Ep 75 : Overrated Movies

The PickMaster General needed some panel input regarding overrated movies presumably as he/she anticipated some wet summer days with his/her little pickles. Setting such a challenge to Martin, Gareth and Andy was deemed a little too risky so PMG again drafted an authoritarian figure to keep the captive panel in line. A warm welcome back to 'Queen Victoria' as she is tasked with leading the panel to deliver some cohesive thoughts.

Three men with three decades of separation debate three tough choices every week. This is the Pick Three Show. Welcome to another episode of the most popular podcast produced by Pick Three Media with listeners across the globe who tune in each week to see what challenge the Pickmaster General has thrown at his Stroke her panel of experts. Carefully selected to ensure three decades of separation, which enables a much more diverse range of opinions, PMG always says there are no wrong answers, but as the panel regularly prove, there are plenty of dodgy opinions. Today, as we record, the summer holidays for children are about to start, and parents across the land realize that they are now responsible for their own kids until late August. With the Northern Ireland weather currently scorching, outside activities are favourite, but as we all know, the weather can change course with little warning. The PMG has obviously been thinking about what his stroke her summer options are for their brood of pick and mix, and is trying to load up on good movie options that might be watched if the weather turns. Asking the panel for help by selecting our top three most overrated movies allows the PMG to avoid a dud selection later on. This is a bold move by the PMG because Gareth is a movie snob, refusing to watch anything with a score of less than seven on IMDB. And he is trapped in an endless cycle of animated classics, albeit that might play into the PMG's actual issue. And Martin is perceived to be endlessly chasing orcs across the New Zealand countryside. With this in mind, the PMG sought to bring in some class, someone with a female perspective and sensibility, someone who understands how to assert their opinion when the debate gets sparky. However, after an extensive search and several refusals, PMG built back to an old friend of the show, Victoria, aka Queen Victoria, who has some of the attributes required. We have chosen to record over a Lovazzo coffee here in the foyer of Cine World Belfast, which is Northern Ireland's premier cinema facility and also very close to where Victoria works. So afternoon, all how are we feeling about today's task? Lovazzo. It's like a brand of Italian coffee, isn't it? Is it Lovatta? Tis. Yeah. Right next door is Lovazzo, which is a good brand.
SPEAKER_04We've gone for the cheaper one because do you prefer Victoria Square cinema to this one at the Odyssey?
SPEAKER_02I'm an Avenue fan.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, Avenue's good.
SPEAKER_06A lot of older people like the Avenue.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, like I get getting my food brought to me. Lovely.
SPEAKER_06You really do like just to do almost nothing. You like it just life handed to you on a plate.
SPEAKER_02Well, I like I if I get free entrance into the cinemas, I'd I like it better. Yeah. So uh Victoria. One one would agree with that.
SPEAKER_06I think I think he's trying to make a point. I don't know what the point is. Anyway, today's subject, overrated movies. What do you think? Tough choice?
SPEAKER_02Easy because most will be Oscar-winning films.
SPEAKER_04Do you know what? I opted out of Oscar Well film films because 90% of the last 15 years I couldn't tell you what's an Oscar Wenn film or something.
SPEAKER_02I know, but they'd say, oh, it's a fabulous film with all the Oscars, like you know, English patient and that type of stuff. Horrendous.
SPEAKER_06I stuck to a particular rule when putting my list together, and they were movies that I had actually seen. Because when I was doing a little bit of research, it's amazing how many people state it's an overrated movie and I've never watched it. And I'm going, Well, I don't think you can genuinely judge if you've never actually watched any aspect of the movie as far as I'm concerned. So this afternoon we're going to do things a little different. We're going to be polite. The PMG has sent us a guest. They have said this is the person we want to actually take more cognizance of in this particular episode. So first up today will be Victoria. And I know again, if you'd done English at school, you'd have understood things like cognizant. It was my first language.
SPEAKER_02But you're you're 1% Italian. That's exactly right. So I presume it's Italian.
SPEAKER_00That's how I knew the difference between Lovato.
SPEAKER_02That's why I try to teach you a little bit. And today you have.
SPEAKER_06I will never again refer to Lovetta as Lovazzo. Exactly. Until I find out you're wrong, in which case I'm going to tell you. He's straight up.
SPEAKER_04Second you leave this house, he just runs up the stairs.
SPEAKER_06He's at the cine. He's not at the house. Oh sorry, the house. The house of coffee. It's a house of coffee here at Cine World Belfast. Victoria, your third choice for an overrated movie.
SPEAKER_00Well, buongiorno. And uh firstly, thank you very much for having me back. I wasn't sure after the last episode I did whether that would actually happen ever again. So yeah.
SPEAKER_02Well do we just made us? Yeah. We just wonder are you gonna come up with a load of foreign films here that we've never heard of?
SPEAKER_06She does have a tendency when she sends us stuff. There's always something that all of us look at each other and go, you heard of that?
SPEAKER_00No, definitely not gonna happen in this category.
SPEAKER_06Better educate. But remember, Victoria's education has been from right around the world. She's not a girl who just got stuck in Hollywood.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Or not only her education, but her teenage holidays, as we found out as well.
SPEAKER_06I'm telling you, if you want to paddle up the Orinoco on that one, on you go.
SPEAKER_00That's the second time out this week I've heard Orinoco referred to.
SPEAKER_06Was the other one in connection with the song, Orinoco Flows?
SPEAKER_00No, it was in connection with a TV show, but anyway.
SPEAKER_06Okay.
SPEAKER_00So unlike you, I actually found this really difficult as a topic. I initially I thought, oh, overrated films, that's easy. And, you know, I don't have a tendency to overthink things that's a lie, you know, I do. Um so five hours later, after I started thinking about this, I'd questioned what does overrated actually mean? I'd looked at critics' choices, audience scores, wonder whether Oscar wins should count. Briefly considered doing a scoring matrix and disappeared down so many rabbit holes, I nearly nominated the rabbit holes. But then I nearly changed my list entirely to top three films that ruined a franchise, but I think that's a whole episode all on its own.
SPEAKER_06I think it may well be.
SPEAKER_00Um, yeah, so that's a spectacular amount of overthinking. I hope you'll agree. Wouldn't be like me at all.
SPEAKER_06I love all of that, and I love the fact that you've managed to write a second introduction to the whole episode.
