What happens when you stumble upon two Geminis deep in conversation and hit record?

At the NORWAC Astrology Conference, I found myself in an entirely unplanned late-night conversation with astrologers Colin Bedell and Skye Barclay. What started as a casual chat in the hotel lobby quickly turned into one of the most Gemini conversations I've ever experienced.

Fast-paced, full of laughter, interruptions, side tangents, unexpected connections, and moments of genuine insight, this conversation became a perfect example of Gemini energy in real life.

Even more fitting? It all happened on the night of the Sun-Uranus conjunction in Gemini.

In this episode you'll hear:
✨ Gemini energy in action
✨ Astrology in real life
✨ Spontaneous insights and unexpected connections

📍 Astrology isn't just about signs and symbols, it's a tool for navigating real life. Hello and welcome to Astrology with Alisa. I'm your host Alisa Dixon, and I'm so glad you're here. Let's dive in.

So a few weeks ago at NORWAC, one of my favorite experiences of the entire weekend was completely unplanned. It was a conversation that happened late at night as I was walking through the hotel lobby. I stumbled upon two Geminis deep in conversation, and not only did I join the conversation, I spontaneously recorded it. You guys, this is one of the most Gemini conversations I have ever experienced in real life. It's fast, it's full of laughter, full of interruptions, side tangents, unexpected connections, and those little moments of insight that seem to come completely out of nowhere, and it all happened on the night of the Sun-Uranus conjunction in Gemini. Honestly, this conversation is astrology in real life. Gemini energy at its best. So what you're about to hear is my impromptu conversation with Colin Bedell, a New York astrologer who is the creator of Queer Cosmos and this year's NORWAC emcee, and Sky Barclay, another New York-based astrologer, who goes by Sky Astrology. I'll put information for both of them in the show notes, and if you'd like to watch the video version, that will be on YouTube as well. I hope you enjoy Colin, Sky, and all the Gemini energy as much as I did.

Alisa:
Okay, first of all, hello. This is Alisa Dixon of Astrology with Alisa, and I am at NORWAC.

No, I'm not at UAC.

Colin:
You're at NORWAC.

Alisa:
I'm at NORWAC 2026. I'm going to UAC in September.

Colin:
That's right.

Alisa:
Which is why I got things confused.

But I'm so excited. I am here at NORWAC in Seattle meeting all kinds of amazing astrologers.

And what time is it?

Colin:
It's about 10:50 at night.

Alisa:
It's super late. It feels like 2:00 AM to me.

Colin:
We're gabbin'.

Alisa:
I walked in on an interview and thought, "I need to get in on this."

I need to be the one doing an interview too.

Colin:
Aries woman.

Alisa:
Yes, I am an Aries woman. Capricorn Moon. Capricorn Rising. Aries Sun.

Colin:
She's about that business.

Alisa:
Well, I did lose the blazer. I was wearing a blazer when I first came over.

Skye:
It looked so good, you guys.

Alisa:
Thank you.

Colin:
Shoulder pads.

Alisa:
There were no shoulder pads.

Colin:
Excuse me.

Alisa:
No shoulder pads.

These are natural.

Colin:
Guys, this is a serious astrology podcast. Can we be serious, please?

Alisa:
I know. He knows I'm all business.

But they were just talking about how, with all their Gemini energy, they can't take anything too seriously.

Colin:
Please don't.

Alisa:
So first of all, introduce yourselves.

This is a big deal.

You go first, Skye.

Skye:
Hi. My name is Skye.

I go by Skye Astrology online.

I've been studying astrology for over a decade, but seriously since 2020.

I'm starting my professional astrology journey this year.

I also do social media for the Association of Young Astrologers.

Alisa:
Wait. You do social media?

Maybe you can help me with mine.

Colin:
Connections.

Alisa:
This is uncomfortable for me.

Colin:
The original NORWAC slogan was "Where Connections Are Made."

And honestly, that's what this conference is all about.

Alisa:
It really is.

Colin:
It's community.

It's connection.

It's exactly what's happening right now.

Alisa:
Okay, Skye. Keep going.

Tell us more about yourself.

Skye:
That's mostly it.

I study traditional astrology.

I love helping people understand the planets in a practical way.

I use a lot of metaphors.

I want astrology to be something people can actually use in everyday life.

Alisa:
That's exactly what I do.

Practical astrology.

Astrology for real life.

Skye:
Yes.

Colin:
And that's your thing.

Alisa:
That's my thing.

Colin:
And clearly it works.

