She Said "No" - They Suspended Her

Tre Scott & John Mack Season 1 Episode 26

Fencer Stephanie Turner, previously disqualified and hit with a black card for refusing to compete against a biological male in a women’s event, has now been handed a 12-month suspension from USA Fencing. In this quick follow up to our earlier episode, we discuss why the backlash cuts across political lines and and why punishing female women for standing up for fairness is a losing battle for Democrats. Speaker 2:

oh gosh, fencing once again. I you know what, john, I'm 54 now and in my life I think I've had maybe four conversations about fencing ever, and two of them have been with you in the last week and a half, right?

Speaker 2:

Oh my gosh. You know, john, I don't even know what to say about this. Um, john, I don't even know what to say about this. All I keep saying to to my friends on the left, uh, is that this is absolutely the wrong hill to die on. I just, the nation, does not agree with this completely wild, nonsensical position that doesn't take the feelings of actual women athletes into consideration at all. And you know, I got to say this oh my gosh, they put her on probation, they gave her a black card, they gave her a black card and now they've come back and hit her with a 12-month probation because she refused to fence a biological male in a women's event. I don't even know like regardless. My head just sort of like explodes over this. You're punishing a woman for not competing against a male in a women's event, a female women's event. Gotta love it, man. You know if, gosh, we'll bend over backwards for China on some smartphone parts, but we can't handle one woman with a spine and a conscience at a fencing tournament Hold on.

Speaker 1:

Hold on, we have. We have the whole, the whole right. As mad as I am at the right right now and the left for other reasons, the right is standing up for women's rights. Right now. They they're passing laws, they're fighting for these women to to compete with other women and to get men out of women's sports. So you can't say all of them. It's not all of them, it's the left right now, and this was a left issue. You know what I mean and that's the crazy part. I think you talked about it last time. You guys gave us the, the science to make this stuff happen and we all like, yeah, we got on board with you. Then, once we were on board, you guys were like, no, we need to let men come back in and fight women. Forget it. Hey, did you have you? So this is right up. This is right off of our whiskey and donuts podcast site, I believe on Facebook. Have you read? I tagged you on some of it. Have you read some of the stuff that people are saying on here? I have not.

Speaker 2:

No what did I?

Speaker 1:

miss we we're getting hate mail from some people.

Speaker 1:

Oh, that's great, yeah no, I love it matter of fact, I want to give the guy a shout out because as soon as I find it, because he, as a matter of fact, I want to give the guy a shout out as soon as I find it Because he. So I'm going to try to pronounce this guy's name wrong, because I think it's a. I don't think it's his real name, but it's Rob Dredd Bowens R-O-B-D. R-e-d is his first name and then Bowen's B-O-A-N-E-S. He said all in caps, so he's yelling at his phone as he's typing this. You guys are idiots.

Speaker 1:

So that's one shout out Because I hope they come back and listen to this and and engage us. I mean, don't just call me an idiot. Give me a reason, because if you knew me you would probably understand that I am kind of an idiot sometimes, but like you don't. You don't even know me, so get to know me before you call me stupid, stupid. And then this person says Elliot Duhan, d-u-h-a-n.

Speaker 1:

Why do you hate America so much? So I responded to that one. I wanted you to respond to the other guy. I responded to this one. I said why do you think we hate America? His response because of women's sports. I said I responded to him again. I think he blocked me because this one his name is not highlighted. I said I'm not sure why you think that we hate American sports, or why we're not, or why we hate America because of women's sports. Excuse me, we are true patriots here at Whiskey and Donuts and I'm not sure why you came to this conclusion. We're open to the discussion. Please try to explain, because I'm not sure how he is saying we hate America Because we're standing up for women and this woman should be able to stand up and say I don't want to fight men, for whatever reason. She doesn't even have to have a good reason. It's her right to say I don't want to do that, you don't have to like it, but it's her right. And then they shouldn't penalize her for it.

Speaker 2:

That's bullshit. What's interesting is that I don't know that liberals are going to stand up for her.

Speaker 1:

Oh, they won't. They're going to stand up for the trans boy Unreal Because maybe his feelings got hurt or something. I don't even know if it really bothered him. And I think last time we talked you had said, I believe and I could be wrong that he was the first one that he even went there before the referee did. I think is what you said, and told her hey, you're going to get penalized for this.

Speaker 1:

And she chose to stay course and do what she did, so good for her. She knew the consequences. It sucks that they're continuing these consequences. It's crazy, but you know, she knew them.

Speaker 2:

It's crazy and you know, as a I just I'm upset by it because you've got to know politically, you have to realize what a losing issue this is. This is going to cost you Right, and by you I'm talking to you, democrats, liberals, progressives. This is not progressive. Saying that a male is a female is not progressive. A person can identify as a woman doesn't make them a female, that's just. It doesn't happen.

Speaker 1:

Oh boy. I think I said it before. You can park yourself in the garage all you want. It's not going to make you a Ferrari. You know what I?

Speaker 2:

mean.

Speaker 1:

You can call yourself a Ferrari, I don't care, do whatever you want.

Speaker 2:

Stephanie, if you're out there and you want to come on our show and talk to us about your story, we'd love to have you. You know we should try to send her an invitation.

Speaker 1:

That'd be a great. I'm sure she has pr people dealing with all of this bullshit, for, yeah, she could absolutely come on here and have her say get our we should get our uh social media person to uh to reach out, yeah, to try to find that person for us. Good deal, that would be a good conversation to have. I think so. I think so especially because you you know you're. You claim to be a liberal.

Speaker 2:

Yes.

Speaker 1:

Proudly, you know she would get both sides. She would at least get both sides of the political spectrum agreeing with her. She's probably not getting at all in the real world.

Speaker 2:

You're mean, you're being a woman. How dare you not want to look at penises in your locker room Right. Or fight one, or sword fight one or sword fight, a sword fight Only one of you has a sword, you're not equipped to fight this fight.

Speaker 2:

Oh man, you know what I love this. I really didn't think that we would have this many conversations about it after november. I really didn't and uh, but they're once again. What do we? Just what we said early on. When we started this thing, we realized, oh my god, they're doubling down on all the things that americans rejected, let's do more of it. I'm like, right, they're, yeah, they're not letting up, man, they're full throttle on this. Rejected, let's do more of it.

Speaker 1:

I'm like, right, yeah, they're not letting up man, they're full throttle on this.