SPEAKER_02I'm actually Andy. Better? A lot better. No mistakes either. Yeah. There are no mistakes in the finish product, Andy.
SPEAKER_00So my uh third choice is Lord of the Rings. Just kidding. Just kidding. Just kidding, Martin. I'd have to actually watch it first and decide if it's overrated or not. Um, it's actually Titanic.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_00Now, before some people start throwing things, I think objectively this film is quite good in many ways. Uh James Cameron recreated one of history's greatest disasters with lots of detail. Set work was amazing, the score was really good, visual effects are all really, really good. My issue isn't necessarily with the film, it's with the greatest love story ever told. Rose feeling trapped by the expectations placed on a wealthy woman at the time. Completely believable. But are we are we really supposed to believe that in 1912 a young woman from high society would throw away everything she's ever known after 48 hours with the bloke she just met on a boat? I don't think so.
SPEAKER_02I am in total agreement with you in my number three as well. You got Titanic?
SPEAKER_00Love it. Oh Titanic said two icebergs today.
SPEAKER_06Not just one.
SPEAKER_00Well, and never mind Rose's story and where she comes from, but Jack. I mean, he looks fifteen in the movie. I mean, I know Leonardo DiCaprio wasn't, but he's the face of someone who's still being asked if he'd like the children's menu at dinner.
SPEAKER_02Fifteen hundred deaths and they focus on two people.
SPEAKER_00Two people. And I've had longer conversations than they did at an airport departure lounge.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. Which one and from which country?
SPEAKER_00Several airport, no. Um but I think it just makes it a little bit less believable. And to be fair though, it has given us one of cinema's longest running debates. Could Jack have actually fell on that door?
SPEAKER_02I am totally with you, Victoria. And for the same reasons, whatever, even though we've in Belfast we've built a tourist industry out of the ship that sank. Uh but as I said, it got it was it got out of here okay. It was fine when it left here. I don't know why we keep doing this. And but three hours long, the dialogue in it, I am the king of the world, I will never let you go. All that type of stuff on it. Too much focus on the main characters, and the song you'd say that's the life out of me. I would turn it off if it came on.
SPEAKER_04I quite like Selene, but that's not her finest work.
SPEAKER_02No character development in it, and oh, just eleven Oscars. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06I have never watched it for the simple premise that I know how it ends.
SPEAKER_00Spoiler alert.
SPEAKER_05It's not a big spoiler alert.
SPEAKER_06It's a hundred year plus old spoiler alert. But anyway, look, everything you say about it does not make me want to watch it. No. And yet it still ranks as something like the third highest grossing movie of all time.
SPEAKER_04It's some fantastic numbers.
SPEAKER_06Oh, the numbers are great, which is why he keeps getting to make this stuff. Yeah, because he knocks out a billion, two billion with each movie he makes. But there's a lot of diminishing returns, and we may return to James Cameron in the not too distant future. Excellent choice. That sounded more excitement than I expected to it to generate. Anyway, okay, so uh surprisingly, despite the choice, Victoria hasn't sunk this episode just yet. No. Will be able to go on to your third choice, Andy.
SPEAKER_04Like the heart.
SPEAKER_06It will go on.
SPEAKER_04So my third choice is the opposite of Victoria's a certain way. There's almost too much character development. And it is a movie 1992 release. I remember watching it as a teenager. Everyone said this was one of the best films you'll ever watch. It's so new, it's unique, it's cool. Reservoir Dogs. But I I've never watched it. Tarantino's first film, Independent. It's been cited as one of the best movies ever. Non-linear, the stories piece together, a bit like pop fiction. Yeah. Well, my word. Average at best. Is that right? Oh, not great. I'm not even gonna watch it. It's cool for the sake of being cool in certain areas. It's one of those movies like you ask people, people go, Oh, you have to watch Reservoir Dog. It's fantastic, it's great, it's unique. And I'm gonna watch it going, There's nothing there. And this it was on TV a few weeks ago, and I flicked on. I was like, Can't believe that people actually still watch that now. So number three for me, Reservoir Dogs.
SPEAKER_02I haven't seen it. And then I remember everyone always talked about was there in the ear cut off somewhere? Yeah.
SPEAKER_06What was the soundtrack going on to it at the time, Andy? Uh there's a song in my own. Stuck in the middle with you. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04But did you like it, Martin, when it was I?
SPEAKER_06I spent a bit of time debating with myself. It's the the voices in my head, um, as to whether or not I would list Quentin Tarantino movies in general as being overrated. But then I thought through there's a couple of them I actually like.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, me too.
SPEAKER_06And although they're all, if you look at them all, in every single one of his movies, there's something deeply disturbing. Yes, totally. And there's something that, and we have to be careful because this is a podcast, but I sometimes worry about people who can dream up such ideas as to what they're truly like, and it would just unnerve me sometimes. I think there is times where things have been put in purely for shock value, which is one thing, but what's behind the thought process of it? So I think sometimes Quentin Tarantino, Reservoir Dogs didn't annoy me as much as one or two of the others where I actually find things even more disturbing. Like what? Well, I I think certainly in pop fiction there's a couple of very disturbing bits. There's a very disturbing scene in Kill Bill Part One. I haven't watched it.
SPEAKER_04I haven't seen Kill Bill. I don't know.
SPEAKER_02Well, Kill Bill really high rating.
SPEAKER_06Kill Bill number one is there are two scenes in the front half of it that I was just going I was in the cinema watching it with some mates and I was cringing, going, I'm deeply, deeply uncomfortable with this. Quite like the Hateful Eight, I think. Do you know the story about the Hateful Eight?
SPEAKER_02No.
SPEAKER_06Uh they were in they were doing a scene in the cabin, and I think it's Kurt Russell has to somebody was playing the guitar, and Kurt Russell picked up the guitar and smashed it up, you know, as part of the storyline.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Um but he did it before they put the stunt guitar in. Oh. And what they broke was something like a 100-year-old guitar that was worth something like $70,000. He smashed it up, whereas he was meant to they were meant to have swapped it in and he walked over take that and start smashing it up. And so, but they've kept the original take in, they only had the one take. Yeah, he smashed up the guitar. Oh, it's good. But there you go. But there are a number of uh Quentin Tarantino movies that I think I think he as an individual and as a director is now overrated. I think his myth was I'm only ever going to make ten movies, yeah. And they're all going to be exceptional. And his supposed ability to write dialogue and various other things was what set him apart.
