Hello and welcome to another episode of They've Been Dood It All Day Day. This week we actually got to rub shoulders with a plate. Let's get stuck in.
SPEAKER_01Yes, we did, and it's the reason why we are recording a little bit later this week on a Thursday because Tuesday night our evening was taken up. What were we doing? Chinning beers and chatting to fuzz. That's what we were doing. We were wondering what we need to do or what you need to do when the girls got down to the goalposts and what was the best point of attack. That's what was happening.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it was. And and it to be fair, he was uh he he he he listened and he talked to to be fair to him, as much as uh he he didn't look like he wanted to run out of the conversation too early, but no, it was really good to to just break down in the sort of a bit of a red zone attack and um what what he what he looks for and what he's and like that was a great thing. I asked him straight away, he's like when you're in the red zone, what are you wanting to see? What are you trying to do? And he went straight away mismatches, numbers, just choose and I was just like, Well, yes, you you you're correct. Um, but no, he he he listened to a little bit. JKT had a chat to us as well. What a what a polite human being. That boy loves it.
SPEAKER_01Told him to rip in against the dolphins and he absolutely loved it, walked away chuckling. But we're uh to explain to people listening, we're at the manly members, what are we, platinum, platinum member, platinum and diamond member um event, which there was some controversy around it to start off with. There was, there was. It was meant to be a breakfast on a Friday morning with what all you can drink coffees, not necessarily and a bacon and egg roll, bit of uproar caused by the uh by the manly faithful. We've um put up with a bit this season, and um yeah, it got changed to a nice little Tuesday night at the Harbor Hotel upstairs. What was it called? Bummies, I think it was called free beers, um, and we took advantage.
SPEAKER_00Oh, fully, you fully took advantage. I I I I was prepping for this. This this was circled in my calendar as soon as I knew it was going to be out, so I booked the day off work the next day, so I could absolutely rip in on the beers, and I I I I think I got a bit more money money back, so I can't argue with that. I didn't book the day off.
SPEAKER_01Um and yeah, I won't say much about the next day, but uh it was good. What what were your overall thoughts of of the event from um what we've experienced so far?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it was it was it was good. I think, like you said, it was a bit it was intimate. Like there was only what you'd say about 60, 70 people there. Max. Um, and like there's 30 players, so it was uh 29. 29 players, yeah. Luke Brooks was there. Luke Brooks wasn't there. That was a bit that was a bit devastating. I wanted to have a chat with him. Um but no, it was it was it was really good. Um I think everyone spoke really well that that decided this this was upfront and speaking. Uh well-run event, decent food, decent beer, like worth the money, I think.
SPEAKER_01Couldn't go wrong. Uh the one thing I was considering was like how do they address the elephant in the room? Um, being the fact we're on a what five-game losing streak. Um I think Jason King at the start said it well, like you ride ride the ups and downs, bit of a roller coaster season, which that it has been. Um, but the players spoke well, and it was who was up on stage? It was Ola Kawatu, Joey Walsh, Jamal Fogerty, yeah, and Ethan Bullimore. Ethan Bullimore. I missed his bit. I think I went to the bar. It didn't sound like he said much. Oh no, I went to the toilet before they came on, but it was good. It was good to hear their thoughts and hear something a bit different to what you hear in the media, bit of a relaxed setting. Um, I felt Foz was a bit on guard though. I don't know.
SPEAKER_00No, no, 100%. There was definitely that. Like, but but I think that's to be expected a little bit, is you you don't know what to expect from these events.
SPEAKER_01I imagine his f his first one as head coach as well.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, I um I I think he may have been expecting to get hammered a bit more. Um because there were there were probably people there ready to to dive in.
SPEAKER_01Well, that geezer that was near us, yeah.
SPEAKER_00He said some flippant comment about well, we bloody deserve it or something. Yeah, so you get people like that at those, but whereas I I just wanted to pick his brain about attack, uh yeah, and so you get to two ends of the spectrum there, I suppose.
