How to Defeat Fear in Life and Career

Fear is one of the greatest obstacles that tries to block us from pursuing the vision God has placed in our hearts for our lives and careers.

For many years, I wrestled with fear and questioned why I was not seeing progress. Through prayer and seeking God, I came to understand that fear is designed to keep us from stepping into the good works God has prepared for us, and to discourage us from trusting His promises.

I want to encourage you with an insight God has shown me, one that will help you overcome fear and move forward with boldness in the purpose He has ordained for your life.

Every one of us faces fear at some point in our journey, whether in life or in our careers. If we allow fear and negative thoughts to take root, we can begin to doubt not only ourselves but also the faithfulness of God to guide and equip us.

Often, fear begins with small things—perhaps speaking in front of others, stepping out into a new opportunity, or being concerned about the opinions of people around us.

But when you truly grasp your identity in Christ and the authority He has given you, your entire perspective shifts. You begin to see yourself as more than a conqueror, empowered by God to overcome every challenge.

Fear whispers lies such as, 'You are not enough, you will never succeed, or what if you fail?' But God’s Word declares the opposite—He has equipped you for every good work.

I share openly from my own journey, having moved from being tormented by fear to walking in the freedom and confidence that comes from trusting God’s Word and His faithfulness. Through Scripture and real-life experience, I have seen God transform fear into courage.

God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind. To overcome fear, begin by identifying its source. Stand firm in your faith, surrender your anxieties to the Lord, and resist every negative influence with the truth of God’s Word. Take practical steps to care for your spirit, soul, and body. Guard your heart, remove anything that hinders your walk with God, stay focused on His promises, and choose faith over fear every day.

Today, I encourage you to take a step of faith, trusting God to help you overcome fear and move forward with confidence in the purpose He has called you to fulfill.

Living Under Fear For Decades

Tony

journey. How to defeat fear. For over five decades, I was tormented by fear. Tormented by would I have enough? Would I be able to measure up? Fear of this and fear of that. So many fears. You know what I mean. You know a fear that besets you all the time. But God says He has not given you the spirit of fear, but of power, love, and sound mind. I just realized that truth in the last couple of years. I knew it and I have practiced it, but now it's ingrained in who I am, in my spirit, my soul, and my body. And I just feel compelled by God to share it with you because God wants you free from fear. And God says He's given you victory over

fear. So number one, step number one is knowing what God's will is in any situation. If you don't know what God's will is, don't move out. But once you know what God's will is, you move forward with confidence and boldness and assurance that God's power, omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent God, is with you to accomplish it. So number one, God has not given you the spirit of fear, but of power, love, and sound mind. It's found in 2 Timothy, the first chapter, verse number 7. So recite it, rehearse it aloud. God has not given me the spirit of fear, but of power, love, and sound mind. If you've made Jesus your savior and your Lord, his spirit lives on the inside of you to give you that power that he talks about, to give you that love and that sound mind that's needed to defeat fear. And that's what he's given every soul, every man and woman who said, Yes, I want you, Jesus, to be my savior and my Lord. Boy and girl, man and woman, all around the world. So that's step number one, knowing what God's will is victory over fear.

Where Fear Really Comes From

Tony

Number two, knowing where does it come from? God has not given you the spirit of fear, but Satan uses a spirit of fear to hold people back, to keep people captive from stepping boldly into the plan and vision that God has for them, the good things that God holds in store for them. He's already provided it, but we have to go get it. And so Satan uses fear, fear of what people might say, fear of failure, fear of success, even, to hold us back. And so once we know that he is our adversary, and the Bible says your adversary prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone who he can destroy. Resist him steadfast in the faith. So God says, I want you to know who gives you this fear that overcomes you, this fear that wants to hold you back. It's Satan. And we're supposed to resist him steadfast in our faith. And so now that we know that the enemy is attacking us, we can resist him. So how do we resist him? God gave me the answer, and here it is. Let me share it with you. We are to resist him. But step number one before that, we submit to God, then we resist

the devil and he must flee. Listen to what it says. Therefore, submit to God, resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. What does that mean? For me, what it means, and I share it with you, I first had to submit to God. What does submit God to God mean? It means, Lord, Father God, I know that you want the very best for me. Therefore, I submit myself, I surrender myself to your leadership, your plan, your will, your purpose for my life. And I receive Jesus as my Savior and my Lord. When you make that declaration, that very moment you make that declaration, the Holy Spirit of God comes to live on the inside of you and me. And so if you've done that, the Spirit of God, the Holy Spirit lives inside you. And that's where the power comes from. Power, love, and sound mind that are yours and mine for the exercising whenever we're needed, whenever and wherever it's needed in the name of Jesus. So we submit to God, understanding who we are in God, in Jesus, and we resist the devil, and he will flee. He will flee. He might not flee, maybe he'll flee. No, he says, therefore, submit to God, resist the devil, and

he will flee from you. Well, how do you do that? First, you cleanse your hands, you remove anything from your life that you know is not pleasing to God, that may be a hindrance to you in your relationship with God. The Holy Spirit will let you know what it might be. And then he says, Purify your hearts. Have one heart toward God, not a divided heart, not a somewhat surrendered heart, but one heart toward God. That means that He is everything. He is 100% occupying your heart. And you double-minded. We cannot believe God and have doubt. We have to believe Him. Jesus said, fear not, only believe. Fear not, only believe. Once again, you see how Jesus tells us, don't fear, only believe. So that's what we have to do. Submit to God, resist Him. How do you resist Satan? Well, here, let's practice. Satan, in the name of Jesus, spirit of fear, in the name of Jesus, I command you to depart from me. For God has not given me the spirit of fear, but of power, love and sound mind. Thank you, Father God. You have given me power, love, and sound mind, and I'm doing what you commanded me to do. I'm submitting to you and I'm resisting the devil, and in the name of Jesus, Satan, you must flee. When you take that attitude, that mindset, and when you begin to proclaim that, watch what's going to happen. I've begun to practice this now for over a decade. And I tell you, my friends, if God said it, it's true. If you apply it and believe it, it will come to pass. And so I'm sharing with you what God has placed on my heart to share with you.

Perfect Peace Through A Stayed Mind

Tony

Finally, our mindset has to be stayed on God. Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you because he trusts in you. Isaiah 26, verse 3. Our minds have to be permeated with God. What has God said? And we have to recite and meditate on what God has promised us. And when we do that, we gain this victorious mindset. And when we proclaim it in faith, resisting the devil steadfast in our faith, he will flee from you. And you will begin to enjoy a life of freedom. You will begin to enjoy a life filled with victory over fear. And you'll walk differently. You'll enjoy the abundant life that God has given you. The thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy. One of his tools, fear. But Jesus said, I have come that you may have life and have it more abundantly. This means abundantly in the workplace. This means abundantly in your home. This means abundantly in your relationships. You cannot

keep God from blessing all these areas of your life when you believe. Jesus said, Fear not, but only believe. And Father, we're going to do just what you said. Jesus, we're going to fear not, only believe. And I thank you, and I proclaim the freedom. I proclaim victory over fear for my brothers and my sisters and all the listeners who will apply this truth to their lives and careers. In Jesus' name. Amen.
