This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Millie.
Speaker 2:M. Hello everybody and welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast. I'm Millie M. Are you in need of a success consultant to help take your business to the next level and turn it around? Well, I have just the right person for you. I have the pleasure of speaking to your good neighbor, allison Roberts of Unapologetic Power. How are you, allison?
Speaker 3:Great Millie, Thank you so much for having me here.
Speaker 2:Thanks for being here. We're really excited to learn all about you and your business. Tell us more about Unapologetic Power.
Speaker 3:Yeah, so Unapologetic Power. We go into your business and we look at the goal that you're trying to achieve and the things that you've tried to get there and where you are falling short. Because a lot of businesses they know exactly where they want to go and they're just having a really difficult time getting there. And a lot of people will take on the ideas especially people on sales teams of there aren't enough prospects, the pricing isn't right, they have to talk to someone else to make the decision and we call those, you know, buyer objectives. But when you have too many of those, then it's really not the buyer that is the issue, it is the sales team. So we go in and uncover what is going on with those people as individuals and we help them get over their fear of selling, their fear of making other people feel uncomfortable, and all of those things that they deal with to reach their sales goal.
Speaker 2:Makes sense. There's a lot of psychology that goes into sales and I can see how you dealing with your own issues and then dealing with the personality in front of you, where psychology would be key in being successful in sales. So how did you get into this business or this sector of the business?
Speaker 3:Yeah, so it's really interesting. So I started out working with individuals with their trauma and one of my friends who owned a salon. She came to me and she was like you know the people that rent these chairs. They are supposed to be bringing in their own clients, but they're all relying on me to do all the marketing and bring people through the door. So she was like, can you help? Like I need and I've gone to you know other people and nothing is working and I love what you do, so can you come in? So I went in, I dissected down like what was happening and you know every every one of them said you know, I'm a hairstylist, I'm not a salesperson.
Speaker 3:Well, that's not true, because we're all salespeople. We're all we're constantly selling ourselves all day long, whether it's getting in the dating world or trying to make a great first impression to someone that you know we want to do business with or be a friend with or whatever the thing might be. And so we broke down like what all of their resistance and fear was around upselling and just getting people to come into the door. And she saw in their existing clientele, with these hairstylists upselling them to a conditioning treatment or a shoulder massage or their eyebrows being waxed and tinted. A 300 percent increase get out, yes, ma'am, in just a four-month period. Um, so it really was me and my team just going in and saying, like let's just take sales out of the vocabulary and let's just talk about having a conversation and you really serving your customer. Like don't sell them something that you don't think they don't need.
Speaker 3:Like only speak to them if you really, if your heart is in it and you really want to make them feel and look more beautiful when they walk out that door, and it was incredible.
Speaker 2:Cannot deny those results 300% in four months. Man, I'm pretty sure your friend was happy that you intervened and helped her out. What are some myths or misconceptions about your industry or what you do?
Speaker 3:I think the big misconception is that it's not a personal problem. I've worked with realtors and loan officers, insurance salespeople, and the bosses and their leaders will always say you know what do you mean? You're going to work with their fear and their trauma. It doesn't make any sense. And it makes total sense because the person is the person showing up at work. Our personality is what we bring with us everywhere that we go, and so you can have the most ambitious person in the world who wants to meet the highest goals in the world, and a lot of times managers will think that's enough, and the misconception is that it's not. They need to believe in themselves, and a lot of people just fall short of that.
Speaker 2:I love how you're combining, like I said, those personal issues and how that can translate to success in business Because, as you said, some people, I think, like to separate the two. I'm this person in my personal life and I'm this person in business, but if you have self-doubt or things that are holding you back, it's definitely going to show up in all the areas of your life. So who are your target customers and how do you connect with them and attract them?
Speaker 3:My target customers are the people who are super motivated. They do have excuses, but they really do believe that they are reason and they're just not making their sales goals. You know, and they it can either be the manager or the salesperson themselves. It's great if it starts with the manager and they kind of make it not mandatory, but just like, you're going to have this sales training and it's a little bit different from what you're accustomed to. So my ideal client is the person who understands that there is a blockage going on and they're curious and they want to see what the result is going to be.
Speaker 2:Absolutely. Self-mastery is key. You are in charge of you at all times. So let's talk about what you do outside of work. What do you do for fun?
Speaker 3:I have a family, I have dogs, I play tennis, I'm getting ready to start pickleball, which is something I said I would never do.
Speaker 2:I was just about to say that's. The next progression from tennis is pickleball.
Speaker 3:It is, and I was calling every pickleball player a traitor. But I'm like okay, fine, I'll go play pickleball. Um, I love to hike anything that's outside where I can just ground myself and just breathe in the fresh air and, yeah, reconnect with nature.
Speaker 2:That is so important. That is so important, so let's switch gears a little bit. Can you describe a life challenge or a hardship that you had to overcome and how it made you stronger?
Speaker 3:Yeah, so I was actually at 19, I was homeless and living in my car, and when you go through something like that, you really come to an understanding that no one is coming to rescue you and that if you want to turn your life around, it really has to be you, and you have to be willing to do, like, whatever it takes to get back up on your feet again in a direction that's going to bring you light and success and legacy and love, like all of the things that we all crave.
Speaker 3:And it was a long journey for me, but it was a very it's been a very meaningful one. And you know I've not been homeless for a long, long time. You know I got out of that like 40 years ago and you know I think that's like it can be like a typical hero's journey of like I was homeless and it's not, but you don't have to go that far down to want more in life. And I think a lot of times people don't get the help that they need if they don't go through some big major crisis. But for me that's what it was and it just completely made my life better eventually.
Speaker 2:That is so inspiring and I'm so glad that you were able to use that in order to help motivate other people. And, like I said, I'm inspired to know that, no matter what I'm going through, that I can conquer myself and I have the power to come out of it as well. Allison, tell our listeners one thing you would like for them to remember about unapologetic power.
Speaker 3:The thing I want you to remember is that you have the power within you. You just may not have the tool, and so unapologetic power we fill up your toolbox with and we also sharpen maybe some dull tools that you have, but you are left. We leave you better than how you came to us, and that's the thing that I want you to always remember about us.
