What is sacred anointing — and how were essential oils used by the women who walked with Jesus?
In this episode, Katische Haberfield speaks with master aromatherapist Cherie Burton about sacred anointing, Mary Magdalene, and the ancient feminine priestess lineage of the Myrrhophore — women who carried myrrh, frankincense, and spikenard as tools of spiritual initiation, healing, and embodiment.
We explore how essential oils were used in biblical and pre-biblical traditions, how Mary Magdalene was trained in these arts, and how anointing was part of sacred feminine spiritual practice.
This conversation bridges Christian mysticism and modern essential oil application — including how oils interact with memory, trauma patterns, the nervous system, frequency, and emotional regulation.
Inside this episode:
• The meaning of sacred anointing in biblical tradition
• Mary Magdalene and the Myrrhophore lineage
• Frankincense and myrrh as sacred masculine and feminine oils
• Spikenard and the anointing of Jesus
• Essential oils and emotional alchemy
• How scent activates memory and stored trauma
• Nervous system regulation through aromatherapy
• Oils, sound frequency, and embodiment
• Using essential oils as modern spiritual tools

Namaste. Welcome back to the Infinite Life Podcast with me, your host, Katie Chummerfield. And this week we have got a real treat for you. I have got a returning guest, Cherie Burton. And Cherie was in our previous season, a couple of seasons ago, where we talked about midlife and we talked about Cherie's journey with the divine feminine. Now, today I have a very special masterclass for you because I was able to get Cherie to kindly come on and take us in a deep dive in a very special area that has been very foundational and also transformational in my own life, and that is working with sacred essential oils. Now, some of you know me from the days when I began back in 2011 and 2012 with essential oils. Cherie was one of the first people that I met. She lives in America and I live in Australia, and she was the first person who taught me about the emotional alchemy components of essential oils. And we have stayed in touch. And now I'm working with Cherie, and we are on the same team in promoting how to bring essential oils into the world, into understanding not only the emotional, not only the physical, but for me, what's important because as a channel and as a past life regression therapist and a medium, I'm into the spiritual sides of the oil. So that's why Cherie and I have had different but very similar journeys. And today I'm going to introduce her so that you can understand her skills and expertise, and then we're going to do a master class. So Cherie Burton is a master aromatherapist and emotional breakthrough coach and trainer who specializes in the science and spirituality of multi-sensory healing and feminine empowerment. She's been trained in multiple healing art forms and modalities, having journeyed through several sacred feminine wisdom traditions, apprenticeships, and mystery schools. Cherie is a mother of six and has been a life coach for over 20 years, holds a psychology degree, and has worked in clinical settings as a mental health counselor. Her Soul Roe Show podcast, online programs, and retreats guide women to connect to their authentic essence and experience deep transformation and inner awakening. Cherie, welcome back to the podcast.
SPEAKER_00Thanks so much, Katish. It's always amazing to collaborate with you. I know we're very aligned in our work in the world. You're doing your thing, I'm doing my thing. But I think it was completely providential that we met in 2012 when I was in Australia. I think that's when we first met in Australia. And it's just been beautiful to rekindle our connection with this shared message of helping others to alchemize deeply into their personal, not only the awakening to like their own lineage that they as a soul, I guess you could say, contracted to be part of in this incarnation, but also like bringing that to others. So doing the alchemy inside first and then bringing that out. So I'm just gonna launch right into this presentation. This is a topic near and dear to my heart because this path found me. And usually that's the way it works, right? We we think we're going in a certain trajectory, and all of a sudden the universe is like, hey, do you want to go a little deeper with that? So I was actually introduced to oils in 2008. I thought they smelled good. I didn't understand the science, I didn't understand the spiritual essence of them. But my work since 2008 has morphed into understanding this ancient feminine lineage of the Miraphores, which we'll discuss and also how essential oils work with the body's natural processes and spiritual processes and emotional processes to exact real systemic change and real regenerative transformation in the body. So let's just go into a little bit about what alchemy is. I'm sure a lot of you are familiar with this term. I just want to bring it into a little different context as it relates to what we're actually doing within the body. So if you look at the scientific term or even go into philosophical texts, it's about transmutation of a base metal, let's just say gold, turning something into gold or making something better, taking it from one state and turning it into another state. So if you look at the body, all we are is just a bunch of chemicals and patterns. And let's with a lot of electrical signaling in between. So at the quantum level, if we really want to change something, we don't get rid of it. Like when we're going into from a base metal to gold, that gold still has properties of that base metal. When we're really talking about embodied wisdom in the body and we're talking about true transmutation, it's taking something, let's just say that has more of a negative form or pattern in the body and refining it into a better pattern. So I like to look at it as we're not always necessarily getting rid of things, like we can't get rid of part of our DNA, we can't get rid of our lint, the things we've inherited. But what we can do is transmute them into a different state. So with essential oils, the reason that they're so powerful is because they actually have the ability, they're very molecularly dense. Just to give you an idea of how molecularly dense there are more molecules in one drop of an essential oil than there are cells in your entire body. So because these things grow in the earth, they're already earth-based, they're already organoleptic. They work very compatible with, they have a very strong compatibility with the body's natural biochemistry. Because essential oils are just chemicals, that's really what they are. But they're the essential lifeblood of that aromatic plant. Not all plants have aromatic compounds, but the ones that do, and the ones that we source, come from like leaves, roots, stem, flowers, trees, bark, that kind of thing. But they're called essential because they are the essence of the healing properties of that plant. And because of the way their chemical constituents are alchemized, for lack of a better word, naturally in that oil, they match our receptor sites quite easily. In fact, because of that molecular density, they're very active biologically. They're organoleptic, they're a lie, they're a living compound, they're a living chemical compound. They're able to get into the body's cell, the cellular root of whatever issue that you're experiencing that's able to go very systemic and very root cause. We know a lot more scientifically now, and these the ancients have been using essential oils from the beginning. We'll talk about that in a minute. And we're really looking at modern science, what we see is that carbon compounds, like earth-based carbon compounds, which is what our bodies are made of, are very life-giving. And so when we're looking at organic chemistry and compatibility, what we what grows on the