SPEAKER_02But they all become cult. Everyone goes, Oh, they're brilliant. Like Pulp Fiction, a couple of bits in it were good, but story-wise music was very good in it, the character list was good.
SPEAKER_04There was a lot of old uh but then again, they asked the when was the last time you watched it? Oh no. That's a good question, I was thinking to say what? Good movie or not, you'd want to watch it again.
SPEAKER_00The Brad Pitt one and Glorious that one that is a very good movie, but very disturbing in parts as well.
SPEAKER_06Again, well, the opening the opening scene, uh which runs and runs and runs is scary as bajiggins, which I think is well done. But then there's the whole bit about the uh the actual the unit that's out there and how they dispatch people is a little bit disturbing.
SPEAKER_00And I think for that one in particular, you it's more disturbing because you know probably some of those things actually happened and it just makes it that.
SPEAKER_06I think there's a lot of things that happen in war that we don't really get to see or don't want to see. Yeah, totally. Full stop.
SPEAKER_04Number three, uh Reservoir Dogs.
SPEAKER_06On the ears, Martin. Okay, well, because we're bypassing Gareth because he's still his heart is still going on in the Titanic at the moment. Oh, horrendous. Uh I'm going with Apocalypse now. Okay. Uh again, one of the most overrated movies. I remember sitting down to watch it. It's nearly three hours long. And I know you like a Vietnam movie.
SPEAKER_02No, no, but I I actually think you're making a very good point. These are movies that people say to you, Oh, you must see and you sit yourself down and you put yourself through the misery of watching it, and you want to switch off, but you wonder, will something happen? And it doesn't.
SPEAKER_06Well, for the vast majority of that movie, nothing happens. Yeah, I agree. It's incredibly slow, incredibly dull, and then you get to the three or four minutes of which everybody quotes as being fantastic, and uh Charlie, don't surf. And you know, I love the smell of napalm in the morning. You get through all of those things and you go through all of that, and you suddenly realize four minutes and three hours, and the rest of it was turgidly dull, and it was a disastrous movie to make, it nearly broke them all. But the so the reality is Apocalypse Now, which is frequently ranked at the top of people's lists as a great movie. I think it's vastly overrated.
SPEAKER_04No, I don't believe that. What's what's the best Vietnam movie there?
SPEAKER_06On a personal basis, I'm going to get absolutely eaten alive for for actually suggesting, but the one I found the most affecting was bizarrely a Mel Gibson movie called When We Were Soldiers. Okay. Platoon, I like Platoon.
SPEAKER_04Platoon.
SPEAKER_02Again, uh again, a good movie, but uh I like Platoon. I didn't like Full Mother Jack, and Full Mother Jack was just okay.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. Well, there you go. So I would go with but Apocalypse Now, as far as I'm concerned, my number three choice.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_06And you and you try to put yourself through the misery of watching it, that's the worst of I remember sitting down watching it on video, that's how long ago it was, and put it in, and I was thinking, Well, this never ends. I know. I'm just sort of And then you get to meet Marlon Brando, the mad colonel, out in the jungle, and he he talks absolute gibberish for 15 minutes, and it can only show him in shadow because in the time it took them to make the movie Balloon to double the size, and he's he's absolutely bonkered. You know something Deer Hunter was a bit like it as well. I saw it in the cinema. Do you know that the wedding scene in the Deer Hunter lasts 40 minutes? Oh and it I'm going, I I can't I can't be having this. It was dreadful. Anyway, that's my number three choice. Victoria, we've rolled round to you for a little bit of common sense to creep in.
SPEAKER_00Keep rolling.
SPEAKER_06Okay, well we're always optimistic here on the pick three show. We never quite know at what point a guest will bring out a little gem, a bon mo, if you will. That means a good moment, Andy. Yeah, I know. G says E French. Oh, well done. This is what or as we like to say, tribut.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so my number two is American Beauty. So it won't Kevin Spacey. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Uh slightly problematic the minute I say that again. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00I was gonna just uh pass right by that, but you kind of was a wee bit of a problematic movie.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So it was your headphones today.
SPEAKER_02You were all over the place with your headphones.
SPEAKER_06Wild. He's like wearing them like a head button at times. It's I want to move around. Anyway, uh back to American Beauty.
SPEAKER_00So it won Best Picture, and there were some outstanding performances in it. I feel like the cinematography was beautiful, the Thomas Newman score, incredible on a technical level.
SPEAKER_06That's some of his finer work, yes.
SPEAKER_00But I do think it's the definition of an overrated film. Um I think when it was released in 1999.
SPEAKER_06Was that ahead of Kevin Spacey getting released? Oh yep. Carry on. Don't don't let us in interrupt your film.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So people then talked about it as though it had sort of captured the spirit of an entire generation.
SPEAKER_06The zeitgeist, as they like to say.
SPEAKER_00Indeed. Uh I think it was held up as a profound statement about like suburban life, materialism, um, and a search for happiness, and it just wasn't as successful as a film. I think again, it's one of those ones where it's made it to the greatest film of all time list, and you're like, why? Just I just don't get it. It feels like and it's it's dropped off a lot of lists now. So I feel like a lot of people looking back on it, you know, it's not as popular as it was then. You know, it's got a lot of symbolism that isn't exactly subtle in it, like the plastic bag floating down the street. Let's all stare at that for a while. And it almost feels like the film's nudging you. Did you notice that metaphor? You know, because there definitely was a metaphor there.
SPEAKER_06Could you just forget two Gareth's point explain the concept of a metaphor? Yeah, yeah. I think those two I don't know if you're if in your headphones you can hear Andy slightly snore. I I was hoping Andy will ask me what's the pass exactly.
SPEAKER_04Oh no, I'm thinking of my head, that coolie song in it on that computer.
SPEAKER_00I well, I think it's you know, one of those things where you think about overrated movies, you know, I think people talk about it more than actually could describe to you anything about it that is memorable, or you know, and I to me that's the definition of an overrated film.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. That's a good pick. It is. Just before we move on, you're 1% Italian. Yeah. Could you get Betty over there to get us three Libazzo coffees? Could you call out and order them?
SPEAKER_02Oh, do you want to get Andy one? No.
SPEAKER_06Well, we only need three.
SPEAKER_02He's got his own. Oh, true. You probably then. Anyway. Andy. No, me is it not. No. Oh Andy. We're going back out. Okay.
