Athena Hope:

Hello everyone, welcome to the Transgenders at War podcast, the show that focuses on transgender people, politics and how transgender people are affected by it. I'm your host, athena Hope. In today's episode, we will be talking about a very charming lady who goes by the name of Nancy Mace. Now, nancy Mace isn't your typical cold-hearted, mean-spirited Republican. Nancy Mace is someone who will go out of her way just to spread as much hate as possible. Please be aware that this episode may contain a trigger warning for abusive language. Let's get started. Let's take a moment to get to know Nancy Mace.

Nancy Mace:

USAID awarded $2 million to strengthen trans-led organizations to deliver gender-affirming health care in Guatemala. So to each of you this morning, does this advance the interests of American citizens paying for trannies in Guatemala to the tune of $2 million?

Speaker 3:

Mr Chairman, parliamentary inquiry. Yes, sir Um the gentlelady has used a phrase that is considered a slur in the LGBTQ community and the transgender community. Let me please finish without interruption.

Nancy Mace:

Tranny, tranny, tranny. I don't really care. You want penises in women's bathrooms and I'm not going to have it. Okay, no, thank you Wow.

Athena Hope:

Believe it or not, that's a member of Congress. Nancy Mace has faced no consequences for her hateful rhetoric. In fact, her followers praise her so-called bravery. But let's be clear targeting a vulnerable minority is not brave, it's cowardly. Nancy isn't a special case. She's just more vocal about the sentiments many Republicans hold but are too afraid to express openly. By normalizing hate, she's breaking down barriers in the worst way possible. Let's take a look at the history of Nancy Mace and see what her endgame is.

Athena Hope:

Nancy Mace was elected to Congress in 2020, representing the South Carolina's first congressional district. Initially, she presented herself as a progressive Republican, even supporting LGBT rights, and helped create legislation like the Serving Our LGBT Veterans Act. But Nancy realized very quick that progressiveness doesn't get you very far. In the Republican Party, her positions did a complete 180, aligning with the party's core stances. She became a vocal advocate for restricting transgender rights, using her platform to promote anti-trans legislation. This shift isn't about principles, it's about political power. She has never actually cared about making the world a better place. Nancy Mace has shown that she's willing to sacrifice her supposed values to gain influence and appease the Republican base. She makes it very clear that you don't make it very far as a Republican, unless you take the hate in your heart and find the most creative ways to hurt minorities with it. Nancy often wears large, elegant Christian cross earrings, a symbol of her faith. But let's not be fooled.

Athena Hope:

Throughout history, religion has been used to control and manipulate populations. Those in power use religious symbols to present themselves as moral authorities, while acting in ways that are anything but compassionate. Throughout all of humanity, governments have always used religion as a way to control and pacify the population, but do not let them deceive you. They may wear their crosses quoting inspiring verses saying how much they love and care for everyone, but in reality they only care about themselves. If you do not believe in their God, then you are doomed to suffer in hell for all of eternity. They find great joy and feel morally superior to you because you do not believe in their fairy tales.

Athena Hope:

I'm not here to condemn all religions. Religion can be a force for good when it inspires people to do better, but too often it is used as a justification for hatred and division. The Republican Party, which praises itself as the party of Christian values, is a prime example of this hypocrisy. I'm not sure what's scarier someone who pretends to be a Christian to manipulate others or someone who isn't pretending and hurt others because they feel they are morally superior. Religion has been one of the leading causes of all human death in history. Just because one person's fairy tale doesn't exactly match yours, now you have an excuse to kill them.

Athena Hope:

Unsurprisingly, the Republican Party praises themselves to be the Christian Party. This makes it all the more easier to demonize anyone against them. Oh, you don't believe in my God Time to make you suffer, they say. There is no hate like Christian love, and the Republican Party is just full of Christian love. They use their beliefs to control women, denying them the right to make decisions about their own bodies. They spread hate and intolerance, all while claiming to act in the name of love.

Athena Hope:

It's a twisted form of morality that has no place in our society. I don't give a fuck what your God likes or doesn't like. I don't believe you should be able to use your beliefs to control other people. Our society must focus more on science and things we can actually see. We need to focus on the people here on earth, not some afterlife paradise you came up with in your head that you can go to only if you hurt enough people. We need to focus on logic and empathy, not on divisive beliefs that cause harm. Religion has a strong hold on this country, and it's time we break free from its grip. Since religion wants to be involved in our government so much, we need to start taxing them instead of allowing billionaire Christian elites to be created through megachurches that they collect money from tax-free. I'm starting to get a little off-topic here, but we will definitely talk more about this in a future episode.

Athena Hope:

Let's get back to Nancy Mace. One of Nancy's most Christian and loving actions was how she treated her new minority co-worker. Meet Sarah McBride, the woman who will forever go down in history as the first transgender person to serve in Congress. Congress is a place where we are supposed to come to an understanding with each other in order to create laws that benefit all Americans. Sadly, someone being transgender is still off the table for a lot of people with hate in their hearts. When Sarah McBride joined Congress, it threw the Republicans into an uproar. They became so upset you would have thought the world was ending, but it didn't end. Something worse happened. A scary transgender person is now eating at the same table as them, and they are absolutely disgusted. It's okay, though, because Nancy Mace was somehow able to summon up the courage to deal with the threat.

