Introduction to Real Moms, Real Faith

Speaker 1

This is Jenna Marie Masters with the Real Moms , real Faith podcast . I am so glad you're here so you can be encouraged to trust God with all the things one day at a time . Hello , welcome back to the podcast . This is episode 19 . I'm so happy you are here . Last week we talked about the first prayer that every mom needs this year and that prayer was Dear Lord , please fill me up with the fullness of your love and it came straight from Ephesians 3 , that we pray that we are filled to the measure of the fullness of God

The Empty Heart: A College Dropoff

Speaker 1

. And I want to tell you what prompted this prayer .

Speaker 1

Weeks ago I dropped off my oldest son at college . I know some moms listening . You were there with me and it is no joke . I felt the loss physically , like inside my bones and my flesh . It felt like my heart was emptying out , draining out of my toes . And if you're not there yet , I guarantee you will think back to this podcast and think Jenna was right . When your first kid moves out , it feels like a physical loss , like you feel it in your body . I cried so hard . My younger son had to go get me ice cubes from the hotel several times so I could try to get my eyes to de-puff because I didn't want to go to all these new parent events looking like a monster .

Speaker 1

But I want to tell you something . I experienced a miracle that weekend , as my body was just feeling like it was emptying out . It led me to prayer and it was this physical feeling of being empty and exhausted that gave me the right words to

First Prayer: Fill Me Up

Speaker 1

pray . And I just started praying . God , I feel empty . I feel like every bit of love of me is just being squeezed out and I just don't know if I can do it any more in my own power . I need you to fill me up . Just fill me up , because I'm feeling hollow . And when I stopped to pray , I experienced a miracle , as I felt like every little last drip of me was draining out . I just felt the Lord filling me up in a supernatural way . If you're a mom that loves Jesus , you will get to experience a miracle that other moms don't , because right when we feel our love has hit a limit and we ask God to fill us back up , he is faithful to fill us up with his love . And with that love came joy and hope and excitement over what God was going to be letting into my life as I let go Our love for our kids . It can feel like a weight sometimes , can't it ? So this is what I have learned in this season Surviving parenthood is summed up in this we pour out and let God pour in . If we resist the second step of letting God pour into us , we will stand empty before our children , our husbands , our community , and I don't want any of us to be empty this year . So don't forget that first prayer Pour into us . We will stand empty before our children , our husbands , our community , and I don't want any of us to be empty this year . So don't forget that first prayer . God , please fill me up with the fullness of your love .

Second Prayer: Show Me Different Love

Speaker 1

And here's the second prayer . I feel God is calling all moms to pray this year .

Speaker 1

Dear God , show me how your love is different , and this is coming straight from David's mouth in Psalm 17 , 7 . He says this . He says I call on you , my God , for you will answer me . Turn your ear to me and hear my prayer . Show me the wonders of your great love .

Speaker 1

The original language here is worded wondrously , show me your great love . And that word wondrously means to be distinct , marked out , separated or distinguished . David's wording here is also very personal . He is saying show me , show me how your love is different , god . Show me how it's distinct from this world . Show me how your love is distinct and different from the love I was trying to give in my own power . I want to experience the difference of your love in specific and personal ways . I mean , what a prayer have you ever prayed this before ? I have never prayed this before until reading this verse and really digging in to see what the real meaning of it was .

Speaker 1

The same word is used in Psalm 139 , 14 when David says I praise you , I am fearfully and wonderfully made your works are wonderful , and I know that full well . The part where it says you are fearfully and wonderfully made , your works are wonderful , and I know that full well . The part where it says you are fearfully and wonderfully made that word wonderfully is the same word . It's the same word . That means you are distinct , you are marked out , you are separated from this world , and because we are distinct and separated from this world , we have a distinct and separate love that is meant for us to see only through God's power . There is only one way to access this love , and it is through our Father , god . We are human , so we so often put the same definitions of the world's love onto God . We try to put God's love in a box , but that definition , any definition that we make in our own power , is flimsy and shallow . So I want to talk about how his love is different in two different categories , so that we can

How God's Love Makes Us Different

Speaker 1

pray these two things specifically . Number one his love is different for what it does for us .

Speaker 1

I'm just going to go straight to scripture here , because that's a blessed place to go and I will put all of these scriptures in the podcast notes if you want to look them up yourself . But here are some truths that are distinct about the love of God . God's love drives out fear . His love leads us out of bondage . His love saves us . His love surrounds us . His love protects us . God's love rescues us . God's love satisfies us , it supports us , it comforts us , it preserves our life . God's love silences our enemies . God's love covers all wrongs . God's love is as strong as death . And God's love covers our sins .

