00:01:00.170 --> 00:01:02.655 Sanctification we did that. 00:01:02.655 --> 00:01:18.001 But I just always, always circle back around prayer and you'll find that in ministers of just like they will try to cover all of the bases, but there's just a particular subject that they always circle back around because it's a supply in their heart. 00:01:18.001 --> 00:01:21.989 And so teaching on prayer is it's a supply in my heart. 00:01:21.989 --> 00:01:28.766 I've honestly, I think I've done it for like 22 years and I've just taught prayer and it's been a blessing. 00:01:28.766 --> 00:01:33.831 And even after 22 years of teaching it, I'm still growing and I'm still learning a lot. 00:01:34.560 --> 00:01:37.870 So the thing about prayer is, you'll never reach the end of prayer. 00:01:37.870 --> 00:01:42.564 You'll never reach the end of it, and I get it. 00:01:42.564 --> 00:01:46.831 I get the thought of like well, it's boring. 00:01:46.831 --> 00:01:49.462 I mean Jesus. 00:01:49.462 --> 00:01:55.072 The disciples were with Jesus and he told them come help me pray. 00:01:55.072 --> 00:02:02.093 I mean my God, jesus is getting ready to go do the greatest thing that has ever happened for mankind. 00:02:02.093 --> 00:02:04.246 It was his death, burial and resurrection. 00:02:04.246 --> 00:02:12.582 And he's got the disciples in that garden like snoozing and sleeping and they can't even stay awake to pray for Jesus. 00:02:12.582 --> 00:02:14.447 And so I get it. 00:02:14.447 --> 00:02:17.820 There are times when you're like I just get tired when I go in there. 00:02:17.820 --> 00:02:23.502 I do this when I'm, and so we're going to kind of talk about a couple things like that today and just to kind of help you out. 00:02:23.502 --> 00:02:24.545 I want to help you out. 00:02:24.545 --> 00:02:26.330 How many of you want to be helped with your prayer life? 00:02:26.330 --> 00:02:29.424 How many of you want to have a successful prayer life? 00:02:29.424 --> 00:02:36.211 Do you know that you're called to have a successful prayer life and there is a formula for your successful prayer life? 00:02:36.211 --> 00:02:38.060 And so we're going to look at that today. 00:02:38.159 --> 00:02:40.342 Let's go to John, chapter 15, verse 1. 00:02:40.342 --> 00:02:47.550 Excuse me, john 15, verse 1. 00:02:47.550 --> 00:02:48.831 And this is Jesus teaching. 00:02:48.831 --> 00:02:55.687 He's teaching his disciples, the people that are around him, and he said these words. 00:02:55.687 --> 00:02:59.281 He says I am the vine and my father is the vine dresser. 00:02:59.281 --> 00:03:09.008 So every branch in me that does not bear fruit, he takes away, and every branch that bears fruit, he prunes that it would bear more fruit. 00:03:09.531 --> 00:03:14.807 So notice this particular passage, and I don't want to camp too long here, but I do want to highlight. 00:03:14.807 --> 00:03:20.311 Notice that he's like okay, if there's things in your life that's not bearing fruit, if you're abiding in me. 00:03:20.311 --> 00:03:23.411 But if you're not abiding in me, I can't do anything about it. 00:03:23.411 --> 00:03:25.318 But if you're abiding in me, but if you're not abiding in me, I can't do anything about it. 00:03:25.318 --> 00:03:34.125 But if you're abiding in me, I'm going to deal with those things in your life that shouldn't be there and I'm going to cut them off. 00:03:34.125 --> 00:03:35.668 Right? 00:03:36.269 --> 00:03:40.122 How many of you had parents that corrected you as a child? 00:03:40.122 --> 00:03:40.483 Right? 00:03:40.483 --> 00:03:45.509 I saw a mother's look right here in the front row. 00:03:45.509 --> 00:03:48.715 Right, we correct our children. 00:03:48.715 --> 00:03:52.550 It's not an enjoyable thing, right to be corrected. 00:03:53.473 --> 00:04:03.562 So when God starts kind of pruning things away, it may feel like sharp and it may feel like he's cutting and it may hurt a little bit when he starts pruning. 