earth, scientific instruments can't duplicate. Labs can't duplicate, let's just say, a lemon tree or a frankincense tree. So these things cannot be patented because they already grow on the earth. We you don't have companies that can own a plant, let's just say. It's important to know that when you want to meet the body where it's at, we're talking about alchemy, this pattern, you want to meet that pattern. The reason that essential oils are so powerful is because they have an adaptogenic capacity that you don't get with synthetic substances. In other words, they're able to meet the bad or the negative in the body and address that or cleanse that or transmute that while also leaving this good intact. So you don't see that with pharmaceutical agents. And there's three ways you use oils. You can either inhale them, that's why they call it aromatherapy. You can either put them on topically or you can just take them internally. And you have to make sure that if you are ingesting them, that they are certified pure tested grade. And we use doTERRA essential oils for that purpose because the industry does not regulate the certified pure tested grade or certified pure therapeutic aspect. That's a doTERRA trademark. And so they are safe to be taken internally when they have a certain CPDG trademark on them. But here's the important thing. The way that the oils work on an essence level is through resonance. In fact, I heard like one of my teachers from India's name is Nithya Shanti, he taught me that we only learn through resonance. So if we're going to retain and remember something, it's because there's a resonance with those words or resonance with that teaching or music or whatever that we internalize and we have our own alchemical reaction to whatever is being presented to our senses. And so when you look at the healing vibration of essential oils being transferred not only through that organoleptic way I talked to you about with the molecular density and the chemical constituents, but on an essence level with their resonance. This is why they have a spiritual capacity. They enhance our own body's electromagnetic vibrations and they restore coherence. So one of the things that I tell people, as I've been working with oils now for gosh, 17-ish years, is that you have smell receptors throughout all of the organs on your body, on the surface of all of the organs on your body. And they are of the highest concentration. You wouldn't know this. You'd think that the highest concentration of smell receptors might be like in your brain, but they're actually on your heart. You have the highest concentration of smell receptors on the surface of your heart. So I tell people if you want an instantaneous state change on the emotional spiritual level, put the oils on your heart, rub them in, get that heat exchange, and then bring the residue of that essential oil over your nose and mouth and create a naturally human inhaler. That is literally a one minute or less state change that you can create just as a practice. Okay.
SPEAKER_01And I can just confirm that, Cherie, because I worked with Rose Essential Oil for last month to help me with overwhelm. And it's an instantaneous change. It is I've literally just spent a month studying that in real time. So I can confirm that works absolutely.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and that's one, thank you. And that's one of the reasons I keep essential oils on my person at all times. I put keep them in my purse, I keep them at my desk, I keep them out when I stand by my bed, I keep them in the kitchen, I keep them in the bathroom because I just know that when I'm processing something or I'm needing some kind of calming or lifting aspect, I do just a really short practice and I'm in my body. So they're very much embodiment tools. This is a study that was done by Bruce Taneo, I'm not sure how to pronounce his name, but he did this scientific instrument that measures vibration around what happens when we pair the frequency of an essential oil with things like meditation or even thoughts or words that are coming into our sensory receptors. And how does that impact the body's frequency? And they found that the frequency will drop when you have negative thoughts. Obviously, when you have positive thoughts, it goes up. And then it double goes up if you use words or pray over or set intention over those words. So just yeah, here's the thing. We don't yet have the scientific instruments or technology to accurately measure the vibration of essential oils. But what we do have, even though it's a little, I don't say mechanical, it's if you were trying to help somebody with trauma and you're like, let's take a blood sample and or let's put you into uh an MRI machine to see where your trauma is in your body. We don't have that kind of scientific measurement, right? We can't access that through blood samples or through the electromagnetic uh scientific technology that we currently have in medicine. It's the same thing with this spiritual essence of oils and the spiritual essence of words, thought, intention, meditation, and prayer. Let me walk you through a little bit of science of how this works. So when you have a thought, this hypothalamus in that deep limbic structure in your brain releases a neuropeptide, and those neuropeptides just flush throughout your whole system. And what they're doing is they're looking for a place to attach on one of your cell, like your cell receptor sites. And once they do hit a cell receptor site on the surface of a cell and get into the cell, they've become an emotion. We call that molecules of emotion, and Dr. Candace Purt is a pioneering researcher on this. So we know scientifically that our thoughts can actually create matter in the body or a or at least an electrical chemical response in the body and get into the cell. So our thoughts are quite dangerous actually for the good and for also sometimes when we have subconscious thoughts that are running amok in the body as a pattern that we know that can create disease in the body. So when you look at these frequencies, you can see how some of these impact the body. That's the main distinguishing factor with like between an essential oil and say something like a dried up, crushed up herb, it takes about 28 cups of peppermint tea in the dried up, crushed up peppermint leaf to equal the potency of one drop of peppermint essential oil. So, what's interesting about this is that because they are living, because they're volatile compounds, they meet the body that way and therefore drive up the frequency of the body. And they have, and I think this is really significant that when we're looking at the measurement capabilities we do have with technology, that essential oils currently have the highest, most coherent measured frequency of any natural substance. And part of that is that concentration, that real chemical concentration. And this is we'll get past the science piece because I want to get to the spiritual part, but just know that the chemical compounds that are found in concentration in essential oils are mimicked by pharmaceuticals. And for instance, frankincense is very high in sesquiterpines, and it can actually bypass the blood-brain barrier and actually get into the brain and start to create a chemical, I guess you could say chemical languaging or chemical communication. Now, we don't have pharmaceutical agents that can get that can bypass the blood-brain barrier. We don't have chemical agents or pharmaceutical agents that can cure the common cold or the flu or things like that. Viruses. Viruses reside outside the cell, bacteria reside inside the cell, pharmaceuticals can attack bacteria, but they can't actually really hit viruses. We don't have cure for a lot of viruses. But what's interesting to me about this, these naturally occurring sesquiterpenes, polyphenols, monoterpenes that occur in in naturally in essential oils, they are able to get into