Hello and welcome to the Ponder and Magnify Podcast, where our mission is to seek an encounter with Jesus through praying the rosary, relying on the grace of the Holy Spirit and the intercession of Mary. I am so happy that you are here. In this episode, we're going to be praying the rosary while meditating on the luminous mysteries of the rosary. Before each decade, you'll be given something to imagine related to the mystery we're praying. However, if the Holy Spirit leads you somewhere different as you're praying, definitely follow that prompting instead. Before we start, let's pause and reflect on what we're bringing to prayer. What are your joys in this moment? What sorrows are you feeling right now? Do you have anything that you're afraid of? What are you desiring? Whom do you wish to pray for? In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, amen. Jesus, we ask you to speak directly into our present circumstances. Mary, thank you for praying with us and for us now. Holy Spirit, anoint the gift of our imagination so that we might come to encounter Jesus more deeply through it. I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven. He is seated at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty. From there he shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting, amen. O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell. Lead all souls to heaven, especially those in most need of thy mercy. Amen. The first luminous mystery is the Baptism of Jesus. A reading from the Gospel of John John the Baptist saw Jesus coming toward him and said, Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. By the grace of the Holy Spirit, John the Baptist recognizes Jesus as the promised Messiah who will take away the sin of the world. Not only will Jesus take away the sins we have committed, but he will also take away the pain left by sin. So too he will take away our pain from sin committed against us. At his Baptism, Jesus stands in the exact same river that we have a record of God parting in the Old Testament Book of Joshua in order to make passage for the Israelites to the promised land. At his Baptism, Jesus stands in the murky waters of the Jordan, identifying with our sin, and by his Baptism shows himself as the new passage into the eternal promised land, where complete healing and restoration from all sin awaits. As we pray this decade, imagine yourself in heaven completely free from the guilt, shame, and pain of your past sin. Imagine yourself free from the devastating effects and pain of sin committed unto you. See Jesus and Mary delighting in witnessing you imagine what it feels like to be completely restored and free. The second luminous mystery is the wedding feast at Cana, a reading from the Gospel of John. On the third day there was a wedding in Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the wedding. When the wine ran short, the mother of Jesus said to him, They have no wine. At the wedding feast, Mary recognizes a need in the problem of the wine running out, and she does something truly remarkable. She resists the temptation to rely on self-sufficiency and to attempt to solve the issue on her own. Instead, she turns immediately to Jesus to voice her concern, and she does so without telling him how she thinks he should solve the issue. Mary simply states her concern, clearly wanting it to be resolved, yet leaves it completely open to Jesus and how he will act, trusting he will act in one way or another. And then Mary steps back and prepares to be delighted in what Jesus will do. Mary's humility and faith in prayer are on full display, making room for Jesus to work miracles and for God to receive all the glory at the resolution. As we pray this decade, consider the desires or concerns of your heart at this moment. With Mary by your side, praying for your strength, imagine yourself handing your desires and concerns to Jesus in complete surrender without trying to micromanage the outcome. See Jesus' delight to accept these gifts of your heart paired with your efforts to trust in him. Hear him speak to you. I can't wait to show you what I will do with these. Try to sit with Mary in joyful anticipation of what the Lord will do. Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, they will be done on earth as it is in heaven. The third luminous mystery is the proclamation of the kingdom. A reading from the Gospel of John. Jesus answered them, I have told you this so that you might have peace in me. In the world you will have trouble, but take courage, I have conquered the world. In Jesus' words here, we are reminded that suffering is a guaranteed part of our earthly life, and yet it is intended to be a temporary state. Jesus has conquered the world. We have a destiny beyond this world that all truth, beauty, goodness, and joy in this earthly life point toward. This is what Jesus came to proclaim. Let this be our peace. Mary, the mother of Jesus, became the greatest witness to the kingdom of God at the foot of the cross, in her greatest suffering, when she was able to remain there at the cross in the pain of it, and yet also remain in the peace of knowing Jesus was in the very act of conquering the world. As we pray this decade, ask Mary to help you see how you can hold space in your heart for the pains of this life, and also the peace of knowing all things will come to resolution through Jesus at the same time. To do so is to join Jesus in proclaiming the kingdom of God and to live with a heart like Mary's. The fourth luminous mystery is the transfiguration of Jesus. A reading from the Gospel of Matthew. Jesus was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light. Then from the cloud came a voice that said, This is my beloved son, with whom I am well pleased. Listen to him. When the disciples heard this, they fell prostrate and were very much afraid. But Jesus came and touched them, saying, Rise and do not be afraid. Peter, James, and John received the gift of seeing Jesus glorified and hearing the voice of the Father from heaven, and they were terrified. So often we fear what God wishes to give us, because we do not fully understand it, or we can't easily picture our life differently than we have imagined it. We may be afraid we will be too weak to handle what might come, or we may fear what others might think. In our fear, we have the capacity to see what God intends as a gift for us, as a suffering instead. As we pray this decade, ask the Holy Spirit to help you see how your present anger, confusion, or inflexibility might be underlain by fear. Share your fear with Jesus. See how he listens to you with such tenderness and empathy, and is so eager to console you with the view of his sacred heart radiating love for you. Ask Mary to help you trust in his love of you, which will lead everything to good. Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, they will be done on earth as it is in heaven. The fifth luminous mystery is the institution of the Eucharist, a reading from Psalm one hundred and sixteen. How shall I make a return to the Lord for all the good he has done for me? The cup of salvation I will take up, and I will call upon the name of the Lord. Jesus willingly gave himself over to suffering for our sake. He endured the agony in the garden, the abuse of being stripped and scourged, the crown of thorns, the carrying of the cross, the crucifixion. He endured the feelings of rejection and abandonment from those he loved, and a sense of powerlessness and his physical weakness. At every second he accepted this pain, turning it into prayer and offering for us that we should be in heaven one day out of a profound and tender love for us. How often do we go around thinking we are the exception to this? You are not an exception to this. In fact, you were precisely the one that was on his heart as he endured his passion. How then shall you make a return to the Lord for all the good he has done for you? Run to the cup of salvation and take it up and call upon his name just as the Psalm says. Jesus wants nothing from you other than for you to claim all that he wishes to give you. As we pray this decade, imagine yourself kneeling before Jesus crucified. Imagine yourself consuming the Eucharist there, on your knees before the cross. By consuming the Eucharist, you claim your salvation by his sacrifice that he longs to give you. What consolation you bring to his heart by consuming the Eucharist, hoping to be in heaven one day, and trusting the Eucharist will lead you there. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O Clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary, pray for us, O holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. Amen. O God, whose only begotten Son, by his life, death, and resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life. Grant we beseech thee that by meditating upon these mysteries of the most holy rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, that we may both imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise through the same Christ our Lord.
