Welcome to this. Is It The Podcast by Thriving Yinzers. I'm Sherry. And I'm Jodi. We are so glad you're here. Before we jump into our first season as a podcast, we wanted to give you a quick introduction to what the,"This is It" part of the podcast title really means, and why it's the foundation of the podcast. It's something we say as a common phrase, but it's also a mindset. It's a way of looking at life that reminds us... this is it. This is the only shot we get. Time is our most precious and limited resource. Once it's gone, we can't get it back. So we need to focus on what truly matters, no matter where we are, what's going on around us, or what we're going through. When we say,"this is it," we're not telling you to keep pushing through blindly or pretend everything's okay. We're talking about embracing life as it is and somehow finding a way forward, one step at a time. We understand even taking the first step might seem too big sometimes. We're having conversations about finding joy again, even in the smallest moments as we learn to embrace the goodness that remains around us and find hope in the hard times too. And during the hard times, it's really easy to feel alone, but know that you're not, we may never fully understand the weight of your personal pain, but we see you, we hear you, and we believe in your strength. We started this podcast to have conversations to remind us all that THIS IS IT! Sherry, when you say this is it, what does that mean to you? Why did you decide to name the podcast? This is it. The words,"this is it" have carried me through life's highs and lows. And it was because they were words that were left to me by my dad when he passed away. He, had glioblastoma and he would always say,"write it down," because he was having trouble remembering. And so he. Wrote... He kept a whiteboard, right? Yeah. So to keep those notes right? Yeah. So first of all, he had a whiteboard where he would keep track of all of his, appointments and birthdays and things that he didn't want to forget. And then in addition to that, we didn't find out till he had passed away, but he left us little treasures that we found when we returned from the hospital. after he had been in the hospital for two weeks and then, passed away. Those treasures were little notes that he left in all sorts of random places, and those notes were things that he wanted us to remember and, keep close to our hearts. And those notes were the greatest gifts that he could have left because his viewpoints on life and his wisdom, he really, it really shined through right. Right. His spirit shined through those notes. They sure did. And you know, as I said, those words really carried me through some of the hardest days that followed since his passing, but also through some of the best times. The particular note that I'm referring to that we found, said,"Everybody have a nice day. You only go around once. This is it." And I've held onto those words, and again, through the highs and the lows, they remind me to embrace the moments and push through the challenges, and make the most of every opportunity. And what he meant was that every day is a chance to have what he called a nice day. In other words, finding something good in each day, even on the darkest ones. That's such a powerful message, and it's not just about surviving through life's ups and downs. But about actually living it, taking what comes and doing the best you can with it. Right, those words again,"Everybody have a nice day. Remember, you only go around once. This is it." They remind us that we have one life, we have one chance to make it meaningful. There is no rewind button. This is it. And that's the heart of what we're trying to share here. Life isn't perfect. It doesn't have to be and it never will be. This is it. So let's embrace the mess and keep going. So what does this mean for the podcast itself? What can our listeners expect from each episode? On this podcast, we're exploring how to find strength, hope, and motivation, even when life does get tough. We're talking about resilience, mindset, daily habits, and how to keep moving, putting one foot in front of the other. We're definitely not here to pretend we have all the answers, but we are here to have real conversations about real life. Some days are hard. Some days are messy, but all of them are opportunities to keep showing up, even if it's just a tiny bit at a time. And no matter where we are in life, there is a way where we can still make progress. You don't have to wait for everything to be perfect. You don't have to have it all figured out. Resilience isn't about rushing to move on. It's about healing on your own timeline, in your own way. No matter how long it takes, you're not alone in the journey forward. In the podcast, you can expect real honest conversations. We will be covering everything from creating positive habits to navigating the chaos of everyday life, and even conquering overwhelm. Some episodes will be more lighthearted, others more reflective, but all will be practical and real. We're not here to hand out all the answers because we don't have them. What we do have is a passion for collecting and sharing stories of resilience. We'll be sharing our stories and we hope to hear yours too. Yes, for that I will put a link in the show notes to our fan mail. Please, if you have a story that you would like to tell or you would like to connect with us, find the link in our show notes to our fan mail. We'd love to hear from you. And though we aren't professionals in the mental health field, we do aim to build connections to helpful resources and pathways available to professional help so that our listeners are better equipped to find the right help and support when life gets especially hard. So if you are a mental health provider or have a resource that would be beneficial to our community and you'd like to share, hit us up in our fan mail link in our show notes. Now some of you may be wondering what the hell is a thriving yinzer? Fair question for our listeners who aren't from the Pittsburgh area and maybe haven't heard the term Yinzer before. It's a term that we use, which describes somebody from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, or the surrounding area, and it comes from the Pittsburgh dialect where the word yinz, YINZ, is a local version of you all. When you put the word thriving with yinzers, it shifts the perception of a yinzer from a stereotype of rough stubbornness to a symbol of resilience, adaptability, and personal growth. Instead of focusing on the outdated and sometimes negative image of a yinzer, as someone who is stuck in their ways, a thriving yinzer embraces the best parts about the Pittsburgh spirit, the grit, the determination, and the willingness to keep going, and not only keep going, but find a way to grow. Pittsburgh has gone through some tough times for sure, but the city and its people always bounce back, and that's what we're about here. We don't just survive, we thrive. We're talking about people who work through the challenges of life, adapting, growing, and embracing whatever comes their way. And that's the kind of attitude we want to bring to this podcast. We're figuring it out as we go and we're sharing it all with you. A Thriving Yinzer isn't about having everything figured out. It's about showing up, doing the work, and knowing you can make it through even when life is messy. These are things that align with the no nonsense determined attitude of the Pittsburgh spirit and for Yinzer Nation, for those who have moved away. This is a way that we hope that you can still stay connected to your roots while growing in new places. So if you're ready to stop waiting for everything to be perfect and start making the most of right now, we're so glad you're here. We can't wait to take this journey with you.
