This Is It! The Podcast by Thriving Yinzers

#4WINS4YINZ

Sherry Ehrin and Jodi Chestnut Season 1

When life gets heavy, sometimes the best we can do is make a hard day "nicer" rather than "good." That's the powerful distinction at the heart of our new segment and hashtag: #4WINS4YINZ

Drawing from behavioral science and psychology, we're introducing a simple framework to help you notice your daily progress across four dimensions:

  •  spiritual (what gave you peace or purpose)
  • physical (how you cared for your body)
  • mental (what helped your mind)
  • connection (who you meaningfully engaged with)

Research shows that celebrating these small wins actually rewires your brain, releasing dopamine and building momentum even when circumstances feel challenging.

We share our own recent wins—from singing in the car with windows down to giving a duck to a nurse as a gesture of appreciation—demonstrating how these tiny victories don't need to be flashy to make a difference.

The beauty of this practice lies in its simplicity: by acknowledging what's already working, you train your nervous system to recognize progress rather than perfection.

Your wins matter, and we want to hear them! Tag us with #4WINS4YINZ on social media or visit thrivingyinzers.com/4wins to share your daily victories. We might even feature your wins in future episodes.

Remember, thriving takes all of you—spiritual, mental, physical, and connection. Start noticing your four wins today, because tiny steps forward still move you in the right direction.

Sherry:

Hey Yinz, it's Sherry

Jodi:

and Jodi, and today we've got something to share with you.

Sherry:

If you've been here from the beginning, you've heard on our first episode that this podcast was partially born out of words my father left behind when he passed away the simple words that this is. It have a nice day because you only go around once. We want to take pause and say there's a difference between a good day and a nice day. When life gets heavy, when the hard, messy or downright terrible stuff happens, it might not feel fair to call it a good day, but even then you can make it at least a nicer one. How? By noticing your small wins, the ones that help keep you going even when things are far from okay. So we're starting a new segment that's going to be part of future episodes, something simple but powerful to help you pause, reset and realize you're making progress. It's called #4WINS4YINZ: Spiritual, mental, physical, connection-

Jodi:

because thriving takes all of you.

Sherry:

Each time we check in on the podcast, we'll take a few minutes for this. Just a few quick reflections to help you see where you've already shown up for yourself today.

Jodi:

And we want you to be a part of it too. You can tag us or share your own wins using the hashtag #4WINS4YINZ. We might even feature a few in future episodes. #4WINS4YINZ

Sherry:

Spiritual, physical, mental, connection.

Jodi:

because thriving takes all of you.

Sherry:

So why wins matter?

Jodi:

Before we break it down, let's talk about why this even matters. You've probably heard the phrase "celebrate your wins, but it's more than just motivational talk. It's grounded in research.

Sherry:

Behavioral scientists like BJ Fogg, who teaches at Stanford, have done a ton of work on this. He says that celebrating small wins helps rewire your brain. It tells your nervous system "this matters Do more of this. That little moment of celebration actually releases dopamine and that helps build momentum.

Jodi:

It's giving your brain evidence that you're making progress even when life still feels messy.

Sherry:

And psychologists have studied this too and found that people are more motivated and creative when they feel a sense of daily progress and even tiny wins count.

Jodi:

So when we say , we're not just making you a checklist, we're giving you a framework to notice progress and build resilience.

Sherry:

So, the four wins- Here's how we break it down- four ways you might have already shown up for yourself today, without even realizing it.

Sherry:

First, a spiritual win.

Jodi:

What gave me peace or purpose today? It doesn't have to be dramatic- could be a prayer, a deep breath, a song that centered you.

Sherry:

A physical win- How did I care for my body? How did I move it, feed it or rest it? It's honoring your body and what it needed.

Jodi:

A mental win- What helped my mind today? Clarity, focus, a mindset shift. This could be anything from journaling to just letting go of one single anxious thought.

Sherry:

And the last one- a connection win. Who did I connect with? Someone I love, or even a stranger. This one's especially powerful when life feels isolating.

Jodi:

My four wins yesterday: spiritual- singing in the car with the windows down.

Jodi:

Physical- taking five minutes to stretch when I got out of bed in the morning.

Jodi:

Mental- reminding myself that you don't have to rush healing.

Jodi:

Connection - picking up the phone and calling my aunt just to say hello.

Sherry:

And mine?

Sherry:

spiritual win was taking a few minutes to myself to just sit in quiet.

Sherry:

Physical - taking a walk with a friend.

Sherry:

Mental - as a parent of a senior this is a hard time of transition, but I have been very mindful of staying in the moment and taking it all in.

Sherry:

And connection- I jumped on the duck trend and gave a duck to the nurse at my doctor's appointment to let her know that someone gives

Jodi:

We want to turn from yinz! Head to thrivingyinzers. com/4WINS and share your wins.

Sherry:

You can also tag us or DM us with your #4WINS4YINZ hashtag on Instagram or Facebook. We'll share some of them on future episodes because what you notice might inspire someone else to notice their own.

Jodi:

Tiny wins may not feel flashy, but they're how momentum is built. Your nervous system takes notice, your mindset shifts. You stop waiting for a perfect day and start finding the good that's already there.

Sherry:

So take a breath. Ask yourself what gave me peace or purpose?

Jodi:

How did I care for my body?

Sherry:

What helped my mind?

Jodi:

and who did I connect with? Those are your wins. They count, they add up and they're worth celebrating.

Sherry:

And "this is it" so. Have a good day, and if it just isn't, then have a nicer day. That's what Four Winds for Yins is all about Recognizing what's working, even on the days that feel like everything's not. This is it so find your four wins every day, starting now.

Sherry:
