From Black History Reflections To Tyra Banks Controversy And Lenten Discipline
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
We open with joy and grief—celebrating Black History Month and remembering Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr., a leader who shaped public life and our own church memories. Then we move straight into a candid reckoning with the America’s Next Top Model documentary. We talk about power, accountability, and how “it was the times” keeps getting used to excuse harm, from blackface shoots to pressured makeovers to on-set boundary violations.
We shift into the choices we control. Our Lenten fast looks simple on paper—no sweets, no fried foods, no bread—but the heart work is deeper: no secular music for some of us, no TV for others, and a commitment to treat 40 days as a reset for attention and gratitude.
Do you order a “medicine ball” at Starbucks or do you say the encyclopedia-length menu name and “small” versus “tall”.
If you’re craving an episode that blends cultural critique, faith practice, and practical life with warmth, humor, and zero corporate-speak....this one’s for you. Warm-Up, Song Snippets, Hellos
SPEAKER_02You need a man with sensitivity. A man like me. Someone who will value you. Someone who will please you. Someone who will treat you right like me, girl. Someone can hold attack.
SPEAKER_04Someone's stable, then you like all things back to everybody. Okay, now first and foremost, welcome to Sis Energy Podcast. But the thing is, that is my song. I just don't understand how you know that song, and you were still in the womb when that song came out.
SPEAKER_02Like, how do you put in the womb? How about jam? Ralphie ate down. Okay.
SPEAKER_04Daddy did. Daddy did.
SPEAKER_02Oh. My song.
SPEAKER_01Okay, already. Yes.
SPEAKER_04Anyway, how are you ladies doing today? Great. How are you? How are you today?
SPEAKER_05Yeah. How are you?
SPEAKER_04Okay, girl. I'm doing great. Well, happy black history month still.
Black History Month And Jesse Jackson
SPEAKER_04We're still in the month of February. Sure are. We're proud to be black. Sure are. And shout out to Shanita again for her calendar. Everybody go grab your calendar. Yes. All things. Shanita C dot com. Y'all go back.
SPEAKER_01Yes, new shipment just came in. Thank y'all for helping me sell out of the first batch. New shipment just came in and are stopped and waiting for your order. Thank y'all.
SPEAKER_04Thank you. Thank you. Thank y'all. And speaking of Black History Month, rest in peace to Jesse Jackson. Yes. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Uh Copast.
SPEAKER_04Co-Past. Which is crazy. Like how you see and you hear about people in the textbooks, and then you see them. Like it wasn't unusual for us to see him at church. Like just to see him on a regular basis, like that's literally. Um, that was uh pretty special. So shout out to some the family and uh our church family because he'll definitely be missed. Um so yeah. But on a different kind of note, I just love how he said, Y'all gonna talk about me at Black History Month, regardless. You know what I mean? Like it it's gonna happen during during Black History Month, and it is so okay.
SPEAKER_01One way or the other. Boom, okay, boom. These folks got a way of getting what they want. Granny changed the time, he made it to Black History Month. You see what I said.
SPEAKER_03Miss Mamas, Miss Ma'am.
SPEAKER_06Please people will call my granny Miss Mamas.
SPEAKER_01Miss Mamas.
SPEAKER_03Miss Mamas.
SPEAKER_04Oh my god, that is hilarious.
SPEAKER_01So, shout out to Reverend Jesse Jackson, senior. We will continue to keep hope alive.
SPEAKER_04But I did
ANTM Documentary Sparks Accountability Talk
SPEAKER_04want to talk about something on changing it from Black History, my Saidi, you may be a little bit too young, but Shanita, you may have seen this. But did y'all see or hear the controversy about the Tyra Banks and the America's Next Top Models?
SPEAKER_02I just finished watching the documentary.
SPEAKER_04But you wasn't, I don't think you were old enough to really watch the show when it was out. That's what I mean by that.
SPEAKER_03I was old enough. I just didn't have cable, but I watched it when you had it on.
SPEAKER_04Okay. What do y'all think about the show? The documentary, all the time.
SPEAKER_06Why are you died already?
