Don't you know? Talking about a revolution sounds like a whisper.
Speaker 2:If you feel diminished, dismissed, brushed aside, to be seen but not heard, then this podcast is for you. In Silent Voices Whisper, we believe it is time to take a stand. I'm Cassie Chandler Talking about a revolution. Oh, no, time to take a stand. I'm Cassie Chandler, my Hometown America.
Speaker 2:A few years ago, I moved to a small town in central North Carolina. It's a former mail town of about 13,000 people. It's a former mail town of about 13,000 people. It includes several New York Times bestselling writers, wonderful artists, university professors and a mix of many different backgrounds and skills.
Speaker 2:My hometown America is not an overly fancy place. The homes are generally cottages or small to medium-sized houses. There are mostly family-owned restaurants and stores, and a tree-lined walking path curves along a small winding river to encourage residents to take a walk from their neighborhoods to the local stores and to the supermarket. It is the home of people from all walks of life, different races, faiths, genders, political backgrounds and immigrants from all around the world. I see America in the faces of the people who live here. I hear the voices of America in their voices.
Speaker 2:Now in my neighborhood there is a community center where many of us gather every Tuesday to share a meal and camaraderie. It is at this time that we might check in on our neighbors and make sure all is well, or we might celebrate the birthday of one of the young children, or perhaps, you know, learn how one neighbor's composting or gardening tips might be useful to another. Like the town itself, the people who attend this weekly dinner come from all walks of life. They are America, and so at the last dinner, I asked them this what are your thoughts about our America today and what, if anything, would you like to say to a neighbor? Let me share some of their voices.
Speaker 3:What makes America special and beautiful is the diversity. So don't be swayed by what's going on right now, and enjoy and embrace immigrants. Everybody, the multicultural and that's what built America are the immigrants.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I second that, well said.
Speaker 4:I want to say that I'm really grateful for my neighbors and just the smile goes a really long way, and it feels really chaotic right now for all of us, but I think chaos comes before a reorganization into a better possibility, whatever that is for you.
Speaker 1:I think America today feels really scary and I would like to say to my neighbors that we let's continue to look out for each other and prioritize each other's safety and well-being over money and greed, and I think we can come through a stronger country as we have before. It's gonna gonna be tough.
Speaker 6:Don't be complacent.
Speaker 1:What's the state of economy today?
Speaker 4:To my neighbors I'd like to say even if I've never met you, I care about you.
Speaker 2:I'd like to tell to everyone look, at the world as a whole and don't think too much about yourself. I think in America we are thinking too much about ourselves only.
Speaker 5:America's strength is its people and the freedom that they have to express themselves as individuals, and it's important that we maintain that by respecting each other, regardless of our background, or our faith or socioeconomic status.
Speaker 2:You may have noticed that among this group, no one became angry. There were no bullying tactics or hateful comments or people even pushing political agendas. These were the voices of America, the voices of those who still seek kindness, still want what is best for all and who still remain hopeful. Take a stand, America. Take a stand for hope.
Speaker 6:So that's it for today's episode of Silent Voices Whisper hope. So that's it for today's episode of Silent Voices Whisper.
