Man Of God Bible Study Series Part 6- Josep: From Pit To Purpose
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
We trace Joseph’s journey from favored son to slave to second in command, showing how delay can be preparation and how integrity holds when rewards don’t come fast. We share three questions that test faithfulness, temptation, and timing, then close in prayer and point to next steps.
• visible favor and family jealousy in Genesis 37
• dreams that reveal destiny before maturity
• betrayal as relocation into God’s plan
• excellence and trust in Potiphar’s house
• fleeing temptation and facing false accusation
• prison faithfulness without applause
• sudden promotion from prison to palace
• famine, reconciliation, and redeemed purpose
• three self-exam questions on faith, purity, timing
• prayer for discipline, clarity, and endurance

SPEAKER_00Hey guys, it's B Rob. It is the Food for Thought Fake Cast, and I'm your host, and it is a beautiful Tuesday morning, February 10th in the 2026th year of our Lord. So guys, I just got a message, man. That's crazy. It says, stop stressing, you have God. That's simple, man. That simple. I have a I have an issue sometimes. I'd be stressing, I'd be breaking down, I'd be having anxiety like everybody, but you know, that's why I have these little things sent to me. Stop stressing. You have God. That's that's amazing. That's amazing. That is simply something in itself. Well, guys, I hope you're doing good today. We're gonna uh we're gonna get back to the man of God podcast. So welcome back. Um we're gonna walk through scripture in biblical order and um basically in this podcast series we are uh learning what it means to live as men of God, men who fear God and walk in integrity and trust God, obedient to God, even when the life in this world does not make sense. You see, today we're gonna talk about Joseph. And this episode is going to be for any man who has been misunderstood, for any man who's been betrayed by people very close to him, any man who's been faithful but yet forgotten, and any man who wondered why obedience didn't immediately lead to blessing. See, today we're going to talk about Joseph. Joseph's story is a story that teaches us that God's timing is not punishment, it's preparation. You see, it's how am I gonna say this? Sometimes people are called, but they're not ready. We're gonna be looking at Genesis chapter 37 today. In Genesis chapter 37, it basically introduces us to Joseph. Joseph is the eleventh son of Jacob. Jacob had twelve sons total, who would later become the twelve tribes of Israel. How about that? Yeah. Um, once again, we're talking about Israel as people, in heritage, and DNA. You see, not a state. Keep that in mind. Joseph was born to Jacob's beloved wife Rachel, and scripture tells us something important. If you look at verse three in chapter 37, it says, Now Israel loved Joseph more than any of his sons because he had been born to him at an old age. You see, Joseph wasn't an only child. And you see, he referred to him as an Israel. Israel. Once again, keep that in mind. So he wasn't an only child, but he was treated like a favorite. Um Jacob, Israel, um, in quotations, gives Joseph a robe. And it was richly, it had ornaments on it, you know, it was it made him visibly stand out. It was a symbol of authority and favor. And you know, when you're one of twelve, favor doesn't stay secret and it's not light. You see, Joseph had dreams. In Genesis thirty-seven, verse seven, it says, We were binding sheaves of grain out of the field when suddenly my sheaf rose and stood upright, while your sheaths gathered around mine and bowed down to it. Joseph then has another dream: the sun, the moon, and the eleven stars bowing down to him. You see, there's a lot of symbolism in the Bible. You see, those eleven stars represented his brothers. So Joseph, he doesn't know. He's just sharing, he's sharing his dreams. So verse eight says, and think about it, like you got eleven siblings, and you come out and say something like that, yeah. They're gonna be a lot of jealousy, they're gonna be like, he's crazy. Um yeah. So verse eight says they hated him all more because of his dream and what he had said. Like they were mad. But you see, Joseph wasn't wrong, he just didn't understand, he wasn't wrong, but he was just, it was early, like kind of like how I am with uh eight to ten years ago when I started posting about all this stuff that's coming out today. You know, I wanted things to happen then, though I didn't realize it was gonna take this long. But that's another example, man. You always want when you want, and you don't see it working in God's plan until way later down the road, and that's something that you need to think about. You see, men, having vision doesn't mean you're ready to lead people in it. Having vision doesn't mean you are at a point to where people are gonna believe or agree with you or respect you in that matter. You see, God showed Joseph what would happen in the future through his dreams, but he still had to shape Joseph into the man to become what those dreams symbolize. Does that make sense? You