Hello and welcome to this week's episode they've been doing all day. It's not the cowboys that have had a nightmare. I've had an absolute stinker too. Let's get stuck in.
SPEAKER_01Yes, you have. Would you like to divulge and let the audience know what you've done to our home, our equipment, our studio?
SPEAKER_02There's a reason why we're online, and it is 100% my fault. Um was moving some stuff around in the garage and felt my foot catch one of the cables connected to the camera, and I thought, ah, it's only come out, it'll be alright. And then went to set up earlier on, and the uh actual wires have ripped out of the camera connector. So with no plan B, we well, no plan B for any cables. We thought we'd yeah, jump online and and do it this way. So yeah, we had to improvise. So that's why we are online with our amazing backgrounds. Obviously, Ricky in the background, and you got the Accord, I think it is, isn't it?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, Origin one, Origin One, big uh Nathan, Nathan Cleary, uh and Teddy. Um, I think it was because we were sick, I think, quite quickly, quite close after, weren't we?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it was. It was uh that week of illness. I'm pretty sure it was the the uh emotional roller coaster of being at the accord and then and then coming back is what is what done it. But how's the week been? How did the did the girls play this weekend? Now they get on.
SPEAKER_01We did. We did we uh we lost 22-16.
SPEAKER_02Um against Finals Footy or not finals footy?
SPEAKER_01No, no, not finals, leading into finals. So we're we lost to Pennant Hills, who were our fourth, and then we're playing Leichart who are third. Um if we beat Lycart at the weekend, we will finish second. So if we then beat Mascot, we were in straight into the grand final. Whereas if we lose to Lycart, which isn't happening, uh we'll probably drop down into either third or fourth, and then we have to win three games to win the comp essentially, because it's uh winner of three, four will play loser of one, two, and then you then grand final.
SPEAKER_02So uh loser's not an option from here on out, then that's what it is. If you've experienced your final loss of the season, and that's it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I've I've had too many final losses in Australia, and I'm I'm not doing it any I'm not doing it in uh in my first first rodeo with uh with League. But no, it was it was a shame. We we worked on some nice uh timing off the the halves on training, and I thought it really paid off because the the first really attacking set, uh, which we were putting together, brilliant inside ball um to one of our front rowers off the half. Like she broke through the line brilliantly, and then a couple of plays later we we ended up we ended up scoring. Um but it was just we I'd line speed let us down a little bit in defence. Um there are teams, so both Lycart and Pennett Hills are a team that like to shift the ball, and if you give them the time to, they've got the they've got the speed outside to to hurt you if you do so. Um and unfortunately, we did a couple on a couple of occasions. Um referee wasn't the best, but I don't like to I don't like to be able to do that. Bad workman always loses his tools or whatever. Yeah, exactly. Um but look, it was we always bounce back after these sort of performances. So hopefully going into the weekend, it's a it's a family fun day down at Ferret's as well on on the Sunday.
SPEAKER_02So Sunday, I'm in I'm in Melbourne until Saturday, so I might swing along actually on Sunday.
SPEAKER_01Bring the family down, there's a bouncy castle and everything. Um so see so yeah, there's there's sixteens, eighteens, us, and then the the men's gold as well. So big, big day on on Sunday. So hopefully with uh if you're in the area, if you're in the local area, get down.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, on the hill, on the hill, green and green and white. We're gonna we're gonna bring the win home.
SPEAKER_02Indeed. But let's get into uh this weekend's or last weekend's NRL fixtures. Thought I'd take a slightly different, we take a slightly different approach to this one. So obviously, Thursday night kicked off, and we're thinking, great, Roosters store uh Roosters store, Roosters Cowboys gonna be a great fixture. Um and it was probably one of the most one-sided games I've ever seen in my life.
SPEAKER_01I I in a lot of sports as well. I've never seen every time the the Roosters attacked, they just looked like they were gonna score. And and I think they virtually did. It was it was absolutely shambolic by the Cowboys. I can't believe the team who are who have had who've hit a bit of form coming into this part half of the city, this part of the season, end up with a performance like that.
