Welcome And How To Reach Us
SPEAKER_00Welcome to Pour the Wine, it's romcom time, where we'll sip some wine and review all things romcom on the Hallmark channel. I'm Amy.
SPEAKER_01And I'm Gary.
SPEAKER_00And we would love it if you would shoot us an email to Poorthewine, it's romcomtime at gmail.com and let us know your thoughts about the Spring Into Love movie so far or anything Hallmark related. We would love to hear from you.
SPEAKER_01We sure would. Please drop us a line.
SPEAKER_00Drop us a line. Shall we get right to it?
SPEAKER_01Let's do it.
Movie Facts Cast And Crew
SPEAKER_00Let's do it. Today we're going to be reviewing the fourth Spring Into Love movie of 2026, A Little Park Music. It originally aired on the Hallmark channel on Saturday, April 11th, 2026. And this one stars Lacey J. Maley. Hopefully I pronounced her last name correctly.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_00Which I should know how to do as Allie and Bo Mirchoff as Ryan. Lacey was most recently in 2025 Countdown to Christmases and Alpine Holiday. She, of course, was Jess O'Brien on Chesapeake Shores, a series that adored and loved. So if you haven't seen it, go check it out. She's actually going to be in a Countdown to Christmas 2026 movie with the one and only Tyler Hine.
SPEAKER_01Oh, that's gonna be good.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Hallmark Enthusiast 24-7. I say 24-7. She posted on Instagram. If you are not following her, go follow her. She is great. I think we started following her pretty much right when we started the podcast.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um, and she has a lot of information first. So she was one of the first ones to post about Lacey and Tyler. She was pretty sure it was Lacey with Tyler in some pictures, and it has been confirmed. And that movie is going to be called The Christmas Loop.
SPEAKER_01Oh, interesting.
SPEAKER_00And I keep thinking of Chicago Loop because I got it. Ah, but go Cubs. Sorry, gotta say that every time. Bo was last seen on Hallmark in the finish line, and I believe that aired a few years ago. Now, a few of the supporting cast members in A Little Park Music are Kendall Cross, is Beth, Francis Flanagan, whom we see a lot in Hallmark movies. She is Julia, Stephanie Petalano is Teresa, and Everett Anders is Sam.
SPEAKER_01This was directed by Peter Benson, one of our favorite directors. He's done a ton of Hallmark work as both an actor, excuse me, and director, which I'm kind of bummed because we didn't see him in this movie.
SPEAKER_00I know, you know.
SPEAKER_01And I thought he I just knew he was gonna have a cameo.
SPEAKER_00I don't want to give anything away, but I spent a lot of time looking for him.
SPEAKER_01You did.
SPEAKER_00I don't want to give away how I felt about the movie, but I spent a lot of time trying to see if I could find Peter Benson.
SPEAKER_01You did. I don't know.
SPEAKER_00I wonder if it'll come out he was in it somewhere. We were looking and we're like, it ended. We were like, where was he? I didn't see it. Oh, where's Peter? Where's Peter?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I know. Um Peter Benson, he just directed the latest Hannah Swenson mystery, which he was in. Sugar and Vice. And Little Park music was written by Rick Garman and Heather Taylor. A few of Rick's Hallmark writing credits are the Cherry Lane movies, the Gruonsman movies, which we loved, falling together in 2025's Oi to the World.
SPEAKER_00Oi to the world.
SPEAKER_01And unfortunately, could not find any Hallmark writing credits for Heather.
SPEAKER_00Well, it's a first, it's debut, right?
SPEAKER_01But this is your first, so the next time we see you, we'll be able to say you help write or collaborated on Little Park Music.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01So let's go ahead and drop the synops.
Spoiler Setup And First Reactions
SPEAKER_00All right. When a piano appears in the park gazebo interfering with important work, City Manager Allie joins forces with rookie cop Ryan to remove it, only to find both music and love hard to resist.
SPEAKER_01Aren't they both hard to resist?
SPEAKER_00Hard to resist.