SPEAKER_04What do y'all think about the documentary? I didn't watch the documentary, but I seen a lot of I feel like I watched it based on everybody's commentary, so.
SPEAKER_06But what do y'all think?
SPEAKER_03Then there's a sunken cause fallacy of like, well, I've already done this much, so I might as well finish the process. Or if I don't get anything out of this, like it will have all gonna be with it. This is not my commentary on the documentary, but I did pull a clip that I meant to send to y'all and just got distracted. But we gon' I'm gonna show you now. Ugh, here we go. I was so excited to see this. I literally made Joshua rewind it so I could get this for you guys. Yeah. Well, thank you. You're welcome anytime. Unfortunately, you bro, so you can't answer. So I'm gonna assume yes.
SPEAKER_04Something is seriously wrong with you. And we love everything that is wrong with you. Something is seriously wrong with you. No, we cannot. The fact that you caught that, I just I don't understand. I said clock it, so everybody that's listening, the inside joke is that I guess within the last year or two, Shaniita nicknamed Granny Pretty Girl. And how does she say it's?
SPEAKER_03Hey, my pretty girl. Hey pretty girl, my pretty girl, my pretty girl, hashtag Yes it is. Hashtag my pretty girl, hashtag Sunday brunch, hashtag family, hashtag every Thursday Saturday, hashtag positive vibes only, hashtag pretty girl, pretty girl, pretty girl.
SPEAKER_04Yes. Okay, so besides pretty girl, what did you guys think about the documentary and the things that came out from the documentary?
SPEAKER_03Okay, here are my thoughts. I agree with that everybody was saying on social media, this is insane. Tyra, oh my gosh, like this is nuts. And also, yeah, the documentary, like I think Tyra was thinking, oh, this will paint me in a good light, show this, that, and the third. And it absolutely did not. It absolutely did not. It absolutely did not, honey. Neither did it paint the Jays in a good light or Nigel. I was very disappointed with the deflection from all sides and being like, yeah, I understand now, but you have to understand the time. And I didn't think it sounded crazy at the moment. And specifically Nigel, like, for example, with Kenya being like, oh, you know, unfortunately, that is a big part of the industry, and you do have to be able to use your voice to like declare your own bodily autonomy or whatever he said. When she literally stopped the shoot, and then they all looked annoyed at her for stopping the shoe because she was uncomfortable because Shorty was grinding up on her. Like, and then Tyra did apologize for that, but she was like, Boo-boo, I am so sorry. Why would you call her Boo Boo? That's so condescending. So it was a lot going on. It was a lot going on. And I don't think it made them look good the way they thought it would. I Shandy deserved a whole lot more. Like it was, it's a lot. And I will also say that it was so annoying for them to continue to say. It was so annoying for them to continue to adopt to dodge accountability and deflect. But there's some truth to that. Like the early 2000s were a wild time. They were a wild time. And it doesn't make any of the things that happened on the show right. But the very harsh light that is under now, or especially was under in 2020, is um the light we should be shedding on things and we should use it as a case study to be like, let's never do this again. But I don't know.
SPEAKER_04But not her, because she's coming out with another one. That part.
SPEAKER_03You learn that. Like, what are you doing? Why would you do that? And then you, you in a documentary, you're talking about Jay's a very special person. I should call him. Like talking about the way you fired them and stuff. Ms. Jay said you ain't visited like the hospital yet or hadn't visited her like from since the stroke yet or anything like that.
SPEAKER_01But that was the most talked about part that I saw.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, you talking about I send flowers, I intend to visit all this stuff, but you talking about cycle 25. Right.
SPEAKER_05Watching. What you talking about?
SPEAKER_03What are you doing? So anyway, like I have very little, if any, sympathy for Tyra, but I do have a little bit of just like we are bringing a 2026 lens to these like things. Yeah. And that's not being talked about in the discussion quite enough for me because everybody was guilty. It's absolutely stuff we need to be talking about, but everybody was guilty. It was absolutely absurd, but everybody was guilty. Like it's not all on ANC and production and staff. And we're going back to heroin chic right now. Like we're repeating a lot of the same very unhealthy things that like defined the early 2000s right now.