the cell and exact even DNA mutational change. They impact the intracellular structures very, very efficiently. So they are able to get to root cause while also impacting, like making a very organic impact. So we're talking about alchemy. That's really what we're talking about. Just to give you an idea, like I always talk about frankincense because it's like the father oil, and we're going to talk about frankincense. But there are over 2,000 different chemical constituents in frankincense. And you would be hard pressed to find any kind of pharmaceutical that has that many active ingredients. So it's quite powerful. So we always say, like, when in doubt, use frankincense because of its really diverse chemical constituency. Let's talk about anointing. This is a fun fascination of mine. There are a lot of biblical references to anointing. If any of you have done any deep dives with Christianity, you know that Jesus or the term Christ means the anointed one. And anointing means I think it's alchemical because it's this sacred practice or method or ritualistic act where you pour oil on different points of the body, usually the top of the head and sometimes the chakra points like the third eye, the throat, the heart, the solar plex, the root, etc. But it's an outward ritualistic act that externalizes the next level to which a soul or a person on this human journey is going to. So I'm a proponent of not waiting around for someone to anoint me. I'm doing that myself. I'm intuitively choosing different oils, not just for their fragrance aspect, but for their the soul essence of that plant's mission to bring me to a different state. And they're working symbiotically with my body in that chemical spiritual languaging. And when you the reason ritual is so very important is because you are enacting what you wish to receive, and you're externalizing your heart's longings or desires and your spiritual longings as a means to bring you to that next level. So when you've just gone through a transition, when you feel like you you need to celebrate something that you just cleared out, or you've made this beautiful spiritual guide connection and you want to honor that, or you want to connect to your ancestors, and you want to have anointing can be a really powerful practice. And this is not this has been done since the beginning of time. We have most of our earliest texts, especially in the Sanskrit, have talked about anointing. And of course, it's mentioned quite a bit in the Bible. So what they do uh you can't have really anointing in its purest form, from especially from what these ancient sacred texts tell us, without combining them with essential oils. There's something about the oil and this sacred act, symbiotically that creates this beautiful. We could call it alchemy, we could also call it metamorphosis, we could also call it even that healing activation of what is wanted. So they go together. And I've even said, I've even heard it said, like from one of my spiritual teachers, that you become the prayer, you become the anointing, because that is your heart's intention that's leading out. The other cool thing about essential oil is. That I think is really important from the scientific sort of spiritual scientific blend integrative approach is that when you smell something, it's traveling up these aromatic pathways, which I'll show you illustratively in just a moment, that those aromatic molecules are traveling up your nasal cavities and going into the region of the brain that bypasses logic. So if you want to get out of your thinking monkey mind brain, and you want to get into the body, smell something. Smell an essential oil, smell a rose, smell a flower, get out in nature. Because those aromatic pathways will literally cleanse your limbic palate, for lack of a better phrase, and get you right into the body. So you're not in thinking mode. That's one of the reasons oils are so powerful for meditation. So we know that these are just some of the oils that are mentioned in biblical texts, and some of them smell great. Some of them smell medicinal and pungent. When I first began smelling frankincense, like pure frankincense from the area of the world where it's been sourced indigenously for like thousands of years, I didn't like it. In fact, I had a little bit of a revulsion to it. Turns out that frankincense can activate if you have a father wound and you smell it, it can activate that father wound, which I very much have had, like with patriarchy and relationship with my own dad and different relationships that went awry, let's just say. And now when I smell it, I could literally mainline it. Like it smells out of this world heavenly to me. But when I first was experiencing frankincense, the chemical messaging and the essence quality that was coming into my body was like, Oh, you got some healing to do. You got some healings to do. Yeah, and you'll see that different people will have different, like you could smell rose one day, right, Katish? And it might smell, oh, this is okay. But another day when you smell it, it's like the best thing you've ever smelled. And another day you smell it, you're like, not feeling it today.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. My oil. I love frankincense from the minute I smelt it, but I do have a past life connection to the oil. But geranium, that one like it. I I like it now, but I had to work with it intensively to get past the wound that one had. Yeah. Could you read could you read out those oils just for the people who are listening? Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So if you're listening, we've got myrrh, frankincense, cedar wood, cinnamon, cassia, galbanum, spikenard, hyssop, sandalwood, myrtle, and cypress. There's more, but these are the most commonly mentioned. Of course, we know myrrh and frankincense from New Testament, the three wise men who I believe were also alchemists, who were also astrologers who were following the star and knew how to read that. They brought myrrh and frankincense to the Christ child. And I'll talk about why they chose those particular ones in just a moment. But when we're looking at how they're mentioned in biblical texts, and I would also say even pre-biblical texts, like the Sanskrit texts, this is how they're mentioned fragrances, aromas, ointments, incense, perfumes, odors, sweet savors, they did not have synthetic substances back then. Fragrances now, don't even get me started. They're so laden with synthetic chemicals. But we're talking over 600 references to aromatic oils in the Bible. And so this picture here is there's a lot of like early Christian texts and early Christian artwork that shows Mary Magdalene, who's probably my most enigmatic, fascinating character to me ever, of any character in the entire universe, as I dove into literally going to the places in the world where it's said that she frequented after the resurrection post-resurrection and also like just to escape the Roman rule and the persecution, and went to these sacred sites. And then not even knowing why I was drawn to essential oils and why was I drawn to Mary Magdalene. And then when it finally fused together and connected for me, it was like, okay. Let's just really look at so anyway, you'll see different European art from like the early as the 10th, 8th, 7th century depicting Mary Magdalene with this jar of ointment. It's called the Alabaster Box or the Alabaster jar. And it included many of these ointments that will specifically Spagnard, which we'll talk about in a minute. So we alluded to frankincense earlier and how it's the father oil, it's extremely chemically diverse. If you're looking at this image here, you can see it comes from a very arid part of the world. They call it the frankincense trail. You can even see it from satellite Google Maps, but it's just this place where these frankincense trees have grown indigenously for thousands of years. And so the Egyptians knew