Hello and welcome to the Ponder and Magnify Podcast, where our mission is to seek an encounter with Jesus through praying the rosary, relying on the grace of the Holy Spirit and the intercession of Mary. I am so happy that you are here. In this episode, we're going to be praying the rosary while meditating on the joyful mysteries of the rosary. Before each decade, you'll be given something to imagine related to the mystery we're praying. However, if the Holy Spirit leads you somewhere different as you're praying, please follow that prompting instead. Before we start, let's pause and reflect on what we're bringing to prayer. What are your joys in this moment? What sorrows are you feeling right now? Do you have any fears in this moment? What are you desiring? Whom do you wish to pray for? In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Jesus, we ask you to speak directly into our present circumstances. Mary, thank you for praying with us and for us now. Holy Spirit, please anoint the gift of our imagination so that we might come to encounter Jesus more deeply through it. I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again from the dead, he ascended into heaven. He is seated at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty. From there he shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting, amen. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, they will be done on earth as it is in heaven. The first joyful mystery is the Annunciation, a reading from the Gospel of Luke. Then the angel said to her, Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father, and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end. Gabriel announced to Mary that she would become a home for he who would rule forever, whose kingdom would have no end. Mary was invited to accept something of eternal value within her. Mary, who was limited by time and space, mysteriously became a home for the infinite. We too have this same invitation in the Eucharist. In consuming it, we take he who will rule forever, whose kingdom will have no end into our body. We, though limited by time and space, become a living tabernacle for eternal goodness itself. Heaven and earth touch within us in the Eucharist. As we pray this decade, imagine the angel Gabriel before you in your own enunciation moment, offering you the Eucharist, inviting you to be a home for infinite goodness and love. What will this mean for your present circumstances? Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. The second joyful mystery is the Visitation, a reading from the Gospel of Luke. My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my spirit rejoices in God my Savior. His mercy is from age to age to those who fear him, he has shown might with his arm, dispersed the arrogant of mind and heart, he has thrown down the rulers from their thrones but lifted up the lowly, the hungry he has filled with good things, the rich he has sent away empty, he has helped Israel his servant, remembering his mercy, according to his promise to our fathers, to Abraham and to his descendants forever. After Mary's interaction with Elizabeth, she turns to God in praise. Jesus within her helps her to praise the Father. To praise God is not just to thank God, but to acknowledge his character, his activity, his goodness, and his plan for our eternal salvation. God loves when we praise Him, not because of what it does for Him, but because of what it does for our own heart. Praise recenters us. It reminds us of God's power working everything to our eternal good, which should be our confidence. Praise lends perspective to our circumstances. It is appropriate and necessary in every circumstance, and it bears the fruit of peace. Consider the circumstances of your day today. As we pray this decade, allow the Holy Spirit to guide you in acknowledging God in some way, His character, His activity, His goodness, His plan for salvation in the midst of your circumstances today. Imagine Mary and Jesus on either side of you, joining you in your praise of the Father with such eagerness and joy. The third joyful mystery is the Nativity, a reading from the Gospel of Luke. In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that the whole world should be enrolled. So all went to be enrolled, each to his own town, and Joseph too went up from Galilee from the town of Nazareth to Judea, to the city of David that is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David, to be enrolled with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. While they were there, the time came for her to have her child, and she gave birth to her firstborn son. In God's master plan, Jesus was born at the time of a census, when there was a decree that the whole world should be enrolled. How fitting, for in Christ God reveals his wish to be counted among us. He is not deterred by any part of our life, but instead wishes to join us in all of it, to bring healing and love and an eternal perspective. Consider what circumstance seems to be dominating your life right now. Jesus wishes to be counted among you right in the midst of that circumstance, no matter what it is. As we pray this decade, try to imagine Jesus beside you in this circumstance, offering you his love and helping you to see this circumstance in light of Heaven. The fourth joyful mystery is the presentation of Jesus in the temple, a reading from the Gospel of Luke. When the days were completed for their purification, according to the law of Moses, they took Jesus up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord, just as it is written in the law of the Lord, every male that opens the womb shall be consecrated to the Lord, and to offer the sacrifice of a pair of turtle doves or two young pigeons, in accordance with the dictate and the law of the Lord. The presentation was a big moment in salvation history where Jesus was publicly announced as Savior for the first time. Yet Mary and Joseph went to the temple to present Jesus there not because they received specific personalized instruction from God to do so, but because they were being obedient to what God at the time had asked of every person who had just given birth to their first son. They were simply fulfilling the duties of their state in life, and through this, Jesus was revealed in a new way to those around them. Consider the duties that are part of your day today. As we pray this decade, ask the Holy Spirit to help you to imagine how your duties could be a seedbed for you or those around you to know Jesus. The fifth joyful mystery is the finding of Jesus in the temple. A reading from the Gospel of Luke. When his parents saw him, they were astonished, and his mother said to him, Son, why have you done this to us? Your father and I have been looking for you with great anxiety. And he said to them, Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in my father's house? But they did not understand what he said to them. He went down with them and came to Nazareth and was obedient to them. And his mother kept all these things in her heart. In this mystery, Mary goes to Jesus and makes her anxiety known. And though she doesn't experience immediate understanding, she does experience the peaceful relief of being in Jesus' presence. When we go to Jesus, let us not feel any pressure to have things figured out. Let us instead prepare our hearts by excavating up within us what needs healing or where we need help. Then, like Mary, let us approach Jesus with this part exposed, seeking relief from him. Consider where in your life you need healing or help. As we pray this decade, imagine approaching Jesus with your heart in your hand, seeking his help. See Jesus' eagerness to reach for your heart and hold it. Tell him what it is that you desire. Watch him hold your heart so close to his own, and see the graces pouring from his heart into yours. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O Clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary, pray for us, O Holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. O God, whose only begotten Son, by his life, death, and resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life. Grant we beseech thee that while meditating on these mysteries of the most holy rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise, through the same Christ our Lord.