SPEAKER_04So I think that's what a lot of things. Like even with the Diddy, R. Kelly, all of that type of stuff, like the things that they got away with back then. Okay, now we're shining a light on it. The stuff that was like swept under the rug back then. Cause I mean, if you watched America's Next Top Model, there was a lot of questionable things going on. I mean the black face. I mean, her stump in the yard with the Sigmas with a Sigma shirt on. Like, who I don't it just was a the whole the the dental thing with the girl on her teeth, like my gosh.
SPEAKER_03It just was so much very much discussed as it should have been and like heartbreaking.
SPEAKER_04But one thing that I will say that somebody else did point out on social media is like Tyra is exactly who she thinks she is. Like she's not apologetic for anything. She like she did not show any remorse. Like, this is who I am, this is what happened, it's not my fault.
SPEAKER_03Sorry.
SPEAKER_04This is it. Right. Sorry. Not sorry. Right.
SPEAKER_03But like Sam used to say.
SPEAKER_04And watch the next season. Like that just baffled me when I saw that. I was like, wait, what? Yeah, I don't know. And it was go ahead. I just was gonna say, I don't remember when I stopped watching, but I remember just being fed up, like, this, I just can't watch this anymore. But when you think about it, even now, like people are saying this and that about that show, but people still watch reality TV and stuff like that. And it's like, it's the same thing.
SPEAKER_03Absolutely.
SPEAKER_01That part.
SPEAKER_03I'm 110% with you on that because I'm like, we're viewing a lot of specific issues. I think from this is so wrong, and we know that now, but we're still not talking about so much of the crap that's going on under our noses right now. Like we're able to pull out these specific episodes and say, oh, that was blackface. So, so bad. Forced dental work, so, so bad. Oh, literally hoarding and not stopping sexual assault, so so bad. But the conglomerate of ANTM was adored at the time the same way y'all, like everybody
Early 2000s Norms Vs Today’s Lens
SPEAKER_03adores these reality shows right now at the time. And in 20, 15, 20 years, we're gonna be like, oh my gosh, this is the this was the entertainment in 2025, 2026. That's crazy.
SPEAKER_01We already like that. Some of us are already there.
SPEAKER_03Yep.
SPEAKER_04And the way we got there is with the president we have.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Boom, boom.
SPEAKER_03Actually, yeah, let's let's talk straight up about that. Not even just reality TV, but the stuff that we are allowing to happen in reality in real time. Don Lemon got arrested and almost disappeared. And we're just like, so how's your Friday going? Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Like, yeah, it's not even TV for overall. It's like what's actually happening, people are getting disappeared out the streets daily. Minnesota is still crying for help and being systemically blocked from people's algorithms on social media so they get less attention on what's going on there. And we're just going about our life.
SPEAKER_04Which is what the the orange man wanted because that's the whole thing about buying out TikTok so that you could control the algorithms. Um, people just need to wake up and see what's going on.
SPEAKER_03Go to the Palestine, man. It's getting spooky. It's been spooky, actually.
SPEAKER_04It's been spooky.
SPEAKER_01This is literally the staywoke area. It needs to be for real.
SPEAKER_04But I'm gonna go to sleep.
SPEAKER_03Period. I was gonna say the one thing about the ANCM documentary, like whoever the editors were was so funny because Tyra would be like, You need to talk to production about that. I wasn't involved. And the thing at the like the card at the bottom of the screen would say executive producer and creator.
SPEAKER_04Yes, that's who you need to talk to.
SPEAKER_03Right. So Tyra was not apologetic about things, and this was her documentary, and somehow, still, even in her trying to clear her name, or I don't know what her aim was with this, the editing still got her. It got her back many times.
SPEAKER_04It made me think like, did she review this or is this how she wanted to be portrayed? Or what happened?
SPEAKER_03I was like, did they make like different edits and cuts at the last minute?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, she doesn't care, so it probably it doesn't matter to her. She literally does not care.
