So Chicken Sisters. Yes, that's going to premiere on the Hallmark Channel on March 30th, but it did drop one episode a week on Hallmark Plus last September. So I think I know we've talked about it before, about possibly watching it. What do you think? I think we should start.

Maybe george siegel was in it he played the grandpa in the goldbergs oh really, yeah, we loved him, but he owned a fashion magazine and his daughter comes to work for him and wendy malik is one of the people that works there, I think, and she, the daughter, comes in and she kind of is jealous that the daughter's not working there, because she's worked there the whole time and all that jazz, but it was a famous you know a lot of you're gonna show us.

We promise we'll drop it now we're winding down with Royal Weekends, unfortunately. I love me some Royal Weekends, but starting Saturday, march, march 22nd Hallmark's first of five new Spring Into Love movies will premiere, so we're starting a new series.

Well, that's pretty awesome, but today we're going to be reviewing Royalish that aired on Saturday, March 15th 2025. If you missed it, you can now stream it on Hallmark Plus. This is the final brand new Royal Weekend movie in March, so do you want to tell us who's in it?

Who is in it? Royal-ish stars Nicole Sakura. She plays Lacey, aka Princess Sweet Pea, an amusement park princess. And what do we know her from Superstore, superstore. We loved her as Cheyenne in Superstore.

She was so good that show is so.

she was so good in that we just adored her in that. Her first Hallmark movie, though, was in 2024. She was in the Finish Line.

We did not see that one, that's one we didn't see but we should probably go watch it because we I really liked her in this yes and hoping to see more of her. And this is. She was also in ghosts. She was in three episode of ghost. She was the car ghost. She couldn't leave the car, oh do you remember?

Another cute series that we absolutely adore is. Ghost. Just a fun light, sometimes heartwarming 30 minutes, so check that out if you want. William Mosley plays Prince Henry. He was in 2023's Christmas in Notting Hill on Hallmark. He was in the TV show called the Royals. I don't know if you remember that. I think we watched maybe like a little bit of that. It was on the E Channel in 2015 through 2018. And he actually played a prince there too Prince Liam.

No, no, I think we watched maybe one season of that, and then he was also in the Chronicles of Narnia film series. I think there are three different films.

Oh, maybe I'm going to have to go back and look at them and see if they oh okay, he was in all three. Yes, yes, yes, yes, uh. Francesca europa plays princess katrina rose, a real life princess, and she's been in a handful of things, including minor region holiday from 2023, which we have seen. Yes, she was really cute in that. Emily swain plays Queen Eloise Sophia Adly plays Ava Lee, which is Nicole's slash Princess, sweepy's friend and roomie, and Brendan Dempsey plays Lionel, the counsel to the queen.

All righty, here we go. Royalish is based on the book Once Upon a Royal Summer by Terry Wilson, which I highly recommend. Lacey is an amusement park princess who befriends eight-year-old Rose, a real-life princess, and is recruited by her handsome father to travel to their kingdom and be the new governess. Aw isn't that nice.

So what was your first impression, or overall impression, I should say my overall impression.

Amy 7:30

I really liked it. I thought it was light, it was fun, it didn't take itself too seriously, there wasn't really like a mean evil character.

Garry 7:39

Yeah, no.

Amy 7:40

It was just it wasn't too serious, it was, you know, and I mean I guess none of the Royal Weekend movies were, you know, took themselves too seriously, but I thought Nicole and William had a really great chemistry.

They did.

Throughout the entire film. So I really enjoyed that. And also I would just like to say she talks about as Lacey. She talks about how she has a bachelor's in psychology and that's very familiar, because I too have a bachelor's in psychology. And that's very familiar because I too have a bachelor's in psychology.

Ask me if I use my bachelor in psychology.

I do. Well, yeah, that's true, maybe on the kids too, I don't know. But the truth is, if you get a psychology degree, you have to go on to graduate school to really do what you want to practice in. And she kind of mentions that and I have about a year towards my graduate school and then life happened and whatnot, and my life took a different direction. But she does kind of talk about you know how she has to go on and she hasn't been back and back to school and so that's why she's working as a princess. And I just thought that was kind of relatable to me, because sometimes your life takes a turn.

You got to pay that school bill back.

Amy 8:49

You got to pay the school bill and things happen and you know, I mean she enjoys what she's doing, but she just never made it back on that track, so I thought that was kind of interesting. Yeah, what about you?