SPEAKER_01Um no one's ever gonna rip in and at members of if you're you the people that were there, they're never gonna be the people that I mean. What is he saying? Jason King said something like uh 40% of platinum members have been members for longer than 10 years or something like that. So there was a good core audience of fans. Um, good event, good little gift that we got, a nice little wine glass. Yep. Uh I I hope just next year it's on a Friday night and not a weeknight.
SPEAKER_00A bit of a guilt-free. Yeah, that's the thing, no, just because we we were both like, ah, I don't think I'm gonna do platinum again next year, but then as the as the beer got flowing, and then we were actually reviewing what we got with this membership, we're like, you know what?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, let's do it again. What was the conversation, by the way, that we were having as you got on the bus on the way back? I've been trying to wreck my brain about this. I remember it was something about um depth of ah, I'm never gonna remember. I thought it'd be a great discussion topic, but I'm trying to rack my brains because as you stand, as you stood on the bus, she went, let's talk about it on the pod. I was like, Yeah, that's a great idea. No, can't remember what it is. It's probably that last pint in Brookie Hotel that made us forget.
SPEAKER_00That was definitely it, yeah.

Um, some shocks last week. We're gonna rattle through last week's games because Thursday night, the Panthers and Roosters kick off in 30 minutes. So try and get watching the start of that. Um, but the big one, big, big talking of the Panthers, the big one coming out of last week. Panthers lose yo and they get destroyed by the Warriors as well. Like it was a bit of a humbling.
SPEAKER_00Oh, massively, massively. And and when you reflect and you sit back and you you look at it, you're like, right, what do New Zealand do really well? Can I just point out that I took the Warrior? Yeah, you did, you did. And what do New Zealand do well? And that's really buy into the culture and the Maori. This is a very valid point. And when you sit back and you look at it at the spectacle that they created as well with the hacker beforehand, and you're like, Yeah, that this was probably always going to be on the cards because they would have had that extra boost to being at home, sold out Mount Smart Stadium, yeah, top one versus two or whatever it was, one versus three.
SPEAKER_01Um, had the all the hallmarks of I tell you, I know I'm skipping around words here, but Lekka Halasima was absolutely on one as well. There was question marks earlier in the year as to like, oh, why is he getting moved to centre? And what is it, Adam Pompeii? I can't remember. It's not playing there. You can see why. Like under the high ball, he's an absolute monster. He runs through people, he runs around people. The geezer is devastating. Like one of those breakoff runs where he ran like 50 metres and trucked a couple of people on the way. Um, worrying time is over the Panthers, they've lost Yo and like the announcement of Toto being off as well to PNG. Do you reckon do you reckon they're still top dogs for the you can't you can't dick go away from them?
SPEAKER_00Like he is an integral part, yo, and he he's almost like a third half on the field. Like the way he's ball playing, he's he's incredible. Um look, they the Panthers have that next man up mentality. Um, so I don't think you can go away, but the Warriors definitely put a a bookmark on we're not to be sort of snubbed snugged at. We we we're here to to play with the big boys and we're here to win it.
SPEAKER_01They did, and Lindsay Smith came on and he's starting tonight. Like he's not he's a good player, he's not yo, so they can't expect the same thing out of him. Like, he's not gonna be able to be as creative or draw as many people in, but they've still got weapons all over the park. The only concern is if they lose one more, if they lose another big name, then they they could be in serious trouble. But tonight's a good test for them. Yep, definitely.