see in Genesis thirty-seven, eighteen through twenty-eight, Joseph's brothers plot. They see him coming from a distance. Scripture says they plotted against him. They stripped him of his robe, the very symbol of favoritism from his father, Israel. In verse 24 it says, They took him and threw him in the cistern. The cistern was empty, there was no water in it, no explanation, no warning, no mercy. Then they sell him to traitors headed for Egypt. Think about that. They sell their brother in slavery. They sell him. You see, Joseph is betrayed by the very people that share his own blood. The very people who grew up with him, ate with him, did everything. Think about that. That's a hard pill to swallow. Think about it. You see, here's the hard truth, guys, girls. Sometimes God allows betrayal to happen, suffering, pain, not to destroy you, but to shape you, to move you, to relocate you. You see, Joseph didn't fall into sin. He fell straight into purpose, and it was painful. You know? A lot of people say it's bad luck. But if you believe in God, you shouldn't believe in luck because that's chance and that's witchcraft. You see, you have faith and obedience to God, and in time you will understand. The future proves the past. That's why I say that a lot. Took me a long time to realize what that meant, but I be seeing clearly now. You see what I'm saying? You see, Joseph was sold into slavery in Egypt and placed into a man named Potiphar's house. In Genesis 39, verse 2, the Lord was with Joseph, so he prospered. So let that sink in. He prospered even when he was a slave. Everything he touched, gold. He worked with excellence, integrity, consistently, and obedience to his God, even in slavery. And you see, Potiphar, the head of the household, notices these things. You see, Scripture says everything Joseph touched prospered, and Potiphar placed everything under his care. Trust. You see, guys, girls, ladies, men, God watches how you serve. When no one even owes you respect. God watches what you do. You don't need a trophy. Your trophy's in heaven. Follow what I'm saying. But see, God sends temptations as well to test you. Lessons which can turn into blessings. You see, Potiphar's wife had a liking to Joseph. And repeatedly attempts to lure him. Lust. That sort of thing. Lure him into lust. And it was day after day. And Joseph refused. Day after day. You see, in Genesis 39, verse 9, it says, How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God? I'm going to read that again because I want you to pay attention to the content of the verse, the context. How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God? You see, he doesn't say against the head of the household or the master of the house, the shepherd of that house. He's not worried about sinning against him, the one who enslaves him, the one who would beat him, the one who would bring him towards Pharaoh. You see, Joseph not only turns it down, he runs from temptation. You see, righteousness doesn't always protect you from lies. Because the bad thing about it is the wife, Potiphar's wife, falsely accuses him. So the story gets deep. Now Joseph's thrown into prison. You see, a lesson learned here is always doing the right thing doesn't always guarantee an immediate reward. But guys, it will preserve your soul. Think about that. Even doing the right thing in the wrong situation might even have you thrown in jail for telling the truth. And it doesn't have an immediate reward. But it preserves your eternal soul. You see, Colossians 3 2, set your mind on things above, not on earthly things. And I know we can't see into the future. But that's why we have prayer and devotion and time with God so that he can guide us through the lessons so that we can get to the blessings. You see, even in prison, after he was thrown in prison, Scripture said the Lord was with him. Joseph gains responsibility. Once again, he interprets dreams. See, Pharaoh has these dreams. And he interprets this for Pharaoh's cupbearer and baker. Joseph asked one thing. That's all. He said, Remember me when it goes well. I don't I don't want you can take all the credit, just remember me when it goes well. You see, in Genesis 40, verse 23, the cupbearer was a typical selfish person. The chief cupbearer, however, did not remember Joseph, he forgot him. It says that in verse 23. You see, Joseph is faithful, he's helpful, and he's honest, even in prison. You see, this is where most men quit. This is where most men have a gut check. This is where most men cannot carry on. But he was faithful. He was faithful, and he didn't need an applause. He didn't need credit. He didn't need reward. He didn't need any of that stuff. He was just faithful. You see, God's sudden promotion happens when we least expect it. God's blessings will happen on his time and when we least expect it. You see, two years went by. Something happened to the baker and the cupbearer, and then Pharaoh has no one who can interpret the dreams. You see, God shows up, and then suddenly Joseph, who's been in prison for two years, is automatically remembered. Whoa, remember this guy. Hey, that's God. That's