SPEAKER_06What have you got? It's a circle.
SPEAKER_02Go for another throw.
SPEAKER_06Across the circle. Like, think of it as north.
SPEAKER_02I thought he must have gone to the toilet.
SPEAKER_06Think of it as north, south, east, west. And if Victoria is south and you like to view yourself as the North Star, then actually somewhere over there. Hang on a second.
SPEAKER_04He's got an edit himself, I leave. No, no. Carry on. Number two, and this one. Well, annoy a lot of people. I wouldn't say this is a critically acclaimed movie, but it's a family favourite. It is elf.
SPEAKER_00I am so 1000% with you.
SPEAKER_04Will Farrell is a human in the North Pole, work with Elves, and goes to find his real father in New York. Every year, Nicole will be, Oh, the kids want to watch Elf. And I sit there, I don't pay attention to any bit. And the kids, oh, this is great, terrible movie. I'm with you on that. People absolutely love it.
SPEAKER_00I love the concept. It just will Farrell just no, I can't.
SPEAKER_04I think you're probably right. Actually, looking back, the concept is fine. Will Farrell just doesn't work. And it is one that people every year put in the same bracket as the classic Christmas. Too tall.
SPEAKER_00Too tall. It's height. I know. But it just, you know. I think that's the point.
SPEAKER_02I think we're used to it. We were used to Dudley Merge. Remember Dudley Merge? Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_06Do you think Will Will Smith is taking work in Hollywood from actors who are of shorter statue who's not taking work from anyone?
SPEAKER_02And what about Will Smith? Will Smith? Or Will Farrell. Will Farrell.
SPEAKER_06Did I say Will Smith? Yeah, that's a compelling idea. That's a completely different argument. That's Chris Rock again. He's done that to me. He's done me at the knees again.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I think it's again everyone goes, Oh, we must go watch Elf at Christmas that time. I go, I'd have to watch it again. And actually And you drift in and out of it. Yeah. When you're watching it, you go, Oh, there's a movie bit really bad.
SPEAKER_04So it it's a great pick. The camp of like the critically accumulated ones where people go, oh, Oscar wins all. This falls into the family favourites where you go, I should like it because everyone's telling me I should like it, but actually, no, I don't get it anyway. Anyway, what do you what do you think, Martin?
SPEAKER_06Never seen it. Never watched it. There's something about it. Every year I look at it. Christmas. Shouldn't have a center problem with it. No, no, no. I'm a great fan of Christmas as such and the real meaning of Christmas, Gareth, as opposed to your materialistic approach to the whole thing, which is all about presents, present, presents. Bob Cartent. But I've just never brought myself to watch it. And again, the fact that I think it is overhyped that people keep talking about it so much. I just have never actually got around to watching it. I'd far rather have Bing Crosby and Danny Kay and White Christmas. 100%. Which is one of my favourite movies. He's never seen it. And I'm pointing out the bigger one. Point north.
SPEAKER_04You know, but elf number two, solid pick. Very good.
SPEAKER_06Oh good, good that you grading your own.
SPEAKER_02Yes, good solid pick. Victoria graded hers previous to that. Yeah, but she's new to the podcast. She's not second five episodes.
SPEAKER_00One does not grade, one does not.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00What a brilliant pick. Number two guy.
SPEAKER_02Number two for me, Joker. I've actually never seen it. Yeah. And the thing is.
SPEAKER_06No, is this Joker or the new one something old or whatever?
SPEAKER_02It's worse. Apparently it is worse. So Joker Arthur Fleck living a lonely repetitive life. I mean, everyone thought, oh, this is going to be great. And I think everyone had big expectations on it because of Heath Ledger was so great as a Joker in the Batman movie. But Batman Returns. Yeah. It's very similar to well, it's a Martin Scorsese film, so it's quite similar to Taxi Driver, which again goes on and on. And the only thing about it that is good is Joe Queen Phoenix's acting. But it goes nowhere.
SPEAKER_06Sorry, what's the guy's name again?
SPEAKER_02Joe Queen. Joe Ken. So Whackham. Whackin' it's Whackham Phoenix. Is that his brother? Edit that out for me, will you?
SPEAKER_03Joe Joe Whackham. Joe. He often mentioned it in his golf podcast. Whack him. An enemy of the podcast. Whackham Ninem. Whackham Ninem. I whack Namin, I'm telling you that night.
SPEAKER_02So anyway. Yeah, so overrated. Again, didn't it get Oscars nominations left, right, and centre? No.
SPEAKER_06I tried to watch that on a plane going to the States, and oh, it was dull. Yeah. I think the only good bit in the whole movie is eventually when he just loses the plot completely in the talk show at the end. But nothing happens. Nothing happens. The movie is devoid of any significant interest to me.
SPEAKER_04But remember the old Batman movie? I'm saying old ones from the 90s. Michael Keaton as Batman. Yeah. And the stories in that fantastic. Even Christian Bale as Batman and the B in character and all. Brilliant. Lovely story.
SPEAKER_02Why are you talking about Batman?
SPEAKER_04Joker. Joker. Oh, Joker. Joker like Batman.
SPEAKER_02Oh, right, right. But I but but this is this didn't have no relevance to Batman.
SPEAKER_04There was references in the subplot about it. Was there? Yeah. I didn't even get that. That's one of the things why it's probably very overhyped because of the sort of Gotham City elements and all. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02But were they just were they just but I but I felt they were just using that to think the joker? Do you think to try and make it sell? Not even the height of the joker.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. Do you think you should start back with kids' movies again? When you understand them, you work your way up into the adult stuff.
SPEAKER_02I know. But I was I was wondering how the but the Batman what was going into it. But I thought they were just trading off Heath Ledger.
SPEAKER_04No. The Batman likes. But then the I didn't even get that. The second one. That's good. The second one is a truly atrocious movie. I haven't I didn't even watch it.
SPEAKER_06I'm never going to attempt to watch it.
SPEAKER_04I watched it because I thought the first one is so bad. Everyone's saying the second one is better, they've made it's worse. It's like a musical. He's dancing around singing on it.
SPEAKER_06The thing is, they said it they tried to turn it into some sort of musical, and it makes no sense whatsoever.