SPEAKER_04She doesn't. That's why they're gonna do another season. Yeah. Well, I love the memes. That's the thing. When they say, like, uh, Miss J, if I send you this, just know I know you don't care, and I don't care. Like, it just it was so many memes going around that were hilarious. And then it was one with Tyra says, if I send you this, just know I'm not gonna apologize for what I did. Terrible. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Hey, so right. That that should be the poster for that.
SPEAKER_04But speaking of Beyonce, they say we should get our coins together because Act Three is coming out because Beyonce has been active on social media. So they say, get your coins together, okay, Shanita? So get your coins together.
SPEAKER_03I don't have this problem because I don't have coins to get together.
SPEAKER_04But I bet you get them together. Because you be at every one of them concerts no matter what.
SPEAKER_01No, one of y'all better come and get this one over here. Who is at the still in the top 0.1 percentile.
SPEAKER_04That'll be my graduation goal. Wait, so we were we are gonna I'm gonna talk, I'm gonna come back to that about the one percentile. But we're gonna come back to that at the very end. I got something for y'all what she told me. Yeah. But I was gonna um, it was something that came up that me and Shaunita was talking about before we said we were gonna talk about with you. So one of my biggest pet peeves is when somebody tries to correct you and they already know what you're talking about. So the thing we were talking about was when we go to Starbucks and we say, I want a medicine ball, and they say, You want a such and such tea, blah, blah. Like, lady, you know exactly what you're talking about.
SPEAKER_01Quit playing with me.
SPEAKER_04Like, you don't even have to repeat the order back to me. Just say, Oh, okay, what size do you want? Like, don't And do you want peppermint?
SPEAKER_06Like, that's it.
SPEAKER_04Don't tell me what you it's on your menu. You know what a medicine ball is.
SPEAKER_01Because at this point, who even calls it a honey citrus, whatever you be saying?
SPEAKER_04It's 16 words in the teeth. So let's just say medicine ball.
SPEAKER_01And I know I'm not the only one. I'm not even the first one today that has said that. So you already know.
SPEAKER_04That's why you're trying to correct me, because you know everybody calls it a medicine ball. So just go with it.
SPEAKER_03Just go with it. Just go. I think more egregious than the medicine ball is if you say I want a small and they be like a tall.
SPEAKER_04Yes, I hate that too. Give me the smallest you got. Quick play. No, but I will say this, though. One funny thing is I went, it was a Starbucks at my old job within the the hospital.
Culture, Power, And What We Ignore Now
SPEAKER_04And it was a doctor who was coming there to order stuff, and he said, I want a grande. He said he wanted a grande. So they, of course, that's a medium, but he wanted the bigger one. He wanted a large. He said, I wear a grande. No, seriously. And so they were arguing back and forth.
SPEAKER_01When I first started going to Starbucks years ago, I got tripped up with that because you had introduced me or told me something about drink Paris, and I was like, okay, let me go get. I'm like, and that was good, so let me get the big one. So of course that's when we used to get the vanilla frappuccinos. But you had told me about the strawberry one. And so I'm like, oh yeah, I'm going to, I'm going to get this. And so I took Spanish. Let me go get a grande. Not Spanish.
SPEAKER_03Took Spanish?
SPEAKER_02Period.
SPEAKER_01So I go and they give me this. What Benito? This medium cup. I'm like, that's not. They like you said grande. What's the large one? Then they like, that's Binti. Okay. You gotta be a Starbucker. Clearly. And I was not back then. I was just getting started. I'm better now, but I'm better now.
SPEAKER_03One solution is to boycott them in Genocide Fries. They on a divest list.
SPEAKER_04Well, I have not had genocide fries in a long time. But Starbucks. I make my coffee at home a lot of times, but yeah, Starbucks still is gonna get my money every now and then. I hear you. I'm sorry, man.
SPEAKER_03Because yeah, this is not an intentional product placement, but if y'all want to sponsor us, you should. Wink wink. But Rise Coffee, you know how it was everywhere. I just was like, y'all lying. It can't, like, it's not all of that. I cannot speak as an experienced coffee drinker of how it makes me feel in my energy levels, but I did not expect mushroom coffee to slap. It tastes good. I was shocked.