this. We find Egyptian in Egyptian catacombs, they had frankincense tears or frankincense resin that we were that were buried with them because they believed they were it was such a powerful healing agent, it would take them into the next life. I don't know what the reasoning was there, but nonetheless, you'll see a lot of Egyptian catacombs that have frankincense resin. There was a lot of stuff we can't say and we can't post because of FDA restrictions. But I know right here near Salt Lake City where I live, there's the Huntsman Cancer Institute that has a literal, I don't say like sidearm or side aspect to its cancer treatments that includes frankincense. It's all over PubMed.gov. They're not going to say frankincense. They're going to talk about sesquiterpenes and monoterpenes and some of the chemical constituents in frankincense. But even if you did a frankincense search on the American PubMed.gov, which is a very reputable medical website, you'll see there are literally over hundreds of thousands of references to frankincense. So this isn't new. It's just that the FDA restrictions, because you can't patent a frankincense tree or any of the other plants that contain aromatic compounds, we can't share scientific research on it. So we have to do it in these little circles where we have little private groups that we talk about these things because otherwise we would be fined by the FDA. I hope that will change. I'm hopeful in our lifetime it will, but we're not just talking about the spiritual and emotional aspects of frankincense. Frankincense literally, we like I said before, when in doubt, use frankincense because it has so many medicinal purposes. It also magnifies the effects of other oils. So you'll find frankincense in a lot of blends. It's just a very magical, beautiful oil. Now, from the it's the king of essential oils in the sense that it's got a very masculine energetic quality to it. So it's got a father signature, whereas myrrh, we'll get to that in a minute, is the mother oil. Spike nard is the Mary Magdalene oil, if I had to choose one. There's actually a scripture in John that references how Mary took this costly ointment of pure nard, and she anointed Jesus' feet, wiped his feet with her hair, and the house was filled with the fragrance of Spikenard. If you were to spell smell spikenard, you would I say it spells spiky. That's my best use of how to even describe it. It's not my favorite smell, it's growing on me.
SPEAKER_01I think it smells like sticking your nose in a low-growing bush.
SPEAKER_00Okay. By the way, good example. This book is a must-have for anyone who's dabbling into spiritual and emotional uses of essential oils. It's called essential emotions. I have a kind of a collaborative venture going with the people of, we call ourselves essential emotions movement, but I'm just going to read to you just the first part of Spike Nard. It's the oil of gratitude and release. Spike Nard offers deep support during seasons of transition, completion, and release. Long revered as an anointing oil for consecration and devotion, it helps individuals offer up what they've carried with grace and reverence. It softens the heart's resistance and reveals the bounty, the beauty of closure. It invites gratitude for what has been and peace through the sacred act of letting go. When you think about Mary Magdalene anointing Jesus, which is exactly what she did, she was, to even use kind of this language, she was closing out his life mission, preparing him for his earthly ascension and his resurrection and his, and of course, this crucifixion. I find it very interesting when we're talking about Spike nerd as a closer outer or letting go. There can be a lot of spiky resistance to letting go, especially when we're moving from one transitory state or one alchemical state to the next. So Mary was literally, as a priestess, by the way, had been trained in these arts to anoint him. There's a lot of symbolism with her hair, that feminine aspect. The feminine is the anointer of the anointed one. Christ was literally, that word means anointed one. He was first Jesus, who became the Christ after the anointed, after this anointing. So she anointed the anointed one. And I don't think we can underscore that. So I've done such a deep dive into Mary Magdalene's mission. And I think that the reason that she's coming online so much today is because we've left our, we've left out a major part of history of the feminine and the anointing aspect of the feminine. And it did start in Egyptian times, probably even before the Egyptian hieroglyphics that we have that show these priestesses, they were probably carrying on a tradition that was even before them. And so we see this temple tradition of these priestesses who call themselves myriphores. Murifor, and we're going to get into what myrrh means because it is very much a feminine oil. It smells like the earth, literally smells like the earth. So if you're drawn to essential oils or you're drawn to anointing, or you're drawn to this like priestess path or the path of the rose or the Magdalene path, more than likely you're part of this modern-day lineage of Meriphores. Mary Magdalene is our, like I said, this was completely left out and excluded from the canonical text, but it's very much alive in like the Gnostic texts and the Apocrypha, that she was this myrrh bearer or carrying this nart or carrying these ointments in her alabaster jar because she had been trained in this priestess tradition. And this scripture here that's in Mark is talking about that same thing that the different gospels told it differently. But when you dive into the Gnostic text, you really understand how central Mary Magdalene and the women were in this priestessy act of bringing forward the next level or layer of ascension and embodiment and marrying that human with the divine. And that was Mary Magdalene's role is the organic feminine with the anthropos is what they call it in Greek, but the merging of the full human and the full divine in one. So the reason that oils come into this, in my opinion, even though they didn't necessarily have the scientific language for it back then, is that the oils are an embodiment tool and they are able to hit all of the sensory receptor, all the sensory pathways to be able to bring us back into through our own divination and through our own, I guess, accepting the call and being anointed to be who we came here to be. The actual term myrrh is from two Greek words combined, myra, myrrh, which is that essential oil of myrrh, and then pharyn, or to bear or to carry. So this literally means a woman who bears or carries myrrh. And you could even expand that to say a woman who carries healing ointments, a woman who carries the anointing practice, a woman who says yes to anointing. And there's a lot of scriptures that talk about not just Mary Magdalene, but Mary Mother, the mother of James, who is believed to be Mary, the mother of Jesus as well, Salome, all of these women who came together to anoint Jesus' body before or after the burial. And so it the these it didn't start with these women, is what I'm saying. This has been a lineage that's been carried on since ancient times, even pre-New Testament, even pre-Egyptian. So the anointers were priestesses who dedicated, were dedicated to cultivating their connection to the natural world and divine mother, serving in the realm of the great mysteries. They worked with not only the physical healing, but the soul awakening properties and plant essences to help people through those transitions. So there's a lot of artwork that demonstrates this. And I believe we're coming into an age where this is going to be, for those of us called to do this kind of anointing work, it's also metaphorical. It's not that just you're literally putting oil on people, which can be very powerful as a ritual. It also, what are we bringing people into is their essence. We're bringing people's essence