time. So they cleaned Joseph up and brought him before Pharaoh. He interprets the dreams and gives wisdom. And in Genesis chapter 41, verse 41, so Pharaoh said to Joseph, I hereby put you in charge of the whole land of Egypt. Wow. In one day. In one day God changed his life. You see, when you are faithful and obedient, God never leaves. Even when it feels like nothing's gonna happen and all faith is lost. He stayed faithful. Most men would have lost faith. He stayed faithful. You see, in one day, my God sent him from the prison to the palace. In one day, my God took his chains off and made him authority. You see? In one day, my God made Joseph from forgotten to not only a baker, not only a cupbearer, but second in command. You remember it was said, those that be first be last, and those that be last be first. Think about it. You see, when God moves, God moves. And a lot of times it's suddenly. You see? You might not understand the delay, but don't get in denial. Keep your faith. That's called discipline. And we are called to be disciplined. Men of God. You see, years later, and here's where the story of God has a humorous point and comes back around. Full circle. You see, years later, a huge famine hit the land. And guess who was over? Egypt. Second in command. Who did everybody go to? Not Pharaoh. Pharaoh, second in command, reported to Pharaoh. Everybody else reported to Joseph. So guess what? Joseph's brothers was in the famine. So they came to Egypt for food. They stood before Joseph and did not even recognize their own brother that they sold into slavery years before. Way years before. You see, the man stands before them, and they don't even recognize. Joseph then reveals himself. He eventually says these words, and this is Genesis 50, verse 20. You see, you intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done. The saving of many lives. You see, Joseph does not deny the pain of everything he went through growing up. He recognizes God's purpose. Guys, I want you to think about something when I say that. Joseph doesn't deny the pain that he went through. He recognizes God's purpose. This is the definition of spiritual maturity. So, guys, I want you to ask yourself, and here are some questions. Three today. Three study questions. First, am I faithful where I am? Or am I bitter or upset about where I'm not? Am I faithful where I am or am I bitter or upset about where I'm not? Question number dos two. Am I running from temptation? Or am I just managing it? Sitting on the fence, thinking I'm managing it. Am I running from temptation or am I trying to manage it? Third and last question today. And it's a good one. Am I trusting God's timing? Or am I resenting it? Am I trusting God's timing? Or am I resenting it? You see, Joseph didn't come or didn't become great in the palace. God just put him there. He became great in the pit. He became great in the prison. He stayed faithful. You see, God promoted. What pain and suffering prepared. God promoted what pain and suffering prepared. Guys, let's go to the Lord in prayer. Dear Father, just help us. Prepare us to be men of God, Lord. Help us to be faithful when life is unfair. When curveballs are thrown at us, Lord. Help us make contact when we least expect it, Lord. Lord, when life gives us lemons, help us eventually make sweet, sweet nectar of lemonade, Lord, with your name all over it. Lord, help us keep our faith. Lord, help us praise even in the good times and the bad times through the lessons, lessons, and blessings. Lord, we love you. Lord, just keep us, walk with us. Help us stay obedient. Give us clarity so that we may have wisdom. Lord, help us keep that rainbow of promise that you gave us, Lord, all them years and years and years ago. Lord, that we may be faithful children of God. We love you, we praise you. And it's in Jesus' holy, heavenly name. We pray these things. Amen and hallelujah. Well, guys, thank you for tuning in. Um, we got a good one up next. It's Moses. It's probably gonna be a lot longer because Moses deserves that. But um, guys, stay faithful. I know it's tough out there, a lot of division, a lot of uh fake psyops going on. Um, be careful who you follow on social media. Um, a lot of people pretend to know the truth, but like in 1 John says, you will know them by their fruits. So faith over feelings, God. Faith over feelings, guys. And what I mean by that, we ain't talking COVID. We're talking don't let your feelings go first. Pray first, use discernment, have faith. God loves you, B. Rob loves you. We thank you for tuning in. Make sure you visit the website, www.forchristministry.com. I need to update it because the book is on Amazon and you can order your copy. Discernment. Wake up call for a generationally cursed society. Sometimes I have to think about that. I know what it's called, it's just a lot of words. You know what I'm saying? But guys, we love you. It's been a great time, and we hope you keep tuning in, man. This thing is growing, God is good, and all glory goes to him. And if you do not have a relationship with Jesus Christ our Lord, you better get right. get right, yeah. Love you guys.
