Recognizing Astrological Patterns ~ How to Use Astrology to Make Better Choices ✨
📍 Astrology isn't just about signs and symbols; it's a tool for navigating real life. Hello and welcome to Astrology with Alisa. I'm your host, Alisa Dixon, and I'm so glad you're here. Let's dive in over the last few weeks. Everyone I know was talking about Easter. It's so late this year. I'm all thrown off, and honestly, I felt the same way. But here's some interesting Astro trivia. Most people know that Easter isn't on the same day every year, and that it always happens in the spring, but what many people don't realize is that Easter actually changes each year because of the moon. It's one of the oldest ways we've collectively followed lunar patterns. Easter is always the first Sunday after the first full moon following the spring Equinox. So, depending on how the moon moves.
Easter can land anywhere from March 22nd to April 25th. Now, my birthday falls in that window, and one year it landed right on Good Friday —not just any year. It was my 21st birthday. You know the one where you're supposed to go out and celebrate like crazy? Yeah, I didn't do that. Nobody told me I couldn't go out.
But I just couldn't. I was raised in a Christian church-going family, and Good Friday was the most solemn day of the year, even though I didn't think partying that night would really sentence me to eternal damnation. I still stayed in, watched a movie with my brother, probably had a few drinks, but did it in a chill way.
And you know what? It wasn't a stormy night. It just wasn't what I had imagined. Looking back, I can see exactly what was happening in my chart. I have a Capricorn moon, so emotionally I default to being cautious, practical, rule-following, and traditional. And my Saturn, it's in the ninth House of my natal chart.
The House of belief, religion, and higher meaning, Saturn is serious. Saturn does not mess around, so neither did I. That night, I was deep in the lower vibration of that Saturnian energy, fear, rigidity, worrying about judgment, feeling the weight of consequence. Nobody told me I had to stay home, but my fear made the choice for me, and maybe I'm still.
A little salty about it because I looked it up in the last hundred years. My birthday has only fallen on Good Friday five times. That's one in 20 years, and mine just happened to be my 21st. But here's the thing: that moment, that decision stuck with me. And maybe it wasn't a punishment or a test. It could be something else entirely.
Because every planetary energy has a spectrum of high and low vibrations. Saturn, at its lowest, is fear, shame, and control. Still, Saturn, at its highest maturity, is discipline, responsibility, and learning from life's lessons. And this year I got to see that growth in real time. Through my 12-year-old son.
Last week on Good Friday, we spent the entire day at Kings Island, our local amusement park. He was there from open to close, riding roller coasters, laughing with friends, living his absolute best life. And the day before, when he had asked if he could go, I paused. I knew it was Good Friday, but this time I didn't say no.
And I was so glad I didn't, because in his world, that joy-filled Friday probably felt like his version of turning 21, and the difference was, I didn't guilt him, I didn't stop him. I didn't project my old Saturn story onto his joy. And maybe that's my Saturn evolving. I still value reverence. I still honor sacred moments.
But I also believe that joy is sacred. That balance between tradition and freedom is part of the journey, and astrology gives us the language to understand that journey. It shows the energy spectrum of every planet. It helps us ask, Am I operating from fear or from growth? It reminds us that these energies don't stay still.
They move. They evolve, and so do we. In the first few episodes, we zoomed in on your big three—your Sun, your moon, and your rising signs. Today, I wanted to zoom out because astrology isn't just personal; it's also collective. It's about what's happening in the sky right now and how that stirs things up down here.
The planets are all talking to each other all the time, not in words, but in the angles they form. Within the circle of the zodiac, we call these aspects. Some are soft and flowing. Those days feel easy; others are more uncomfortable. They create friction, tension, stress that's ultimately geared towards growth, although they don't always feel good in the moment.
But if you're paying attention — or if you have an astrologer like me to pay attention for you —astrology gives us a heads-up, a chance to notice and prepare, so we can choose how we respond. And that brings me back to the story I just shared—it's wild. Right before my 21st birthday, the universe handed me a choice.
Go out or stay in. And now, more than 20 years later, it's circled back, same day, similar setup. Only this time it wasn't about me, it was about my son, and I got to choose again. Let him go have fun or not. That's the thing. We always have a choice. So if you ever feel unsure about a choice you made, was it right?
Was it wrong? Should I have done things differently? The good news is you're likely to get another chance, and hopefully by the time that comes around, you've grown because that's what this is really all about. Not perfection, but evolution—learning to respond from a wiser place.
This is astrology in action. It's about patterns, moments that echo back. Not to punish us, but to offer another chance to respond with more awareness, to rise a little higher.
And speaking of rising above, right now we're entering a stretch of energy that might not feel very easy. Because in just a few days, we've got a powerful planetary standoff coming, Mars opposite Pluto. This is intense energy, and if you've been feeling a little more reactive, edgy, or quick to snap, you are not imagining it.
Mars is about drive action and how we go after what we want. Pluto is about power. Depth transformation, the deeper, darker stuff. And when these two planets face off, it can stir up tension, pressure, and power struggles, especially in close relationships or wherever these energies hit your chart. This opposition becomes exact on April 26th, at three degrees of Leo and Aquarius. So if you know your chart, look to wear three degrees of Leo and Aquarius fall, that's where this story is unfolding for you. For me, this energy is lighting up my first and seventh houses, the House of self and the House of partnership. For me, it's been showing up in one-on-one relationships, like the one between my husband and me. The last time Mars and Pluto opposed each other was around Halloween and again, right around New Year's Eve. Thankfully, this is the final round for now. Looking back, I can definitely feel the pattern. Let's say New Year's Eve wasn't exactly our most harmonious day, but here's what's different now.
I know it's coming and that awareness changes everything.
In fact, just last Friday, when Mars moved from Cancer into Leo, I felt it immediately. Sometimes you really can feel the shift, the moment a planet changes signs. I. That day, I was irritated by things at work that generally wouldn't have phased me. Emails rubbed me the wrong way, and I felt myself getting worked up.
Luckily, a friend called me at just the right moment. Thank you, Chantel. If you're listening for saving me from sending a Friday afternoon email, that was much better saved for Monday, because here's the truth, even when you know the astrology. Even when you're watching the patterns, you're still human.
Sometimes the energy is just enormous, and you won't always respond ideally. But astrology can help you catch yourself. It can help you pause. It can help you choose again and offer yourself and others more grace in the process. Because we're all moving through these cosmic weather patterns together.
They show up in different areas of life for each of us. So if you find yourself feeling more tense, more reactive, or if things feel a little off over the next week or so, know that it's not just you. Mars and Pluto are facing off in the sky. They're having a big fight. And that energy is real, but you get to choose how it shows up in your life.
You can fire off the email or take a breath. You can escalate the argument or walk away. You can go low or you can go high. Astrology doesn't take away your choices. It helps you see them more clearly. And that is a real gift. Thank you so much for listening. If you enjoyed this episode, I'd love it if you leave me a review.
It really helps more people find the show. And if you know someone who might be moving through something right now, share this episode with them.