online through remembrance and through these acts of awakening and alchemy. So Mary Magdalene, again, this is one of my favorite images of Mary Magnus, a little more modern, but it's just the red represents the blood mysteries, the feminine power, the raw feminine power. And it also represents just that creation, that powerful primal creation goes all the way back to Isis, beyond, I mean, even before that. Asherah in the first temple, who was Yahweh's consort. So Mary Magdalene would have been schooled in these arts, these Egyptian arts, these esoteric arts, the priestess tradition that had been lost with the first temple removal in Jerusalem. And she and Jesus came back together to restore the hieroscamas, the sacred marriage within the sacred masculine, the sacred feminine, the integration within each of our souls and bringing that forward. So through these ritualistic acts, she externalized Christ's mission and her mission. Stuff you didn't learn from the patriarchy, but it's all there in the Gnostic text as well as even the canonical texts. So I won't get into too much about the properties of myrrh. It's an acquired smell. I think it smells so good now. I didn't used to love it. Again, maybe because I had to heal the mother wound inside myself as well. But when you want to smell Mother Earth, smell myrrh because it smells like a mixture of dirt and tree sap. That's the best way that I can describe it. Myrrh is a tree oil, as is frankincense, and all tree oils are very, very grounding to the body, very stabilizing. That's their purpose as tree oils. It's what they do to the body's biochemistry. And it's a very similar profile to frankincense, but they could not smell more different. So one of the things that we do with myrrh, just as an aside, is right when a baby's umbilical cord has been cut. And especially as we're preparing for that to fall off with these newborns, we put we dot myrrh around their belly button. It helps to close that up, but it also connects them to the earth and connects them to the safety of earth. We also do frankincense anointing with newborn babies. I have two adopted children who came along after my path with oils. And we I was able to be in the delivery room for one of my adopted children, my our son Eli. And so I did that. I put frankincense on the bottom of his feet, and then we put him around his belly button. And so literally from the time he came out, he was being immersed in essential oils because of that rooting and stabilizing and grounding impact.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I didn't know that story about him.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, he's 13 now.
SPEAKER_01He doesn't want me chasing him with oils all the time, but nevertheless, yeah, it's amazing because I've been following your journey there. So that's why I was like, I hadn't heard that story. And uh interesting aside thing for people who are energy workers like myself and mediums and channelers, one of the things that I can recommend is to put a drop of myrrh in your cacao or hot chocolate after you do a session because it just helps ground you, especially for channelers and mediums, because your your energy is so up in the etheric world, you're very lightheaded. And if you put myrrh in your hot chocolate or or frankincense in your tea or your chai, if that's more your thing, both of those oils help you come back down because it's very energetically draining.
SPEAKER_00Oh, I can see that. That's beautiful. I love that. Yeah, just that grounding and reconnection. Yeah. From the cellular level, what we're looking at really is these molecules attaching to cell receptors. You can have up to a million cell receptors on your cell. What we see with psychotropic medications and a lot of other, just say recreational drugs, even, or just what people ingest, right? What can happen, especially with like SSRIs, antidepressants, anti-anxiety medications, is that they can numb your pain, yes. But what happens as a byproduct is they're also numbing your higher elevation emotions. This is a direct quote from a sister of mine who is only a year older than me, who spent some time in a psychiatric facility for mental health issues. And I remember her, she told me I could share her story and quote this, but all of her creative capacities were being, for lack of a better phrase, numbed out or robotic. And so she just wished she had something from nature that she could bring into that facility, something she could smell or touch. And I keep going back to this, like they're gonna have to reform mental health care for this purpose. Like only nature can actually heal us. We are made of nature, we're organic beings, we're chemical beings, electrical beings, and all of those things can be healed through nature. So, in my opinion, the master chemist, God, universal source, has created these plans for our use and everything that we need for our healing is already on the earth. It's just a matter of discovering them. Again, just as a recap, essential oils are powerful because they can come in and hit all of the sensory receptor, all the sensory pathways. So smell, obviously, touch through anointing and putting oils on wherever it hurts, taking them internally if they're certified pure tested grade. Even sight. So you have the spiritual pathway of sight is your mind's eye visualization. We have found that putting oils on the temples and rubbing them over the third eye can actually enhance vision, can help develop vision, can help to clear out and create more mental clarity, also putting them on the back of the neck. But even sound, I want to talk about how do essential oils impact sound? We're gonna talk about that in just a minute. But just know that they're alive. That's the biggest thing to remember about essential oils, is that they're alive. They're not dead compounds, they're living, volatile compounds. What I do a lot of work, made it my life work actually, to understand the disease of depression as it has taken the life of one of my sisters, not the sister I mentioned, but of the seven children in our family, myself and one other sister, are the only two not diagnosed bipolar. Um, I did lose one sister to mental health, as I mentioned, who left behind five children. That as a family, we and that was in that was 20 years ago that we lost her. And as a family, we just got together and we were like, okay, we're gonna break these patterns. We're gonna, we're gonna understand how this disease is taking generation after generation, is taking us down. And it's been such an enriching journey to use essential oils as a major agent for being able to get in and in and alchemize these patterns. And it's not always a conscious process. I don't take the oil and like direct everything, like it's doing the work. And I always say if you really want to hit an issue, you probably go through a healing crisis when you first use essential oils. But I remember I recommend taking them through all the pathways. So aromatically, through smell, topically through putting the oils on the chakras andor anointing or putting it where you're experiencing tension, and then also taking them internally. So all of those pathways, including the one I'm going to show you in a minute, can actually get in really deep into the body and start to break up these patterns and bring them into your awareness. The reason it's called aromatherapy. Is and this is a quote from Helen Keller. She said she couldn't see or hear, as you all know. So she relied a lot on touch and smell. And she said, smell is a potent wizard that transports you across thousands of miles in all the years you've lived. And the reason that it transports you that way and go is because it's accessing memory. So when you smell something, it will often make an association in your deep limbic structures that are about a memory. So my guess, Katisha, with the geranium is that you maybe had an aversion to it because it was bringing up something that maybe you associated with that smell or that compound in another with an earlier memory. We have a lot of psychotherapists and facilitators that are working with memory who are using essential oils diffused in their sessions. And especially for people with PTSD or complex trauma, they're able to access a lot of these memories in a safe environment because that oil is getting into those limbic structures and triggering parasympathetic nervous system responses, like regulating heart rate and breathing and those kind of things, but it's also accessing memory. So that's a real fun, fascinating field of research. Can I just interject there too?