Athena Hope:

Nancy Mace led the Republicans by creating one of the most anti-transgender bills ever made. Her bill wants to mandate that every single federal property is segregated by biological sex rather than gender, defining biological sex as the production of eggs or sperm. Federal property is defined as any building, land or other property owned, leased or occupied by any department, agency or instrumentality of the United States. This includes cultural landmarks such as the Smithsonian Museums, the National Gallery of Art and the National Zoo, as well as military bases, va hospitals and federal government buildings, as well as every single airport. This bill not only affects every single transgender American, but it also affects all international travelers.

Athena Hope:

You may wonder how could they possibly enforce such a ban? Are you supposed to check every single woman who doesn't appear as their gender? How do you determine who is woman enough and who isn't? Some transgender women pass more than cis women do. The same logic applies to transgender men and cis men. The enforcement of such a ban would be a logistical nightmare, leading to harassment and discrimination.

Athena Hope:

Nancy Mace has quoted the following it is offensive that a man in a skirt could ever think she's my equal, that her challenges are the same as mine. They're not. She's forcing her genitals into women's restrooms, into dressing rooms, into locker rooms. It's sick, it's twisted. Nancy Mace has made it clear that she views transgender people as a threat, using inflammatory language to stroke fear and division. But her obsession with genitalia is not only invasive, it's irrelevant. Transgender people deserve dignity and respect, not to be reduced down to their anatomy. I think Republicans' obsession with genitalia is getting a little scary. Now you are assuming you know Sarah McBride's genitalia based on her assigned gender of birth. However, transgender people can get the genitalia that matches their gender identity. So what she has is her business and hers alone.

Athena Hope:

It feels creepy to even talk about, but this is one of the Republicans' favorite subjects. The nationwide ban will not only hurt trans people, but it will most likely hurt a lot more cisgender people. When you have a ban like this, you are saying that if you do not look like how a Republican wants you to look, then you might be trans. Suppose a cisgender woman has muscles or slightly broad shoulders. In that case she will be accused and harassed thanks to these anti-trans policies. I find it amazing how fast the Republicans all came into agreement. The second, a transgender person came into Congress. It's incredible how much energy they have for what is only 1% of the population. Donald Trump has spent millions on anti-transgender and anti-LGBT ads for his presidential campaign. There's a reason Republicans want everyone to focus on this.

Athena Hope:

The Republican Party fixation on transgender issues is a distraction from their failure to address real problems. They use cultural wars to divide us, creating issues where none exist to avoid accountability for their lack of progress. As of right now, republicans control the presidency, the House and the Senate. They should be able to make America great again, as they promised us. What is their excuse not to? This is exactly why they jump on these very small cultural issues and talk so much about bathrooms and who can use what pronouns.

Athena Hope:

The point of being a Republican isn't to make life better for Americans. The point is cruelty and hatred against minorities. And how do they keep getting away with it? By blaming everybody else. Donald Trump recently tweeted that quote Biden inflation is up. How the hell is Biden inflation up when you've been in control for over a month now? Accountability is a word Republicans do not know. The Republican Speaker of the House, mike Johnson, is quoted as saying For anyone who doesn't know my established record on this issue. Let me be unequivocally clear A man is a man and a woman is a woman, and a man cannot become a woman. While Republicans focus on bathrooms and pronouns, real Americans like Sarah McBride are making positive changes. Sarah championed a bill that provides paid leave for workers caring for a new child or dealing with a family emergency. This is the kind of progress we need, not hateful rhetoric and divisive policies.

Athena Hope:

And how do the Democrats respond to the very hostile treatment of transgender people that we are seeing? They are almost entirely mute. They claim to support transgender rights but fail to take meaningful action. The Democrat Party is spineless and has lost who they are. We need leaders who will stand up for what's right, not just pay lip service to gain votes. I voted for Kamala Harris because anyone is better than a literal Nazi as president. But Kamala is not a champion for trans and gay rights. She is just someone who won't actively take our rights away. But that is just the bare minimum. The Democrats of today are ashamed to have transgender people on their side. They do not defend us or retaliate when you have congresswomen yelling tranny and passing nonsensical laws.

Athena Hope:

There are mainly three Democrats who have shown true leadership and became warriors, not only for transgender people but for all Americans. They are Bernie Sanders, alexandria Cortez and Representative Jasmine Crockett. There may be more Democrats I'm missing, but these three are the ones I always see relentlessly fighting to make positive change. They fight tirelessly for all Americans, not just those who fit a certain mold. But the system is designed to keep us divided. The top 1% elites benefits from our infighting, hoarding wealth while the working class suffers. It's time for a change, not more partisan bickering. The time for parties has passed. We don't need a party. We need a revolution. Everything is just a distraction from the fact that the top 1% is hoarding all the wealth away and keeping the working class poor, confused and angry at each other. America needs to wake up to realize who the enemy is, and it's not trans people.

Athena Hope:
