Ep. 2-We Were Meant for More Than Just Working to Pay Bills
The modern work grind has most of us caught in an exhausting cycle of "all gas, no brakes" – working ourselves to the bone just to pay bills and taxes. But what if we were designed for something far greater?
This episode opens with my original song "All Gas, No Brakes," which captures the frustration of trading precious life hours for mere financial survival. Through both music and message, I challenge listeners to reconsider their purpose beyond the 9-to-5 grind and embrace the spiritual calling we all share.
Drawing from powerful scripture like Philippians 4:13 and Galatians 6:9, I offer encouragement for those feeling overwhelmed by life's demands. We're truly in a spiritual battlefield, and keeping our armor of God firmly in place is essential for navigating these challenging times. The devotional reminds us that God's timing is perfect, even when we can't see the way forward: "Don't dare quit before your miracle."
Perhaps most revealing is my personal story about experiencing jealousy at a barbecue restaurant when another musician got an opportunity I wanted. God used this situation to teach me a profound lesson about grace when the very person I envied showed unexpected generosity. It's a powerful reminder that jealousy is "of the evil one" and how God constantly speaks to us if we're willing to listen.
Whether you're feeling stuck in life's daily grind or seeking spiritual encouragement, this episode offers both validation and hope. Remember: Agree with God, Move with God, End with God, Never doubt God. That's what AMEN truly means.
I'm gonna do an original song. It's about uh, you know, we weren't meant to work 50 to 70 hours a week just to pay taxes and to pay all these corporations. We were not meant for that. We were meant to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. And this song is about working way too much. It's called All Gas, no gas, no brakes. I hope you like it. Working all day for my pay, don't know any other way. Cook a plan. But no one wrote this on Playing ours all night.
Speaker 1:Some folks say that it ain't right, but if I wanted your opinion, I would have asked there's no bricks, there's no bricks. Trying to toe that line right, those white lines? There's no bricks. There's no bricks to knock it? Oh, there's no bricks. Oh, there's no breaks tonight. Oh, there's no breaks. Oh there's no breaks.
Speaker 1:Trying to make a dime, taking all my time. Oh, there's no breaks. Oh there's no breaks tonight. I can't see no daylight. I just wanna get home to you. I can't see no end in sight and I don't Know what else to do. All gas, no brakes. All gas, no brakes. All gas, no brakes. Trying to make a dime, taking all my time. All gas, no brakes. All gas, no brakes. And I hear All gas, no brakes, all gas, no brakes, trying to tow that line right, those white lines All gas, no brakes, all gas, no brakes. And I hear I'm trying to tow that line right through those white lines. I'll get no breaks tonight and I can't see no daylight. I just want to get home to you and I can't see no end in sight. Yeah, I don't Know what else to do. Yeah, I don't Know what else to do. I don't know what else to do.
Speaker 1:That was an original song, b-rob. You can find all my stuff at wwwbrobmusiccom. Don't forget to put the E behind the B, that's B-E-R-O-Brob musiccom. Don't forget to put the e behind the b, that's b-e-r-o-b musiccom. I also have a podcast, a podcast. I call it a faith cast, because we talk about faith on the podcast. Hey guys, uh, speaking of that podcast, it's the food for thought podcast and I am your host, b-rob.
Speaker 1:It's a beautiful Friday afternoon, march 28th, and I just want to come to you today and let you know that we are still in the battlefield. So keep that armor on and God is going to take care of us. He will do everything you need. Philippians 4.13. I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me. Just amazing stuff, amazing stuff.
Speaker 1:Just want to say agree with God, move with God, end with God, never doubt God. That's an acronym for the word amen, and that's such a great, beautiful acronym, for sure. Just be the reason someone feels welcome. Be the reason someone feels seen, heard, valued, loved and supported. Be a light in a dark place, as this world is definitely a dark place.
Speaker 1:Little little devotion, for today, god is saying to you today, my beloved, I am your son and shield. I bring light to your path and protection to your soul. I will give you grace for every step and glory for every season. No good thing will I withhold from you as you walk up rightly before me. Trust in my timing, for I am faithful to bless you beyond what you cannot, what you can imagine, beyond what you can imagine. Man, just simply, simply, simply, simply. Great words.
Speaker 1:Um, we know fear is nothing more. It's um of the devil, and that's why we should not fear. We should steadfast in the Lord and pray that his timing and we already know we don't have to pray about that, we already know that his timing is perfect, but we do need to pray. So another verse for today. So let's, let's not get tired of doing what is good At just the right time. We will reap the harvest of blessings if we don't give up, and that's Galatians 6, 9. God already has a plan to pull you out of the place you're in. Don't dare quit before your miracle. Yes, yes, yes. And I don't mean quit your job, that sort of thing, I mean give up on life. It's so easy to do, it's so easy to do, easy to do, it's so easy to do. Like I said earlier, we are in the battlefield on this world. Keep that armor of God on. Keep that armor of God on.
Speaker 1:Deuteronomy 6, 5,. Love the Lord, your God, with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and his will will be done. Amazing, amazing, um, just uh want to say thank you for listening today. Guys, I'm going to keep it short today. It's going to be brief, but I just want to say thank you for listening, just just amazing. I'm going to leave y'all in prayer.
Speaker 1:Heavily, father, thank you for everything you do. Lord, thank you for your grace and your mercy. Thank you for overcoming our sins with the blood of your son, jesus Christ. Lord, thank you for we pray. We just pray for everybody, lord. We pray for the people listening on the podcast. We pray that you guide them, you help them out with any prayer requests they might have. Lord, just pray for them. I pray for them. I pray that you bring abundance and blessings and harvest to their families. I pray for everybody in this world. Lord, I pray for that you just bring blessings, harvest, abundance to everybody. Lord, we pray these names. We pray these things in Jesus name. Lord, amen, that was a really cool acronym for amen, though I thought that was pretty amazing. Let's go do that one more time. It's agree with God, move with God, in with God. Never doubt God. Man, what a time to be alive. What a time to be alive. Oh, I want to tell you a story before I leave. To be alive. Oh, I want to tell you a story before I leave.
Speaker 1:So last Friday night we were me and my wife was at a new barbecue place called Smoke and Barrels, and they're in Evans Georgia and they're very good. If, if you ever slide through Evans Georgia, make sure you stop at the Smoke and Barrel. So I saw a guy that I see quite often. Um, he lives in a neighborhood behind the restaurant. We live in a neighborhood across the street from the restaurant, so I see this guy quite often and um, he, uh, he came in and I heard him talking about how his daughter's playing for the first time at the restaurant. Now, granted, I've already asked them if they want to live music and and I play all over Augusta.
Speaker 1:And when I heard that Evil one slipped in and, say, you know, gave me a little jealousy because I heard that his 15 year old daughter got to play there and I haven't. Well, I turned to my wife and I told her what I you know. I told her that, and um, and you know what God showed me that I was wrong. You know what God showed me, that I was wrong. God showed me that I was wrong because that man, when we went to pay, had already paid for our dinner and, granted, our dinner was 80 bucks, but he paid for it. So God showed me his heart. He showed my heart at the time and my heart was not good at the time, because jealousy is of the evil one, it is not godly at all. It's amazing what happens if you listen, god speaks. That's an amazing thing.
Speaker 1:And, guys, I want to say thank you again for the podcast. Thank you for S4 Construction Services for being our first sponsor. They're located in Lincolnton, georgia.