SPEAKER_02It's absolutely nuts. So one of the things that I wanted to look at was the biggest margins of victory in the NRL. So I was like, I started looking. Obviously, there's a one that got referenced uh quite a lot on the night, which was the uh St George 91 against they beat Canterbury 91-6 in 1935. So, what's that? A significant amount of years ago, nearly 100 years ago, and 85 points, and then there's Eastern Suburbs one by 80 points against Canterbury, so it seems like Canterbury on the end of a small shellackens. And then the most recent one, which happened it um happened up in Townsville. Two, it was it was the Cowboys that did it, they beat the Tigers 74-il. That then got me thinking, what do you think's worse? Losing 74-0, so not not scoring a point, or losing by the margin of what they did but scoring, so losing by 70 and scoring.
SPEAKER_01Ah, I reckon it's the it's having the the donut next year. You you you know from we know from American football how humiliating having not just the team putting a 50 burger on you, but also keeping you to a donut. Um, it's the absolute ultimate humiliation. And as we've said in previous episodes, that there's so many opportunities to score within this point, for not to just get a golden point just to get yourself off that zero, what a little field goal or something to get yourself off that zero. Um, yeah, it's I reckon it is is that what are you leaning towards?
SPEAKER_02I reckon, yeah, not scoring a point is more embarrassing than like being beaten, getting 80 stuck on you, like 80 and think about this as well. Like in the modern game, what does it take to score 80 points? Like, what what happened to the Cowboys? Like, how can you just I don't know, did do you think they just gave up and were like, uh nah, just we'll rest ourselves for next week.
SPEAKER_01Well, I don't know, because they they had a little bit of fight about them. They're virtually straight away as well, didn't they? Um they came back virtually straight away. I was like, here we go, this is gonna be a good I've got I've got this pick so wrong. Um, I think this is the only one I got wrong on the weekend, um, which is a bit frustrating. But um yeah, yeah, you look at it as a team of that wanting to to go deep into the finals to to concede points in the manner that yeah, they did like look, you can't take it away from the roosters. The roosters were fantastic. Um, White was incredible up front. Uh Sam Walker had the ball on an absolute string. Um, and even losing Teddy didn't really pretty good as well. Yeah, yeah, and and even losing Teddy didn't bother them. Um, so they're they're clicking, they're starting to move at the right time. But the the really frustrating thing is is what the commentators were saying, is what we've been saying as well. They've limped through games, they've limped into these performances, and they've been getting the wins by just getting there, and we'll then go and put that performance in. Like that's a that's a premiership winning performance right there.
SPEAKER_02We'll touch on it a bit later around like who's contenders, who's pretenders when we have a look at the ladder and see kind of where everyone is compared to our pre-season predictions. But in the modern game, another question what do you think is harder to do? Score 80 plus points like the Roosters did, or concede zero?
SPEAKER_01Um, I I reckon it's score the 80 because it could like not conceding has happened, and we have seen it on the side.
SPEAKER_02The Tigers did it the other week, didn't they? Actually, I think they lost what was it 66 million.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think the bull bulldogs, yes. Uh the I think the sharks did it to someone. Was that it as well? I think they didn't do it to the dolphins. Um so we we see that on a regular occurrence, whereas the points you don't really see past the 70 mark or really the 60 mark, where it this they I thought they were gonna get to a ton, like they they look like and they could probably have got to a ton quite comfortably as well.
SPEAKER_02Um in a 90 game, I've sort of said when we've got 10 after six minutes, like what's the what's the what's the record? Are we gonna hit 100? But it never materializes. But I genuinely thought we were gonna see it in this one.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and uh you can't even blame any goal kicking in this one either.
SPEAKER_02Nah, you can't. I suppose the biggest the biggest thing from this one as well, like what does it do to the cowboys? Because they were they were looking good, like the cowboys are looking decent, like Tommy Deer then come in, coming back. Like you were thinking, hang on, they're in the chance here, and then all of a sudden they just get absolutely picked apart.
