Don't Let Pain Make You Bitter, Let God Make You Better
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
We name real suffering and the question we all ask when life hurts: why would God allow this? We lean on 1 Peter 3 to show how pressure can forge hope, reshape our reactions, and turn scars into testimony because Jesus already won.
• pain can harden us into bitterness or transform us into maturity
• 1 Peter 3:15 and the call to live ready with a reason for hope
• conduct that speaks louder than captions and comments
• consistency over performance and why quiet discipline changes people
• refusing revenge and letting God fight battles we want to fight
• the digital battlefield for the mind and the cost of instant reactions
• pressure as preparation and trials that produce perseverance
• scars as proof of pain and proof of healing
• fighting from victory through Jesus rather than for victory
• practical wisdom on where to spend our energy and how to respond with grace

Opening Prayer Against Evil
SPEAKER_00Strengthen my faith, Lord. Forgive my sins so that I may be clean in your righteousness. Make me brave so I can stand and fight the spiritual battles in my life and in our world. Give me your wisdom and discernment so I won't be caught off guard. Together, Lord, we will win. Because in truth, you already have. While evil skill roams, the power of your name and your blood rises up to defeat, and bring us victory against every evil planned against us. While malicious actions may disturb us, we use the armor of God you have given us to stand firm. You will bring justice and due time for all the harm and needless violence aimed at our children. Your children. Until then, we remain in your presence aligned with your purposes. We look to you as our supreme commander and protector. Help us to avoid temptation and deliver us from evil, Lord. You are the mighty one, the one who will ultimately bring all evil to light. With you, Jesus, we are safe. Amen.

SPEAKER_01It is the Food for Thought Faith Cast, and it is Tuesday, May 13th, on whatever calendar they got us on right now. But guys, today is a great day. You want to know why? You want to know why? You want to know why? Because God woke you up. God gave you a purpose. So come on in. Welcome in. Let's get everybody in. Let's get everybody in. Don't shut the doors. People might walk in late. Today we're going to talk about something every single person, every single listener has dealt with. Pain, pressure, disappointment, suffering. And then there's the question that nobody likes asking. Why? God, why am I going through this? Why is this happening to me? You see, we love preaching and talking about blessings. We love to preach and talk about favor. We love to preach and talk about breakthrough. But we're going to talk about something today. A chapter that Peter writes to believers who were suffering. Not fake some suffering. Not not somebody followed me online, unfollowed me online, suffering. Not, oh, I got less friends on Facebook than I did yesterday suffering. But we're talking about real suffering. We're talking about pressure. We're talking about rejection. We're talking about suffering pain physically, mentally, emotionally. We're talking about straight confusion. But you see, Peter teaches something powerful. You can either let the suffering harden your heart, or you can let God transform you through the suffering. You see, that's the tension today. A lot of people are walking around and going through pain. They become bitter. They become mad. They become angry. Others walk around in the same pain and they become anointed. It's the same fire, but a different outcome. How will your soul be forged? I want you to look at 1 Peter chapter 3, verse 15, and just let this verse sit right on your spirit. It says, But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. Hold on, pain ends. Hope. Make your life preach before your mouth does. If you look at 1 Peter chapter 3, verses 1 and 2, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives when they see the purity and reverence of your lives. And yes, Peter's addressing marriage here. But there's a deeper principle that he's talking about that applies to every single human. Your conduct speaks louder than your caption. Speaks louder than your comments. Speaks louder than anything else you may say or type. But you see, we live in a culture that's addicted to performance. Everybody's posting about motivation, everybody's posting Bible verses, everybody's posting God is good. But Peter says people are changed when people see transformation. Not when they hear quotes. Okay. Take an online fitness culture, right? Or take somebody that decided to get a gym membership and said, hey, I'm gonna work out, I'm gonna lose weight, I'm gonna do all this stuff, and they simply talk about it. They post gym selfies every day for a week, and then they go ghost, crickets, whatever. You see, some people do that, and they never actually have the obedience to follow through. While others are quiet, they