The Simple Truth About Happiness As A Daily Choice
Joy doesn’t arrive with perfect circumstances; it starts with a decision before your feet hit the floor. We lean into that simple truth and trace how a gratitude-first mindset reshapes the whole day—from Thanksgiving tables to everyday errands. Along the way, we challenge the myth that success or money guarantees happiness, and we share real talk about why you can be happy poor and miserable rich, happy single and miserable married, happy struggling and miserable succeeding. The difference is the story you tell about your circumstances, not the circumstances themselves.
We ground the conversation in faith, drawing strength from Proverbs 3:5–6 to trust, release control, and walk with purpose. That alignment turns routine moments into chances to bless others: a smile in a waiting room, patience in traffic, silence when gossip starts. We look at entitlement versus gratitude, how one hunts for a destination while the other finds joy where it stands, and why choosing happiness is not denial but disciplined attention to what is true and good. Even a spoiled-milk morning can become a reset when the heart decides early to give thanks.
If you’re ready to stop postponing joy until life is perfect, this is your invitation to pick a better story and live it out loud. Listen, share with a friend who needs encouragement, and tell us one choice you’ll make today to shift your mindset. Hey guys, it's B-Robb. It's the Food for Thought Faithcast. And it is Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving. It's Wednesday, November the 26th. I guess some you call that hump day, whatever. I don't. It's the middle of the week. You know what I'm saying? So keep grinding. Put your grind on. Actually, the holidays tomorrow, so don't keep grinding. So y'all, I hope y'all have a great Thanksgiving and y'all get all the turkeys and the vitlins and the fixins and all that good stuff. I hope it's uh I hope God blesses you and your family. I hope he does it the right way. Because we can't give we can't give none of this, all this glory goes to God. All the glory goes to God. But um I I somebody sent me something last yesterday, and man, it hit me like a sack of potatoes upside my head. It like I don't want to say it's the meaning of life, but it might be the meaning of life. Um it's a little meme somebody sent me. It says, simple truth about happiness. It's a decision, not a destination. And I guess you could say that with any kind of feeling, right? Simple truth about happiness is a decision that you make to be happy. It's not a destination that you're going to. So it's not like, hey, let me wake up, let me um do these rituals, like drink some of this stuff they call brew, which is brewed usually by who, which is yeah, coffee. Um, anyway, you drink your coffee, you eat your breakfast, you don't talk to nobody, you don't say anything, because you look at it as a destination. You don't wake up in that happiness mindset. Every positive day above this earth is a great day. All glory to God. Anytime you are wake up alive with no diseases, no ills, and with a good mindset, it's a decision you made, right? Simple truth about happiness, it's a decision, not a destination. Are we gonna get to happiness by lunch? That's a mindset. That's on you. You're gonna wake up and say, hey, I'm gonna be happy today. I'm not gonna let anything get me down. My milk was spoiled this morning, so I couldn't have milk. I'm not gonna let that determine whether my day is bad or good. Now, there's a lot of people who will end a life over stuff like that. But just so you know, you can be happy being poor, and you can be miserable being rich. Yes, I said that. Let me say that again. You can be happy being poor, but you could be the most miserable person, unhappiest on the planet, just a joy to be around, even if you're rich. A lot of people in my life don't understand that because they've never been rich. And I don't think rich is what they think it is, because I think they think it has to do with money, but I don't think any amount of money can make somebody happy. I think that power resides in the glory of God, right? You can be happy poor or miserable rich, happy single or miserable married, happy struggling or miserable succeeding. Happiness isn't about the circumstance, it's about the story you tell from your circumstance. How about that? So you could have uh somebody that's real poor trying to uh take care of their family, all that good stuff, and still still be happy, not struggling, but you could have all the money in the world and you could hate everything and you could struggle. I pray for people like that. I've been that way before. I've woke up on that side of the bed. It's not a fun one because once you stub your toe one time, you're gonna stub it ten more times before you leave the house. I'd rather be poor, happy, with a good mindset. I'm pretty sure it's almost biblical. We're supposed to wake up every day happy, trusting the Lord with all our heart, and lean not on our own understanding, and always submit to him, and he will make our paths right. That's Proverbs 3, 5, and 6. That's keeping a uh happiness, that decision. You keeping that decision with you at all times to be happy, right? That decision to uh to be a joy. You know what I'm saying? You'd rather walk in a room and be like, yeah, man, what's up, man? Man, I can't stand this crap, man. They got us in here, you know, da da da da da. Gossip. What they call them, cairns. Just miserable about everything, right? Just wake up miserable. Don't even like the mirror, don't like the person in the mirror. Because that's the decision they make. Because happiness is not a decision for them. They're always searching for a destination that they can't find because they didn't make the decision to find it. Does that make sense? I've seen a lot of poor people that were happy. I've seen a lot of rich people that were miserable. I'm fifty years old, I've seen a lot of things. But the day you decide to make a decision instead of a destination, are you gonna be happy? Or are you gonna try to go towards that happy place which we know is not real anyway? Because you have to make that decision to be happy. It's a beautiful day outside. It's in the 70s. Yeah, man, gotta drive to uh Greenwood, South Carolina for a little leaf filter quote in a little while. Hopefully that will uh be a blessing. And I'm gonna choose to walk in there happy. Don't matter what happens to me on the way. I'm gonna smile and show them Jesus. Cause what we talking about. That's Jesus. That decision? That simple truth about happiness. That decision when you wake up, that's Jesus. Because that's the way Jesus walked. Happiness is a decision that you make right then. Every morning when your feet hit the ground. You're gonna be grateful or you're gonna be entitled. Only entitled play, only entitled people have a destination, right? I could be wrong about that, but I think we all kind of have a destination, but as far as the decision versus the destination, as far as being happy, you know what I'm talking about. It's that simple. Simple truth about happiness, it's a decision. It's not a destination. Once you get that in your mind, once you have that mindset, once you have that remedy, you can be happy poor or miserable rich. It does not matter. Happy single, miserable married, happy struggling, or miserable succeeding. Happiness isn't about the circumstances. It's about the story you tell yourself about your circumstances. You're gonna have that poor me, or are you gonna have that attitude of gratitude? It's 100% up to you guys. It's one hundred percent up to you guys. Guys, I love you. And God so loved the world that he gave his only son. You guys know that? John 3 16. You better know it. Guys, it's Thanksgiving. Hope you guys give all the glory and the thanks to the one who deserves it. Whether it be good or bad. He deserves it all. There's power in that name, Jesus of Nazareth. Guys, I love you. My name is B. Rob. I hope you enjoyed the show, and we'll see you next time.
