E61: BA Kitchen and Bath - The One-Stop Remodeling Solution for Your Dreams Made Reality

Milli M. & Diana Johnson Episode 61

Diana Johnson's passion for transforming living spaces radiates through every word as she introduces us to BA Kitchen and Bath Design, a hidden gem serving Cobb County families for nearly a decade. This isn't just another remodeling company – it's a testament to the American dream, founded by Baldemar Avila who immigrated with nothing but determination and vision, gradually building a reputation for excellence in residential renovations.

What immediately stands out is their comprehensive approach to home transformation. While many contractors specialize in just one aspect of renovation, BA Kitchen and Bath Design truly serves as a one-stop solution for everything from kitchen and bathroom remodels to basement renovations. With their team of twelve dedicated professionals and over twenty years of combined experience, they've tackled the most common frustrations in home renovation – missed deadlines, poor communication, and disappointing results – by creating a system that prioritizes both quality craftsmanship and attentive client care.

The family-owned aspect of the business gives it a warmth that corporate renovation companies simply can't match. Diana speaks eloquently about understanding that homes aren't just structures but emotional investments where families create lifelong memories. This philosophy guides their approach to every project, ensuring that renovated spaces not only look beautiful but also function perfectly for each family's unique needs. They genuinely care about delivering results that homeowners will love for years while adding tangible value to their property. From their showroom in Marietta showcasing cabinets, tiles, and design options to their dedication to walking clients through every step of the renovation journey, BA Kitchen and Bath Design has established itself as a trusted partner for homeowners throughout Cobb County and beyond. Ready to transform your living space with a team that treats your home with the same care they would their own? Visit their showroom or website today to begin your renovation journey.

Speaker 1:

This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Millie M.

Speaker 2:

Welcome everybody to the Good Neighbor Podcast. I'm your host, millie M. Are you in need of a full-service one-stop shop for all your interior remodel needs? Well, we have someone closer than you think. I have the pleasure of introducing your good neighbor, diana Johnson of BA Kitchen and Bath Design. How are you, diana?

Speaker 3:

Very good, thank you.

Speaker 2:

Awesome. We are so excited to hear all about you and your business. Tell us more about BA Kitchen and Bath Design.

Speaker 3:

Yes, yes. So we're happy to be serving the Cap County and around areas for almost close to 10 years and all remodeling needs interior design and also remodeling bathrooms, kitchens, basements. So to be here and, you know, just share more about our services.

Speaker 2:

Awesome. So how did you get into this business? What made you decide to go into interior design?

Speaker 3:

Well, actually, I work here, as one of you know, interior design. Well, actually, I work here, as one of you know, professionals that work in the business. But this business was founded by Baldemar Avila, who immigrated to this country, as many Hispanic, with the dream of building a better life, and so he started very young working with his dad and then members, and he learned a lot of skills that he learned, acquired over time and then was able to go on business for himself and has been, you know, building this amazing company. This is a family-owned business.

Speaker 2:

A partner that I joined with is another family member and combined they have over 20 years of experience in all the areas of cabinets, floorings, countertops, painting everything that you need on a remodeling project, but done with quality and with care. 20 years of experience, a family business the American dream, for sure. What are some myths or misconceptions about your industry or what you do in particular?

Speaker 3:

Well, who knows that, unfortunately sometimes taking advantage of right by by subcontractors, general contractors just you know, anybody that might come to your home to say that they're going to do something and when you see the final result it's not what you think that it can be very disappointed, because our beautiful place that we have and sometimes it's the biggest asset for a lot of people we put a lot of care and you want to make sure that whoever comes to your home really take care of it and do what they were supposed to do and they do it in a timely manner, right.

Speaker 3:

So, based on that and hearing a lot of feedback, you know I love that Pal de Maravilla and Philadelphia Villa, who are, you know, the owners and partners right now, take that to heart and they do a really good job while working with employees and the subcontractors to understand the vision and really understanding to own the jobs, to own the process and to be present and mindful. So here I hope also just be able to improve all those communications between our clients and the office team. So it's a very seamless, stressful and more enjoyable experience.

Speaker 2:

Taking care of people's babies, for sure. So who are your target customers? I know just. Is it anyone who owns a home? Or, and how do you reach those customers?

Speaker 3:

Yes, so it's racial families. Okay, here in the Cap County area San Springs, smyrna, roswell, kennesaw, agworth, wustak so you know we're in more in the Northeast area. So residential owners, you know, homeowners, that's our main focus.

Speaker 2:

How do you reach them? How do they find out about you?

Speaker 3:

Yes, we have a website. It's beautiful, and so you can see a lot of our projects featured there, which is a resource. I will give you those details so you can share with the public. Also, we have all social media Instagram, facebook, tic Tac and we also use advertisement through social media marketing, google ads and most of our clients come through referrals.

Speaker 2:

I'm sorry. Most of your clients come, come through referrals. Ah yes, word of mouth is best. So have you ever thought about doing your own podcast? Has your company ever thought about getting into that?

Speaker 3:

actually, yes, I think that's something that we're looking into. Um, the spouses of the owners also work in the business, so it's beautiful to know that they both have amazing talents. Um, so one of them manages all them and is is really good with her skills on detail. Actually, she also has her own company that is called BA Organization, so she's the one that, after we had done the remodeling project, she helps you take care of before and after, if you just right, because you know that packing and unpacking things can be a little stressful and overwhelming more for families with kids or sometimes, um, older senior couples.

