buried. We dive into the legend of the Three-Legged Lady of Nash Road in Columbus, where folklore, fear, and late-night dares collide. You’ll hear how one core story splinters into wild variations—hit-and-run near a church, a serial killer’s calling card, a post–Civil War vendetta—and why every version ends with a chase no one forgets. The details morph from tale to tale, but the ritual stays the same: lights off, three honks, three knocks, then a sprint to the end of the road with something pounding on your roof.
We break down what makes this myth stick: the mother at the center, a symbol of grief turned relentless; the way specific addresses along Nash Road give the legend a map; and the eerie power of threes that turns a ghost story into a participatory rite. Reports include shadowy figures in the treeline, handprints on windows, and unexplained dents that keep mechanics busy and drivers nervous. Along the way, we compare church-fire and cult versions, examine how small towns spin ruins into ritual, and weigh the skeptic’s list—bad lighting, fast imaginations, creaking roofs—against the irresistible pull of a midnight test.
If you’ve heard a different version from Columbus or anywhere in Lowndes County, we want it. Drop a comment on YouTube, email holdmysweetteapodcast@gmail.com, and tell us whether you’d brave Nash Road with your headlights off. If this story gave you chills or a laugh, tap follow, share it with a friend who loves folklore, and leave a quick review so more curious folks can find us. Stay safe out there—and maybe keep those lights on.

Heading To Columbus, Mississippi
SPEAKER_02Yes. So what are we doing today?
SPEAKER_00Today, we are going to Mississippi. The SIP. Yeah, so I fully expect some of our Mississippi listeners to give us some comments. Yes, please do. On this episode when it releases Thursday. We are going to take a little visit to Nash Road in Columbus, Mississippi. So we can see if we see the three-legged lady.
SPEAKER_02What? The three-legged lady? What's with all these roads and these women? I'm telling you.
Introducing The Three-Legged Lady
Version One: Hit-And-Run And A Missing Body
SPEAKER_00Witches on roads, three-legged ladies on roads. As with everything else that I seem to find that's more random and I've never heard of myself. Uh-huh. Um, there are so many different versions of these roads. Of why this three-legged lady is haunting Nash Road. There's most of the stories about what will happen if you visit Nash Road and the area in which it happens most often on that street remain pretty consistent. It's just the story of why she has three legs. Well, what's the story, Morning Glory? That's the thing. There's so many different ones. So we're gonna traips on through all of them. Let's do it. With all the legs, all three legs. All three legs. I was like, three-legged race down Nash Road. Right. Let's do it. Let's do it. Should probably think she can run faster than you. I'm sure. So Columbus, Mississippi is in Lowndes County. And like I said before, Nash Road is where we're going. And it is believed that a three-legged woman haunts this street due to a horrific tragedy that was suffered by her. Now you ask, what is this tragedy? Right, what is it? Well, in one version, a young girl was out on Nash Road, and there's apparently a church that used to be on said road, and she was near this church when she gets hit by a car, which kills her instantly. Her mother hears the scream, the blood-curdling scream, and she rushes to the scene. When she gets there, there is no daughter, there is no car, only a bloody leg. What? Yeah. So mom picks up leg and searches for her daughter. She's like, I've got your leg, where are you? Right. Another version of said story is that the daughter was actually just out walking and she comes upon a serial killer.
SPEAKER_02Dun dun dun.
Version Two: Serial Killer And The Grieving Mother
SPEAKER_00And serial killer's like, check out this opportunity right here. Isolated road, young girl by herself. Right. It's like a gift. So it's said that he took that opportunity. Crime of opportunity. Yeah, kills the girl and dismembers her. Didn't chop off her leg. Well, he dismembered her, but in this story, he leaves with just her head. Oh. But the mother still only finds a leg. Weird. And she literally accused anyone who ever drove on that street of being the killer and would try to chase them down for revenge.
SPEAKER_02I thought you were gonna say chase them down with the leg.
SPEAKER_00Well, yes, with the leg. Really? Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Oh my god.
SPEAKER_00Needless to say, in both of those variations, this woman goes mad.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And depending on where you hear this story, she has either sewed the leg onto her own body. What the hell? Or is wandering the road with the leg in her hand. Looking for her daughter's killer.