SPEAKER_04Okay, but it's not about the taste, but does it give you energy?
SPEAKER_03I mean, I'm pretty sure I had a decent amount of energy. Joshua has energy. He's he's the coffee. That's what I'm saying. The verdict's still out for me. I did need two scoops. There was one time where I got one scoop and I was still tired. But the two scoops seems to have done what I needed to do last week.
SPEAKER_04Did you crash later like you usually do?
SPEAKER_01I just want to go back. Did you say mushroom coffee? I got lost after that. I didn't hear anything else you said because what?
SPEAKER_04And that's why I say it.
SPEAKER_01Like I I coffee drinker, but even if I was just something about mushrooms and coffee don't mix to me.
SPEAKER_03Which is why I say mushrooms in the coffee. That's a good question.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_04No, for real. Why would you call it mushroom coffee if it's not mushrooms in it? And why is the mushrooms in the coffee? Ground mushroom instead of ground beans.
SPEAKER_01Why are you grounding mushrooms? Like, but when you're coffee. I mean, but for coffee though. Okay.
SPEAKER_04It works. But and see that I never mushrooms, when you eat mushrooms, they don't even give you, they don't give you wings. So why would you say beans? So what's in it? That it's the coffee.
SPEAKER_03Guess it's a specific type of mushroom. I don't know.
SPEAKER_04I'm not
Beyoncé Watch And Concert Budgets
SPEAKER_04sold yet.
SPEAKER_03It wasn't either. I said this is crap. Y'all are lying. I don't understand why we're doing this and pretending it's a thing. Stop trying to make fetch happen. For whatever reason, Joshua bought it and was curious, and I said, You're crazy. You're crazy. Then I sipped it and I didn't want to put it down. Well, I'm glad you tried.
SPEAKER_04Because I've been looking at it, I've been seeing people say it like it's a healthier choice and all this type of stuff, but I don't know.
SPEAKER_03I had no interest in trying it though. Again, because I'm not even a frequent enough coffee drinker to care. I did not care. So I was just like, I don't care about the healthier choice. Like if I want to go to whatever and get my venty, dear man, nah, nah, nah, woo woo woo chocolate, I'ma get that. But that mushroom coffee's left, though. Okay. I'm like, yeah.
SPEAKER_04I was gonna wait till the end to really talk about coffee. We need to start, but speaking of coffee, I have become a coffee drinker. Oh, and I drink my espresso coffee. That's how you know, like, you're beyond. So I make my lattes at home and I have my Nest Cafe powder. My friend, shout out to Tiffany, told me to start doing half decap. So I do that. But now we're on the Linton Fast where we are not supposed to have sweets. Which shout out to Pastor Sharp, because y'all got on his nerves the last few years that we have done the Linton Fast, where he changed it from no sugar to no sweets. Cause y'all clowned him and asked about air fry foods and all. So, anyways, had to put that disclaimer out there. But I was like, okay, so no sugars. I need to find something to put in my coffee because I don't like coffee without sugar. Like, I just I don't want to taste like coffee.
SPEAKER_01That was granny.
SPEAKER_04Right. Trying to rise. So, no. Okay. And
Starbucks Pet Peeves And Ordering Language
SPEAKER_04so my friend Tiffany, I was saying this in our little group chat, and so she brought me some date sugar. So I tried that in the coffee, and it was yeah. But she told me, because I only used two or didn't say eat. She told me, well, the package said do one tablespoon. She said I needed to do at least three. So I'm gonna report back to y'all next week. Week, how it goes.
SPEAKER_03Can't wait for another eat.
SPEAKER_04And then I tried it in my oatmeal with just one tablespoon. And again, it was not enough. So the verdict's still out on that.
SPEAKER_03My chick for oatmeal is maple syrup. It's so good, so delicious, so yummy, and/or fresh fruit. Raspberries, berries, and syrups.