Speaker 3:

So she offers those services and she also manages our company's uh marketing efforts and that's something that we have been looking to. We're love podcast, so we're happy to be here and we love listening to the good neighborhood podcast. So hopefully in the near future it's just, you know, just managing projects and resources and priorities. Just social media, you know, can be sometimes time consuming and finding teams that can really understand what you're looking for and the quality that you're expecting. But yes, this is going to be a project in the near future. So hopefully for late this year or early this year.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, sounds good. With all the different areas that you all are experts in and the fact that you all have those 20 years of experience behind you, you have such a wealth of information that you can share with people. So let's just talk about outside of work. What do you do for fun?

Speaker 3:

Yes, well, as many of you, I'm a mommy, married for many, many years, and I had two boys age nine, soon to be nine, and a 14-year-old. So I'm a mama, teenager. So I think this summer I'm going to be very present to them this season. You know, kids grow so fast. Besides that, I love sports, so my boys play soccer, basketball, they do swimming, they do karate.

Speaker 3:

You got to keep boys active, To be outdoors. I love hiking and for sure I love to be in the community. I have been in a cab since 2013. And I have been in Georgia for almost 22 years, so this is home for me and I love to be able to support a lot of business owners in the construction and real estate space to grow their businesses and to share with the community what a great talent and resources they have around them.

Speaker 2:

Oh, I love that. Cobb is a special place for sure. Yes, so let's switch gears. Can you describe a hardship or a life challenge that you overcame and how it made you stronger?

Speaker 3:

Yeah, so I will. Actually, my personal story is that I came here at the age of 17 by myself but, you know, always with God. I didn't speak the language, I didn't have any money and I didn't have my family, so I felt like, you know, god, of course, is always with me and he had guided me along the way. But I remember the 2008 financial crisis. I don't know if you guys remember that mortgage crisis. Well, I was. I remember that was just got my house the year prior, so that was 2007.

Speaker 3:

I'm going to college. I'm going to school full, you know, in the evenings. I went to Georgia. I got my degrees in business and marketing. I'm working full time during the day and I was literally realizing that, even though I did everything right, I was in the middle of the storm and I no longer hold, you know, everything paying the tuitions, I was cash flowing, my education, I love finances, I love math, I love operations. So I love to be, you know, be able to serve, because I had lived it so, literally having a house that was under value, paying those interest rates, you know, that were very high back then. I don't know if people remember, but I was in the nines literally, because I was first time owner and you know it's like high risk, all things that you don't know.

Speaker 3:

You just sign the documents, okay, and then going to school. Wait a minute, if this is the economy now, what's going to happen when I finish? You know companies were closing. It was incredible. So, overcoming that, okay, becoming educated, stepping out of the comfort zone, learning to consult, learning to go to proficiency, know what they're doing and learn how to pivot and overcome that. So I was able to rebuild, okay, and then, of course, buy another property, be able to make smarter decisions and understand that.

Speaker 3:

You know, life can happen to anybody, no matter how good you think you are. It can be personal, it it can be health related, but the main thing is having community around you and people that you trust, uh, you know, helping you along the way. So that's kind of the personal thing. On business, of course, I make decisions where we get excited. We think we, we know it all, we think that, hey, this is going to work out, and then, oops, you know, the economy happens. Um, in, there are other variables that we cannot control, but in the moment, because we're emotional, making that decision, think about that. And then, of course, you have to deal with the challenges of that and sometimes it slows you down, but again, I think that it's all about you know, seeing the perspective becoming stronger and wiser because of it, and I think that's why I love you and wiser because of it, and I think that's why I love business so much construction, real estate finances. I just love it because it has been my story since the beginning.

Speaker 2:

So you know Absolutely, you either win or you learn. I think that's what I'm hearing you say, like, no matter what, you either win or you've learned from those experiences and come out so much better. I love that. So, diana um, could you tell our listeners one thing you would like for them to always remember about va kitchen and bath design?

Speaker 2:

Oh, very taken care of and probably feel like part of the family at that point.

Speaker 3:

Everything is that feeling of family. We want to make sure that when you're in that kitchen it's like you know we were there. We can visualize that from the beginning, that it's a bathroom or that basement, because their home. You know, family homes are like the biggest assets for a lot of people and once you do a project it's something that stays there, right, like if you remodel your kitchen. It's like that's what people see. It's not like you can just remodel a kitchen here and trends change.

Speaker 3:

These are the spaces where people are connecting with their family and having those moments and you see it every day when you come home and you want to be happy about what you see. You don't want to be like, oh, I should have changed that tile or I should have gone with this. You want to make sure that you feel happy with it and that it adds value to your home as well, so that it can be a lasting feature experience. So you value to your home as well, so that it can be a lasting, you know feature experience. So you know that if you decide to sell or something that is going to give you the most value for your money, so we for sure take care of our work to do that.

Speaker 3:

We receive great feedback for great reviews because of it, and for me, it's an honor to be spreading the word around, because I know, you know Pal de Maravilla and Philadelphia Villa. They're very busy in the field. They are in the, you know, connecting with clients, building the community. So now that we're, of course, 2025 and you can see all the social media and AI and podcasting and like, we need to share more of the story of what they do. So that's you know I'm coming out to to help share that that as well.