SPEAKER_00Roosters are gonna be fired up, but um but again, roosters they just limped over against the bulldogs, so it's it's that scoring 80 one week and then putting in a half-assed performance the next, and it's it's what roosters is gonna turn up, uh, all depending on on what what the what the tip's gonna be. I've just noticed that Dylan Edwards is starting at fullback, and also have you heard that DCE is um going to go?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, which is nuts. Like, there was all the talk around him signing a one-year contract extension. There's obviously conversations going on behind the scenes around um Hugo Savala probably being a bit annoyed, playing out at centre, and then coming back in. But it surprised me that he's gone to gone to England. Like, I know where he lives in North Coco, not like I sound like a stalker or anything, but I've seen him get out and walk into his house, and I've been walking down there. I don't know if I'd trade that for Hull of all places, like at least go Catalan or something, or at least I don't know, south of France is a bit more appealing than you're probably gonna get a nice little pay packet as well to retire out, and then apparently he's gonna be coming back to the roosters after in the coaching role. So that tells me that there was 100% bad blood when he when he left Manley. Uh, but another thing that happened last weekend, Nico Hines steps up for his 33rd consecutive kick only to shank it, shank it and slice it. Um do you reckon he even do you reckon that was the first time he thought about it because there was such hype made about it, or do you reckon it was in the back of his head?
SPEAKER_00It'll always regardless of what players say, it's always there. You're always thinking about it, especially with how much things are highlighted. And I think it just sort of epitomised the sharks' performance as well. Like who was it who scored the first one?
SPEAKER_01Um it was um, yeah, he tried to go back in on the inside to try and make it easier, but only got like two metres in and then had to ground it. I mean, look, it's it would have been a nice record, but I think they would have much preferred a win. A win. This is the thing about the sharks, like you said it all year, they're up and down, up and down, up and down. They went on this amazing run, and you're like, shit, they're gonna they're gonna win the lot here. Um, and then like they lose to the bottom club. I it's a bit inexcusable if you're on a title charge.
SPEAKER_00And they've got a they've got a tough game against the Raiders as well. Later, Raiders aren't a team that are gonna sit back and and and lie down this weekend. So for them to really cement themselves as that as a top four team instead of a top six team, whereas I see them, they they they need to finish this this season, this back end of the season strong.
SPEAKER_01That the the loss might G him on. Gm on and go, do you know what? And who was I listening to the other day? I can't remember what podcast I was listening to, but they were saying how well it might have even been on the radio, on the morning radio, that um it's that sort of loss that makes you realise that errors are creeping into your game and you need that to review and go, hang on, where have we got a bit sloppy? Where have we we strayed away from what we were doing a couple of weeks ago when we were absolutely dominating it? But it came as a surprise that no one expected them to lose.
SPEAKER_00Definitely not.
SPEAKER_01Someone did tip it, and I can't remember who it was because they could just see it coming. But out of the Warriors and Sharks, who do you reckon? I'd say Warriors. Warriors. Um my only concern is they have they have to get a home home draw. If they travel away, if they finish third or fourth, I think they'll then struggle to win it. But if they finish in the top two, which tonight's game could have a significant bearing on. If the Panthers win it, then the that second spot is well and truly up for grabs. Even saying that though, if the Roosters win it, they go closer to the top, and the Panthers could be there for the take-in. So it's a really interesting one to see. But the uh Manly Seagulls, the turmoil continues. I missed the first half of this, and by the way, the WhatsApp group was popping off. I half expected to look at my phone and ask be like 30 nil down to check the phone and go, oh, we're 14-12 up at half time. I was shocked, and I watched the second half. I was like, Oh my god, this is so bad. I think not lucky, but we yeah, it wasn't great. What was it, 28, 30? How many unanswered points was it? Just in fact, it might be 42. 42 unanswered points. That is nuts, and like to think they had no Hughes, they had no Grant. Obviously, all the other players as they got out through injury that they've had all season, it was just toilet, like it was some terrible performances. Um I like it did when that we're with him on Tuesday, it was a bit like, oh fuck, like you've had an absolute stinker, and I'm about to comment on how good your tiramisu is. Like, you know what I mean? Like it's that sort of thing. Like, I'm caught calling out names, but he eats, that's all I know. Um, but his tiramisu is decent. I do have it for breakfast every morning, the overnight tiramisu. I think it was like 20 or like nine miss tackles, 10 miss tackles, maybe even 11. There was some stupid stat that there were some stinkers out there of performances, and it just looked like there was no the biggest thing that pisses me off there's no drive to finish, like everything's just ah they've gone through. Um, but yeah, disappointing loss that against the storm side that aren't that great. Uh it's just rebuild now, right? In it for next year.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's it's you you you've got to look at right, okay. We need to bring in another two two front rowers, I reckon. Um the back line, I'm not too worried about. Uh Falala, full back, bring Turbo down into the centres. You then got Kolo, the other centre, Hoppawatu, one wing. Uh it's then a toss-up between for me, Blake Wilson and Saab. I don't think there's much there's there's gonna there's gonna be a fight for that for that. Saab should be the best.