don't post the selfies, they don't post the gym picks. They stay disciplined, and then all of a sudden, six months later, people are like, wow, there's been a transformation. And why is that? It's because consistency speaks. And if you look at it spiritually, it's the same way. Your family and friends will notice consistency, your coworkers will notice consistency, your wife and kids will notice consistency. You see, it's easy to worship and praise God when life is easy. But can you still trust the great author when it comes down and it comes time to make a diagnosis? Can you still worship and praise God when money is tight? Can you still forgive when you were done wrong? You see, that's when faith becomes visible. Let's back up and look at 1 Peter 3, verses 8 and 9. Finally, all of you be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble, do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. That, my friends, will preach. You want to know why? Because every single one of us listening, including myself talking, our flesh wants revenge. If somebody talks bad about us or to us, we want to talk back. If somebody snaps on us, we want to snap back. If somebody yells at us, we want to yell back. It's a natural human reaction. If somebody disrespects us, we want to prove ourselves. But Peter says kingdom folk respond differently. Kingdom people respond differently. Let's look at today's society, today's world. Search social media, Facebook, Instagram, X has everybody trained to react instantly, in that second. Somebody posts something we don't like, we think is offensive, and immediately the comment section becomes a war zone. There's no prayer, no wisdom, no pause, it's just reaction. It's cause and react. They're feeding off your emotions. It's a lower frequency. I'm guilty. You're guilty. Everybody's guilty. Everybody's looking for a reaction. The more reactions, the better the algorithms, the more people see your post. The whole system's designed to make you react. But guys, maturity, wisdom, obedience is not reacting emotionally to everything that happens around you. Anybody can snap back. You see, wars aren't fought, despite what the media tells you, wars are not fought with hundreds of thousands of soldiers anymore. There's a digital battlefield. The war is for your mind. The war is for your soul. And it takes spiritual discipline to stay peaceful when the flesh wants pure chaos because you are programmed to react emotionally. Let's back, let's look at the book of Romans. Romans 12, 19, it says, do not take revenge, but leave room for God's wrath. Guys, sometimes the greatest act of faith is letting God fight your battles. The ones you want to fight. There's a song by Silhouette called Peace. And the chorus sings. And I honestly believe that. I'm starting to learn this myself because I am quick to snap back on everything and get defensive. Because that's the way I was programmed. But even an old dog at 51 can learn new tricks. And let me tell you something, suffering does not mean God left you. In fact, living like Christ, Christ suffered. That's where the heart of the podcast is. First Peter chapter 3, verse 14. But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. Do not fear their threats. Do not be frightened. There's that word fear again. False evidence appearing real. Ninety-five percent of the things you think in your head never become true. I promise. And you see, in that verse, Peter is talking to believers who are under pressure. So if you're a believer and you're under pressure, Peter is talking to you. He says something shocking. He says you can suffer and still be blessed. That's not the world. That's not what modern society or modern culture teaches. They teach if life gets hard, something must be wrong. But you see, scripture teaches that pressure is preparation. Pressure is preparation. That's what scripture teaches. That the separation is in the preparation. Let's go back to the gym. Let's go to science. How do muscles grow under resistance, right? If there's no resistance to the muscle, it does not grow. And I know a lot of people who want resurrection power without crucifixion pressure spiritually, and that does not work. God only develops endurance through struggle. Let's look at James chapter one, verses two through four. Consider it pure joy whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Testing produces something. You see, pain can produce two things panic or perseverance. You're either going to panic or you're going to persevere. And I know a lot of people. And the only way some of us can change is the suffering that slows us down. I went through it. Because you know, a lot of people never pray until they're desperate. A lot of people never rest until their body crashes. A lot of folks never seek God deeply until their life is turned upside down and humbles them. But God knows how to get your attention, right? Not because he hates us, because he loves us too much to let us destroy ourselves. Let's look at 1 Peter 3 15 again. Always be prepared