It was an ordinary Thursday night. There wasn't any conference. There was no hospital event. I was invited by a financial advisor to do a book signing for physicians. I was expecting maybe 20 or 30 doctors, but when I walked into the venue, I saw something that was anything but ordinary. The room was packed with over 200 doctors.

How did the financial advisor do this? That is what I'd like to talk about in today's episode.

Welcome

Welcome to the Engaging Doctors Podcast. If you are a financial advisor who wants to accelerate your business growth by working with more doctors, you are in the right place.

I'm Dr. Vicki Rackner, your host. I'm a retired surgeon who has spent the past 15 years helping financial advisors crack the physician code and reach the doctors who want and need their help.

The Power of a Medical Dream Team

So let's kick it off with this story. A financial advisor had invited me to get on a plane and fly to his city to do a book signing for his doctor prospects and clients. Based on my experience, I was expecting 20 or 30 doctors. However, I was shocked to see that there were over 200 doctors there. This financial advisor didn't offer a free dinner or CME. So how did he do this?

Well, he had built what I call a Medical Dream Team—a team of other professionals who play a role with wealth building. He had collaborated with a doctor-friendly CPA, estate attorney, lawyer who specialized in contract reviews, and even a website designer for doctors.

All of his Medical Team players had a list of doctor clients. They all invited their doctor clients, and they had built excitement around this event. The result was true synergy: one plus one plus one equals ten.

All of the members of the Medical Dream Team had a list of doctors. They all wanted their practices to grow and all participated in the spirit of collaboration.

Why a Medical Dream Team Works

Patients with serious medical conditions often travel thousands of miles to institutions like the Mayo Clinic. Why? Because these centers offer more than just expertise. They provide collaborative care from a coordinated team of top-tier specialists.

If you're a financial advisor who serves doctors, the same principles apply. Wealth-building is a team sport, and your physician clients are best served when you—their trusted advisor—build a team of vetted experts who understand doctors and work together to optimize the doctor's financial, professional, and personal lives.

The Real Win

But here's the real win—creating a Medical Dream Team benefits you as much as it benefits your clients.

Why a Medical Dream Team Matters

First, doctors are trained to trust teams. A doctor in clinical practice will often consult with multiple experts to take care of the patient. Doctors appreciate collaboration. They understand how collaboration with vetted professionals can help them get better outcomes.

Second, it reduces overwhelm and decision fatigue. Doctors really don't want to interview five CPAs or vet real estate agents. Your curated team saves them time and positions you as a high-value resource, not just a portfolio manager.

Third, you elevate your brand. Instead of just being another advisor, you become the go-to connector. You become the architect of a community. You're offering a service akin to the Mayo Clinic. Maybe you want to call it The Mayo Clinic of Money. You deliver well-orchestrated, coordinated experiences for your doctors.

Tips to Build and Leverage Your Team

  1. Audit your current network
Whom do you already trust and refer to? Are they doctor-friendly, responsive, and respectful of busy schedules?

  2. Interview new experts for fit
Ensure they can communicate clearly, handle physician-specific needs, and appreciate the nuances of the medical world.

  3. Brand your team
Create a Medical Dream Team resource—a PDF, onboarding handout, or webpage. Share it with your clients, and have your team members do the same.

  4. Facilitate collaboration
Encourage Dream Team members to share updates and coordinate strategies when needed.

This is not about being the smartest person in the room. It's about assembling the smartest room.

As a bonus, below you will find a link to download your Medical Dream Team checklist. Encourage your doctor clients to check off team members they already have and identify those they need. It’s a great conversation starter and a tangible way to demonstrate your proactive value.

Final Thought

When a doctor trusts you with their money, they're not just hiring a financial technician—they're seeking peace of mind.

The best way to deliver that? Act like the Mayo Clinic of Money. Build a team of trusted, vetted professionals who will surround your doctor clients with expertise, empathy, and execution.

Your Next Steps

  1. Audit your current network
Who are your strong Medical Dream Team players?

  2. Identify gaps
What kinds of services do doctors frequently inquire about? That’s the best way to get started.

  3. Enroll your Dream Team members in the Cracking the Physician Code course
This is like medical marketing school—the foundational knowledge needed to build trust and business with physicians.