SPEAKER_01Do you know what? I want to throw another name in the centre mix if Turbo has to stay like Felady ain't weren't. He's a mongrel, yeah. He's he's running, he runs hard, like he hit he runs the ball hard just defensively.
SPEAKER_00He had a good game a couple of weeks ago, but you could even put push him inside and put him into the second row. Like, I don't think that would be the worst worst of the decisions. Young Warriors. But yeah, we've got the young Warriors. Uh so the back line isn't something to worry about. I think we're gonna be okay there. It's our forward pack that that's gonna be the slight issue.
SPEAKER_01And even like David Moale, who's coming from the rabbit hose via the storm, like he's been involved in a team that's had an absolute stink this year, and he hasn't even got many game minutes. Well, he has, but not like a significant amount that you'd thought. Like, you maybe you hope that once he gets under Fozz, Foz might stick a rocket up him. But it is a concern for next year. We were trying to figure out if Taki Aho had another year in him, but I think he's done, his contract's done, and the way he's going with his concrete in business, I'm not sure. And I didn't even recognise him on Tuesday night, how much weight he'd lost. I don't know whether you noticed it, like you can tell he's just been not working out. So I don't know to get yourself then back into shape if you want to sign a contract extension, then yeah, it doesn't look good. But I am concerned about our forward pack next year. You hope like there's some things maybe around the hooker space as well.
SPEAKER_00Well, you you've got you've you've got a second hour out for the rest of the season, yeah. Um you've got Navali coming back, which will be good to see him. I think he does need to get blooded just at the back end of the season, get some minutes into his legs. He's playing the New South Wales Cup this week. Um and you've then you've then working off. We're losing Nathan Brown, um, who is just a does a job, it does it does a job with a body, and it's just it's it's just a little worrying. It is. Um but we'll see what happens in the in the the transform market.
SPEAKER_01So this game tomorrow night at Brookie, it ends 50-40 manly. Yeah, you gotta have some optimism. Although when I make my tip later on, yeah, I don't think I will be having optimism, but um, yeah, full rebuild mode. Um any other big stories that came out of last week? Bulldogs lost no PNG just uh buying the league. Sorry, one thing I was gonna say because I reminded because I looked at the NRL logo on this our indigenous jersey looks pretty sweet. Yeah, it's like it looks class, and to hear Jamal Fogerty speak about how he was contacted prior to joining that was really good actually for it to be designed, and then who was it on the back? I can't remember who like the two totems that were that were put on. It looks like a pretty Swiss show.
SPEAKER_00And they wanted they wanted to save it for the home game as well, so it's played in in the area that it's representing. So yeah, that was quite a cool, cool little segment.
SPEAKER_01What was he saying? There's his totem and then three birds on it that represented.
SPEAKER_00Which he's got tattooed. What did he say that as well? I don't know.
SPEAKER_01So it's all a bit hazy. Yeah, a few too many boulters were flying around. So um, but yeah, not many other stories from last week. Everything else pretty much went as it was meant to, I think. My tipping got let down by Manly, the sharks. And I'm trying to think if there's anyone else I didn't tip. Anyway, tips are out the window this week. But let's get stuck into this week's round. What are we on now? Round 24. Round 24, and we're kicking off in 20 minutes with the Penrith Panthers at $1.48 against the Sydney Roosters, $2.67. What a tasty fixture this could be.