I too love the movie. I also thought it was fun and not cheesy.

Amy 9:12

I like the concept of the you know theme park princess meeting a real life prince.

Garry 9:15

I thought that was you know, a unique perspective on it.

I have that a little bit later in my notes. I did love the palace, though, and the grounds for the palace. Oh my God, that was so cool, so cool.

Yeah, but it's not a surprise that we are mostly on the same page when we review these. But you know, overall I thought it was a fun movie and I loved how they made her. She actually used her psychology. I just thought it was cool.

Well, she did. What do you mean? When she had the tea party, she talked to the kids.

Oh right, she was very engaging.

With the kids she would give advice.

She would really listen to them. Yes, yes.

I can see that, which you hope a princess in a theme park would do.

Well, right, right, you're not there just to take pictures.

What were some of your favorite scenes? These kids look up to you. What were some of your?

favorite scenes, some of my favorite scenes or one favorite scene. Let me take a sip of wine first before I answer that, oh, you need some wine.

Amy 10:37

I really do. Hold on just one second. You feel like you need some Sorry. Some juice to get you going with your favorite scene? Huh, okay and go.

Garry 10:47

Okay. So I guess my favorite scene would have been when she comes in and introduces herself at the tea party when the princess and the prince first meet her. I liked how you know she kind of she said oh, my back is hurting, you want to know why? Because there was a pee underneath my mattress. Yes, I thought that was kind of cute.

Amy 11:10

That was really cute.

Garry 11:11

And I'm not quite sure that that would hurt your back. But hey, go with the hallmark. And I loved how she sat down and she talked to the princess and her dad kind of you know, kind of guided her with some questions to ask her daughter you know, are you nervous? And she told her about how she got over her nervousness when she met people. So yeah, that was my favorite saying oh, okay, there you go so what about you?

you'll be shocked to learn that it's the same see, we're on the same I have. I have the tea party just where she first meets princess rose. Well, it's katrina rose, but they generally call her princess rose in it and she, you know, and princess rose is a real princess and it's kind of and she's saying things that a real princess would.

Amy 11:54

But princess sweet pea lacy is like, oh really, and you can tell she kind of I mean she, she doesn't really believe her and like when she talks about the crown oh yes and princess rose says you know, I can't, I can't wear my real one, right, because it's too sparkly, and you know, and lacy's like, oh, you know, I can't wear my real one Right, because it's too sparkly, and Lacey's like, oh really, you know, like she's kind of humoring her, even though it's true. I just thought that the play on that was really really cute and fun.

Let's see, I thought the daddy the fact that, like you said, you know her dad was in on it that she was a real princess and he was kind of enjoying the back and forth and enjoying seeing Lacey not really believing that or knowing that she's a real princess. So I thought that really worked well. The rules that she talked about the two princess rules, I loved you must read as many books as you can.

And a princess must find a reason to do what's right even when it's hard. I just really love the positive girl messaging, so that whole scene just really worked for me so I guess you're a princess because you read a lot of books I do, I do.

Amy 12:58

I don't know about the princess part, but yeah, I read a lot of books, yeah. So, yeah, we were, we were samers. I love the croquet scene because, you know, I had a croquet kit kit set growing up and we played it all the time in our front yard and we're far from royalty, that's for sure. But you know what I loved? I just and I like the picnic scene. Oh, that was, that was really cute.

There's a lot of cute.

Yeah, yeah, that was cute. So yeah, we were. We were about the same, just in general. Yeah, yeah, it was a fun movie, A cute fun movie. So what was your biggest cheer then?

Garry 13:39

I just liked the way they made her a loving character. And a teaching character Lacey.

Amy 13:47

Yeah, yeah.

Garry 13:48

You know, I just she never seemed to get really upset. She just took everything in stride right, she went with it you know she made the best of it, yeah she didn't even when she left to go back to the states. She wasn't, like you know, broken down, she was like oh you know, let me go pick my pieces up again.

You know, that was my favorite.

Yeah, your biggest cheer. What about?

Like you, I thought the story was adorable. I like that they didn't make Princess Rose some sort of spoiled brat who went through governesses, like you know no.

Garry 14:24

I know Like she was changing her clothes.

Amy 14:27

I just I thought it was really cool. She was actually a cute, adorable little girl you know who had lost her mom, and she wasn't spoiled and she was just looking for guidance from a female. I just I thought that really worked. I like that they didn't make his mother an evil queen.