SPEAKER_04Well, I usually do that, but I was just trying to do something different. And I do have maple syrup that's 100% organic and all of that, but I was just trying something different since she had given me that for the coffee.
SPEAKER_03I'm sick of people trying to make dates happen. I'm tired of it. I don't understand it. Agave, however, is a great sugar alternative.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. So I'm gonna, she said that she's coming from the mushroom lover. Yeah, not too much. But she told me five tablespoons, and I was like, well, then that equals sugar. Like, uh, absolutely. Oh, that's not the math for either of you. Not even teaspoons, gee. Well, one tablespoon has three grams of sugar, but it's natural sugar from the dates. So that's not I don't know.
SPEAKER_03I'm just saying dates are big. I don't even eat dates, so I know that's what I'm saying, but I'm saying it's not that's that it does not equal sugar. Okay.
SPEAKER_04It's like it's not bad. All right. Well, how are you guys doing on the Linton Fast?
SPEAKER_01Um doing good. Um that first and set first and second day are always a struggle for me. And then after that, I try to balance it out. So yeah, it's it's been I can't have what I'm used to, obviously, but that's the point of the sacrifice. I think I'm gonna be okay. I think it's it's a mindset. It is so it's it's definitely not the easiest thing to get through, but you have to have the right mindset and you have to be disciplined. And literally when I was studying, I guess you say the other day, I was just like, and I and I think I did like a little two-minute snippet or whatever the little morning things are that I do. But I was just like, we're sacrificing for 40 days, and it will still never compare to the sacrifice that was made for us. So we can complain about this 40 days, and for some it seems so long, but the ultimate sacrifice, you'll never be able to repay that. So when I think about it from that standpoint, I got this. That man did what he did. I I owe him. It's the least I can do.
SPEAKER_04It was that's just like the video I just posted today where the lady was talking about her unflavored oatmeal, which is what I went through today with my dates, and she said, I hate this unflavored oatmeal. And guys said, Well, try dying on the cross as a sacrifice. And she said, Okay, well, I'll eat this unflavored oatmeal.
SPEAKER_01Absolutely. And I ain't seen that, but that's just literally earlier this week. I was thinking about that. I'm like, man, this ain't no comparison. It is what it is. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So how you doing? Um, I'm not gonna hold you. Well, Wednesday.
SPEAKER_06Were you right, right? Did you start Thursday too?
SPEAKER_03Look, I did. The only thing and two Double Tree cookies on Valentine's Day that were still in my house.
SPEAKER_04You didn't even stay at Double Tree. You know what?
SPEAKER_03I'm not throwing these away. These gotta get eight. That's it. That's all. That's the only thing I messed up on. I did not throw those cookies away. I was not going to. And then my house was clear. Actually, my house wasn't clear. Like, I didn't, I didn't actually clean house the way I usually do for a fast. It was just the double tree cookies. Like, I was like, nah. Like, I actually had to go ask for those. Like, not staying at the hotel. Like, I gotta eat them. To eat them. So I ate them. And then ever since then, like it's been fine. Um, I felt bad eating them, but they did taste really good. And I did at the beginning of the day, if that helps, I don't know if that helps. I've been mostly on the fast. Like, I've been cool. Pretty much. I did it real early. I just started the fast a little bit late. Like I started in the afternoon, the morning, which don't help. None. I understand that, but I woke up and saw them and was like, dang, Nati's still here. They gotta go. So I started the fast in the afternoon. I had cookies for breakfast. I could not give myself to them away. And yeah, besides that, I'm cool. Like I'm I'm a little fresh off of Daniel fast. So that took me outy, McDowdy. I was having a hard time. But I'm used to this one. And last year, you'll recall, we were just starting this podcast. I was like, I'm so excited for this fast. I have a lot to talk to Big Homie
Coffee Debates: Mushroom Mixes And Sweeteners
SPEAKER_03G about right now. And we are in an entirely different place than we were last year. So I I have a lot to talk about with him in a different way. So I'm like, yeah, let's go. Like we lost in.
SPEAKER_04I'm so excited for this fast. I needed it.