SPEAKER_01Well, this is part of the podcast where if you haven't seen the movie yet, stop it. Go watch it and come back, because we'll probably talk about some of the spoilers. Or draw some spoilers.
SPEAKER_00So we might. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Take some time, go watch it, come back, and let us know what you think in the comments below.
SPEAKER_00Or maybe after the review, you know.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Then go back.
SPEAKER_00All right. All right, should we get into it?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, let's do it. All right. Let's do it. Don't be afraid.
SPEAKER_00Don't be afraid. All right. So here's the thing. Um, this is the movie we did a a spring into love preview of the movies that were coming up. And this was the one that I was most unsure about.
SPEAKER_01Yes. As a little truck. I was gonna say, I said in our review that this might be the sleeper, right?
SPEAKER_00You did. You were hopeful. Yes, I was very happy. Yeah, you did. You said this might end up being the sleeper hit. We don't know. And it turns out it was not the sleeper hit that we know.
SPEAKER_02Unfortunately.
SPEAKER_00Now, here's what we do. So um, if you're listening to us for the first time, thank you very much for tuning in. We're glad you're here. We hope you enjoy. Leave us a five-star rating. We would love it. Anywho, um, we will watch, we typically almost always watch things twice. We watch the movies the first time around just to enjoy it as a moviegoer, you know, and we we like to relax and enjoy it. And then we watch it the second time to take notes.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And I was not excited about having to watch it again, I'll be totally honest, because we watched it the first time. And I, you know, what's interesting is I really I just thought it missed the mark. I, you know, the whole idea you have this concept of a piano shows up magically in a gazebo, and then they have construction people take it away, and then it shows up again or a different one shows up. And I just I just felt like it missed the mark. I, you know, I I Bo, he was this cop. So, so Bo plays um what's his character named Ryan, right? So he's it was it was quirky a lot of the time, and I couldn't figure out if they were trying to make him, you know, uh like a um like a Barney Five type of cop where he's just sort of over the top, you know, corny at times, but not really. He didn't quite get there. So I wasn't sure about him or how he was supposed to be. And Lacey, I actually really enjoyed Lacey in this. Yeah, I I think if she had I I don't know what, but um, I I actually I really enjoy her, so I felt like she was pretty good in it, right? But she was definitely the highlight, and it just it just didn't work for me. I I I don't know, what did you it just never totally came together? The quirky music, you know how I feel about that. You don't need the quirky, corny music, yep, it just didn't totally come together for me the first time, and then when we watched it, I mean we had to we had to watch it again because I hadn't taken any notes, and I was like, uh, and I mean it was it's okay, you know, it's not the worst thing we've seen. No, so for sure. Um but it just didn't it just didn't work, it just didn't land for you. How about you?
SPEAKER_01Um I I feel the same. I my vibe on this was more like the rookie uh TV series with Nathan Villian.
SPEAKER_00I kind of felt like that's how the character he kind of looks like him a little bit, actually, to be totally honest with you.
SPEAKER_01In a Hallmark kind of way.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, right.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you know, I felt, you know, I I kind of like the story of you know, let's slow down, let's smell the roses, so to speak. Um, you get this when the movie first opens, you have Allie, she's walking through the town, meeting and talking to people, but she doesn't really stay long enough to, you know, smell the roses. She just moves on to the next person. And this this is what the whole movie is about is you know, it's about stopping, not just the the love for music or the love for your community, but the love for yourself. And yeah, she at the beginning didn't take the time to stop and listen to the people that she stopped to talk to. She just moved on to her way.
SPEAKER_00Well, she's busy, she's on the phone, she's doing 10 things at once, she's not focused, she's yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And if it just felt like, you know, the whole thing is it's the journey, not the destination, right?
SPEAKER_00Right.
SPEAKER_01And she was always about the destination and then moving on to the next big project. So that's what I got from this movie. So yeah, it didn't, it didn't hit the mark up for me either.