SPEAKER_00I'm gonna go for the Panthers. Bounce back Panthers, um, gonna get gonna get the win.
SPEAKER_01So I've tipped the Panthers, and I don't think I'm gonna have time to change it, but I actually think the Roosters might win this. And the reason why is because I texted you this last week. It wouldn't surprise me if the Panthers go back to back losses and then end up winning the whole competition. So I'm gonna go for the Roosters.
SPEAKER_00Well, I was reading the start as well. Cody Ramsey's lost every game again that he's played against the Panthers, so that's obviously gonna get one of those that's there to be broken. The records are there to be broken. I hear that one, I hear that one. Uh, and then we're at Fospines Park tomorrow for the first kickoff on the on the Friday, six o'clock kickoff. Uh, we've got the Manley Sea Eagles at $3.25 against the Dolphins at $1.35.
SPEAKER_01I'm worried about this one. Um but the Dolphins are unpredictable, right? Like they will stick 60 on a team, then they'll have a stinker the next week. And then get 60 put on them. Then they get 60 put on them, then they'll be 24-nil down. Yeah. And then did the Broncos fall apart or did the Dolphins turn it up? It all depends what Dolphin side turns up, but in fact, I'm gonna take that back. It doesn't matter which Dolphin side turns up. I actually think they win this game, whatever, because of just how sloppy we are. Um, so I'm going for the Dolphins.
SPEAKER_00Um, I don't think the Dolphins have won it for Pines Park. Last three times we played though, we stuck 50 on them. Uh, and I think we're gonna do it again. Come on, the Manley boys, we're gonna take Manley. Yeah, that's not gonna go down well. Turn the oof meter all the way up.
SPEAKER_01You've got to bat the boys, gotta bat the boys, and then Friday night, Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs $1 57, South Sydney, Rabbit O's, $2.41.
SPEAKER_00This is now a good game, especially with the run the Bulldogs have been sort of putting together. I know they lost by two points against the the Roosters. Um, but they They're better. They're they're better.
SPEAKER_01Um Kryan looks alright at six, Burton's playing well at centre, and Lockie Galvin's playing alright.
SPEAKER_00They look they it's a good little combination going there. Um I'm gonna I'm gonna back the I'm gonna back the dogs.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I'm gonna back the dogs as well. Randomly changing subject quickly, you see the news again has started about Jacob Preston potentially to Manley. Where would he where would he fit in though? Like play wherever he wants. Plays wherever he wants, but that that'd be 2027. Yeah. End of next season. But that'd be that'd be a good sign in anyway.
SPEAKER_00It would be. And then we're in the first kickoff on the Saturday, three o'clock kickoff at the Ocean Protect Stadium. Um, we've got the Sharks at a dollar thirty-one against the Raiders at $3.50.
SPEAKER_01Sharks are good at home. Yep. I can't see the Raiders. Raiders were ah, there's that's one thing we could have spoken about. Actually, Corey Horsbrough slapping and Ricky Stewart absolutely losing his uh losing his head about that costing the game when it wasn't that it was many other things that cost him the game. But uh back onto this one sharks, sharks get the revenge.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I think it's gonna be a tight game, but sharks get it, just just limp over at the end.
SPEAKER_01Then Saturday, 5 30, Paramatic Eels, $2.46 against the North North Queensland Cowboys, $1.55. Cowboys, Cowboys, Cowboys. I don't know, you know, like eels just pop up with one every now and then. Cowboys have been been on a bit of form though, so yeah, I'm gonna go with the North Queensland Cowboys.
SPEAKER_00And then to end Super Saturday, great little fixture at the Song Corp Stadium. We've got the Broncos at $2.87 against the Waz at $1.42.