SPEAKER_03Right. Like, very excited for it. I'm I'm sorry about I'm sorry about the cookies for real. Um we locked in.
SPEAKER_04We locked in now. Okay. We locked in now. No, I was gonna say, no, cannot have any fried foods, no sweets, and no bread. In addition to that, I added on no secular music. I know. Then and and here's the thing: the my closest friends know one of my favorite songs is March Madness by Future. And I can't hear that. And March is about to be March. The entire month of March, we are on the Linton Test. So yeah. But anyway, I gave that up. But Reagan told me the youth ministry gave up secular music too, which she was sad about because she said she cannot listen to Beyonce and her percentage is gonna go down. So that's what I was gonna say.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, she's been having her gospel playlist more crazy. If she wants to keep her see each other.
SPEAKER_04I know I was excited when she told me, but God had been convicting me about secular music and giving it up. And so when she told me that on Sunday, I was like, okay, I'm gonna incorporate it with the fast and let's try it with the fast. So that was confirmation for me.
SPEAKER_03Okay, okay. Tell the baby she can listen to uh gospel medley by Destiny's child.
SPEAKER_06Keep the keep the the percentage up a little bit.
SPEAKER_04I like Well, I miss my trap music. That's what I miss the most. Um, y'all know me and Jeezy go go together real bad. But I do have a rap Christian playlist that I listen to. The thing that makes it hard, like it's not hard for me not to do secular music at all, but when I work out, like I need something that's going to pump me up. So I kind of listen to that instead, but yeah. Yeah, I'm gonna send it to you and Reagan so she could uh listen to it too. There's a Christian R and B and a Christian rap.
SPEAKER_06Mm-hmm. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Did y'all do any Yeah, I don't need them to shoot me in the throat and go kill somebody and all that. Whatcha? Uh we don't need all that.
SPEAKER_06We're talking about music. Okay, okay. Okay.
SPEAKER_04Oh, and another thing we were gonna talk about is Shawnee. I don't know if you've seen the email, but the change of address actually got processed finally. But I went to the PO box today and there was only five pieces of mail. Now I know good and well, we don't have just five pieces of mail since December.
SPEAKER_05Didn't say it. Why would you?
SPEAKER_04Seriously. We got a right here in our hand. No, but everybody been talking about since King that's uh Reverend Jesse Jackson died, and they were talking about when he was there when King died, and I was like, oh since King Dad since King Dad. We was under Granny forever, so we had no choice. No choice.
SPEAKER_06We hung out with granny and her front yes. Right. Granny and all her front yes. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. All the deacons, the mothers, the usher boy. We had no choice. No, you didn't. No, you didn't. No, you didn't. Not Lord help. Lord help. Okay. That's funny, but my gosh. So they was around when King Dad is what you're saying. Shutting it down. Shutting it down. That's it. Happy Black History Ma. That's it right there. Are you really though? Mm-hmm. Okay. No. Yeah, wait a minute. Thank you. Y'all good?
SPEAKER_04Alright. Anything y'all doing? I know we talked about this last episode, but anything special y'all doing in continuation of Black History Month?
Lenten Fast Rules And Mindset
SPEAKER_04Y'all got anything going on? Not the crickets. I'm gonna keep it a bug with you.
SPEAKER_03I'm gonna keep it a bug with you. I start out Black History Month Strong every single year. Then it gets to the day my dad died, I don't really care that it's February no more. Like I lose team immediately. I have nothing else to give or tell you. So it's the first half for you. It is like um never mind. Let me not say that. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04You passed up a time, basically.
SPEAKER_03I gotta pass it. I still love being black. I'm still participating in the laughter on social media. I be trying to buy black on all year. You know what I'm saying? Like specifically, like energy towards black history months. The 17th. I don't got it. I don't got it.
SPEAKER_04I did go into your store today. What's your store you like? That's my store.
SPEAKER_05Uh store?
SPEAKER_04And me. Oh no, she's talking about the black. I'm talking about the black-own store.
SPEAKER_05Silver room.
SPEAKER_04Silver room. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Shout out to them.