Thousands of people tune in every week.

People tell you that you've changed their lives.

That's useful.

Alisa:
Okay, fair.

Skye:
Very useful.

Alisa:
So what's your Sun, Moon, and Rising?

Skye:
Gemini Sun.

Gemini Moon.

Scorpio Rising.

Alisa:
Double Gemini.

Wow.

No wonder.

Skye:
Yeah.

Alisa:
I definitely walked into a lot of Gemini energy tonight.

Colin:
Careful.

That sounds dangerous.

Alisa:
Maybe it is.

We'll find out.

Now, Colin.

Introduce yourself.

Colin:
I'm Colin Bedell.

Gemini Sun.

Capricorn Moon.

Leo Rising.

Skye and I are both New York astrologers.

That's me.

Alisa:
I think most people know who you are.

Actually, Claude told me I needed to meet you.

Colin:
Wait.

What?

Alisa:
Seriously.

My husband asked Claude how I should prepare for NORWAC.

Who should I meet?

Who should I interview?

Who should I connect with?

And your name was at the top of the list.

Colin:
That's wild.

Alisa:
So naturally I was a little intimidated.

Until I met you.

And then I realized you're fun and approachable.

Skye:
He does look approachable.

Colin:
I was dressed as Rick Levine earlier.

Alisa:
Which was hilarious. I have to get a picture of that for context.

But here's the thing.

Your version was actually more subdued than Rick's.

His outfit was louder than yours.

And honestly, that feels backwards.

Colin:
Well, it was Rick's couture.

I told him to choose.

Alisa:
Wait.

So that was intentional?

Colin:
Absolutely.

Would I ever want an Aries to feel like they weren't number one?

Alisa:
Is that what you're doing for me right now?

Colin:
When you came in wearing that blazer and that perfume, I immediately said, "Sit right here."

Skye:
We did.

We didn't even hesitate.

Alisa:
I honestly thought you were live streaming and I was panicking.

Colin:
Capricorn.

Relax.

Alisa:
Then I realized you weren't live and I thought, okay, maybe I can do this.

Colin:
And now look at you.

You pulled out the microphone.

Alisa:
I know.

It's chaos.

I guess Claude predicted all of this.

Colin:
Apparently.

Alisa:
You really were at the top of the list though.

Colin:
Who else was on it?

Alisa:
Rebecca Gordon.

Colin:
Of course.

Alisa:
But she's not here.

And there were a few others.

Honestly, I don't remember because it's late.

Colin:
You'll have to put it in the show notes.

Alisa:
Maybe I will.

"People Claude told me to meet."

Colin:
Exactly.

Find out if you made the list.

Alisa:
So let's get back to what we were talking about.

We actually had a topic before we got distracted.

Colin:
We did.

Alisa:
Capricorn Moon.

That's where we were.

Because your Capricorn Moon expresses very differently than mine.

Colin:
You're looking for it.

Like, "Are you sure it's there?"

Alisa:
Exactly.

Because you're not exactly what I picture when I think Capricorn Moon.

Colin:
The Capricorn Moon comes out through the Sixth House.

That's where it lives.

Alisa:
Which is perfect because Colin has been trying to get a Sixth House lecture accepted at conferences forever.

And nobody keeps saying yes.

Colin:
They keep rejecting my Sixth House lecture.

Alisa:
Well, I say yes.

Let's do the lecture right now.

Colin:
Thank you.

Finally.

Skye:
Actually, what's interesting is the Sixth House synastry happening here.

Alisa:
Okay.

Go.

Explain.

Skye:
You're a Capricorn Rising.

Which means Gemini is your Sixth House.

Alisa:
Correct.

Skye:
And Colin is a Gemini Sun.

So Gemini is literally showing up as a Sixth House topic for you.

Then Colin is a Leo Rising, which means Capricorn is his Sixth House.

So your Ascendant falls into his Sixth House symbolism.

And now the entire conversation has become about Sixth House topics.

Alisa:
Okay, that's actually incredible.

Colin:
A coincidence is God's way of remaining anonymous.

Alisa:
Wait.

What?

Say that again.

Colin:
A coincidence is God's way of remaining anonymous.

Alisa:
I don't believe in coincidences.

Skye:
Not here.

Definitely not here.

Colin:
And look at what Skye just did.

It's almost eleven o'clock at night and she's still connecting all the dots.

Alisa:
Seriously.

Where is the Capricorn Moon?

Because none of this feels sleepy.

Skye:
Well, the Capricorn Moon shows up in the work.