SPEAKER_01This this does sort of knock you for six, really, doesn't it? It it it they're gonna have to I I don't know, being in that dressing room going, we've just conceded 80 odd points, lads. Um what what where did where do we sort of go from there? Uh being in teams as as we've all discussed in myself where we've shipped points, I know exactly what it's like, but there's one or two ways they can either sit and dwell on it or they went out after the game on Thursday, got the beers, got over themselves, pulled back together, and they're gonna be uh they're gonna put in an absolute barnstorm of performance in the next game.
SPEAKER_02Um they're playing, they're playing Thursday, aren't they? So um it'll be interesting to see how they bounce back. They're playing against the Titans, which is not the worst, but not the best opposition to be having uh having a bounce back against.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, banana skin, banana skin for them.
SPEAKER_02Absolute banana skin. But some of the I was also led me to look what in other sports are the biggest margins of victory from around the world, and the first one that pops up is absolutely wild. So in football or soccer as it's referenced, AS Adema from Madagascar against someone who I can't pronounce 149 nil. But the deliberate team, the sorry, the losing team would deliberately scored 149 own goals in protest after a referee indecision. Must have been like an early penalty given away or something to be scored 149 goals. And then I think the next one that's actually legitimate, like the highest score, was good old Australia beating American Samoa 31-nil, which is crazy. Archie Thompson scored a record 13 goals. That is crackers. But what are some of the other ones on that stick out on this list? Joe Nolomu absolutely carving it up against New Zealand, against Japan for New Zealand, 145-17. Chicago Bears 73-0 against the Washington, whatever they were called.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Won't say that. 73-0. Uh and then the largest AFL victory was 214 points, and that was Geelong 239, defeating the Brisbane Bears 25. That is an absolute pacing score. We were out for your birthday, weren't we? And we were watching it was the Swans against someone. And like, I swear the Swans were up like 81-6 at half time. Then the Bears took over, and I can't remember what happened after that. But yeah, some some big old scores in there. Um, some large, large margins of victory. But other than that, like I don't know about you. I feel like this weekend in the it was a bit of a bit of a just the weekend happened, and that that was it, really. Like in terms of results. Nothing else really stood out. I mean, Dolphins, edge, edge one over the dragons. What is it?
SPEAKER_01I think there is a game, there is a game that does stick out, but I think it's for the wrong reasons. The uh Eels, Eels, Tigers game. I was listening to this.
SPEAKER_02I I turned off the last like 20 minutes, I didn't even bother watching it.
SPEAKER_01I was driving back back from the wonders of Cherry Brook on uh on Sunday, listening to it on the radio, and oh bless the commentators, they were trying to they were trying to make it good, and they were absolutely ripping into some of them as well. I don't know when about it's in the game, but I think Adam Dewey all he had to do was ship it out to the winger, and I think they were in, but he passed it.
SPEAKER_02He threw it literally over his head, and I think it was Taruva, wasn't it? That was on the wing, and he just it was terrible.
SPEAKER_01Ends up five rows into the stand or something like that, and I was like, Oh gosh, yeah, they they they try to the main and also this I was I wanted to mention it. I have to give so much respect for rugby league commentators because there is to be able to describe the game and talk about the game with so much going on on the radio, it was it was on the radio, it was brilliant. Like I I could I could actually picture the game going as it as as they were talking, so I have to give give credit to that.
SPEAKER_02Randomly, did you see who did we last play at home? Who did Manly last play at home? Obviously, we stormed out early. Who was it? Ah, sharks. We'll get on to them in a minute. Nico Heinz on absolute streak, but um there was a blind guy that turned up to the Manly game, and I said I said to the guy that sits next to us, I was like, How does he know what's going on? And obviously, he must have someone next to him that just talks the game through to him. Yeah, he might have been able to see a little bit, but I was just like, that's intriguing. But you'd come for the atmosphere. Like, I I was thinking that like, and random how we've got onto this when we're talking about radio, but just that feel of the crowd, the atmosphere. I wonder if he could sense that everyone was leaving after like 15 minutes. Yeah, hang on. Why is it quiet around me? Why are there empty seats? I can hear I can hear plastic slamming up against the back. Absolutely crazy. But yeah, what happened? I didn't see the last 15 minutes, but I heard the eels just snatched it from the jaws of your feet.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, uh the well, the tigers were just absolutely harming them. Eels weren't getting eight out of their half. Um, but then the tigers just didn't capitalize, and the eels just went and scored a couple of tries. So it it was uh it wasn't the best. It was like you said in the predictions, this is one for the purists, and by God, it it it very much wasn't. And considering where we both sort of were, I thought they would finish these two in the in the ladder. God, how the uh how the mighty have fallen in that regard.
