This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Millie.
Speaker 2:M. Hello everybody, Welcome to the Good Neighbor Podcast. I'm Millie M. Are you in need of a great therapist? Well, one might be closer than you think. I have the ultimate pleasure of introducing your good neighbor Ezekiel Andrews of Zeke Andrews Hypnotherapy. How are you? I'm doing great, I'm doing great and yourself. I'm doing quite well. Thank you for asking Great to see you. We're excited to hear all about you and your business. Tell us more about Zeke Andrews Hypnotherapy.
Speaker 3:So I'm Zeke Andrews. Also, I'm a licensed professional counselor. I'm a certified master addition counselor as well as a Reiki master, and I incorporate all the different methodologies in my practice to help people achieve permanent behavior change.
Speaker 2:Wow, Sounds like you're very well-rounded in the different strategies that you use. So how did you get into this business Reiki and hypnotherapy in particular.
Speaker 3:I first started my own career, I've been doing social abuse counseling and in social abuse counseling I love theories and I apply them a lot. But I've noticed in social abuse how the individual they'll get to a certain place and end up aggressing. In social abuse they end up lapsing and I was attempting to figure out what was it. So I began to study mental health. I started to recognize that it was a mental health component that I was missing. I started working with mental health, working with families and individuals. The same thing would happen the individual would get to a certain place and they would regress and I was like, okay, it has to be something else, what's going on? And on my study of understanding the brain, I found hypnosis and it opened up a whole embodiment of psychology that I never understood. And from then I went from working with clients for, let's say, a year or eight to nine months to meet, help an individual pass overcoming anxiety and depression in less than five minutes using hypnosis.
Speaker 2:Really Five minute solution.
Speaker 3:Yeah.
Speaker 2:Oh, wow.
Speaker 3:Anxiety and depression.
Speaker 2:So somebody would come to you and say I'm suffering from depression, and you would put them under hypnotherapy and in five minutes they would go home and they would just not suffer from the same symptoms that they had before.
Speaker 3:Correct, I'm going to say it like this. So I help facilitate hypnosis, so within less than five minutes of facilitating hypnosis, that person will walk away asymptomatic.
Speaker 2:Wow, that is. That is a I'm just, I'm blown. I'm blown away just because so many people have so many coping mechanisms and and you know pharmaceuticals and you know just vitamins and just different things that they do to try to overcome those situations. And it's like you're saying go under hypnosis and we can handle it in minutes.
Speaker 3:Correct. I mean a lot of times we do cope and we stop ourselves from overcoming, so it's just a bandaid on a bigger solution.
Speaker 2:You are rewiring the brain in a short period of time.
Speaker 3:Correct, and one of the methods that I use is called NLP Neuro Linguistic Programming and that's exactly what it is.
Speaker 2:Oh goodness, that is such a longer conversation. So what are some myths or misconceptions about your industry or what you do specifically?
Speaker 3:All right, I'm going to hop into hypnosis and I might expand beyond that. But the myth in hypnosis is that I'm making you do something. No, that's not true. The facts is 80 to 85% of the day we're in a hypnotic trance. So what I do is I actually help the individual induce a the trance and they allow themselves to enter hypnosis. I'm there only as a facilitator.
Speaker 3:I can't make you do nothing that you don't want to do. But what happens is this is the sign. The signs is with hypnosis we we're accessing the subconscious mind, and normal therapy, um, unless you have a great therapist, most of the work takes place in the conscious mind. There's no long-term change in the conscious mind. The long-term change or long-term memory is only in the self-conscious. It's also where the emotion lies, too. Hypnosis they breathe to the self-conscious mind and then, with therapy, you can make the change.
Speaker 2:Some people are getting over on their therapist by not really getting to the root of what's going on.