SPEAKER_00Right, right. So you kind of get you're right. I mean, the the point they were trying to get across, I mean, I understood it and it did make sense. And it it like almost got there. Also, I'm not that into pianos.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_00Can I just like I took piano lessons as a kid, I wasn't very good at it, I hated it. You know, I appreciate someone who can play the piano and you know, and or play it really well. I appreciate that. I have family members who can. Um, I just didn't find it interesting. You know, I wasn't that interested. The chemistry I didn't think worked between um, you know, the characters Allie and Ryan. I I thought it was okay.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_00You know, it wasn't it wasn't great.
SPEAKER_01If there was any hard, it didn't really keep my attention too often.
SPEAKER_00You know, I kept finding myself going, uh I don't want to use the word bored, but I mean, honestly.
SPEAKER_01No, I know. I mean, we've had such good movies up to this. Maybe a little bit.
SPEAKER_00I mean, I just was like, oh yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01You know, and you it kind of also had that tortoise and the hair type vibe too. They mentioned that a couple of times.
SPEAKER_00So yeah, yeah. Speaking of the tortoise and the hair, I did feel like it moved slow, more like the tortoise at some points. But it was more tortoise than hair.
SPEAKER_01Tell us how you really feel.
unknownAll right.
SPEAKER_00Well, let's I mean, like I said, it's hard because you know, people work so hard on these and no, I know, you know, and I don't want to totally, you know, like bash it like it was, but it just did not hit the mark for me. And you know, we're gonna talk about some positives and yeah, so we'll get there.
Piano Mystery Plot And Logic Gaps
SPEAKER_01All right. Well, let's let's talk about first talk about the Meat Cute.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_01What did you think?
SPEAKER_00If you want to talk about the premise, like we just discussed. So Allie is a city manager and they have one they have gotten this grant from this family. And part of the requirement of getting the money for the grant is they have to put a fountain in this what family's name or whatever, and it's right where the gazebo is.
SPEAKER_02In the town square.
SPEAKER_00In the town square. So they have to remove the gazebo or they're gonna tear the gazebo down or whatever and put a fountain there. That's that's sort of the gist. And so Allie's walking through the town, and you know, at one point, you know, a piano shows up in the gazebo, and then you have people come and kind of play the piano, and then they're like, Where did it come from? And here's where I am not able to suspend my, you know, reality for a little bit and be like, Where are the cameras? Everyone's got a phone, everyone's got a camera somewhere. Yeah, true. No one saw a piano being shifted to the, you know.
SPEAKER_01So that was a big truck, right?
SPEAKER_00Right.
SPEAKER_01You have to get it down a ramp from it's not like just a box you can drop.
SPEAKER_00So, anywho, that's you know, I tried to suspend reality for a little bit, but I just couldn't do it in this one. Right. So then they take the, you know, she has the construction people take the piano away, and another one appears. How many appear total? Two, three, three. I don't know.
SPEAKER_01Three pre three p pianos.
SPEAKER_00And then each time someone from the town is like, oh my gosh, there's a piano, blah, blah, blah. And they start playing the piano, you know. And I just, I don't know. I don't think it has the appeal. I mean, music brings people together. I get it. Look, I love Billy Joel as much as the next person, you know, Elton John, great pianist, right? Um, but I just, I just didn't, yeah. So, so anyway, so then they have, and then they and then it's a mystery. Who's putting the piano there? Why are they putting the piano there? So Allie's working with Ryan, the cop who is new to town, of course, um, to try to solve this mystery.
SPEAKER_01And supposedly he's only there for 60 days.
SPEAKER_00And he's only there for 60 days on because he did horrible in an interview and whatnot, but we all know he's gonna stay there.
SPEAKER_01He has to wait 60 days to reapply. So, yes.
The Jaywalking Meet Cute
SPEAKER_00All right, so now let's talk about the meat cute. So you go and you want to talk about it first.
SPEAKER_01So, you know, Allie's, by the way, she really got her steps in and with heels on. So kudos to her because my feet would be they'd be howling. She was walking it.
SPEAKER_00She was working it, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, she was. But she's walking on the other side of where Ryan, other side of the street of where Ryan is, and she cuts across just like any person would do, right? Because the crosswalk is in the other direction. And why walk down to the crosswalk only to have to walk all the way back when you get across?