SPEAKER_02Oh, this took a turn that I didn't think was gonna take. I thought maybe it was the daughter, like, you know, running around with like an extra leg, but it's mommy.
Post–Civil War Tale And Vengeful Spouse
SPEAKER_00No, it's mommy. Now that was a plot twist. Yeah. Yet another version. Oh, okay. I've got another one. So this one actually takes place some years post-Civil War. And it said, a farmer that's living on Nash Road finds out that his wife is having an affair with a soldier. The farmer then hunts down this man and then has him tied to horses and you know drawn in quarters. Drawn and quartered, yeah. Yes. Down Nash Road. Pieces of the soldier's body are torn by the gravel and rocks that he's dragged on as well. So it's not just that they got ripped off by the horses running. And when the farmer's wife finds out, she goes crazy and kills her husband. And she finds the soldier's leg and again sews it on her own body and proceeds to commit suicide.
SPEAKER_02Oh my god. All I could think of is like uh Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas, like sewing her back on. Yes.
SPEAKER_00She's sewing legs to her.
SPEAKER_02She's sewing like where would you attach said leg?
Church, Fire, And Cult Variations
SPEAKER_00Now they also still have another version where it's the opposite way around where they're saying like the husband is the cheater and the woman kills him, yeah, chopping him into pieces, and then sews the husband's leg to her own body. There's a lot of legs going on here. Yeah. But she keeps sewing it to herself. Whoever's leg it is, her daughter's her husband's her soldier lover. So you have this rotten corpse of a leg sewn to you. Yeah. You. So that's where her third leg is. It's like somebody else's leg that's sewn to her body. Wow. So no, yeah, like I said, no matter what, she's sewing a leg to her body. There's only one version where she's carrying this leg going ha in her hand. So the church on Nash Road, they say that when they found out about the crime in the version where the husband's the cheater that they encourage the woman to turn herself in, and if she doesn't, the church threatens to do it for her. And it said that in response, the woman waited until they church was in session on Sunday, and she locked everyone in and burned the church to the ground.
SPEAKER_02Oh, okay. Now she was getting revenge on everybody. Like you're not gonna turn me in and my extra leg.
SPEAKER_00Right. Every single version, however, does end with a story that warns motorists and just us, everyday curious individuals, to that if you travel down Nash Road and attempt to find the ghost of the three-legged lady, she's gonna find you first. And she can run faster because she has three legs. Right. And there have been several people who have driven down Nash Road that say they've seen a shadow, a shadowy figure of a woman holding a leg and staring at them from the woods.
SPEAKER_02It's always the woods. It's always the woods.
SPEAKER_00Some even claim that they've been chased by a woman and find unexplained handprints on their car. Not leg prints. Not footprints, not footprints, not three footprints, just a handprint. Now there is another story floating around that the church wasn't like the church you think it is, and it was like actually like a cult. Oh my goodness, let's throw the cults in there. That get this girl and do satanic rituals to her and dismember her body, and mom finds the legs still. And that's why she burned the church, and that's why she burned the church. I mean, the church is knocked down, it's not there anymore, obviously. But again, right. An additional version.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I I definitely want to hear from our Mississippi listeners if you've heard a variation on this story, because I'm intrigued. Right.
How To Summon Her On Nash Road
SPEAKER_00Now it's like, how many different ones can we come up with here? Right. Because they're all very um interesting.
SPEAKER_02Somebody's uncle's grandma's cousin has heard some story about this.
SPEAKER_00About the three-legged lady, yes. So they say that if you decide you want to go down Nash Road and summon the three-legged lady, you should turn off your headlights and honk your horn three times. I was gonna say it has to be three. It has to be three. And she will make an appearance. In response to your honks, she will knock on the roof of your car three times. Oh, okay. And then when you freak out and you start racing down towards the end of the road, she will race with you, slamming her body against your car the whole way down the street.
SPEAKER_02Oh my god, let's go do it. I'm here for it.
Reported Signs: Chases, Dents, Handprints
SPEAKER_00They say that the most paranormal activity takes place between 2661 and 4548 Nash Road. There's, you know, lore that she'll just run beside your car and try to run you off the road. Dents in cars after going down. I mean, if she's slamming her body against your car, I would imagine so. And then, as I said, the handprints themselves. Crazy. I feel like so many, and I've avoided these as much as I could. So many little paranormal haunted stuff. Yeah. Like is attached to a building. And I saw the church, and I was like, oh, maybe I don't want to do the church. Yeah. But now it's like buildings and roads. Buildings and roads, absolutely. It's always something like that. So crazy ladies on roads with extra appendages because they why do you want to sew somebody's leg onto your body?
