Destroying Emotional Chaos by Living in Spiritual Order

Anger has a way of pretending it’s strength while quietly turning into a wrecking ball. When we displace pain onto the people closest to us, we don’t just damage relationships, we train our minds to live on edge. I talk through why unresolved betrayal, trauma, disappointment, and chronic stress can harden into revenge, depression, isolation, and spiritual vulnerability, and why we still have a choice about what we feed.

From there, I ground the conversation in Christian faith and spiritual warfare: God does not leave believers to fight with raw willpower. Scripture calls faith a shield and reminds us that the battle is in the mind. I unpack what it means to be indwelt by the Holy Spirit, how the Spirit comforts, teaches, and guides, and why that inner presence is meant to produce real transformation. We also spend time in Proverbs 3 as a practical blueprint for trust, humility, wise decisions, and peace in a chaotic world.

I break down the fruit of the Spirit from Galatians 5, especially self-control, gentleness, and peace, and connect that to the warning in Proverbs 25:28 about living like a city without walls. Welcome And The Cost Of Anger

others is a serious problem. I think we all know that. Especially anger. The displacement of anger can especially cause irreparable damage to relationships and often kill. Sadly, women and children by far are the most common victims of displaced anger and emotions every day. And actually, the perpetrators themselves are unknowingly victims too. They are victims of their own anger and rage boiling inside, destroying themselves day by day. We humans have a habit of taking stuff out on other people, totally oblivious to the fact that our own nasty habits and foul behavior don't make anything better at all. Peace is better than war, my friends, and a smile is better than a growl. If we practice it, we'll see. But the longer we linger in darkness, the more we entertain thoughts of revenge, the more we go around growling and snarling, the more we look back on our disappointments and the what ifs and the should ifs, we are opening the door of Pandora's box. Yes, Pandora's box. There's a plethora of evil just waiting to take hold of ourselves. Now of course traumatic events happen in life and catastrophes will occur. We will and have natural responses to all of them. That's okay. It's only normal and expected. But I am speaking about never overcoming. I am speaking about those that wallow in the muck and the mire of it many years after the events have occurred. Being betrayed is not fun. Being betrayed by someone can actually turn into hate. It can also turn into the desire for revenge. Being traumatized can turn into PSD, phobias, immobilization, and isolation. And sadness can turn into chronic depression, suicidal ideations, and suicide itself. The point I want to make this week is that we have options in life. We have to choose. We can choose to remain positive or we can choose to live in the negative. We can choose to worry, or we can choose to activate our faith. We can feed depression or fight to live in the joy, rest, and peace of the Lord. Life is beautiful. And yes, life is a battle all at once. But the believer is called to fight the good fight of faith and to war a good warfare till the very end. Or shall I say, till we transition to the other side? No matter what we face in life, we

Choosing Faith Over Negative Loops

are to face it with faith. How? Because we have a knowing, and that is because we have God in us. And if we know him, we know that he has made us promises, that we are blessed, and that we don't have to do anything in our own might or our own strength. Ephesians chapter 6, verse 16 says, In all circumstances, take up the shield of faith with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one. This means that the believer is naturally equipped with every means to overcome every life circumstance with grace, power, and the strength of God. God has given us the weapons of warfare, faith being one of them, to overcome everything that attacks our mind, everything that comes at us. We know that life is a struggle. We know that problems will arise, but God with us is more powerful than believing we are without. And sadly, many believers do not apply the weapons of their warfare to the circumstances of life and lack the relationship or the knowing that the Holy Spirit dwells within to help us maintain the sense of self in the storms that come. How can I say this, you might ask? Well, when any person accepts Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, without being a biblical scholar, because you don't have to be one to be saved, and without being perfect, because you can't be perfect, and without even fully comprehending the totality of God, because no one can truly comprehend God because he is God, the believer is indwelt by the Holy Spirit. Yes, despite not knowing, despite not being a scholar, despite not being perfect, despite not understanding God in his totality, we are still indwelt by the Holy Spirit. This is the