Garry 14:43

Right.

Amy 14:44

There was no real, you know malice there. I just I like that they're playing more on real even though, okay, it's unrealistic, but it's real human emotions and everybody doesn't always hate each other, or, you know, try to get one over on somebody yeah, it does happen. Or stuck up or, you know, spoiled. So I just I thought the whole thing, I just really liked it. And can we bring skedaddle back? Oh my goodness, skedaddle back as a word that was one of my other.

She's saying like I'm leaving. That means I'm leaving.

Amy 15:15

She's like I know I know, the queen said I know right.

Garry 15:18

Not sure why you used it right, right right, lacy says yes, lacy sorry, says I'm leaving.

I'm leaving or no? She says it's time for me to skedaddle.

Yeah, that was so funny.

Yeah, that was a cute scene.

But yeah, let's bring skedaddle back. But the princess remember when which one? The young girl Rose, the theme park princess is what I'll say when I'm talking about Lacey.

Princess Sweepy, but it reminds me of when we went to Disney. Remember when we were walking to get dinner and the British couple that was behind us and the little girl, oh, yes, yes, what was she talking about?

We were at the resort.

Right.

And there was a British couple and the little girl was probably gosh, I don't know, nine, eight, I don't know. She was young, probably in elementary school, but she said Daddy, do you think there are crocodiles in the river? Yes, and it was so cute. Oh my goodness, Her accent was so cute and then her dad said I don't think that's an actual river, and of course, my British accent is terrible, but I nearly died because it reminded me so much of Peter Pan.

And it was just. Are there actual crocodiles?

in the river. We both looked at each other and just had these big grins on our face.

Oh my, gosh, Maybe they were royalty. For all we know they probably were. She could have been, but it was just. It was so cute.

But it was like they had planned on saying it as they walked by.

It was utterly adorable. Yes, it was. I haven't thought about that in a while.

So what about your biggest jeer?

Amy 16:59

Oh wait, I had another cheer.

Let me back it up and you kind of talked about it earlier. I'm loving the location shoots.

Oh yes.

This one was also shot in Ireland. It was Like the Reluctant Royal. Oh, they must have A couple different locations and you kind of brought it up in that the scenery is beautiful, the castles or estates are beautiful. You know, when you look it just makes a big difference. I think in the genuineness of the movie.

Yes, it really does.

Amy 17:30

So I really have enjoyed that and I think the Royal we was filmed in Bulgaria, I believe, right, but yeah, I'm just so in general, so I love that that would be another cheer for me is the on-location shoot in. Ireland.

Garry 17:44

Remember when the queen was talking to her advisor in that courtyard? That big, huge bush hedge, whatever you want to call it. That thing was huge.

Amy 17:54

Yes, how did they cut that thing? I don't know.

same place that has the lights that he took her to as his favorite place on the estate.

I don't know, because it looked like it was opposite.

Maybe it was different. Okay, okay, yeah, because it looked like it was Christmas tree lights, right, okay, okay, yeah, because it looked like it was Christmas tree lights, right, right, maybe they were giving us a little taste of what's coming in July or something Christmas in July.

But yeah, the scenery was really beautiful.

Yeah, so that's my final cheer.

Okay. Well then, let's move on to jeers, the biggest jeer. What did you have?

Amy 18:23

The biggest jeer for me. I had two, a meme. Um, I had two. One was after the procession and the queen goes up to lacy and says that was a neat little trick you had.

Amy 18:37

I know wasn't that rude and she's like what do you mean? She said that was a nice trick, riding the horse in between princess rose and the prince you know, and but she was saying it in a way I couldn't like was was she trying to be mean, was she trying? It just didn't really, it didn't really go with the whole vibe of everything. And then you had the Queen's Council come after her and talk to Lacey and basically what did he tell her? That you know that was a nice trick. He used the same word trick, right. And then he basically told her she was going to have to leave.

Right.

Amy 19:08

Because that was enough and it was a scandal because of a scandal, because she was american and you know and all that jazz. So I just felt like, you know, I was the queen mad. Was she upset? Was she kind of saying it like oh, that was a nice trick, I see what you did there kind of like with a smirk, but not really so, it didn't really, it didn't really play well. And then when lacy leaves and the prince doesn't know why and he talks to his mom and then they have like the, the governess is there and they ask her what really happened and she says well, I overheard the council. Uh, you know, your counsel, tell him, uh, tell her that she had to leave. And then the queen acts like well, I didn't say anything bad, but she did.

