Membership Flexibility at Cohesive Movement Center: Breaking Down Barriers to Aerial Athletics

Coach Jill Atkinson & Coach Rosie Wandell Episode 3

What’s The Deal With Memberships?

Wondering if aerial training is accessible without "signing your soul away"? Coaches Jill and Rosie address this common concern with refreshing honesty while unveiling the philosophy behind Cohesive Movement Center's unique membership model.

The coaches reveal how their approach fundamentally differs from traditional studio spaces. Rather than limiting athletes to rigid class schedules, CMC provides members with key card access 16.5 hours daily, allowing training on your terms. This revolutionary approach empowers aerial athletes to progress at their pace while maintaining crucial safety standards. Jill and Rosie explain their careful balance of autonomy and responsibility—members enjoy unprecedented freedom while receiving proper education about what they can safely practice independently.

Privacy emerges as another cornerstone of their philosophy. Unlike many fitness spaces, CMC prioritizes discretion, never posting content featuring members without explicit permission. This creates a sanctuary where professionals from all walks of life can train without concerns about unwanted exposure. The coaches also detail their innovative course structure, from novice fundamentals to advanced professional techniques, complete with weekly descriptions that eliminate guessing games about what to expect. For those hesitant about starting because they lack strength or flexibility, there's reassuring news: their comprehensive program includes specifically designed cross-training methods to build necessary physical capabilities alongside technical skills.

Speaker 1:

Welcome to the Join the Movement podcast with Cohesive Movement Center, where aerial athletes train, inspire and push the limits of movement. Hosted by Coach Jill Atkinson and Coach Rosie Wandel, we dive into the art, science and passion behind aerial training. Whether you're a seasoned athlete or just starting your journey, we're here to lift you higher. Let's get moving.

Speaker 2:

Commitment issues. We get it when it comes to aerial training. Some people want to dip their toes in, while others want to fly full time. Coaches Jill Adkins and Rosie Wandell break down membership options, how they work for all skill levels and why you will have to trade your soul for unlimited classes. Welcome back everyone. I'm Smofia Yagatwowo, slash producer. Back in the studio. We've coached Julie Adkins and Rosie Wandale. Jill and Rosie, how's it going today? Really great, great. So, jill and Rosie, what's the deal with memberships? Do I have to sign my life away and how do you accommodate different skill levels from newbies to newbies?

Speaker 3:

I love it. No, you do not need to give us your soul. We're not in the business of taking souls these days, at least not yet. So the difference that we have and that we decided to come with our mission for the community, is a true membership base. We actually do not staff our center full time. So the reason we have a membership with regard to liability waivers, all the things is because we need to make sure that you are set appropriately, understand the safety of the current level and where you are in your journey and what you can safely do if you are left unsupervised, so that you also understand that safety first. That is the reason. So, by all means, you are not signing your life away, of course. That is the reason. So, by all means, you are not signing your life away. But we also, just as any other gym or training center, you are going to sign some necessary documents that basically say that you understand that you're grown and you can make decisions and we don't want you to face plant it on your own watch. So that's basically the gist of it. So it's not sending your life away.

Speaker 3:

We also take pride in privacy, and privacy is very important to us.

Speaker 3:

No one will know that you are in our space unless you put it out there, and we will happily share things if you tag us in social media posts.

Speaker 3:

But we do not post things on your behalf because we do have clients that are in several factors of their own careers, lives, all the things and so we do not post social media content.

Speaker 3:

We do host community events where photos may be taken, so we do ask for a waiver to be signed with regard to that, because those are things that are community-based, that we would like to promote. So there are certain times that we will promote things. So the membership base also makes you and gives you the understanding and everybody meets in the middle to understand that you know that your membership is 16 and a half hours a day. You have a key card that you are responsible for, which is going to allow you to get in and out of our center as you choose. It also allows you the access to our gym, also allows you access to our aerial training apparatuses, as well as our competition space and our post-rehab space, as well as our supplement bar. So there's a lot that goes into it, but we educate you along the way to make sure that you also can come in and out of here, understanding where lights are, how to turn things on and off, and most times you may actually train in here by yourself.

Speaker 4:

Exactly, and we have house rules letting everybody know to leave it better. Then you found it, found it.

Speaker 2:

So, jill and Rosie, what types of membership options do you offer and how flexible are they for different commitment levels?

Speaker 3:

Okay, Everybody gets the same commitment as far as what their key card offers them. So your key card pass offers you 16 and a half hours each and every day, seven days a week, which is between the hours of 530 am and 10 o'clock pm is when those key cards will work. It is up to you whether you choose your time, that you're coming in. We do have some structured time. This is always going to be a continually functioning space where, even if there is a course happening as a member, you can still come in here and train on aerial apparatuses and or work out in our gym atmosphere as well while things are happening here. So that is another thing that makes us different from a local studio space. You would be able to only take that class and then off you go. Here we offer a little bit of a different, more flexible environment. For that reason, Jill and Rosie.

Speaker 2:

How do you structure classes to ensure that beginners feel supported while advanced students, who fail to be challenged, feel supported while advanced students?

Speaker 3:

who fail to be challenged. So we are offering fundamentals courses from novice, which is our beginners, to our advanced, which are more or less our professionals. With regard to that, there's also our intermediate, which is our intermediate. So, with regard to that, if you've never walked into a aerial studio in your life, we do have fundamentals courses that are introductory. Gives you the language and the verbiage that you need to know to develop that language of pole dance. Also helps you to get familiar with terms, with what things are inside, outside, up and down, and jumping all the things side, outside up and down and jumping all the things. And that also then leads into our more professional slash, advanced members also gives them the ability to go backwards, so we allow people to slide that scale from beginner to advanced, advanced back down to beginner.

Speaker 2:

And what advice would you give someone hesitant about joining because they think they're not strong enough or not flexible enough for aerial training?

Speaker 4:

We have a lot of people in that position right now and what we do is we explain and go through with them what they're going to be learning. Basically. They're going everyone is going to learn the true flexibility of the particular moves that they're going to be doing in throughout the coursework. They're going to learn the true flexibility of the particular moves that they're going to be doing in throughout the coursework. They're going to be taught through their cross-training methods of what is going to be needed to help them do a particular move. That's part of our performance coaching that we are going to encourage them and show them the way from beginning to end and then afterwards getting them utilizing the post type of workout supplement and nutrition. A lot of it is all combined together and we do have. We have had a lot of hesitance, but a lot of people are really excited about this starting.

Speaker 3:

And the other positive is, once you become a member, you have access to sign up for these courses. Yeah, and every week. So we run these courses. Our intro course is four weeks. Every other course we run is six weeks. Each week has a description online.

Speaker 3:

So once you become a member, you have access to these particular programs and every program week was going to tell you exactly what you're signing up for, so you can know, walking in the door and have some comfortable level of understanding. Okay, I'm going to walk in the door and this is what I'm expecting this week. Do I need to bring socks? Do I need to bring leg warmers? Do I need to bring pants? Should I bring shorts and should I bring knee pads or shoes? So it prepares the person who's coming in for that particular course week on what to expect. Because we also find that something that's missing is the guessing game of when you walk into a studio space, of what to expect for your course, their class, that day. We actually have this already scheduled out for you, so you know what to expect when you walk in the door.

Speaker 2:

Coaches Jill and Rosie. I really appreciate you being on the show. We'll catch you in the next episode. Have a fantastic rest of your day. Thank you so much. Bye, bye.