SPEAKER_02They have, and talking mighty have fallen, like I thought the Broncos stood a chance against the Knights, but it just seems without Dylan Brown, um Caleb Ponger was absolutely on one though. Like the emotions that he showed in the game, he was everyone was up for it. Like we talk about it, Dom Young, Marju, uh Dane Gagay was obviously off to the Broncos next year. They were just bang up for beating them, and that's it. Broncos done finally, mathematically, they're out, they're gone.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I was I was really impressed with this game. I know I mentioned last week it depending on where the knights were going to finish in the eighth, depending on how they they are without the light, but watching this performance, like but Calen Pong who turns into almost the third half on on during the game. Like he is he he he sort of rotates, he swings between the left and the right and attackers a fullback rightly should. But the amount of times he's first receiver and he's creating this space and he's creating those passes, and then you've got um Sandon Smith and and Fletcher Sharp who are who are playmakers in their own right, it it is one deadly attack.
SPEAKER_02Um was your thoughts on the Reese Walsh bin in?
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah, 100%. But don't he he knew he knew exactly what he was doing? It's one of those that in the game on a Sunday you could probably get away with, but when there's 40 cameras zoomed in on the one incident, you're not gonna get away with it. And he knew exactly what he was doing. Um and it's the same with McHughan. I liked him. I was I was trying to uh figure out who he came in there as a placement of Lucas again. A little bit of uh I think naivety in into the in the NRL flying in and when there was no need, and hence why he ended up very going in. Um but he he looked he looked aggressive um and not a bad bad replacement for Dylan Lucas.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's it'd be interesting to see how they go. Um and if they can maintain that because it might just be like that one game bounce of right, we've got to step up because the boys ain't near. But let's see how much it impacts them over time, especially going into finals. But a team that just continued to keep marching on, the miracle in Mudgy didn't happen this time. The Penrith Panthers just absolutely they did they towel up the Raiders? I think they did. I think like it started out leaky, um, Panthers, and then they just took over, and it looked like they were just gonna steamroll them. Raiders came back a bit, and you thought, oh, here we go, a bit of a fight back. But Panthers are just on another level, like it feels like they're just on cruise control, and uh and uh they they really did, and and Liam Martin has made a massive difference.
SPEAKER_01He had a he had a brilliant game, he got he he loves getting into it, he got absolutely leveled. Like, to be fair, when he took that carry for the penalty. Um, but I I I think it's incredible. But I I bang on about it all the time, and we we've had our conversations about poor goal kicking for but clearly's goal kicking in this game, like seven out of seven. I I think everyone went over the black dot. It was just pinpoint. There was never ever any any in doubt. Uh love how he's getting a bit of free marketing now for his sales for it for his kicking tee. He's he's uh up there for thinking, uh sort of sort of lad. You know, he's he's he's gonna get free marketing every every week on that thing. Um, but yeah, the the Raiders, I I thought they were gonna have a bit more in them um than they did. And for the first five, ten minutes it I thought it could end up being a bit of a tennis match, but the Panthers quality just clicked and they did absolutely just run away with it.
SPEAKER_02And if they scrap if the Rapers Rapers, whoops, if the Raiders scrape in, then I think it will be a tough job for them to uh mount any charge. I think it might be like last year where they probably out first round or within the first two. But talking about kicking, talking about perfection, look, we've had it, we've been critics of this man before, but Nico Hines is on an absolute run. 32 in on the bounce, he's three away from the record. Who have they got this weekend? It is the where are they? Oh, they're against the dragons last game of the weekend. He's gonna have an absolute audience to see if he can get because the sharks have definitely scored three or more tries in this, so be interesting to see how he goes.