00:04:03.562 --> 00:04:12.935 How many of you ever felt the only way I know how to describe it is it's like a very vulnerable feeling, like you just feel vulnerable and it's like, ah, it's uncomfortable. 00:04:12.935 --> 00:04:16.807 It is uncomfortable because you just feel like things are being cut away. 00:04:16.807 --> 00:04:26.401 They are being cut away because they are, and so God will cut away things in your life that he doesn't want there, and so God will cut away things in your life that he doesn't want there. 00:04:26.401 --> 00:04:35.694 But here's the other thing that he'll do he will also prune good things in your life, just so you can bear more of it. 00:04:35.694 --> 00:04:51.985 Because notice, he said, if you bear fruit, let me read it, verse two every branch of me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that bears fruit he'll prune. 00:04:51.985 --> 00:04:52.685 Why, why will he? 00:04:52.685 --> 00:04:58.901 Why will he prune the good things in your life so you can bear more of it. 00:04:58.901 --> 00:05:05.812 So there's a, there's a process that you have when you learn to abide in him. 00:05:05.872 --> 00:05:08.762 The point of this message is abiding in him. 00:05:08.762 --> 00:05:12.449 So when you come to him, there's things that will happen. 00:05:12.449 --> 00:05:14.701 He'll cut things away, he'll begin to. 00:05:14.701 --> 00:05:15.884 He might even deal. 00:05:15.884 --> 00:05:16.908 Can I tell you something? 00:05:16.908 --> 00:05:19.040 He might even deal with your personality. 00:05:19.040 --> 00:05:26.420 How many of you are like well, this is just, I'm just Italian, this is who I am, I'm Irish, this is who I am right? 00:05:26.420 --> 00:05:30.129 How many of you have heard people talk like this is who I am. 00:05:30.129 --> 00:05:31.872 My grandpa was like this. 00:05:31.872 --> 00:05:34.526 My grandma was like this this is who I am. 00:05:34.966 --> 00:05:43.449 Here's the thing If it doesn't line up with the personality of who God is and the personality of Jesus, god will deal with those things in your life. 00:05:43.449 --> 00:05:46.435 I've had it many times in my life. 00:05:46.435 --> 00:05:48.463 God's dealt with my personality. 00:05:48.463 --> 00:05:51.427 He's dealt with things in my life. 00:05:51.427 --> 00:05:55.274 He's cut away things, and so he will. 00:05:55.274 --> 00:06:04.064 He will do those things for you, but he will also prune the good things in your life so that you can bear more fruit and you're like well, that's good enough. 00:06:04.064 --> 00:06:06.007 I mean, like Lord, I bear. 00:06:06.007 --> 00:06:07.569 I mean, it's like I give. 00:06:07.569 --> 00:06:12.175 I have 30% fruit on my branches, isn't that good? 00:06:12.175 --> 00:06:14.468 The goal is to get to 100%. 00:06:14.468 --> 00:06:22.891 He wants you to bear that amount of fruit, and we're going to look later on what that fruit does in your life. 00:06:22.891 --> 00:06:33.163 So he says here, as a branch, in verse 4, here's the key factor for your life, if you want to be successful in your life. 00:06:34.045 --> 00:06:40.694 Everything revolves around this phrase right here Abide in me, abide in me. 00:06:40.694 --> 00:06:46.211 If you want to have success in your life, you have to abide in the Father. 00:06:46.211 --> 00:06:51.928 He says abide in me and I in you. 00:06:51.928 --> 00:06:57.947 And as a branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you unless you abide in me. 00:06:57.947 --> 00:07:13.533 He was like everything is like this Linked hands together, linked fingers together, him abiding, you, abiding you, coming together and co-working with him, co-laboring with him. 00:07:14.641 --> 00:07:20.608 This whole passage here is talking about your prayer life, that he abides in you and you abide in him. 00:07:20.608 --> 00:07:26.380 Then verse says he says I am the vine, you are the branches, he who abides in me and I in him. 00:07:26.380 --> 00:07:27.002 What do we do? 00:07:27.002 --> 00:07:28.264 We bear much fruit. 