SPEAKER_01Um, when I first started doing the spiritual work, as you I was a sound healer. And so I used crystal singing bowls and koshy chimes, and I was doing what I would call a modern version of shamanic work. You experienced this yourself back in the day. And I always anointed the bowl and the koshy chimes with the particular essential oil that I wanted to help the person. So when people were nervous about their ability to, for example, in a past life regression, I started off using the bowls to take people into trance because, especially some people who are very frightened about the whole process. You put Clary Sage on the singing bowl or on the Cauchy chime. And not only can they smell it in the session, but it helps facilitate that third eye so that they can get a more movie-like experience when they go deep into hypnosis or shamanic trance. Yeah, I just wanted to put my two cents in terms of how I started working with them was to use it within that to facilitate that feeling of safety for my clients. So some people just used lavender, they were fine with that. But in particular, I definitely use Clary Sage for to take them further in. And I'm thousands of kilometers or miles on the other side of the world, and they can smell and feel the effect of that oil because it's transferred and carried through the sound waves.
SPEAKER_00I'm so glad you brought that up. And actually, Clary Sage, it doesn't surprise me anyway. That would be a powerful oil for that because it's the oil of clear seeing. So it's a it's an oil for the third eye. It helps to bring in clarity. But that's a really good point. If you don't have, if you're trying to work with something like Spike Nard or a different way that you don't have, you can call in the essence of that oil, and the frequency will come to you. I know that sounds woo, but I know for this group it probably doesn't sound too woo. We've done that. I've done that when I've done essential emotions healing sessions with people remotely, like you work, Tish. And also getting just a little spritzer bottle, a glass spritzer, maybe about this big, fill it with water, put drops of different oils in it, and you can cleanse the space, the frequency of that space. I do it before, usually I'd have a little spritzer here that I didn't bring with me today, but because I had to fill it up. But I'm always spritzing, I'm always using oils to spritz, like my pillow, my workspace, and I use different oils to for different intentions. But yeah, we're finding that facilitators who are already doing this kind of work, whether they're leading meditation or breath work or whether they're doing energy work or like your kind of work that you do, Katish with past life regression, whatever it might be, when you pair essential oils with it, it opens up the sensory pathways and allows for greater reception. It also has a cleansing effect, a grounding effect, a calming effect, a lifting effect. So we're just finding a lot of enhanced magnification of that healing art when paired with essential oils. This is where sound frequency comes in. And remember, I told you oils work with sound, and this is the way. So this is actually Felicity Warner. I'm gonna hold up her book here for anyone who wants to dive a little deeper. This she's out of Australia. Felicity Warner. And what she did is she looked at 20 specific essential oils and did a, I don't know, you probably know more about this, Katish, and her in terms of how she was able to measure this. It's like that sand tray vibration where they do music or words, it's a similar thing. So she had someone take this really detailed photography of what the frequency or vibrational signature of each oil was. So this is what frankincense looks like. Here's Santa Wood, which is interesting because I think they're very much sacred devotional oils, but that look how different they are at the sound level. And we know that you were a sound healer to skate, like light and sound are our most quantum basic. That's where all creation starts. Light and sound, and that's exactly how they're meeting the vibrational signature of sound in the body. So there's rose, which look how complex that pattern, and myrrh. And then this is Tulsi, Holy Blazer, which I thought was really pretty. And there's Spike Nard.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. The Mr one reminds me of a stone circle. It just looks like if you're looking, if if you are looking for a flat version of a stone circle, that's the first thing that came out to me. That's I looked at that word Stonehenge.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah. And I, as I'm looking at Spike Nard, look at the central, it looks like a central sun in the middle. These patterns and these frequencies are so complex and so diverse. I already told you about the molecular density. So when you're looking at the vibrational signature of the oils, it's so beautiful. And that patterning meets your body to change and make an alchemical pattern repatterning in the body. So just to sum up, this is some of the studies we know about meditation. And sometimes that word can be really ominous to people. They think they're doing it wrong or whatever. But when paired with essential oils, meditation becomes infinitely more efficacious in the body and easier. Because it does get out of your thinking brain when you're using the oil aromatically, because you're probably putting it on points of the body, you're able to get into that still point much more efficiently. Of course, there's a reduction in the negative motions. We talked about why, because of the frequency aspect and the vibrational aspect of the oils. But what we're always trying to do as human beings is get into the present moment because that's where all the power is. It's where we can access our skill set, it's where we can get clarity for living too much in the past. That's a depression spectrum of something that's gone on before. We're reliving a pattern over and over. If we're in anxiety, we're on this other end of the spectrum of what hasn't happened or might happen in the future. But all we really have control or management over is what's going on right now. And if we can come into a space where we can get in and bypass the thinking brain, get into the heart, get into the solar plex, and especially that sacral chakra, where a lot of our creative capacity and emotional regulation comes from. And that's a beautiful piece of it. If you want mind-heart coherence, guess what's right in the middle of the mind and heart is the throat. So I'm constantly putting oils on my throat. This is an area of my body where I have a totally open throat center in human design, but I also realize that when I start to experience that balling up of emotion right here, I've got to do something. So to break that up, I will put an oil on, topically like lavender or spearmint, that are so great for communication. I'll also ingest an oil with water and then I'll smell it. And I kid you not, in a minute, I'm in a state change. I'm in a completely different frequency. And you mentioned that with Rose Katish, but what have you noticed, like in your spiritual work and then also maybe getting to your own still point? What have you noticed that is the essentials do for you?