SPEAKER_04It's very illogical. And is there more singing in it than oh yeah. And it's not the people have that thing, oh it's dark, you have to understand the dark sort of stuff. Is it all Steve Miller music? No, it's not. Very clever. I got it, I got it. I don't know.
SPEAKER_06As long as you get the reference, it's important. There's a lot of the listeners out there are going to be. Oh, the well, they'll be Scott was clever. They'll be switching.
SPEAKER_00Have you seen Tooker? No, I haven't. You're not missing much, obviously. It's not really.
SPEAKER_06I don't think we've sold it to her anyway. I think even off the back of that, she's going to go.
SPEAKER_00The only joker I want is the ice cream kind. I know, yeah. Especially right now.
SPEAKER_06I know. I'm telling you, I wish they turned the heat. I'd have a sign anyway.
SPEAKER_00I have a box of them at home. Oh, have you? Yeah, they're still there. Still the same. Oh, deal for finest.
SPEAKER_02I might have a look from them tonight. Sweet treat. So we treat you like a you'd like a wee lolly. Lovely. I love a lolly.
SPEAKER_04So that's good. I think that's a good pick. Number two. I think that's good.
SPEAKER_06Okay.
SPEAKER_04Does that get to me then? Yeah, your number. Is this the way it works? Yeah, it does.
SPEAKER_06I'd just check in because Gareth has a different system to the one I work. My number two is Lost in Translation. Where people talk about it being a stunning example of how people examine loneliness in a foreign culture and all the rest of it. Bill Murray, Scarlett Johansson, and directed by Sophia Coppola. And I'm going, I watched again, I watched this on a plane. Oh my word, I cannot imagine anything duller. And they keep talking about a wonderful performance from Bill Murray and this wonderful way the whole tale just shows how. I'm going, no, it doesn't. It's just two hours, two hours ten, whatever it is, of wasted time. I have genuinely enjoyed watching paint dry born. It is unbelievable. And yet you'll frequently see it listed as one of the classics. A movie that goes, it's just completely different. The alien environment of the Japan, two lonely people. Bill Murray there is to advertise a whiskey. He's there to do that. And you're just going, sorry, I'm not buying any of this. And Bill Murray then having a vague relationship with Scarlett Johansson. Nah, that just doesn't work for me.
SPEAKER_04So was it an Oscar winner or an Ashley? I can't remember.
SPEAKER_06It it was in the equation. I can't remember. And I was so when I thought up, it was so overrated, I just couldn't even be bothered to check. It was one of the ones two of my three movies came straight away. And that was one of them. Yeah. To say that's and actually, funnily, funnily enough, uh Apocalypse Now was the other one. My top choice I did a bit more research on because uh it got me to realise that as far as I'm concerned, it is a very problematic movie and it's hugely overrated. But I'm not going to my number one choice just yet.
SPEAKER_04Was there any that you had this is the everyone that was almost made it in?
SPEAKER_06Yes. I had well look, the the King's speech. Yeah do you remember the King's Speech? Yeah. That movie was it's overlong, it's poorly edited, and it would have been way shorter if they'd cut out the stuttering. Oh that's terrible. Also, the life the life of is terrible. Also the life of Brian. There are some funny moments in it, but like most of Monty Python, it's wildly overhyped.
SPEAKER_04What about you guys? Did you have any that were almost gunman?
SPEAKER_00Victoria's done four pages on I mean Elf was almost on my list, but and again I went back to you know, I like the story of it and just think it wasn't executed well.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So I just answer your question is it got nominated for I got one Oscar for best screenplay. Lost on translation. Yeah. No, it's the one the one that came kicking around for me, Inception. Yeah, a lot of people mentioned that.
SPEAKER_04I try to get it.
SPEAKER_06Is that the one which ends up with the spinning? No, that's not the dream.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it's the one Scarface almost made my list. Oh, Scarface is excellent. But for no other reason that I quite like it as a movie, but there are certain people and friends of mine. Oh, it's the best movie ever created, it's brilliant, it's a great story, it's fantastic. And you go, it's good, I do like it, but not at that level. It's just down to what public perception is.
SPEAKER_06Well right. On that, Victoria, number one. Number one choice, you're up again. Last two pages of your work.
SPEAKER_00Yes. Uh okay, so my number one is Avatar. Oh well, that was the noise, Martin.
SPEAKER_05Um you you were doing so well. This will bring a big debate. Yes. Yes, it will.
SPEAKER_00I low in in choosing that, I may not be able to go back to my office. Um, you know, when people hear this, because there'd be some very disappointed people. Now, visually, I don't think anyone can argue that it's a beautiful movie. The world buildings extraordinary.
SPEAKER_06Pandora is exceptional.
SPEAKER_00Yes, it's one of the most beautiful world pandemics.
SPEAKER_02Never got to that was that whenever you're writing your diary as a 13 and a two-thirds year old kid.
SPEAKER_06Victoria got the joke far faster. I heard that.
SPEAKER_00I think once you get beyond though the visual effects of it, for me, it was that overshadowed the story. And um I left the cinema thinking more about what I'd seen than how I felt or the story. And if someone asked me to name a single character in it, I'd struggle. And more importantly, if you know me, I couldn't quote a single line from the film. And to me, that is a death knell for a film in terms of uh you know it being good. Um I admire it enormously. I'm just not emotionally invested in it as a movie.
SPEAKER_02It's come up and we've debated before. I think we liked number one, but number two and three killed it.
SPEAKER_06Well, the problem with it is number one is you're absolutely right, it's visually stunning.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_06At that point in time, it's a new story. You have to get into the whole mythology of the thing. And had they left it after one movie, yeah, I actually think it would be a classic.
SPEAKER_07Yes.
SPEAKER_06Well, what did they do? They then made Avatar 2, The Way of Water with the exact same story, the story was identical, and I haven't even bothered, which is bizarre. I haven't bothered to go and see Avatar 3 because I'm not convinced it's anything different, only this time there'll be volcanoes and fire. It's just more of the same. And the character who they killed in the first one is back in the second one, and I bet you he'll be back in the third one. I I think that's the mistake. I can't put Avatar itself into the overrated category, but when you tie in what they've done afterwards, yes.
SPEAKER_00That goes back to that other, you know, potential for a future podcast on the franchise thing. Yeah, which we're in. I I do think they put so much time and energy into how it looked, which again was groundbreaking, beautifully stunning. You know, you couldn't have built that world more beautifully, but they really missed a mark on the story.