SPEAKER_00Ain't nobody got time for that.
SPEAKER_01No one has time, right? And especially. She's in a hurry, she's got to get the job done, and she's gonna do it at all costs, right? So she walks across the street and there's Ryan, he's like, excuse me, but uh, you just jaywalked. And I love the banter back and forth. I I thought it was kind of funny because she actually thought she was gonna get out of getting a ticket. She did. And it was played so well. And at the end, he's he's like, um, he I can't remember what he says. He goes, uh what was it? Something like she she gives him advice on or she gives him uh advice on some Thai restaurant or something. Oh, yes, where to go, and to mention somebody's name and he'd get a surprise or something like that. And so she's she thinks she's gonna get out of it. And then he goes, Oh yeah, about that ticket. And she kind of smiles like, you know, I gave you, you know, this nice restaurant. And he goes, I'm gonna need your signature.
SPEAKER_00Your signature, yeah. That it was actually kind of cute.
SPEAKER_01It was cute. So yeah, what did you think about it?
SPEAKER_00I mean, I thought it was it's just as you described. I mean, she's jaywalking, you know, he's like, Hey ma'am, I'm gonna have to give you a ticket for jaywalking, you know, or whatever. And she's like, No, there's no traffic, like I'm just crossing, it's fine. And she tries to pull the I work at City Hall, and he does not care. And he's like, Good, it'll be convenient for you to pay the ticket, you know. And I still I thought that was I thought that actually worked. I thought it was I thought it was decent, you know. I I I I thought it I thought that meat cute landed.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So would you would you get that uh high, middle, or lower shelf on that one?
SPEAKER_00On the meat cute, I'd probably just give it middle shelf.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it was pretty decent.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I mean it was okay.
SPEAKER_01It it was it was cute.
SPEAKER_00It was better than not great. Yeah, it wasn't like the best meat cute we've seen, but I think it worked in that situation, and I think it was you know, it it was okay.
Favorite Scenes And Small Wins
SPEAKER_01All right, well, let's move on to favorite scenes. What do you have for your first well?
SPEAKER_00This is gonna be kind of a quick segment. Um I tried to pick out parts that I, you know, I it was hard. I kind of liked so when Allie and Ryan are trying to figure out who could possibly put the piano there and they go on like an investigative search. They go to a couple people's houses, yeah and and you know, interrogate them, which I thought was kind of fun, kind of cute. I you they talk to Monica and Julia, the the grandmother who's you know, so and Monica I think is just one of the one of the townspeople. She's like the ballet teacher, I think.
SPEAKER_01Right, right.
SPEAKER_00So they're wondering if she did it, and then Julia's been around in the town forever, and you know, she wants people to slow down, and so um, and they have no idea. So I thought the investigation part, I thought that that was kind of cute. I don't think I don't feel like it was fleshed out totally, but I thought that that was kind of cute.
SPEAKER_01And don't forget Dex, her ex-boyfriend, who also music store.
SPEAKER_00Right. Did they go and talk to him? Yes, they went and talked to him as well.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00Allie's ex-boyfriend, but kind of her current boyfriend, but they were still working that that was a weird thing too.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I wasn't totally on board with that.
SPEAKER_01It was a little It was kind of just thrown in there a little bit. Yes. I don't know.
SPEAKER_00Yes. So what about you? Any favorite scenes? Um I think I have one other one after you.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. It was kind of hard, but uh I kind of enjoyed the construction worker playing the piano when they first when they were first when they first showed up, when the first piano showed up, um Allie had this company come out to to move it. And that's when Ryan was like, no, we can't do it. There's an investigation. It's a crime scene. It's a crime scene, right?
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So, you know, Allie's kind of like, okay, but we need to get this done today. And while they were talking, one of the construction workers decides to sit sit down and play when the saints go marching in. And I thought it was I thought it was kind of a cute little scene, you know. Yeah. I mean, it kind of made the scene. And just just to sit there and play that particular song, I thought it was kind of cool. Because you know, it's it's one of those songs that uh everybody knows, everybody knows how to get into.