SPEAKER_01But these are I'm telling you, sharks are sharks are out there, and and and it's not just Nico Heinz, uh Braden Trindle as well. Uh like that them them together have have been absolutely fantastic. Um and and we we we have said it like how much the the sharks do hinge on Heinz's performances, and this last few like five, six weeks, probably since Origin, if we can say so going into about two months now, worth of performances, he has really shown up. Um he's put in the quality that I suppose a lot of people think uh know he has, knows, knows he has, and it's really starting to come alight. And just the partnership with Trindle as well, they've they've been absolutely ripping teams up.
SPEAKER_02It's if they can keep it going for the next, like like you say, last five, six weeks, if they can keep it going for the next five or six weeks. But them and the last team that we're going to talk about as well in these little round of fixtures, the Warriors. I thought they looked like they could be on a bit of a downturn. Okay, it's only the Titans, but they're sticking around, they're not, they're not fading off. Their um current form is three and one over the last four, same as the Panthers. Like, I still think they were in within a shout, but we'll see how they go this weekend. But let's have a look at the table and go through kind of some of our pre-season predictions and see who we've got horrendously wrong up until this point. And I think one of the ones that sticks out the most is the Brisbane Broncos. Like, if people predict predicted that they would be out of the finals race with what is it, four, five, five rounds to go, you'd be mad. But I had them coming in third, and what are they currently sitting now? They're in what fifteenth?
SPEAKER_01That is yeah. I I had I had way I had them winning the minor prem.
SPEAKER_02That's nuts.
SPEAKER_00It's crazy.
SPEAKER_02What like the season's been an absolute flop, there's no doubt about it. It's crazy that like the pressure. Well, the pressure probably is odd match, but it's not as high as what it should be, considering what where they're currently at. Some of the ones though, that the tips that also have stood out for me. Where did you put the Newcastle Knights?
SPEAKER_01Last I had them finished in 17th.
SPEAKER_02I also had them finished in 17th. Where are they? They're currently in six, so we both absolutely egg on our face. So that one dragons, I had them sixteenth, and they're currently bottom of the table.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I had them 15th.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, Cowboys. I had them down low and they're currently sitting mid table. Titans, I've got spot on at the moment, so 14th. Rabbit O's are another one, actually. Where did you have them? They're sneaking up the table, and I've got them low down.
SPEAKER_01I had them to finish seventh. So where they are exactly now.
SPEAKER_02That's decent, decent tipping. Tigers, I had them around. 12th and they're currently currently six. Look at the start of the year, I was looking like I was gonna get it wrong in the other way. Um, but yeah, where did you have them?
SPEAKER_01I had them I had the Tigers 13th, so I thought they'd have a have a have a okay season. And I was because I was I couldn't find my original prediction, so I went through the pug the the the episode we did this and I was listening to us, and I was like, I was like, oh yeah, I can see the Tigers doing quite well if Benji Marshall is able to marshal that that team and and keep them together and he didn't really and he didn't, and look where they are, they're 16th at the moment.
SPEAKER_02Here's one I'm happy with. I said the Raiders would finish 11th, and they are currently 11th, so I'm not too bad at that one. Oh, there we go. I got I got uh I got Manly 10th, who which I got 11 and 10th correct as we speak, but obviously after this weekend we're gonna be a little bit higher after we towel up the storm, who I had in seventh, which isn't too bad. Like they could finish there, they could.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I had them in the five, I had them in the four, I had them in third, which warriors I got wrong.
SPEAKER_02Warriors, I said they'll finish ninth. Um, but well other than the Broncos, I feel like uh and the Eels. I've had an absolute stink with the Eels as well, to be fair. Well there, yeah, Daddy Fur. I think I feel like my top five aren't too bad. Panthers, roosters, obviously Broncos were wrong, dolphins, sharks. I'm not too mad at that. I've done I've I've done alright. I've done alright. Any any of yours stick out from that point? Anyone's in the evil?