SPEAKER_02Uh you make a very good point. You can't remember the names of the characters or the characters or any lines from it.
SPEAKER_04Martin Will. Give us all the names, Martin.
SPEAKER_06There was Jeff.
SPEAKER_04Gerald. Gerald's back at the end. Gerald was the engineer.
SPEAKER_06No, you're look, you're right on on those sorts of things. Yeah, accent pack, Victoria. But again, this is this thing about I if if it had only been Avatar, I would have argued with you much more. But then they go, in my opinion, they did go on and ruin and overhyped and overrated everything. And I think it was the old thing, is it made so much money it was always going to get a sequel. Yeah, true. But the story didn't deserve a sequel.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I agree.
SPEAKER_04Okay. Good. Good pick. Good effort.
SPEAKER_01Good effort.
SPEAKER_04Thank you. From a good effort to an even better effort, my number one was by a country mile in my head, whenever this topic was decided by the Pickmaster General, Return of the Jedi.
SPEAKER_05Oh my word. What is going on here?
SPEAKER_04Star Wars to me just doesn't do it. 1983, Return of the Jedi, those wee furry creatures running around dark theatres. Don't speak ill of the other. As a wee machines. As a kid in the 80s when everyone was saying, Oh, it's the best thing, let's watch it.
SPEAKER_06Listeners, you've never heard this before. But Andy, carry on.
SPEAKER_04It was awful. I still but honestly, Star Wars, I could have picked any one of the Star Wars franchises. Or there's so for me, just it just doesn't do it. And I know like Elfness alienates a huge percentage of the population who loves Especially the Ewolves. But but in their definition of overrated, like a cult classic, people will have tattoos of characters of this for me.
SPEAKER_06He won't get that, because he's not. No, he won't. He doesn't he doesn't understand.
SPEAKER_04But he's from Hoth. So your view, Martin, as a as a fan.
SPEAKER_06Well, you're completely wrong. I mean, it was the essential movie that was required to finish the original trilogy. See that what happens thereafter again is the law of diminishing returns. But the original trilogy, which by the way, started at episode four, just so that you know, it never started at episode one, it it was always listed as episode four. Thank you for that.
SPEAKER_04Sleep well tonight, no, no.
SPEAKER_06Well it's it's important that you do, because it's a hot night and it might be difficult. But as far as I'm concerned, that is not because if you had lived through the era where that came in, remember there wasn't the way that all the TV and all the other stuff you can watch today. That trilogy of films, once people saw the first one and then saw the cliffhanger, what was the first one? The first one was New Hope. New Hope. And then you have okay, give me a second. Just making sure I get it right, because sometimes when you throw something out in this podcast, uh Empire Strikes Bath, back, back. Not the Empire Strikes Bath. That's that would be totally different. Totally different.
SPEAKER_00Jane Austen, Cars and Terror.
SPEAKER_06Different sort of lightsaber. And uh Martin, Martin.
SPEAKER_03Oh, it went off the rails.
SPEAKER_02This is what is freaking cut out.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Might leave that one in.
SPEAKER_06I'm quite proud of that one, if I'm being honest.
SPEAKER_04What was the one in '98, the story I tell of working in the cinema on a coming in?
SPEAKER_06Is the phantom was that the phantom menace that terrible again? I don't disagree with you there because I I think those were much poorer, but I think the original trilogy is not overhyped, and there's a fan base for it. You may not have been it, but I can't agree with you.
SPEAKER_02No, I can't agree with you because it was it was they were enjoyable. Like I'm not a Star Wars massive, you know, overhyped whatever fan. They were enjoyable, great watching that type of stuff.
SPEAKER_06Is it because you don't have the force within you? You you you you aren't a natural Jedi. No. So whereas obviously I would be.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but that you were in the Dungeons and Dragons Club. You watched Lord of the Rings. That's my next question.
SPEAKER_04You were the ultimate geek.
SPEAKER_06And Victoria wants to be Princess Leia, she just won't actually say it out loud.
SPEAKER_04So, Martin, tell me this. Lord of the Rings movie against Star Wars movie. What what are you picking?
SPEAKER_06Oh, that is actually unusually for you a very good question.
SPEAKER_04He's speechless.
SPEAKER_06I think I'd pick Star Wars. I think you'd have to pick Star Wars. I think because I'd already I'd had the book to go with and I already knew the story, whereas Star Wars everything was new. Well done, good bit of logic there a bit. Okay, after Andy's appalling effort overhyping and overrating a movie.
SPEAKER_00Gareth, what have you got? What is the most overrated answer?
SPEAKER_02Oh, that I try the so my one, this film I have tried to watch probably four times. Mainly because everyone says, Oh, it's fantastic, and you know they quote lines from whatever, and it is fight club. So I just didn't get it. Just didn't get it. It was very easy to see. But you're not that sort of personal. No, but I saw the twist. You're not a fight club person. No, I'm not. I'm a lover, not a fighter. I apparently so.
SPEAKER_04Did you see the twist early? I I knew it was common. I didn't. I watched it and I was like with the narration and all I to be fair, I haven't watched it in years, but I watched the first time.
SPEAKER_02And funny, whatever sort of research or whatever says the film satirizes or satirizes or whatever the word is. Toxic, go on it, we can edit, we can edit. Satirizes. You're right the first time. Toxic masculinity, consumerism, extremism, identity alienation. But one of the great ironies is that then Fight Club, which criticized consumerism and here was but Tyler then became the cultural icon on posters, t-shirts, social media quotes, everything. So it was a complete contradiction. And you saw the twist coming from Miles, and it's boring.
SPEAKER_04I I don't I thought Fight Club was a good movie. Would you watch it again? Yeah, probably not. If I had a choice of 50 movies, Network Zealand, uh yeah.
SPEAKER_02But you felt you had to watch it.
SPEAKER_04I've never seen that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. You seen it?
SPEAKER_06I watched the start of it a couple of times and gave up.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's not the same thing. So that that to me is deemed overrated movie, and you were watching it because everyone said, Oh, you've got to watch this, it's on or they're recruiting from the fight club recotes or whatever, and you go, when was and you stopped.
SPEAKER_04Late 90s and guessing this was out.
SPEAKER_06Probably. You're looking at me as if I'm going to clarify that. I'm just gonna let you hang out there because I've no clue.