SPEAKER_01So for if I want to use my diffuser, then the frankincense is the number one thing to use because it's a spiritual connection to God or source or the divine or whatever you want to call it, that has just always been that was my entry uh pathway was through frankincense. So I find that if people are doing spiritual work aromatically, that that's the best one to fill facilitate experiences. And then the rest of them really it depends upon uh your intention and what you're going through that day, uh whether you need grounding because of stress or whether you need just awakening. I use peppermint essential oil behind my ears every morning. Um and uh I do wonder because Claire audience is my strongest skill, you would think maybe audience. Yeah, you would think that, and with my uh third eye, you would think that other ones would be even more stronger, but I have so many different levels of healing and I can hear different dimensions through my hearing. This is what which what helps facilitate the channeling. That putting that peppermint behind my ear has opened up, I would think, that capacity in this lifetime because it's always going behind my ears, and I can yeah, hear from I can hear levels of beings, spiritual beings trying to get out. I can hear spiritual beings who I call from a place where there is no time and they are in a different part of my ear. And you have to question I can't pinpoint it. That early use in my early days of frankincense all the time and peppermint behind the ear. You have to wonder whether that opened up those pathways metaphysically.
SPEAKER_00It's really interesting from the spiritual perspective how that maybe did open up that channel for you with that consistent use. Um you'll start to see when you use essential oils regularly that you have your favorites. My ultimate favorite essential oil is rose. And I mentioned myrrh is that Mother Earth, but Rose is its own mystery school, literally. But Rose is the divine feminine, and so it's just as most floral oils is very calming and it's very spiritual and beautifying to the body. But there's something really transcendent that it takes me to another realm. So as I was listening to you talk about peppermint, how it opened up and you could hear voices, I feel like I'm literally transported across many lifetimes when I smell rose oil. And I identify with the rose path. In fact, I thought that was our podcast episode that I did with you last time was on the rose path. For those of you who we do use doTERRA essential oils because of the purity and because of the testing that's done, so that you can take them internally. We have a couple of different options for those of you who want to get started with some of these oils. If you already have a doTERRA wholesome membership, but it's been more than six months since you ordered, you can hop over to our team. Not a problem. We just have to walk you through how to reactivate. But these are QR codes that will take you directly to Kateha's link. These are US dollars, these are US kits. So if you are in Australia or somewhere else, just get in touch with Katish and she can walk you through enrollment in your country. But this kit is our stock starter kit. It comes with 10 essential oils, including frankincense and a diffuser. So it's like oregano, tea tree, lemon, lavender, peppermint, breathe, digestion, frankincense, and there's always one. There's 10 of them. I can't remember. Oh, deep blue. Deep blue. I mentioned breathe and digestin. Um yeah, so it's a smattering of more of I would say the medicinal or most widely used universal oils to get started. If you want to jump right into some of this feminine anointing with the oils that we mentioned today that are really popular for bringing you back into remembrance, into soul and organic connection to the earth through the myrrh and frankincense spiritual qualities with addressing the more of the spiritual essence piece, frankincense and rose as a companion duo are sacred masculine, sacred feminine, where myrrh just is earth-based connection. And these are touch oils, frankincense touch oil, rose touch, meaning they have a little metal roller bottle at the tip, and they're diluted just a little bit so that you can use them topically with ease. So those two kits are great. If you do end up getting an enrollment kit with us, Kate Sh, you want to talk about what you're offering for those people that want to get a kit. Or we can customize something for you if neither one of those kits.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's right. That's right. Yeah. You can join with any kit, it just really depends upon your needs. And because we're doing this as a spiritual session, we thought we would put those two different pathways. Um, so I'm offering a spiritual guidance session valued at 222 US dollars. It's a half-hour session, and what I'm going to do is I will bring through for you your spiritual guidance. It may be from a spirit guide, it may be from I've brought through all kinds of amazing spiritual beings who will guide you as to the spiritual components of the various different essential oils and why you need them on your path. So it's not, it's a practical thing, which would say, for example, I don't know, you may have a link to Mary Magdalene or Sarah or Mary, and then one of them may come through and say, This is what we have seen in your soul's path. This is the particular oil that we see has a resonance to what you need to grow, develop, or release. Obviously, they don't, they're not doTERRA people, they're spiritual beings, so they would say the word or the plant or the in their own language. I can't predict what that is, but um that's what I'm offering because I have a specialized Facebook group, which is a doTERRA group, but we do focus a lot and I do bring through specific sessions on the spiritual side of the oils because that's my specialty. Again, you would need to contact me and purchase through me to be able to get that spiritual guidance session.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and I love that. And I've never really had this offering. Worked with a lot of facilitators and guides and healers, and I've never seen this offer with oils, which I think just ups the value of being able to get that customization and meeting like your frequency, like you said, with that coming through. I think that's a beautiful aspect to getting started with oils. I would say most specifically anointing you for your specific path. Really beautiful. One thing that I will offer in addition to that for any of the US customers and probably the Australian customers as well, is I have this fun little keychain of oils. So whatever oils don't come in your original kit, I will fill with 10 oils and send that on to you so you can have a smattering of other oils to use for anointing or whatever needs you have, or even if you want to just try different oils. And then if that's for your initial enrollment. And then because once you get started in your tear as a wholesale customer, you have the option of continuing to order and get free points. So for anyone who does their first time rewards order, which you are eligible to do the month after you enroll, I will throw in this beautiful book that has body systems, every emotion you can imagine, and every essential oil and what its spiritual and emotional properties are, and how you use that oil for spiritual and emotional purposes. And this is an invaluable resource guide, I feel like, for those who are wanting to really access stored emotion in the body and release unwanted emotion in a safe and stabilizing way. So that's a really great asset for those who are wanting that more personalized, privatized work. We also have a free breakthrough worksheet that we can throw in there as well to use with the oils.