SPEAKER_02It's a rotten, decaying like leg. Why what no? No, thank you.
SPEAKER_00You yeah. Sew your own parts back on, cool. Sew someone else's parts on you. Not a fan. No, especially when you don't actually need it. Like, you know, one of your legs is missing. You think you can get a transplanted leg? Cool. It's just like what's the point? That's my thing. But why?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, why would you how are you gonna wear pants? Right. She's wearing dresses, that's it. Because there's no way she could wear pants. And then you got this weird. I mean, where'd she sew it on at? Right. That's what I'm saying. Where did she attach it? Inner thigh, outer, like on her butt?
SPEAKER_00Does she look like my daughter in her uh pregnancy jumpsuit?
SPEAKER_02Yeah. That was hilarious.
SPEAKER_00Oh no, you have a penis.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. She uh she tried on a onesie and it was a little a little large in the crotch area. So it kind of made her look like she had a penis.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it was hilarious, actually. We had a good laugh about it yesterday. And then she fluffed it around and she goes, and this makes it look worse. And then it looked like a big gross saggy batch. It was a third leg. So yeah, be careful of them jumpsuits, ladies. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01They might make you look like the three-legged lady. Maybe could be. Don't don't get one with a large crop chariot.
SPEAKER_00But anyway, I digress. You know who would be hilarious with a third leg? Who? Patty Salzetto. Right.
SPEAKER_02Imagine the dance moves. Oh my god. She already bust them out now. She's with an extra leg. She would be unstompable.
Shoutouts, Theme Music, And Requests
SPEAKER_00She'd stomp you first. Oh yeah. Absolutely. But she made our amazing theme music. Yep. Which we appreciate tremendously. Yep. And as we said before, please message us. Especially if you've heard a version. Yes. That I didn't mention.
SPEAKER_02And we like I said in the beginning.
SPEAKER_00Because I'm sure there's more.
SPEAKER_02I know we have a lot of Mississippi listeners. So we have a time. Let's hear from you. All of you. Every single one of y'all. Yep. Tell us.
SPEAKER_00It's like 10 seconds. Yeah. Yeah. So uh you can do that on social media. You can send us an email. Hold my sweet teapodcast at gmail.com that I have to get used to saying that.
SPEAKER_02Yes, I know. Go on our YouTube because when we post it on there, you can just write a comment right underneath it while you're listening to it. Yeah. That's the easy place. Yeah. And we would love some more YouTube interaction. Yes. We're we're growing. We have 81 subscribers. We're a grower, not a shower. Definitely. We're getting up there.
SPEAKER_00Make YouTube our third list.
Calls For Listener Stories And Subscribes
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_00Like, come on. Push us up to 100. Come on. Right. We just need 19 more people to subscribe. So share it with your friends and be like, go subscribe. Just do it. Listen to it. Even if you don't listen to it, subscribe. Yeah. So I'm also working on making a non-purchasable t-shirt so that we can do a little contest. Yeah. Maybe we can get some shares and listenership up. So that'll be something that will be coming soon.
SPEAKER_02And I apologize for all the sniffles. I just did it and realized I did it. But the building we're in just makes my my nasalness go like go into overdrive. We're all suffering and it's not seasonal. Yeah. And I don't mean to sniffle. I've been trying not to, and I just did like 10 seconds ago. So sorry.
SPEAKER_00I was like, don't sniffle while we're talking. I mean sniffle in between so I can cut it out.
Contest Tease, Sniffles, And Closing
SPEAKER_02Right, right, right. And it's like right while you were talking, I was like, I caught myself. So sorry for that one. But you know, it's one of those involuntary things that you just don't think about. So I'm trying to think about it.
SPEAKER_00One of the other involuntary things you should think about is staying safe out there.
SPEAKER_02Absolutely, because hold my sweet tea is as always a drunken bee production. And like Pearl said, stay safe out there. Stay away from three legged women. And just because we're dipping doesn't mean you can't keep sipping.