SPEAKER_04No, it's a fair point. Like, I actually I didn't see the twist coming on actually looking back when I watched it, yeah, it's quite obvious actually. But it is yeah, do you know what's decent, it's not a groundbreaking movie.
SPEAKER_06I think actually that maybe is a useful insight into how you watch a movie that you didn't see a blindingly obvious You haven't watched it though, Martin. You have to be a lot of it. If Gareth told me it was blindingly obvious, and if Gareth spotted it.
SPEAKER_00Did you see the twist coming in the sixth sense? No at the beginning?
SPEAKER_01No. No. No. It was a ghost?
SPEAKER_00Spoiler alert.
SPEAKER_06No, for the first time. This film's been like 20 years. You can't do a spoiler alert in the movie that you're gonna do.
SPEAKER_00Why do you say that though? Because there's a group of people who are rediscovering or not rediscovering, discovering for the first time, M. Knight Shamala's work, you know, like signs and things has become a noon.
SPEAKER_02Did you ever watch his series that he did with was it Reese Nimid was the actor The Knight something? Oh I'll have to find that out actually. But he was very good. He made some good movies.
SPEAKER_04I was just gonna say, The village is not his, isn't it? It's great. I love a village.
SPEAKER_02Was he Unbreakable? Yep, yep. And that's Signs. Was he Signs as well? So what way does it go? It goes Unbreakable. There's three of them. Glass, Glass, and then there's some and oh Split. They were great movies. Um and I didn't know they were all sort of to you know intertwined, but very good. I need to find out the Night Watchman or something.
SPEAKER_06No, not the Night Watchman is No, no.
SPEAKER_02I'll have to find out.
SPEAKER_06Alright, my number one choice on the A Martin. Controversial. Not as not as lunatic as. Andy's choice, but it controversial. Okay? Pretty woman.
SPEAKER_02Oh no.
SPEAKER_06The the all-time classic. The love story from the gutter to the riches of Hollywood. We're talking about a supposed millionaire billionaire character finding a friendly neighborhood lass who gives out favors for cash. And uh, you know, all the rest and eventually falls in love and it's all a very happy story. It's awful. From start to finish. It's not only unbelievable. Somebody wrote recently, which will probably have to get edited in a second, but anyway, somebody wrote recently, it's just not realistic as to how life on the street for a friendly lass works out. It doesn't matter. Your search history would be interesting. So the reality is think back to problem. We talked about American beauty being problematic. Think back to the logic of this and whether or not it's actually problematic. And you'll begin to go, actually, it is. That's not a moralistic viewpoint. It's just the way society's moved on. It's the way a lot of comedians from the 70s, 80s, and 90s are effectively, you know, can't work anymore because their sense of humor, the world has moved past that. I think that movie was of its time, but is vastly overrated now.
SPEAKER_02Why can that not happen? You know, they he he meets her and falls in love with her.
SPEAKER_00Why does it need to be realistic? I'm laughing at not your question.
SPEAKER_04Martin's answered.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So so why can that not happen? So many many people go out to foreign countries and come back with a wife in a similar way in a similar scenario.
SPEAKER_06It's one of those things. Watch it again.
SPEAKER_02I've watched it I actually say I've watched it two or three times.
SPEAKER_06This does not surprise me about you.
SPEAKER_02It's we rom com. I like we rom com. Hey, loves a wee rom.
SPEAKER_06Yes, but actually, when you start looking at it around the edges, it's not really a rom-com. No, no, no, no. It is, you know, a rich person actually effectively buying and owning somebody who's in a different situation. But then he falls in love with her. But hang on a second. So you're justifying it because he then fell in love. What if he just discarded her? Would you have the same feeling for the story? I don't think it'd be a film. Yeah, it wouldn't be a good one. No, but that's the point. So the thing it's overrated because it's not true, it's overhyped.
SPEAKER_02I think humour, very funny in it. Great acting by Julia Roberts, and actually really good acting by Richard Gere. I think he plays the character really well.
SPEAKER_06No, to be fair, but to be fair, he didn't know because he was old enough to be a few. I like her. He was old enough to be her father, so I mean it's it's good experience he had.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and also even the guy that was the manager of the hotel was excellent. And the story was good, the treatment of her was it? It was excellent. Are you sure? Music. Are you sure? Laughs. Oh, I'm totally sure. I'm actually in total disagreement with you.
SPEAKER_04So much so I've watched two or three times. You'll annoy a lot of our listeners, Martin, I think, with that one.
SPEAKER_06Well, again, I'd like to apologize to the listeners if I've annoyed them, but if you've stayed this long, you've already heard Andy Trash. Star Wars.
SPEAKER_02Victoria, do you like a rom com?
SPEAKER_00I do, but I do agree that this isn't a rom-com. And funny, one when I asked some of my friends for their picks, this was on my friend Phil's list.
SPEAKER_06Oh really? See, I think one of the things I'm not about.
SPEAKER_02Mine will have my don't worry. My lots of people have picked mine as well.
SPEAKER_06But one of the things I'm not, Gareth, which apparently you might be, is I'm not a dinosaur. I'm not living in a previous era of where certain things are acceptable. I've had to evolve and move forward.
SPEAKER_02I've go and look at the edit cut list.
SPEAKER_03Actually, let's not even mention that.
SPEAKER_02See the edit cut list? It's a pilot high there in the first record.
SPEAKER_06I've evolved enough to know that I need to cut those out. What about our listeners? What did we have? Go ahead. Uh I'll and and Victoria has listeners apparently. She's she's reaching for her notes.
SPEAKER_04We have Pete McQuillan jumped in with Lost in Translation.
SPEAKER_06Yes, well done, Pete McQuillen. Good call.
SPEAKER_04Blair Witch is number two.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I think he's right.
SPEAKER_04I like Blair Witch. Number one, anything Marvel Universe.
SPEAKER_06Oh, actually, that may come up again. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Lewis picked Blade Runner in brackets sleep runner, more like. I agree.
SPEAKER_02I agree. That's overrated as well. One of those ones you feel you have to watch.
SPEAKER_04It is turgidly slow. Yeah. The notebook was his number two.
SPEAKER_06You think I've alienated listeners? If you throw the notebook out there, you're in real trouble. Excellent. Yes, but you're you are such a soft. Such a romantic two you are. You are no no no you you are such a romantic.
SPEAKER_02I give Debs those romantic films for you, so is 2001 Space Odyssey.