SPEAKER_01I think I've got P with the Eels one. I had them ninth. I thought I thought they would just miss out on the eight, um, which by the looks of things they they will do. Um had the Dolphins in at eight, just sneaking in again, could happen, might not happen. Um Roosters, I think, is probably the best one. I think we we both had them finishing second, and looks like that.
SPEAKER_02Then all of a sudden they've just hit. Oh, do you know it pain me? It pained me to see Cherry Evans win that.
SPEAKER_01It's just it's it's it's how the rugby league sporting gods end up happening, isn't it? He won one in his first season, wins it in his last season. It's it's just it's there written, isn't it? Unfortunately. Do you reckon he comes back to Manly under foreign? As a coach, no, he's I thought I was reading somewhere that he's um gonna be mentoring at the Roosters next season after he retires.
SPEAKER_02I reckon he might, because that's the second year of his contract, right? Like they said that the second year might be some form of coaching role or something. I reckon there's an opportunity after that. I reckon what's that, 28? There's a chance that he he could be back on the beaches, depending on uh next year goes before him. But look, it it we seem to be making a few moves in the market. We've got that young second rower, basically homolo mark two for the for the left-hand side of the field, which should be good. Um, we just need to get ourselves a hooker and uh and probably a lock, I reckon.
SPEAKER_01I reckon a front row, and we need, I mean, we need another, we need another big, we need another big body to to join Poseca and Liafi. You never know.
SPEAKER_02Mulali might, I know he hasn't done too well at the storm this year, but you never know. We'll see what happens under let's get stuck into this week's fixtures because where are it is indigenous round. Um we're kicking it off on Thursday night at the C Bus Super Stadium, the Gold Coast Titans at $2.37 against the North Queensland Cowboys $1.59. How are the Cowboys gonna bounce back?
SPEAKER_01Cowboys uh don't think it's about how they need to bounce back. Uh, if they want any chance of finishing in the eight, they need to turn up to this game and put the Titans in the dirt. So I'm gonna go Cowboys.
SPEAKER_02Queensland Arby as well. Um, they've got to they've got to turn up. If they don't, they they're gonna they're gonna drop and they're gonna drop drastically if they lose this game. So I think they will, I think the cowboys will win it as well.
SPEAKER_01And then for the first game on the Friday night, the six o'clock kickoff, we're out it in New Zealand at the Go Media Stadium in Auckland. We've got the Warriors um against the Panthers.
SPEAKER_02What a game. So this this is like almost like a preview of if the Warriors make the top two, what a home final will be like, because I think the atmosphere will be this is gonna be a set out, I reckon, if it isn't already. Um, and it's gonna give the the crowd are gonna be absolutely buzzing. Casey McLean's out, broke his hand. I think I saw um this is a this this one's tough to call, but I'm gonna go. Do you know? I reckon the Warriors get it done at home. I reckon the Warriors cause a little bit of an upset.
SPEAKER_01I think the class of the Panthers gets it done. Uh Warriors haven't looked amazing last three, four weeks, and I think the Panthers get it done.
SPEAKER_02Fair enough. Then we are at the Allianz 8 pm on the Friday. We got the Sydney Roosters at $1.35 against the Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs at $3.30. Roosters. I think they're in devastating form. Um Tedesco's back as well. Not a bad, not a bad one to uh bring back in. Um yeah, roosters, roosters comfortably as well.

SPEAKER_02This is the Perth Bears home track, isn't it? That's why this game's over there, I think, is a little test run for that. We're favourites on paper. Um look, the saviour's back, Brandon Wacom. I think we're gonna have a bit more aggression, a bit more line speed. I reckon we get it done against a weekend storm team.

SPEAKER_02So I read the other day or heard the other day that Stefano Toyokamano is on the market um as of November 1. Like he would be a big body to go after, talking of the storm. It seems like they're all the time, but we must have skipped a load of them during the season.
