Mercury Retrograde in Pisces ~ Why You Feel Foggy & What It’s Clearing ✨
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
This week we’re talking Mercury Retrograde in Pisces — and why so many of us may be feeling foggy, reflective, emotional, or inward.
Mercury rules communication, technology, scheduling, and the way we think. When it turns retrograde, we notice the glitches. But this retrograde feels different.
In this episode, I share personal reflections from the Fire retrogrades of last year —through Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius. This year, Mercury Retrogrades are in Water signs: Pisces now, Cancer this summer, and Scorpio in the fall. Water doesn’t push. It processes.
With Mercury stationing just 8 degrees from 0° Aries — and turning direct on the Spring Equinox — this timing is powerful. Add in recent eclipse energy and the Saturn–Neptune shift into Aries, and it’s clear: this retrograde is about clearing emotional residue before a new beginning.
If you’re feeling drifty or unable to articulate, you’re not malfunctioning. You may be integrating.
Reflect. Release. Rest. We begin again soon.

Astrology isn't just about signs and symbols, it's a tool for navigating real life. Hello and welcome to Astrology with Alisa. I'm your host, Alisa Dixon, and I'm so glad you're here. Let's dive in.
This week has been an interesting one. I found myself feeling a lot of brain fog, being pulled into daydreaming, reflecting more than usual. Trying to be as present as possible with my family and finding that I need to put in headphones and play chill music to drown out distractions while I try to focus far more often than usual.
I've had some really interesting realizations, but then struggled to put them into words, even with the people closest to me who I really want to share them with. So I made a conscious decision this week to retreat a little more, to let my mind wander, to be okay with not being able to express myself the way I normally can.
And I'm talking normal day-to-day conversations, let alone the fact that I have this weekly podcast and my Sunday series on the Fun Astrology Podcast. Imagine this. Me, a podcaster. The only thing that connects my thoughts to you is my words. And I've really struggled to find them. So I decided the best way to move through this is to share that, because Mercury, the planet of thoughts, ideas, words, communication, has gone retrograde in Pisces, where it doesn't exactly perform well on the best day.
And I've talked recently about Mercury in Pisces, so that's not really what today is about. Instead, I'd like to share some reflections because I think they're interesting and I have a feeling you might relate to them too. Over the weekend, because my mind wasn't functioning the way I hoped it would, I needed inspiration.
I knew Mercury deserved an episode, especially since it rules the Virgo lunar eclipse we just had yesterday. So I decided to rewatch an Astro Bestie Chat I had recorded last summer, which, by the way, is a very Mercury retrograde thing to do. Going back, revisiting something from the past. And in that conversation, my friend Katie pointed out something I wanted to unpack a little more.
She said the sign Mercury is in as it retrogrades sets the flavor for that retrograde. And that got me thinking more broadly about Mercury itself, because Mercury itself is neutral. It absorbs the energy of whatever sign it's in or whatever planet it's with. That's how we experience Mercury through our natal Mercury placement and also where Mercury is in the sky as we move through life. Whatever sign Mercury is in, that shapes how we think, how we speak, how we process information.
And when Mercury goes retrograde, it doesn't change that flavor. It just gives us more opportunities to notice it because retrogrades bring the glitches, the miscommunications, issues with technology, computer crashes, emails sent too soon or not at all, appointments missed. Those moments where something goes sideways, and how we react to it depends on the sign Mercury is in.
In that video I watched, my friend Irena joked that when Mercury is in Leo, a tech snafu turns into a full dramatic production. Like, oh my gosh, what is happening? And that made me laugh because this week I had my own little Mercury retrograde tech moment. I went to go get a car wash, and for the first time in my life, the car wash malfunctioned.
It literally stopped with me inside. My car completely soaped up. It started again, then stopped again. And in true Mercury in Pisces fashion, I just sat there, kind of floating, trusting it would turn back on until I saw a car behind me that looked like it was still moving. And that snapped me back into reality.
I called the car wash from inside the car wash, afraid someone might plow into me. They didn't. Everything worked out and honestly, I forgot about it because Mercury is in Pisces. If this had happened during that Leo Mercury retrograde last summer, I probably would've called my husband immediately, posted about it, raised my voice, made it a whole big thing. But instead, I drifted and the whole experience floated right out of my brain until just now.
Very on brand for Mercury in Pisces. And that got me thinking about last year's retrogrades because we have three every year, sometimes four, but usually three. Last year, all three were in fire signs. Aries in March and April. Leo in July and August. Sagittarius in late October through November. And when I reflect on those months, I did things and then redid things because fire signs need action, movement, momentum, something happening during the Aries retrograde.
I launched this podcast in a very Aries way. Ready, fire, aim. Yes, you heard that order correctly. Aries doesn't think. It moves. I didn't have a full framework. I just started. Action first, reflection second. And another example: last year I had started competing with Lily doing Ninja.