SPEAKER_04Oh the worst as a kid.
SPEAKER_06I have to say I'm not a huge fan, but then you you feel like you're an idiot if you don't like it because you obviously simply don't understand stuff.
SPEAKER_04Thomas sent in Avatar, The Mask, and Gone with the Wind.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Actually, you might be right.
SPEAKER_02Rodney, I have Avatar number one. Rodney. Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Avengers Endgame. Chris Wall was Inception Titanic and Return Legetta.
SPEAKER_06Do you know something? If you write them down, it's so much easier to remember them.
SPEAKER_02It was on the golf course, so it was where we tell me. We're discussing it. It was Return Legetta, yeah.
SPEAKER_06Victoria.
SPEAKER_00Uh my friend Phil, pretty woman, Shakespeare in Love, and Avengers Assemble.
SPEAKER_06No, you see, ooh, that's the first Avengers movie.
SPEAKER_00I like the first one.
SPEAKER_06The first one's good, but again, it's the law of diminishing returns thereafter. Endgame's not great. No, which is a good one. Because in reality, nobody dies anymore. Because the minute they introduced the multiverse, Jeopardy disappeared. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_06I know that's another whole podcast in that.
SPEAKER_02You were Jeopardy at the moment, so it does.
SPEAKER_06I like Jeopardy. Yeah. Jeopardy is good.
SPEAKER_00Stephen Bartlett, Lord of the Rings.
SPEAKER_06You're close to him.
SPEAKER_00Star Trek. Did he turn me in?
SPEAKER_04Did he say Lord of the Rings? He actually said Lord of the Rings.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Stephen, I know you listen to this podcast occasionally, and you know you're a top bloke. I know that for a fact as well. But that's a stupid suggestion that Lord of the Rings could be a good thing.
SPEAKER_02He actually said The Terminator. Terminator is a great movie.
SPEAKER_00Actually, I think he'd think he'd actually pick anything with Arnold Schwarzenegger. Oh, did he?
SPEAKER_02But Terminator, and you think about even now today with AI and all that type of stuff. Yeah, Terminator's greater than that film.
SPEAKER_06The original Terminator was all done with uh actual effects. And then Terminator 2 was obviously they made this huge jump forward. And who made Terminator 2? Who was the director? Jules Schumer.
SPEAKER_05No. Go for it? No. Go for it. Come on, you're nearly there. JC.
SPEAKER_06JC? Not the JC. No, no. JC. James Cameron. Yeah. Who again made? Avatar? Titanic. Titanic? The Abyss? You know, he makes visual movies. Yeah. You know? Anyway. Oh, that was hard work. It's a hot day and I'm having to work a lot more.
SPEAKER_00But thank you, listeners, for all your lovely feedback.
SPEAKER_06Sorry, could you give us Steven's third one again? Because after we debated Star Trek. Okay, he's probably right in that. Star Trek's a bit average. If he'd said Star Wars, different. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I'm not sure he knows the difference, to be honest.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I like it. Um Anne McKissick.
SPEAKER_00Sorry, cares, cares, not knows, cares.
SPEAKER_06Okay. Anne McKissick said, any Spider-Man movie, any Fast and Furious movie, you're wrong. There's about three in the middle that are actually really good and really entertaining.
SPEAKER_03And just clip that, Anne, you're wrong.
SPEAKER_06Anne knows me well enough to know that she'll probably sit there and go, oh, Martin.
SPEAKER_00Just per choices.
SPEAKER_06Actually, I'd like to apologize. Apparently, you're entitled to that choice. Okay. I could work for Congress. You can thank my colleagues because I wasn't giving you that. And anyway, and then any recent uh Academy Award-winning movie, they're usually movies that nobody sees or nobody likes.
SPEAKER_04Well done, Anne. It's good choices.
SPEAKER_06So she's got good choices all around from Andy. Well done. Colonel Lou said Jaws 2, 3, and 4. Yeah, they're not going to be able to do that. Many sequels are pretty rubbish. But Lou, we are going to do uh worst sequels. Yeah. Podcast at some point, your top three worst sequels. I don't think we have done top three worst sequels. Have we done top three? No, no. You're not even on the team.
SPEAKER_02You're a guest. No, we've done top three what should have sequels.
SPEAKER_04Have we not done sequels that were better than the originals?
SPEAKER_06We've done sequels that were better than the originals, and we've done top three films that require a sequel. It should have a sequel, but we haven't done the top three worst worst sequels.
SPEAKER_00But remember the rule for a sequel.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. It must be the one after. Yeah. Oh, yeah. The original. Yeah. Yeah. And finally, from me, you have Big Keith with La La Land. Which again is a really well it it's more plays to their demographic than maybe Big Keithy's. It's a wonderful life. He said I've never got to the end of it. Well, it doesn't surprise me. Never.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_06And his final one is Avatar, so he's obviously wrong as well.
SPEAKER_04You've reminded me Ben sent in La La Land, Don't Look Up, and Avatar's history.
SPEAKER_06Avatar's got some hate around here today. No, it was led off by Victoria.
SPEAKER_02Do you think she brings hate to her?
SPEAKER_06I'm not sure. I'm not sure. Because we're normally so easygoing and fun-loving. We add this new dynamic and we're not quite sure how to deal with it.
SPEAKER_02The good thing about Victoria is she brings a depth to the podcast that I don't think us three have. Like to be fair, whenever we thought overrated movies, we did the old I what's one that comes to mind quickly where she researched it in detail and went all the different things it should be.
SPEAKER_06But she's just made my edit about no and a half yeah. It was a great introduction. It was more notes than I had. Anyway listeners, you will all have your own opinions as to overrated movies. We are about to go in to the cinema now. We've got our coffee, we've got some donuts, Andy's got seven, Gala's got one. Uh Victoria apparently isn't having one because it's nearly time for her summer holiday and she doesn't want to risk it.
SPEAKER_00Oh Martin. We can't wait to see that one on the floor.
SPEAKER_06May you have to. Anyway, listeners, send us your opinions. We've given you ours, and we'll see you all again very soon. On behalf of the podcast, my name is Martin. My name is Garth.
SPEAKER_00My name is Andy. My name is Victoria.
SPEAKER_06And uh Victoria will be sort of alerting her lawyers to some libeless statements that have been made this afternoon. We'd like to apologize in advance. And anyway, we'll see you all again very soon.