SPEAKER_00And yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01So that that that was one of my favorite scenes.
SPEAKER_00I I liked um then they they have uh Allie and Ryan have a stakeout in the car to see if someone's gonna put a new piano in the gazebo, like they're real they're gonna catch the person, you know, and then they have this sort of cute banter in the car, and it's when she kind of says uh uh uh I I'm not even gonna say it right, a ne'er duel, right? A ne'er duel, outlaw, scoundrel. And he's like, What is this? The 1800s? Like the 1800s called and they want their words back. I thought that was kind of cute. Yeah, yeah, the little banter that yeah, they have, and then of course they miss the piano, right?
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00Isn't that when they miss it being dropped off?
SPEAKER_01Or I I can't understand how you can miss a truck. Well, they fell asleep.
SPEAKER_00They fell asleep.
SPEAKER_01I understand, but you know me. I but you're like sleep outside in the back of a truck.
SPEAKER_00Right. Well, I mean, I could sleep through it truck. If we're being totally honest, I could sleep through it. You would not, I would.
SPEAKER_01And wouldn't it make a lot of noise when you were rolling it up to the gazebo? I mean, I wouldn't.
SPEAKER_00I would say I that's why I just feel like I don't know. I don't know.
SPEAKER_01And when they were in the truck and the camera panned to the gazebo, it was not even maybe 15 yards away.
SPEAKER_00Right. Well, that's true. That's true.
SPEAKER_01But hey, we'll get it. They're hard sleepers.
SPEAKER_00I did like, I did like when the one kid, I guess it was the, I think it maybe it was the football player, Sam. He plays the um, did you know do you know what it's called? It's dunana you said it the other day. It's called the entertainer. Yeah, that's right. And I only know that because, as I said, I took piano lessons. I could not play that to save my life, but my sister was very good at playing that. It's called the entertainer. I'm like, I recognize that. I know that. That's the one that a lot of people learn how to play. So yeah. I thought that was kind of cute. But that was and he plays and then a crowd gathers around while he's playing it.
SPEAKER_01So every time somebody plays, a crowd comes out of nowhere.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Off of the side, the crowd shows up.
SPEAKER_01No one ever goes into town square until somebody plays the piano.
SPEAKER_00Right, right. So I mean, that's pretty much all I had for favorite scenes. How about you?
SPEAKER_01Um, my last one was when they went desk shopping for Ryan's apartment.
SPEAKER_00Oh, that was kind of cute. Well, and then they ended up going like full apartment shopping for him.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I know, and it's kind of it kind of I can kind of relate to it because you see something, you go, Oh, yeah, that's that's that's nice. And then you see the price tag and you go, Yeah, not that nice.
SPEAKER_00That's not gonna work. Yeah. You know, and that's what he did. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And then it goes into they have this crate that they're filling up with different items. And I just thought it was cute that she would put something in and he would look at it and take it out, but then it made itself back in, it made its way back into the crate.
SPEAKER_00So I just thought that was a kind of it was cute, and then they end up going to his apartment, right? Or wherever he's staying, or house, and they put the things up, like the the wasn't there a picture of two birds or something, and they ended up putting that up. I thought that was yeah, and a lighthouse, I think was.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so it was a cute scene. So you have any more?
SPEAKER_00Um, no. That was it.
SPEAKER_01Do you want to move on to cheers?
Cheers Jeers And Final Cork Rating
SPEAKER_00Let's do cheers and cheers. And of course they figure they find out who was do who was putting the piano in the gazebo, and like you said, that's sort of where the um moral of the story comes in about people slowing down, gathering together, taking the moment to enjoy the music and the sounds, and then they're gonna get a a weatherproof piano for the gazebo, and yeah, it's right. Yeah. So, all right. So biggest cheers.
SPEAKER_01Um, you know, I did enjoy the theme of the the movie. I thought that was pretty cool, you know. Slow down, talk to your neighbors. Talk to the community, enjoy the music.