Speaker 1

So we can start out our prayer saying God , show me how different your love is , prove it to me . I really believe that David's heart here is show me , prove it to me . I know you will , I know you can . I want to see it live out in my life in a very specific way , ways that I can tell my children about , ways that the world will look and see . That is supernatural , that is different .

Speaker 1

So , lord , I ask you that this week you can just show me , show me how your love protects me . Show me how your love supports me . Show it , how it saves me and comforts me . Surprise me , father , just like you showed the Israelites how distinctly they were loved and set apart by all the wonders you did in the desert to free them from slavery . God , reveal to us if we're in bondage to anything , them from slavery . God , reveal to us if we're in bondage to anything a fear or a resentment or a worry , or even a TV show or a bad habit that we've gotten into , lord . I pray , lord , that this week you set me free through your love , because you say that your love sets us free from bondage . And if anybody listening , lord , is in bondage to any of these things , I pray , lord , that you show them what your love can do . You are the same God then and you are the same God now . We want signs and wonders of your love in our life and we're going to start praying for them .

Speaker 1

The second part of the prayer is this God show me how your love makes me different , because anything we do in our own parenting void of love means nothing . Remember from 1 Corinthians 13 , where it says If I speak God's word with power , revealing all mysteries and make everything plain as day , and if I have faith , that's said to a mountain , jump and it jumps . But I don't have love . No-transcript . So no matter what I say , what I believe and what I do , I'm bankrupt without love . If we approached our parenting with this thought in mind , I think it could revolutionize our home . We can pray specifically . You can open up 1 Corinthians 13 and pray these things . You can say God , show me how my love will never give up for my children . Lord , help me to care for others more than I care for myself . Help me , lord , to not want what I don't have . Dear Lord , I pray that your love changes me from the inside , so that I'm not selfish , that it changes me from the inside , that I don't fly off the handle , that I don't keep score of sins .

Speaker 1

This can play out in a lot of different ways . Last week , studying for this , I read over 600 Bible verses about love . And guess what I did that night ? I was going to bed and my husband had the light on and I turned around and I snapped at him so harsh I don't even know if I said please . I was like turn that light off . I am so tired . I was so mean and I was like God , just stop for a minute . I'm like I literally just read like 600 Bible verses on love and then I turned to my husband and like ripped his head off because the light is on love . And then I turned to my husband and like ripped his head off because the light is on .

Speaker 1

Reading about love does not make me loving . I need the Lord to help me be loving , to change me from the inside out . I had to stop in that moment and pray and repent and say God , change me , change my response to my husband in love , only you can do that Same thing with your children with patience . Love is patient , love is kind . I can read that , but if I'm not praying that God helps me to do that , nothing's going to happen . Dear Lord , show me how your love can make me different . Help me in this response right now to be patient .

Speaker 1

I think one of the most beautiful examples that I have seen of this recently is when we watched the memorial on TV this week for Charlie Kirk and we saw his wife stand up there in front of millions of people who are watching on TV and in person and she declares I forgive the man that killed my husband . Ladies , there was a little girl that stole my mood necklace when I was in the third grade and honestly I'm not sure I have even forgiven her yet . A widow could not have done that in her own power . That is how the love of Christ makes us different . It changes our natural reactions . It changes the resentment that we carry as humans and the bitterness and the thoughts that we have towards revenge and impatience towards our husbands , our children . That is a love that looks different from the world , so I love this prayer by David . Dear

Closing Thoughts and Invitation

Speaker 1

God , show me the wonders of your great love .

Speaker 1

I want to end with this . One of the most amazing things about God's love , and why it is different and why it is distinct , is because his love is everlasting . The Bible tells us over 178 times that God's love endures forever . I don't know about you , but I want my love to last for generations . But I also want it to last for today , while my kids are hanging out with friends and running across the soccer field , and for tomorrow when my next kid goes away to college , and in 10 years when we walk our daughter down the aisle . I want my love to last when I kiss the faces of my grandbabies and while my wrinkled hands are praying for my great-grandchildren , if God , so willing , allows that . But here's what I know as fierce as a mother's love is , it's not forever unless the love of Christ is flowing through them .

Speaker 1

This is my prayer this week and this year for all of us , lord . I pray that we take the time to be filled up with you . Lord , I pray that we take the time to ask you to show us why your love is different in our lives , to expect you to show up in radical ways , because that is the God that you are . So , that being said , I expect to hear from you this week , because I believe miracles are going to be happening in your home . When we ask God to show up , he does . So please write me and tell me anything that's going on , so I can pray for you and rejoice with you . Just write me an email , hello at jennamariemasterscom and if God put someone on your heart this week to listen to this , please share with them .