She said the same thing he did. I just thought it was kind of funny, you know.

Amy 19:55

So that's like a little jeer for me, Cause it was like she said the same thing that her counsel said to Lacey, but the counsel got, you know, he got the blame.

Garry 20:05

So I just Well, she didn't tell Lacey she had to leave.

Amy 20:09

No, no, she didn't. No, she didn't. She didn't do that part but she was sort of like you know, are you? Trying to trick, you know are you trying to win my son over. You know the prince or whatever.

Garry 20:22

So yeah, so that that I felt like it was a dig. From her From her. Yeah, yeah, I mean, that's the way it came off across.

Amy 20:29

But it wasn't so harsh it almost didn't work in the scene. In my opinion, they could have just had the royal, the council to the queen, go and do that, and he's the bad guy.

Garry 20:39

Right, right. I felt like she could have just went. You know, thank you, I'm so happy she got back on the horse and you know that you rode next to her. I don't think she had to say in between both of them, right, right, but you know what? Hallmark did it.

Amy 20:56

Yeah, that is what it is. So that was my dear. What about you?

Okay, I don't know this. Oh, you had a list. No, I just have one Okay. No, I just have one, okay. And that was at the end, when the princess not Princess Sweepy, but the princess she rides up. Princess Rose Rides up on a horse and she gets off and she runs down and Princess Sweepy, she's like but you already have a horse. And they're like no, it's for you. And then they talk about how it came from King William in the Reluctant Royal who is the horse King is Duke.

I think Is it Duke. I thought she said King Go ahead. Maybe I'm wrong.

Garry 21:45

She says Uncle Will or something like that Great Uncle Will. Maybe I'm wrong. She says Uncle Will or something like that Great Uncle Will, and that the horse came from. What was it? Triscuit?

Amy 21:55

Right.

Garry 21:56

Which was a reference to the Reluctant Royal Right, the end of the Reluctant Royal.

But if you go back to the Reluctant Royal. It was a black horse and it was named Biscuit that they were shipping to the Prince Henry Right, right At the end of Reluctant Royal. Yes.

Says we're sending this horse, and he says it to Princess Biscuit or no, no, it's not Prudence, he says it to Andrew and Prudence Right. Right, he says we're sending this to your cousin.

And this is Triscuit's son, Biscuit, and we're sending it as a gift to Henry.

Right, Right. But when they give it to the horse it's white. So I don't understand why they did that Because they had two black horses when they did the procession. Right and I was like what in the world? Come on, hallmark Right.

Amy 22:49

But he did say but Prince Henry does say it's one of Triscuit's sons. So I think they got away with it not being the specific one that's mentioned in the Reluctant Royal. But it would have been better if it was because they were. They were tying all three movies together.

Well, maybe the black horse had another gig, who knows?

Maybe he was booked out, you know, but that was my biggest year. Well, no, I mean I and that was my second year along those lines. Is I really wanted one last scene that combined all of them, because it's supposed?

to be the wedding of Princess Bee and Prince Desmond. Right them, because it's supposed to be the wedding of princess b and prince desmond. Right, because at the end of the royal we they're talking about their seating chart, yep. And they bring up andrew and prudence, and they bring up prince henry and the american girl, right. So it would have been cool to kind of have one last scene where it's the wedding. They're getting married.

Just just brief like a two, just tie it like a minute, type of thing where you see um princess b and prince desmond getting married and then you quickly see andrew and prudence in the at the reception and you also see lacy and prince henry. I just thought that would have been a quick because they made such a big deal about it in each movie.

Yeah, and then at the end it was like where?

Yeah, where is it Anti-climatic?

Yeah, yeah, but so that's not really about royal-ish, that's about royal weekends and how they could have tied it all together. Yes, a little better.

Yes, yes. Well, I want to talk about just a couple of things that I actually I always think it's funny when they do it in the movie, like come on a disguise wearing a ball cap. Oh yeah, it's like Clark Kent wearing glasses when he's Clark Kent in Superman when he takes them off.

But you know they say people are really unobservant. Off, but you know they say people are really unobservant. I mean really, if you, you know, if you had somebody watch a crowd and then you ask them who was in the crowd, they oftentimes don't describe them accurately. They'll give a different description later. I mean, it's one of those things. So maybe it's one of those. It's so obvious, it's not obvious right you know what I mean.