The Holy Spirit Dwells Within

sign of a true believer. The Holy Spirit takes up habitation within the person who genuinely and sincerely believes that Jesus Christ is God incarnate, who died on the cross and rose again, and died for the remission of everyone's sin, redeeming everyone's soul who chooses to accept him as their Savior. Romans chapter 8 verse 9 says, You, however, are not in the flesh but in the spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you, anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to Him. So anyone who believes in Jesus Christ and who has received Him has no choice because the Holy Spirit automatically dwells within. This means once truly saved, always saved, and forever a child of God, forever an heir of the kingdom, forever part of the body of Christ, with a guaranteed eternity in God's presence, with a guaranteed presence of the Holy Spirit within you while you're in this earthly realm. The Holy Spirit's presence in the life of a believer is beyond consequential. It is fact He is God in you, permanently indwelling believers and sealing every believer until the day of redemption. And this can be read in Ephesians chapter 1 and chapters 4. It is God's ministry in us that enables us to overcome all the darkness in the world and every wile of the enemy. So just as importantly, the Holy Spirit not only dwells in us, but it dwells in us to sanctify us, to transform us, to enable us, to enable the believer into becoming a God-fearing, peace-filled, self-controlled person bearing the fruit of the Holy Spirit, making the person capable of operating in spiritual giftings. Now I'm not going to give a lesson on those gifts, but I will list the fruit of the Spirit because bearing fruit is essential in our life with Christ, and it's evidence that we are indeed submitted to Christ. It is evidence that we are growing in Christ. It is evidence that God is with us because we are then able to be reflections of Christ's nature. We are able to become conduits of His love and power on earth. Hence, Christians are called to yield to the Holy Spirit and not rely on fleshly understanding or mere mortal strength. We can't win anything like that. But we are to allow godly wisdom to lead, to guide, to instruct, and to allow God to be the strength when weakness comes. I'm going to read Proverbs chapter 3. It's complete and it's something we should all read on a regular basis and meditate on because it gives us a guide on how to live and where to put our minds. It says, My son, forget not my law, but let thine heart keep my commandments. For a length of days and long life and peace shall they add to thee. Let not mercy and truth forsake you, bind them about your neck, and write them upon the tablets of your heart. So you shall find favor and good understanding in the sight of God and men. So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine. My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord, neither be weary of his correction. For whom the Lord loves he corrects, even as a father, the son in whom he delights. Happy is the man that finds wisdom and the man that gets understanding, for the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain better than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies, and all the things that can be desired are not to be compared to her. Length of days is in her right hand, and in her left hand riches and honor. Strive not with the man without cause if he's done nothing to you. Envy not your oppressor, and choose none of his ways. For the fraud is an abomination to the Lord, but its secret is with the righteous. The curse of the Lord is in the house of the wicked, but he blesses the habitation of the just. Surely he scorns the scorners, but he gives grace to the lowly. The wise will indeed hear it glory, but shame shall be the promotion of fools. This proverb is one to continually meditate on and profess. Understanding its meaning is a great start to a successful Christian life. God always equips, and in this proverb, he gives you step by step on how to think and how to move and how to live and how to treat others. So you might ask, but how can anybody accomplish this in this crazy, chaotic, violent world without losing it? How can anyone live when justice is not served, when marginalization and racism runs rampant and social classes still marginalize and oppress? We can only do so by allowing God into our hearts and being steadfast in our faith. We have to invite God into every area of our lives and give Him every circumstance and situation that we're going through for the best outcome. We try to do too much on our own. We try to do too much in our own might, in our own knowledge, and in our mortal wisdom. When God's strength is more than ours, God's power is more powerful than ours, God's knowledge and wisdom are beyond our knowledge and wisdom. He has given us Himself, the Holy Spirit, to dwell within us, to teach us and to comfort. Scripture presents the Holy Spirit as a divine person. The Holy Spirit is God. He is one of the persons of the triune God Head, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit has his own mind and he intercedes on our behalf. He helps us with decision making. He gives us comfort when we need comfort in our most distressful of times, and counsel when we need guidance and strategy. The Holy Spirit gives people specific tasks and giftings. It is by the work of the Holy Spirit in us that we can be renewed, strengthened, enlightened, refreshed, revived, and most importantly, transformed into spiritual beings, not fleshly beings, but spiritually minded people operating above the distractions and attacks and foulness of the world, no longer fleshly, no longer operating in ignorance, no longer operating in emotional extremes like the devil prefers. Yes, the devil loves to take advantage of us when we are weak or afraid or angry. Now I won't even say that we humans often act worse than wild beasts because even the animal kingdom operates within the laws of nature and not in chaos or evil. It is through the work of the Holy Spirit that our character indeed changes for the better. And that change is manifest by evidence of the fruit of the Spirit. The fruit of the Spirit is a term in the Bible in Galatians chapter 5 that describes the attributes of a Christian, the transformation of a Christian into godliness. It is the transformation of a life that has given itself to Christ, that is now being shaped by the Holy Spirit who dwells within. Now, the most common are nine fruits of the Spirit, which are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