SPEAKER_00Well, we are we do live at a fast pace. We're always on our phones. I mean, I know we're guilty too. And it is, you know, you want to put it down every once in a while and actually look at somebody when they're talking to you instead of, you know, answering while you're looking at your phone or whatever.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So that's about it for mine. What about that? That's about it for you.
SPEAKER_00I um the biggest cheer for me would be Lacey. I actually, like I said earlier, I thought she she was actually really good in this. She was. I I just feel like I don't know if it's, you know, if the story just didn't land or I I don't I don't even know really what it was. It just didn't come together totally for me.
SPEAKER_01And I I can't tell you either what it was.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's just it's just one of those things. And it wasn't, it wasn't like you've said, the story itself wasn't a bad story, you know. Like I feel like the, you know, the meat is there. It's just, you know, it needed more. It needed more. It was something that was missing. And um, so yeah, but I I thought I thought she was great. I thought she was a ray of sunshine. I actually thought she played the role of Allie really well. Um, so that would be my biggest cheer.
SPEAKER_01I mean, I thought the supporting cast did well too.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah. They're okay.
SPEAKER_01I enjoy I enjoyed the uh the the who was she? The um the was it Teresa? Who was the uh police officer? I can't remember her name.
SPEAKER_00Sarge um Beth Beth. Beth, yeah. Oh yeah, she was actually kind of Kendall Cross, yeah. She was good. She was good.
SPEAKER_01I enjoyed it. Beth, aka Sarge and Teresa, Stephanie Palaton. How do you pronounce that?
SPEAKER_00I don't know.
SPEAKER_01Petal Petalano.
SPEAKER_00I'm not looking at it right now, are you? Yeah.
SPEAKER_01But um, so yeah, that's about it for me for cheers, though.
SPEAKER_00All right. Stephanie Petalano, maybe Petalano. She was Teresa, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So what about Jeers? Do you have any?
SPEAKER_00Oh gosh. Um, I I I dislike the corny, quirky music wherever it shows up, whenever it shows up. And it showed up several times in this movie. I don't like it. I don't think Hallmark needs it. I think it can be more cinematic. I just I just feel like it may and then it lends itself to being corny, right? You know, or too quirky. And I just I don't like that. I already mentioned the cameras. I mean, yeah, while they're walking around the town, they're like, oh look, this camera can see. And they're like, oh no, there's a tree in the way. And I'm like, is that the only, you know, in anyhow, so yeah. So I mean, I didn't like that. I I really didn't enjoy, I I understood where they were going. So you have this kid who likes to play the piano. We talked about him earlier, right? Sam. Sam.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And you know, he doesn't play piano anymore because he's a football player, you know. And his dad wanted him to play a football player. And I just think that's sort of been done.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_00And I know, I know it still can be an issue. And it was like, I really want to play the piano, but my dad is making me play football. I mean, it's not what he said, but it was just sort of, I don't know, it's very after school special to me instead of Hallmark. And and I understand the message, and it is an important message. And then, you know, it come come to find out that dad was supportive of him. He was just afraid to tell his dad what he really wanted to do because he communication, communication is key, right? And then his dad ended up being cool, but I just felt like that was too forced. It's been done before, it was too, you know, like I said, after school special. I didn't, I just didn't think that that was very well done. I did not enjoy that part of the storyline. I just think they didn't need it or it should have been done differently. How? I don't know. I just felt like it was too yeah. What about you? Jeers?
SPEAKER_01J just them in the back of the truck on a stakeout and not hearing a car or a truck offloading a huge piano and rolling it up to the gazebo. And I mean, I don't know. That was that was just my biggest year.
SPEAKER_00But well, you know, sometimes they hit, sometimes they don't. Yeah. And I mean, it is what it is. We appreciate the movie making magic in general. SPEAKER_00So, all right. So, out of five corks, how many would you give it?
SPEAKER_01Um, two seven five. What do you give it?
SPEAKER_00I'm in between a two and a half and a two seven five. I guess I gotta choose.