00:07:28.264 --> 00:07:37.449 So the goal I love this about the father your job is just to abide, that's it. 00:07:37.449 --> 00:07:46.189 You don't have to create the fruit, you don't have to put the fruit on the branches, you don't even have to grow the fruit. 00:07:46.189 --> 00:07:49.379 Your job is just to abide in the vine. 00:07:49.379 --> 00:07:58.050 And as you abide in that vine, you draw life from that vine and it begins to feed and grow the fruit in your life. 00:07:58.050 --> 00:07:59.862 Don't you love that. 00:07:59.862 --> 00:08:07.024 You don't have to try to produce the fruit, that the only job you have is just to go into that place where you spend time with him. 00:08:07.024 --> 00:08:11.458 That's it right and use your faith in that moment. 00:08:11.458 --> 00:08:15.887 So I mentioned this in first service in your place of prayer. 00:08:16.930 --> 00:08:25.814 My encouragement for you is do not bring your phone in your place of prayer when you are abiding with him. 00:08:25.814 --> 00:08:28.422 Leave the phone somewhere else. 00:08:28.422 --> 00:08:31.588 Would every person in this room agree with me? 00:09:28.163 --> 00:09:34.923 And so you know, the temptation is just to constantly look at that phone and constantly look at that phone. 00:09:34.923 --> 00:09:36.467 So don't bring your phone in with you. 00:09:36.467 --> 00:09:47.674 Bring a notepad, bring a pen or a pencil, some highlighters, and bring your Bible and just go into that place and learn to abide in him. 00:09:47.674 --> 00:09:49.267 Number one that's the biggest one. 00:09:49.267 --> 00:09:54.966 That's the biggest one is get to a place where it's quiet and that you have zero distractions. 00:09:54.966 --> 00:10:02.846 This summer, I usually will use my chair in my living room, but we have a busy house right now. 00:10:03.489 --> 00:10:06.784 We have kids coming in Beau's home, lucy's home, more. 00:10:06.784 --> 00:10:11.030 And so I just go deep into my closet. 00:10:11.030 --> 00:10:14.990 See, I come in there one day and he's like what are you doing in here? 00:10:14.990 --> 00:10:18.927 I'm like I need solitude, I need alone time. 00:10:18.927 --> 00:10:20.225 I can't do this anymore. 00:10:21.081 --> 00:10:32.489 You find a place where it's just for you and it's quiet, and you go into that place and you make an effort to abide in him and you might have to tell your soul shut up. 00:10:32.489 --> 00:10:35.559 Your soul will talk to you. 00:10:35.559 --> 00:10:43.447 Your soul, all of a sudden, your soul will remember every little detailed thing that you forgot to do where. 00:10:43.447 --> 00:10:52.587 You know, 30 minutes ago you never even thought about that kind of stuff, but now, all of a sudden, you remember, deep in that closet down in the basement, that you were going to. 00:10:52.587 --> 00:10:56.160 You know, oh, now I remember where that Christmas gift is. 00:10:56.160 --> 00:10:58.831 And now you're up and you're down there looking for the stuff. 00:10:58.831 --> 00:11:03.903 It's just amazing what you automatically start thinking of when you get in that place. 00:11:04.325 --> 00:11:05.866 But you have to discipline yourself. 00:11:05.866 --> 00:11:08.389 So you discipline yourself. 00:11:08.389 --> 00:11:17.491 That's why Paul says this don't be conformed to this world, but be conformed to the word of be transformed by the renewing of your mind. 00:11:17.491 --> 00:11:19.640 Why? 00:15:09.908 --> 00:15:13.860 It means he literally comes and he lives in the praises of his people. 00:15:13.860 --> 00:15:17.591 There's just something about praise where God shows up on the scene. 00:15:17.591 --> 00:15:22.708 So you get in your prayer room, you have your Bible, your pen and your paper. 00:15:22.708 --> 00:15:24.977 And why do you have a pen and a paper. 00:15:24.977 --> 00:15:28.067 It's because you want to write down the things that he's talking to you about. 00:15:28.067 --> 00:15:28.710 You know why?