Fruit Of The Spirit In Action

The first, love, the highest form of selfless unconditional love, also known as agape love, joy, a deep abiding gladness not dependent on external circumstances, peace, a quiet confidence and tranquility in the midst of chaos, patience, the ability to endure difficult situations and people without retaliating, kindness, compassionate and gentle actions towards others, goodness, referring to moral excellence and integrity expressed in everyday life. It is that ethical, moral, self-control behavior that should be exhibited in everything that we do. Faithfulness, loyalty, trustworthiness, and steadfastness in commitments, gentleness, strength under control, humility and grace when handling conflicts, meaning one is not prone to violent outbursts and excessive anger and unforgiveness, self-control, the power to resist temptation and master one's desires. These traits are naturally cultivated from the inside out, staying connected to God rather than through sheer human willpower or ability. It's impossible when we face spiritual wickedness in high places coming from the enemy of our souls. Proverb 25, verse 28 states, He that has no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down and without walls. What does that mean? This verse is key, and it alludes to the state of a person who has lost control over his own emotions and spirit. It describes a person of extremes who is now broken, a person who has lost control and failed to reel in any extreme emotion and thus becomes vulnerable like a fortress or a fort without a wall. Remember in the days of castles and kingdoms, how many were fortified with impenetrable

Emotional Extremes Create Strongholds

walls to protect the inhabitants against attacks? Once that outer wall was breached by the enemy, an entire kingdom was in danger and vulnerable to conquest. And so is the person who has given their mind over to negative emotions. In essence, that person has now become vulnerable to an attack of the enable of the enemy. That person is now at risk of being conquered by the enemy of their soul. And in religious terms and Christian terms, we call that a stronghold. The word of God says the battle is in the mind. 1 Peter chapter 5 says or commands us really to be sober, be diligent, because the adversary, the devil, is like a roaring lion walking around, crawling around, slithering around, seeking whom he may devour. And how does he do that? Well, he does that by infiltrating our thought life, by whispering evil thoughts to us, by taunting us with things that have happened to us. We may think we are bound we are beyond the grips of the devil because we're saved. We may think that we're beyond the grips of the devil because we live a good life and we're kind to people, but we fail to realize that some of our own proclivities and habits are because we have left the door wide open for the enemy to have influence, just like any strong drink or drug. We might think because we're kind and loving, or because we don't commit egregious crimes like stealing or theft or uh committing violence or battery against someone that we're beyond the grips of the devil. Nope. We are exposed and vulnerable when we feed our wounds, we are exposed and vulnerable when we obsess on our hurts. Knowingly or not, the devil is always waiting to get a hold of us and take advantage of us. He and his minions thrive on destroying our minds and hence our lives. Therefore, 1 Peter chapter 1 in the Bible says, gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. Yes, we are to be sober, we are to pay attention to what's going on in our lives. We are to contemplate where our thoughts lie. We are to be cognizant of what we think about on a daily basis. We are to be aware of where our emotions are and how we're acting, how we're speaking, how we're treating others. Are we letting our pains speak for ourselves? Or are we at peace despite the storms? Are we self-controlled and giving everything to the Lord and not dumping them on other people? Are we allowing the enemy to occupy us by obsessing on all the negative? You see, God has indeed equipped us with the weapons of our warfare to protect our minds from the infestation of the many mental and emotional maladies that take hold of us through life's experiences. Yes, many experiences that are traumatic or emotional, can be open doors for the enemy to infiltrate us. It sounds scary, but it's true. Let this be a warning. 2 Peter chapter 1, verse 3 starts by saying we are to conform our calling and election. It says God's divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who called us to His own glory and excellence, by which He has granted to us His precious and very great promises, so that you may become partakers of His divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. For this very reason, we are to make every effort to supplement our faith with virtue and our virtue with knowledge, and our knowledge with self-control, and our self-control with steadfastness, and our steadfastness with godliness, and our godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if these qualities are ours and are ever increasing, mind you, by the work of the Holy Spirit and our submission to him, then they will keep us from being ineffective or unfruitful, mind you, unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins. Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election. For if you practice these qualities, you will never fall. Read this chapter in 2 Peter over and over again. It confirms that God, his divine power, dwells in us. God has created us with power, love, and a sound mind. And through his unconditional love, he has given us every means that pertain to a prosperous life, to grow in Christ and the knowledge of him. He has made himself known to us. He has given us his word to learn. He has given us relationship. He has given us the indwelling of his Holy Spirit to commune with, toward his excellence. He has granted us promises. And one of those is life everlasting in his presence. He has said that through him we are part of the body of Christ. And through him, we are to operate in the giftings of the Holy Spirit with power. He has given us a means to escape every corruption of this world, every temptation of this world. He has given us an escape. He has made a way for us. And he says we can do it by faith, by trusting in him. It says it is impossible to please him without faith, and it's an impossible task to overcome without faith in God, without a relationship with him. We are to seek wisdom and knowledge through him. And by all of it, we will have self-control. We will be steadfast through every trial and tribulation because we have allowed the Holy Spirit to train us up. We have read his word to understand what God has done for us and what he has given us and the promises he has made to us. And we will know that his love conquers all evil, that his love is unending and unconditional and forever ours to have and to behold. And if we dwell in him and he in us, we can overcome anything because we are always victorious. So we're not to be blind, we are not to be ignorant, because he has given us everything to overcome. The enemy is to be beneath our feet always, for we sit in high places. Now, in saying that, I'm going to make it a little simpler. There's a biblical saying that offering a sacrifice of praise to the Lord does a world of wonder compared to complaining to him about a situation that he is already aware of. Because you know He knows the end from the beginning and the beginning from the end. But yes, I am speaking to every believer, and of course, to anyone who chooses to hear me, because anyone can benefit from this lesson of self-control and love. The Sacrifice Of Praise