to give an answer for the hope that you have. Let me ask you this. Why would somebody ask you about your hope? It's a simple question. Maybe it's because they saw you survive something that they thought would destroy you. You see, 1 Peter 315 is talking about a testimony. That's a testimony. That's not your story. That's God's story of how he used you. Your story is a biography, it has nothing to do with God. It's kind of full of pride and selfish. But famous people do need biographies because they have fans, and fans like to know where they came from. And people's biographies are full of testimonies. So don't get my words twisted. But when they see you survive something they thought would destroy you, that's a testimony. That's not perfection, that is survival with faith. Boys, y'all need to calm down. These dogs snoring. These Frenchies be snoring. You see, a testimony is like scars after surgery. The scar proves that something painful happened. But it also proved that healing happened as well. And the sad thing is, a lot of you are ashamed of your scars. God does not want you to be ashamed. That scar may become somebody else's proof that God is still the healing God he has always been. Because Yeshua already won. If you look at 1 Peter 318, it says, For Christ also once suffered for sins to bring you to God. Peter's pointing back to Yeshua. Why? Why? Because this message is not about avoiding suffering, it's about following the one who overcame it to live with you, so you can overcome it as well. Look at 1 Peter 3 22, with angels' authorities and powers in submission to him. That means fear, that false evidence appearing real is underneath him. That means that depression that's trying to kill you, it's underneath him. That means that addiction to anything of this world, it's underneath him. All the spiritual attacks, everything that happens in this 3D dimension, are under him. And the great news is he has already won. So we're not fighting a battle for victory. We're fighting a battle from victory. It's kind of like watching the replay of a championship game. And you already know that your team wins. Watching the replay may be stressful at times, but you already know the outcome. The ending is already settled. That's the good news of a believer's life. There's going to be real trials, there's going to be real pressure, there's going to be real pain. But the ending is already secured through the Messiah Jesus Christ. So how do we apply this? Because we know that. How do we apply this to our lives? You see, your private life matters. Your private life matters. Stop reacting emotionally to everything. Not every battle deserves your energy. Not every battle deserves your energy. You have to trust God when you're suffering. Because that pain is going to produce purpose. It's going to produce a testimony. Your survival story can pull someone else out of the darkness. Your testimony is a light on a hill. And all you have to do is keep your eyes on Yeshua because he already overcame this world. He already overcame death. 1 Peter 3 15. Always be prepared to give an answer for the hope that you have. Because people are watching how you suffer. People are watching how you recover. People are watching whether your faith is real. Some people are even praying for your downfall, casting spells on you. But guys, today, if you're listening, and you're in a season where God is transforming you through pressure, just know that pressure is not punishment. That pressure is preparation. And there's separation in the preparation. Maybe God was stripping away dependence on the world so you can fully depend on Him. Maybe the pressure was producing discipline. Maybe the isolation was producing intimacy with God. I know mine was. Maybe your pain is your purpose. And here's the beautiful part. God doesn't waste any of it. None of the suffering. Nothing you surrender to him is wasted. Nothing. So, guys, if you don't have a relationship with him today, you need to get right. Let's go to the Lord in prayer. Father, we come to you today. We just thank you, Lord. We thank you in the name of Yeshua. Thank you for being with us in every season. Not just the good seasons, but the bad and the painful ones too, Lord. Father, help us to not become bitter. Help us to not harden our hearts through the suffering. Help us to become wiser, stronger, more humble, more dependent on you instead of the world. Lord, teach us to respond with grace when the world teaches revenge. Lord, teach us to trust you and only you when everything in this life feels uncertain. Lord, please be with the listeners today that are carrying emotional pain, battling anxiety, fear, battling addiction, sickness, exhaustion, or just spiritual heaviness, Lord. Lord, we ask you to restore discipline. We ask you to restore peace. We ask you to restore purpose. And Lord, we ask you that you keep us in your palm, that our lives become living testimonies that point people to you. Lord, we pray these things in Yeshua's holy heavenly name. Amen and hallelujah.