SPEAKER_01So yeah, and that's that's really, really generous, Tri. Thank you. And I I'll hold up this people can see that I have held on to my original version from like 2011. And I use it all the time. I've highlighted event pages, it's always with me so that I can in those moments where you do go into that flight, fight freeze, and you can't access your higher self or your spiritual knowledge, and you go, ah, I should know what to do right here now. I should be able to connect, but I can't. I'm too human at the moment. Then I use the book and go, I'm gonna get that oil. So, yeah, that's how I use that book.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and a lot of people have been able to enhance their intuitive work with the oils by getting getting an intuitive hit or muscle testing and then getting it affirmed when they read the property of the oils. They're like, oh, I feel really drawn to tea tree today. I don't usually use tea tree. They'll use the tea tree and have this like somatic release, and then they'll go and read what tea tree actually does, and they're like mind-blown because the aroma was pulling them in, or the essence, or even the bottle sitting there intuitively was drawing them in. Children are masters at this, by the way. Like I said, my older children, I was they were like in junior high school when I started using actually more like junior high, when I started using oils, and they're like all in their 20s now, and they use oils on the regular and they've left the house. The younger kids were literally raised, like I said, and born into essential oils. And so they're kids, if you give them free reign to see what oils they're drawn to, nine times out of ten, they will intuitively choose that what they don't have the same filters and blocks that we have to being able to access healing tools. They just know. So you can use them on pets. I would say if you want to change the frequency in the room, diffusing is always a great idea to literally change the frequency and create stain change in the home. So I know we've gone a little bit over Katish. Is there anything else you want to add before we hop off?
SPEAKER_01Um, no, just you can find me on Facebook, is where I'm most active. You can message me directly there, or you can get me my via my website at hello at katish.com. There's no question too stupid when it comes with essential oils. I know there's that fear. But even if you're somebody who had essential oils in your life previously, like you're somebody in Australia and it's been a good five years, you've got a stash of oils that you have no idea how to use, but you're interested in coming and learning through us, then I'm happy. I've been doing it to for people that I work with before. Send me a text message with all the oils that you've got, and I'll send you information on how to use them. And people have been like, oh, that's what that is for. I have no idea. So we want you to feel empowered by the oils that you have as well. They're not a waste of money. You don't have to guilt yourself, you don't have to create this spiraling sense of self-shame about something that you purchased. If you purchased it, there was a reason for you to purchase it. And I don't want you to look at a bottle of essential oil that you have and go what have your husband or your partner go, look at this waste. Why would you go and buy some more of it? No, it's not waste. You just need to know the things that it's there for and why you bought it in the first place. Come across.
SPEAKER_00And they're very stable, they have a very long shelf life. So chances are if you bought them years and years ago, they're still very safe to use and very effective.
SPEAKER_01You can even just use them in your cleaning if you're really worried. Like just put the peppermint in the floor and you that you'll have no ants.
SPEAKER_00And I, yeah, and just as a final like culminating, like bringing this together, Katish and I now are more intensively or more intentionally, I should say not intensively, maybe it is intensively, partnering to bring more education forward about essential oil. So it's not just about anointing and the sacred use of oils. We'll also be talking about things like metabolism and pain management and sleep and those kinds of things that our human bodies regularly are challenged with. So there's a lot of information to be had, and we do a lot of education-centric type of events, even micro classes, so that it doesn't take a lot of your time. But I love how you brought in if you already have oils, let's teach you how to work with them so that you're not intimidated by them or they're just sitting on the shelf collecting dust because they are super, super powerful healing agents.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, absolutely. Well, thank you so much for your time today, Shuri. I really appreciate that. And thank you for coming on the podcast for us for a second time and this time doing it in masterclass format. For those of you who have been listening on the podcast, if you come and join the Facebook group, you will be able to see the video version of this. Um, and later on we'll put it on YouTube. But come on in and join uh it's called Frankly Katiche, because as I said, I'm frankly obsessed with frankincense.
SPEAKER_00If people don't can't see the visual for the QR codes, I'm assuming you also put the links in there as well.
SPEAKER_01I'll put the links in the in the episode notes. So yeah. Thank you so much, Sheree. Thank you.
