According to the National Institute of Aging, a quarter of people aged over 65 fall every year from various reasons, including medications, dehydration, low blood pressure, and inactivity. Injury Prevention Expert, Rachel Meade, says eating nutritious food is also key to reducing falls. “Good food fuels your body with the energy it needs to stay strong and active as you age and eating regular nutritious meals from a variety of food groups is essential.” Rachel says including protein-rich foods is important for muscle and bone health, preventing problems with vision, memory, and thinking, and reducing the risk of dementia; Calcium for strong bones; Vitamin D to help the body absorb calcium; and Vitamin K to help with blood clotting, bone health, and calcium retention. “It’s also really important to eat regular meals from a variety of food groups and limit alcohol consumption to maintain crucial coordination as we age.”