is something we don't want to do, right? And praise is giving thanks. So when we don't feel like giving God praise, we give it anyway. When we don't want to, we praise him anyway. When we are too mad to, we praise him. When we feel too weak to, we praise him. When we feel too fearful to, we praise him. When we feel too depressed to, we praise him. Open your mouth and praise him. Let not a rock cry out in your pra in your place. I know I have asked God. Promise me you will never let me keep my mouth closed when I'm going through. And he has fulfilled that promise because I have gone through some stuff. And even when I'm tired, my mouth is open in praise because I know that's where my hope comes from in him. So when you don't know what to do, you praise him. When you're too confused to, you praise him. When you feel too lost to, you praise him. God inhabits the praises of his people, and what he inhabits can only get better. The saying goes, when the praises go up, the blessings come down. There's evidence. Responding to and feeding the negative creates a magnet for the enemy of our soul to infest our thoughts and our being. Yes, science proves it. Even our bodies are impacted by the negative things in life. Our bodies respond to negative thoughts, emotions, and negative mentalities. We get sick from it. We can make our own selves sick. So we must shut the enemy down. We are called to shut the enemy down before the negative thoughts own us, before strongholds take hold of us. Before negative thoughts creep in and create anxiety, depression, rage, and ungodliness in moral character, we are to respond with the word of God and

Take Every Thought Captive

dwell in his presence. We are to fight for our lives. We are to fight the good fight of faith. 2 Corinthians chapter 10 reads, For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge and truth of God and take every ungodly thought, every sinful thought captive until it's obedience in Christ Jesus. A stronghold is when the enemy has taken advantage of us and infests us with the negative, whatever that negative might be. And that's when we feel like we're drowning in our sorrows, when we're drowning in fear, when we're drowning in rage. So how do we do that again? We think on God's promises, we think on his blessings, we meditate on his words, we practice his presence, remember his covenant relationship with us and our destiny being in him. Remember, he is the author and finisher of our lives. He loves us and wants the best for us. Remember that. Keep that in the forefront of your minds. God loves you, and God wants the best for you. Philippians chapter 4, verse 8 reads, Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, and whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, and if there is anything excellent, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. So what is true? Truth is Jesus. He says, I am the way, the truth, and the life. Whatever is honorable, no one can be more honorable than Christ. Whatever is just, we serve a just God. He is justice. Whatever is pure, there is no one purer than the Lord God Almighty. Whatever is lovely, who could be lovelier than the Lord God Almighty who is love? Whatever is commendable, what could be more commendable than one who died for his fellow brother? That even if there be one sinner, he will go to the cross and die for you. If there is anything excellent, what could be more excellent than create than the creator of everything seen and unseen, who has made everything good? And if there is anything worthy of praise, that is the Lord God. And we are to think on him. When we put our minds on his excellence and on his love and on his power, what could there be that could take us down? Nothing. Because we are always victorious in Christ Jesus. Isaiah 26, verse 3 says, He will keep you in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Christ. Yes, the Lord will keep you in perfect peace if your mind is stayed on him. He says, Trust in him. If we trust in him, we will remain in his presence and in his peace. We are to take captive all the bad thoughts, and the holes in our hearts are to be filled with his love and not with hate, not with anger, not with rage, not with forlornness. We are to remind ourselves of his unconditional love. We are to take captive all the negativity by continuing to pursue our destinies in Christ Jesus. That is running the race. It's not how we start, but it's how we finish. We are to take captive everything negative by worshiping the one true God and all his glory. We are to keep our minds on him and not on what has happened to us and not on what we are going through. We're gonna go through it, but we must remember that he will carry us through it. We have to remember his promises and his power. What he starts, he will finish in us. He will never leave us nor forsake us. And he has equipped us. So remember it takes discipline in keeping our mind on Christ. But remember, the Holy Spirit is within each believer to comfort, to teach, to guide, and to intercede. And when the enemy comes in like a flood, the Lord God Almighty does indeed set the standard against him. We need not be tossed to and fro. We need not be vessels of bitterness, fear, or rage. But we should be the one that continues to dwell in his presence and in his peace and learn to rest in him. Then you yes, then you will discover that you can walk on water and not drown.