Speaker 3:I think that, see, hypnosis is hypnosis. The study of hypnosis is where birth on psychology. But a lot of people now don't work within the subconscious. They do a lot of talk therapy, which is more work. I don't want to overstep the psychotherapy because I still use it. The conscious mind has to have a certain level of buy-in. Once you get that buy-in, you have to reach consciousness, because that's where the emotions are, that's what the beliefs are, that's where the feelings are, that's where your personality is. All the things that we incorporate to make a change's where the emotions are, that's what the beliefs are, that's where the feelings are, that's where your personality is, all the things that we incorporate to make the change. You have to access it to bring about that change. If not, once you run out of willpower, you return back to old habits.
Speaker 2:Gotcha, and that's that. That's that wall that you were noticing, that people were hitting.
Speaker 3:Right, right.
Speaker 2:That's exactly what it means, gotcha. So who are your target customers and how do you connect with them?
Speaker 3:um, my target customers. I'm a general practitioner but I love to work with people who have um, who suffer with uh, a lot of trauma to be real with you if you suffer a lot of grief, if you suffer with a lot of emotional pain. Um, a lot of trauma to be real with you If you suffer a lot of grief, if you suffer with a lot of emotional pain. I like to work with those individuals. I like to work with individuals from the age of the earliest I have seen clients from seven years old, the youngest I have seen, the oldest I have seen clients was happening in like 79. I even like to work with the individuals that preparing to transition over A lot of work with that population as well. And even the everydayers everyday individuals that's going through, struggling with high level. I work with heavy diagnosis such as schizophrenia bipolar. I work with narcissistic personality types.
Speaker 3:I got a client for you remember I can't, I can't do nothing. They don't want to do. They got to want to make the change exactly.
Speaker 2:Uh, just a really quick question. Do you that, like you said, your youngest is seven years old? Are parents ever nervous about their children, that young, going under hypnosis?
Speaker 3:To be honest, no, to be honest. No, from my experience, what they want is a healthy child and normally they have tried everything else before they get me. So once they hear, they're like, okay, cool, is this going to help my son, is this going to help my daughter? And go ahead. I remember this one 16-year-old girl I seen she was in a bad wreck. She was in a wreck when the 16-year-old in the car almost pushed off the side of the bridge and she had started driving. She and the car almost pushed off the other side of the bridge and she had started driving. She had started driving for a long time. I can't remember how long she was driving, probably about nine, 10 months and one session.
Speaker 2:Got right back behind the wheel One session. Oh my goodness, I'm blown away. So let's just kind of switch gears a little bit Outside of work. What do you do for fun?
Speaker 3:What I do, for I'm a complete nerd. I got my bookshelf right here. I got, I got plenty of books, so I study, I like to, I like to jog, I like to spend time in the woods and whatnot. Let me see what else. And, to be honest, I like to have fun. I write, I got some theories that I work on my own stuff and I'm a fan of Jungian psychology, so I am definitely indulgent to my desires. That's what I do to replenish myself.
Speaker 2:Sounds good. I know you need it after a long day, so can you describe a hardship or a life challenge that you overcame and how it made you stronger?
Speaker 3:Oh, absolutely, I'm from South Georgia. I come from a province, stricken community. Just, I've seen a lot of drug abuse going on. I seen a lot of. I seen a lot of violence. I seen destruction. I seen. I seen a whole lot of things. And not only that, not only dealing with that, but mentally, my, my people, people, they suffer with their own mental issues. Um, so, growing up through that and also just dealing in college, um, I had a dream to be a football player and have to overcome the adversity. I also changed my personality. A lot of things that I came up against at At one point in time I used to use substances as well too. So, yeah, it was a lot that I went through that allowed for me to be the person I am today. It allowed for me to be able to touch and connect with the people that I see every day, absolutely, people that I see every day.
Speaker 2:Absolutely, what a story of triumph of going through all of that and being able to utilize that in a positive manner to help other people. So, zeke, please tell our listeners one thing you want them to take away, and remember about Zeke Andrews' hypnotherapy.
Speaker 3:Oh, one thing that you could take away is that if you want to change, if you want to change like, if you want to change, yeah, I'm that guy to help you change. That's it.
