Jessica:

Hello and welcome to the Ponder and Magnify podcast, where our mission is to seek an encounter with Jesus through praying the Rosary, relying on the grace of the Holy Spirit and the intercession of Mary. I am so happy that you are here. In this episode we will meditate on the promised coming of the Holy Spirit in the Pentecost as we pray a decade of the Rosary. Before we start, let's pause and reflect on what we're bringing to prayer. What are your joys in this moment? Is anything weighing heavy on your heart right now? Is there anything that you're afraid of right now? What are you desiring? Whom do you wish to pray for? In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen, Jesus, we ask you to speak directly into our circumstances. Mary, thank you for praying with us and for us now. Holy Spirit, anoint the gift of our imagination so that we might come to encounter Jesus more deeply through it. The third glorious mystery is the Pentecost, a reading from the book of Acts. When they entered the city, they went to the upper room where they were staying Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew. James, son of Alphaeus, Simon, the Zealot, and Judas, the son of James. All these devoted themselves with one accord to prayer, together with some women and Mary, the mother of Jesus, and his brothers. There was a group of about 120 persons in the one place. When the time for Pentecost was fulfilled, suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind and it filled the entire house in which they were. Then there appeared to them tongues as a fire which parted and came to rest on each one of them, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom, come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil, amen. The upper room was full of around 120 of Jesus' disciples, including the apostles and Mary, the mother of Jesus. All were united in love for the Lord and in prayer, awaiting the promised arrival of the Holy Spirit. Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death, amen. Mary looked around the room at the faces of the people who her son Jesus loved, and she was filled with joy, for in being near to those whom Jesus loved, she felt near to her Son and she desired every good thing for them. Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Jessica:

The apostles and the rest of those gathered felt the consolation of having Mary present with them. Of all of them, she knew Jesus most intimately and had a unique union with Jesus that kept her particularly attuned to the Father's will. With Mary present, those gathered felt safe and secure that they were following God's will for them at that moment. Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Jessica:

The Trinity was present to those in the upper room. The Father took in with such delight the sight of those gathered who were ready to aid him in his plan for the spread of the good news and the salvation of souls. Jesus' heart burned with love for every person present in that room. He was so moved by their trust in what he had promised, despite the difficulty of it all, the Holy Spirit was eager to pour forth at the second the Father gave the direction. Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Jessica:

Mary prayed with such love of God and souls. Father, Son and Spirit, I praise you for the love you hold for those gathered around me now. For love of you, I wish to participate in your love for those gathered here. Please allow their hearts to receive everything you wish to offer them. Let it be done unto them according to your will. Come, holy Spirit, come. Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Jesus' heart melted at Mary's prayer. At hearing her words, Jesus turned to the Father. Before Jesus could speak, the Father spoke with a smile. Yes, my son, I heard her. It is time now. Pour forth Holy Spirit. Hail Mary full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Jessica:

And suddenly there was a strong driving wind and tongues of fire in the upper room and Peter turned to Mary looking for answers. Peter saw Mary, eyes looking up toward heaven, hands outstretched, tears streaming down her face and the most jubilant smile as she poured out with praise and thanksgiving to God. And in this sight Peter was reassured that the Holy Spirit had indeed arrived. Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Jessica:

As Mary continued to pray, Peter felt in his heart compelled to stand, leave the upper room, go out to the crowds and speak of Jesus. Peter looked again to Mary for reassurance before going. She did not speak, but simply smiled and nodded and motioned toward the door and returned to prayer. And Peter burst through the door with such eagerness to get to the crowds and the apostles followed. Hail Mary full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Jessica:

Mary did not stop praying. In union with Jesus, she prayed in her heart that Peter and the apostles would be vessels of the Holy Spirit and that all those listening should be able to hear of the mighty acts of God through them and be saved. Hail Mary full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death, amen.

Jessica:

And at the end of the day they returned to the upper room and found Mary still in prayer. They eagerly reported to her. You should have seen it. They all understood. So many were cut to the heart. About 3,000 were baptized today.

Jessica:

She responded with such joy My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my spirit rejoices in God, our Savior.

Jessica:

The Mighty One has done great things for us, and holy is his name. My children, this is just the beginning, and she embraced each one of them with such love and joy, thinking of her Son and longing for the salvation of souls. Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Jessica:

Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen, glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be world without end. Amen, o my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, lead all souls to heaven, especially those in most need of thy mercy. Hail Holy Queen, mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To thee do we cry poor, banished children of Eve. To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious, advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us and, after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, o loving, o sweet Virgin Mary, pray for us, o Holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. Amen, what a gift it is to pray with you. Please, please, count on our continued prayers, and we ask you humbly to be praying for us. Praise be to God.
