Recognizing a Cry for Help: The Signs You Shouldn’t Ignore

So let’s talk about the signs you must never ignore —
 because your child may not say “I need help” out loud,
 but their behavior will whisper it to you.

  1. Withdrawal from family and friends
     – Your once-chatty child is now silent.
     – They cancel plans, avoid eye contact, and prefer isolation.
  2. Changes in eating or sleeping patterns
     – Skipping meals? Sleeping too much? Restless nights?
     These are red flags we often excuse.
  3. Sudden drop in performance
     – Whether it’s school or hobbies — if they’ve lost interest or motivation, something deeper might be going on.
  4. Irritability or extreme mood swings
     – Anger, frustration, or sudden tears? These are emotional releases of inner pain.
  5. Talking negatively about themselves
     – “I’m useless.” “No one likes me.” “I mess everything up.”
     These statements are not attention-seeking.
    They’re pain-revealing.
  6. Physical complaints with no clear cause
     – Headaches, stomachaches, fatigue — often tied to emotional stress.
  7. Subtle cries like ‘I’m tired of everything’ or ‘I don’t care anymore’
     – Listen closely. These aren’t random remarks. They’re coded distress.