And during that Mercury retrograde in Aries, I very abruptly realized, with Mars-style rips in my hands, that I had absolutely no business competing on a ninja course. That is her thing, not mine. So I regrouped and reclaimed my spot on the sidelines as her number one cheerleader.
Then during the Mercury retrograde in Leo, I revisited a crochet project that hadn't gone well the first time. I had set a goal months earlier to make a beautiful sweater for myself. That was an epic fail, and during that Mercury retrograde in Leo, I went back, I redid it, I finished it, and I wore it to my brother's rehearsal dinner that fall.
Leo is self-expression, authenticity, confidence, a bold splash of color, feeling good in what you wear. So it makes perfect sense that this retrograde had me reworking how I wanted to show up. It wasn't just about a sweater. It was about how I wanted to express myself.
Then during the Sagittarius Mercury retrograde, everything centered on my kids and their activities. They both had settled into their respective sports. Will was fully committed to his top travel soccer team as a goalkeeper, and Lily had stepped away from soccer to prioritize Ninja and dance.
But during that Mercury retrograde in Sagittarius, things shifted. Will made his school basketball team and Lily realized she missed soccer and wanted to be back on a team. So that month we were finding supplemental soccer tryouts for Lily and figuring out how to manage Will's suddenly, absolutely insane schedule of soccer and basketball.
Very Mercurial themes. Scheduling, coordination, short-distance travel, movement. And Sagittarius? Well, that's sports, motion, expansion. And here's the part I love, where astrology becomes so literal.
Both of my kids have Sagittarius moons. So my Mercury retrograde in Sagittarius was all about them, these Sag Moon kids. And for them, their emotions were directly tied to the activities they felt called toward. Their Sag Moon feelings sparked real-world change, and it caused all of us to rethink and rework how we were going to do all the things.
You notice the theme? Last year I acted and reacted. Mercury retrograde in the fire signs required movement.
But this year, Mercury is retrograding in the water signs. Pisces now. Cancer this summer. Scorpio in the fall. And water signs don't want action. They need reflection for processing, for emotional integration. They need quiet, retreat, safe space.
Pisces especially. Pisces is the tail end of the zodiac. The very last chapter. The place where everything dissolves back into the ocean.
Mercury stationed retrograde last week at 22 degrees Pisces, only eight degrees from zero Aries, eight degrees from the very beginning again. That's not random. With all the action we took and retook last year, Mercury now has us standing still, lingering, replaying, feeling.
This is the same area of our charts where Saturn has been for the last two and a half years and where Neptune has been for the last 14. Last week we talked about this massive new beginning with Saturn and Neptune at zero Aries. It's exciting, but Mercury is holding us in Pisces just a little longer before the leap, before we strike that match because there is something we have to process first.
And the timing couldn't be more perfect. The Sun moves to zero Aries on March 20th, the Spring Equinox, the astrological new year, the very same day Mercury turns direct. That's not a coincidence. That's choreography. Intentional timing in the sky.
Mercury retrograde in Pisces is asking us to release something, to clear something, to feel something all the way through so that it doesn't follow us into the next chapter and weigh us down.
The eclipses this month may have shown you what that is. Eclipses accelerate endings. They interrupt patterns. They stop something that was in motion. And this is South Node eclipse energy. South Node releases. Pisces releases. Late-degree lunations release. That's what all the new moons have been since the fall.
There is clearing happening, and it's layered.
Here's what I want to invite you into. We have a few more weeks of Mercury retrograde in Pisces. During this time, think back to those fire sign Mercury retrogrades from last year: March and April, July and August, November. What were you doing and redoing?
Where are Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius in your chart? What houses do they rule? What was happening there?
And now ask yourself, does anything feel unfinished? What feels ready to dissolve? Because this Mercury retrograde in Pisces, it's in the last sign of the zodiac. It is about completion. Letting go, adapting, surrendering what no longer fits.
And Mercury retrograde here, ruling a South Node eclipse this week right before the Spring Equinox, these layers are not subtle. They are asking us to sit with our experience, to feel what is true deep inside so we know how to move forward.
So if you are feeling foggy right now, drifty, emotional, unable to articulate, that may not be a malfunction. It may be medicine.
📍 So put those headphones in, play the Zen music, choose fewer conversations. Take the mental retreat. Reflect on this past year. And let yourself drift a little, because when Mercury moves forward and the Sun crosses into Aries, we begin again and we begin lighter and ready to go.
All right, you guys, I made it through this week's episode. Send me some good vibes that Mercury gives me a few more words over the next couple of weeks here every Wednesday and on the Fun Astrology Podcast every Sunday.
And if you're noticing themes of your own, I'd love to hear them. Reach out and share. I love hearing from you. As always, I love and appreciate you all. Thanks again for listening. Take care, and I'll see you next time.