SPEAKER_01Smart Money says Warriors are gonna absolutely batter them, but there's something in me that goes, Do you know what? There's a lot of Warriors fans in Brisbane, they always turn up, they always travel well. There's so many Waz fans that turn up um whenever they're playing, and I think it will hype the Broncos team up to do well. Um saw a stat though that Catoni Staggs over the last six weeks or something like that has been the worst player in the league. Um but I'm gonna go for the Warriors, yeah. I'm gonna go to the Warriors as well. No, I've got to go. That was just a lovely little spill, but uh no, Warriors. I hyped it up like I was gonna pick the Broncos and it was never gonna. Um then Sunday, McDonnell Jones Stadium, Newcastle Knights, who are humming a dollar twenty four against the Gold Coast Titans, four dollars ten. And Dylan Kus who?
SPEAKER_00Like they're Yeah, uh the we we we had this conversation about when they lost um Walker and uh Boat Lucas, who's like, Oh, how are they gonna kick on? And I was like, Do you know what? I I depending on how they play, I will depend on obviously where they finish, and they are looking they're still humming, they're still looking good.
SPEAKER_01They've got so much power, they've got so much size, they just need to get the ball out there, and Calen Pong is just dancing about all over the place.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Um, and I'm gonna go for the nights. Fair enough. Who are you going for?
SPEAKER_01Did I not say in my head? I thought I'd said uh nights, I'm gonna go for the knights as well.
SPEAKER_00There we go. And then we finish on another classic to finish the Sunday. Mods have got tighter since I've last looked at this. Five past four at the Combank Stadium. We've got the Tigers at a dollar ninety-three against the Dragons, which I think this could be for only one of the few times this season they are favourites at a dollar ninety-one.
SPEAKER_01When I looked at this earlier, the dragons were not favourites, the Tigers were oh I reckon the turmoil at the Tigers Dragons. I'm gonna tick the dragons to get this done at Oh, it's at the Combank. It is at the Combank. Interesting, interesting one. Who are you going with?
SPEAKER_00I'm gonna go for the Dragons. I'm gonna I'm gonna write I'm gonna hop on their Dragons bandwagon and they're gonna finish the season straight.
SPEAKER_01You know, I put up um a post on our social media account, one of our Instagram, I think it was, after one of the Manly games, saying Manly aren't gonna win a game for the rest of the season. This was four games ago, maybe three games ago. Yeah. So we've got the Dolphins, which I don't think we're gonna win. We've got the Knights in Newcastle, yeah, which I don't think we're gonna win. Then we've got the Dragons at home. I'm we played the Warriors last game of the season in Auckland, so it all depends on whether they're wrestling players or not. But then we've got the dragons at home. Are we gonna see a victory? Who knows? Who knows? What else is what other sports kicking off? A bit of cricket on today, weren't there? Yeah. Summer cricket is back here in Aussie in Australia.
SPEAKER_00That's the weird thing. It's the it's the the Darwin summer, the the Darwin series or whatever it is, so it's it's quite warm up there. And they got skilled for 198. So they did against Bangladesh, who who I was listening, I was watching it on the way over, and Kerry O'Keefe was making a very good point. Like if Bangladesh cut out the stupid mistakes or started reducing the mistakes, it'd be a very good test team. Um, their bowling attack looks like pretty decent. It's just they're batting. They just did you what I can't remember his name. Uh, I think he he's uh Goof or Hoof Hoof, I can't remember. He it was the Kerry Okef was like he's he's averaging like 35, where he should be he should be averaging 45 just because of the stupid mistakes he makes.
SPEAKER_01So um, yeah, it'd be it's a good little Australia got the old dream line up, in there they've got in the bowling, they've got Lion Cummings, Hazelwood, and Stark.
SPEAKER_00Like I was watching Hazelwood bowl, just line and length, it was absolutely brilliant.
SPEAKER_01Can't go on forever, though. He can't, and they're currently getting to like this is the thing Bangladesh will end up scoring like 300 and some in. Australia will come out in the second inning, score 450, 500 in about 20 over, and then just skittle Bangladesh for like 60. And it's like, oh, here we go again. Anything else to discuss?