SPEAKER_04I didn't see anything now. But yeah, shout out to them. I didn't go in there for anything. That's no shade.
SPEAKER_02I just didn't see anything.
SPEAKER_04Okay, because I was trying to shop for somebody in particular, so it wasn't anything in there that they liked. So Okay.
SPEAKER_03All right, amazing.
SPEAKER_06Like, what are you doing? Yeah.
SPEAKER_04That was another thing I was gonna say that saddened me. Cause I usually like go and watch like old movies, kind of like that. But I gave up TV for the the Lint Fast as well. And I don't know if I was thinking about it, but it is give up for the Lint Fast. It's a sacrifice though. It's a sacrifice. I got some things that I have to get done in this season. But my show's Paradise comes back out this week, which I'm upset that I won't be able to see when it comes out. And then my other show on Netflix, Night Agent new season comes out. So I'm a little bit upset about that. But nope, I can't watch TV unless it's the news. Um yeah. There's anything I should have given up, it would've been the news. I mean, but okay, so you know the Sabbath is on Sunday. So y'all think I could catch up on Sunday? Y'all think I should do that? Like what y'all think?
SPEAKER_06I'm not gonna do that, but yeah. No TV. I don't think so.
SPEAKER_03So proud of you. So what what is allowed for you in this season? Would you not give up? Water. Amazing. I'm so proud of you. Uh-huh. Girl, you doing it. I'm proud. It was more than enough for me. Yeah. And I failed with the kids in the beginning. So.
SPEAKER_04There's that. I'm sacrificing enough for you. God is still pleased. Right. Nah. But at the end, I want to be able to say this happened because of this. I'm not going to watch TV at all. Now, my trap music on Sunday, that might still happen.
SPEAKER_03I know it will. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04With the TV, nah.
SPEAKER_03I know it will. You're going to listen to at least one Jeezy song. For sure. For sure.
SPEAKER_04We got to do that.
SPEAKER_03Right when the clock strikes 12.01 p.m., not a.m. I don't think you're going to wait up for it, but the second it's not like Sunday morning no more. I don't think you're going to wait up until midnight for it, but the second is 12.01 p.m. Like it's not Sunday morning technically anymore. I know you're going to have that Jeezy on.
SPEAKER_04First of all, that used to be the best car rides after church. We used to turn up in the car after church.
SPEAKER_03If you did used to wait until it was not Sunday morning.
SPEAKER_04We used to listen to the gospel playlist on the way to church. But as soon as we got back in the car, that music. Yeah, it changed. It changed. Yeah. It was a video that I just seen with a guy uh who said this is him on his way to go pick up the ashes from church for Ash Wednesday. But he was listening to Knuckhy Buck. And I was like, that is so accurate. What was he listening to after he got the ashes though? The same thing, probably. That part. Yes.
SPEAKER_06Yes.
SPEAKER_04Well, I'm excited for the Linton Fast and what God is going to do. I'm excited for y'all. And I'm excited for family brunch tomorrow.
SPEAKER_03For the first time since the event, me too.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Yeah. I don't know what we're doing with these things. Sask's going to go pick them up tonight.
SPEAKER_06I'm going to go get mine in the morning. I'm going to a store I ain't never been to. Why?
SPEAKER_04Because I know they probably got it. And I've never gone to this store because I don't shop at this store. But four men meals. Yeah, I ain't never been there before, but they say they got plain shirts and stuff, so I'm just gonna go there and get it. You could just go to Michael. And pay $25 for a t-shirt?
SPEAKER_05Okay, you're right. No? Don't the gas station be having white tees?
SPEAKER_04And they probably gonna make you itch. And on that note, we are going to leave because they're talking gibberish, having
Giving Up Secular Music And Workouts
SPEAKER_04me go buy itchy t-shirts for a project.
SPEAKER_06I can't but I need to tell them where they can find us. Boom. And don't be a stranger. Comment share. We love y'all. It's the season of none.
SPEAKER_04Is it really? Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Oh yeah, it was uh Valentine's Day. Yeah, I didn't tell the listeners to what y'all did. Mm-hmm. All right, good night.
