Speaker 2:Ever heard of a design build, but not quite sure how it stacks up against traditional construction. Design build, but not quite sure how it stacks up against traditional construction. Well, breaking it down today fewer headaches, more teamwork and a streamlined process that keeps your project moving smooth. Welcome back everyone, tony Hill's co-host producer, back in the studio with Alex Cozley. Alex, how's it?
Speaker 3:going. I'm doing great today and yourself, Tony, Awesome awesome.
Speaker 2:So, Alex, what is a design build service and how does it differ from traditional construction methods?
Speaker 3:Yeah, great question, tony, and it's one that a lot of homeowners, developers, business owners ask when starting a new project. The so-called traditional route, where you hire an architect to design the plans and then bring in a contractor to build them, has been the industry standard for decades. But design build takes a different approach and for a lot of people it really is a game changer. The biggest difference really is just collaboration from day one. In traditional model you might spend months designing a perfect project with an architect, only to find out later it's way over budget or there are structural or permitting issues that weren't fully considered. With the design build form, you're getting architects, designers and builders working together as a single team from the very beginning. This means that the design is created with real construction costs and feasibility in mind, so there are fewer surprises, delays and budget blowouts. Another huge advantage with design-build is accountability. In the traditional approach, if something goes wrong, like a crossover run or a design swap, you can get a lot of finger pointing the architect might blame the contractor, the contractor blames the architect and you, the client, are stuck in the middle. But with design-build it's all one team. That means they own the process from concept to completion and the accountability leads to smoother communication through headaches and a more efficient project.
Speaker 3:Then there's the issue of speed. Since design and construction are integrated, a design built from like, stream-home construction can start with bank permits, site prep and even some construction elements, while finalizing design details. The overlap between design and construction can shave weeks or months off of a project timeline, compared to the traditional method, where everything happens in rigid phases. And in regards to cost savings, because a design-build contractor is considering your budget from the start, we can guide that process and those decisions that are made through the process, helping you take better selections, material choices and construction methods that align with your goals and your financial limit. You're not locked into a design that might be out of reach. We're creating a vision that's realistic from the outset. So, whether you're building a custom home, a commercial space or doing a major renovation, a design build offers a more seamless, cost-effective and more accountable way to get the idea to a finished project and, at the end of the day, that's what really matters is getting the project done right on time and on budget with as little stress as possible.
Speaker 2:Okay, so does this mean fewer lost in translation moments between architects and builders, or are we still playing a game of construction charades?
Speaker 3:Tony, that's right. Yes, having the integrated team. Again, it's not he said, she said it's we're the team. You're talking to one person, one project manager, and all that information is coming back to report between a client and one of our project managers. So there's not things getting lost in translation. Everything's centralized and streamlined.
Speaker 2:Okay. If design build is like a one-stop shop, does that make traditional construction, the assemble yourself furniture of home projects?
Speaker 3:Yeah, it could be the traditional method. Design build has definitely seen a major uptick across the United States and globally. Design build has definitely seen a major uptick, you know, across the United States and really globally.
Speaker 2:It just is a newer way to do things With current technology that's coming out, I believe that we're going to see a lot more design build, streamline firms and scheme the traditional route going by the wayside in the long term. Okay, be honest. Will the design build team still pretend to like my purchase board ideas, or will there be a profile way to say that's a bad idea?
Speaker 3:That's funny. Good question, tony. We definitely don't design our customers who we're serving. You know we're not designing for our own taste. We like to design things that we think look good. You know we put it on our website and show to other people and reflect our company well. However, you know, what I think best reflects our company is really serving our customers and making sure they're satisfied, and it doesn't mean we won't offer our two cents.
Speaker 3:We try to be sensitive and have these conversations in a tactful way and if we think something may look weird or may not be ergonomically functional, we want to let the client know that ahead of time and say we get where you're coming from, but maybe you didn't want to consider this perspective. And say we get where you're coming from, but maybe you didn't want to consider this perspective. But ultimately we will provide all the guidance and our feedback on decisions and design parameters. But, like I said, ultimately our number one mission is to satisfy our clients and if they want something that other people might think is weird or we think is weird or whatever, we want to deliver them what they want but also provide them with some guidance along the way to make sure that it's constructible and it's ergonomical, at the very least.
Speaker 2:Love it, Alex. We'll catch you in the next episode. Have a fantastic rest of your day.
Speaker 3:Awesome, you too. Thank you, tony.
