Sean qualified as a dietitian in 2001 and has spent the majority of his career as a home enteral nutrition dietitian, supporting people living at home with a feeding tube. He became interested in how people make decisions about gastrostomy placement and has been involved in the development of resources to support people with MND making decisions about gastrostomy including the mytube website and being an expert advisory panel member for the decision aid ‘Gastrostomy: Is it for me?’. He has been co-applicant on HighCALS, an NIHR Programme Grant lead by Prof. Chris McDermott, developing and evaluating a complex nutritional intervention for people living with MND. Sean has completed an NIHR Doctoral Fellowship focused on how MND multidisciplinary teams support people living with MND to make decisions about gastrostomy. He is keen to take his doctoral findings forward to enable people living with MND to make quality, informed and timely decisions about their care and treatments.