And that's actually part of why Colin has been so successful.

The chart ruler is in the Eleventh House.

That's audience building.

Community building.

But the Moon is in the Sixth House.

That creates a need for consistency.

A need to show up.

To keep doing the work.

Colin:
Which I've been doing for nine years.

Skye:
Exactly.

You don't build an audience without showing up consistently.

Colin:
Nine years.

Actually my first NORWAC was in 2016.

Alisa:
Wow.

Skye:
That's almost a full nodal cycle.

Colin:
Yeah.

And it's been a grind.

But a good grind.

Skye:
That's the Sixth House.

It's not glamorous.

But it's what makes everything else possible.

Alisa:
Okay.

Now I understand why you're obsessed with the Sixth House.

Skye:
Well, it's also an interesting combination because you're one of the people who has built such a large audience.

Your chart ruler is in the Eleventh House, which is all about audience building and community.

But your Moon is in the Sixth House.

So there's this emotional need to keep showing up.

To stay consistent.

To keep doing the work.

And those two things together are a really powerful combination for social media.

Because you can't build an audience if you don't consistently show up.

Colin:
Exactly.

And I've been doing that for nine years.

Alisa:
Nine years.

Wow.

Skye:
That's almost a full nodal cycle.

Colin:
Yeah.

My first NORWAC was in 2016.

So it's been a long road.

But it's been worth it.

Skye:
It takes time.

That's one thing people don't always see.

They see the audience now.

They don't see the years of consistency.

Colin:
Exactly.

And honestly, all I've ever wanted was to help people connect with astrology in a meaningful way.

That's always been the goal.

Alisa:
Wait.

You started around your Saturn return, didn't you?

Colin:
Pretty much.

Just before it.

Saturn was at the end of Sagittarius and moving into Capricorn.

And that's when I really committed.

Skye:
And that's another interesting piece.

Because depending on the house system, that was either a Fifth House or Sixth House Saturn return.

But either way, it speaks to the work.

The dedication.

The commitment.

Alisa:
I've noticed that a lot of the astrologers I've met here are very traditional astrologers.

And honestly, I've had to adjust my brain a little bit.

Because I mostly work with Placidus.

Colin:
Right.

Skye:
And that's okay.

They're just different languages.

There's no right or wrong.

Alisa:
Exactly.

The first night I got here I was talking with Madeline DeCotes.

And she started asking me questions about my chart.

And I completely froze.

Colin:
Why?

Alisa:
Because I couldn't remember which house system she was using.

And suddenly I couldn't answer basic questions about my own chart.

Colin:
You were jet-lagged.

Alisa:
I was exhausted.

I had been up since three in the morning.

Colin:
You were looking for your pillow, not your house placements.

Alisa:
Exactly.

I know my chart.

I just couldn't remember which version of my chart we were talking about.

Skye:
That's completely fair.

Alisa:
Thankfully I slept.

And now here I am.

Still awake at eleven o'clock at night somehow.

Doing this.

Colin:
And doing great.

Alisa:
Honestly, this is very outside my comfort zone.

Colin:
I know.

But you're doing it anyway.

Alisa:
Well, Claude told me to.

Colin:
There it is.

Alisa:
My husband asked Claude how I should prepare for NORWAC.

So now I feel obligated.

Colin:
As you should.

Alisa:
And honestly, I'm really glad I listened.

Because look what happened.

I came downstairs looking for my friend Catherine.

And instead I found the two of you recording.

Skye:
Exactly.

One small decision.

One conversation.

And now we're all sitting here together.

Alisa:
Which feels very Gemini.

Skye:
Very Gemini.

Alisa:
Okay.

Let's go back to the Sixth House thing for a second.

Because I think people are going to find this fascinating.

You were saying I'm a Capricorn Rising.

So Gemini rules my Sixth House.

And Colin is a Gemini.

Skye:
Right.

And Colin is a Leo Rising.

Which means Capricorn is his Sixth House.

So the two of you naturally activate each other's Sixth House themes.

Work.

Service.

Skills.

Daily practice.

Showing up.

Alisa:
And somehow that's exactly what this conversation became.

Skye:
Exactly.

Alisa:
Wait.

What's your birthday?

Colin:
Sunday.

Alisa:
Oh my God.

You haven't even had your birthday yet.

Have you looked at your solar return?

Colin:
No.

I wait until I cross the threshold.

Alisa:
Really?

Colin:
Yeah.

I try not to doom-scroll my solar return.

Alisa:
That's actually very healthy.

Skye:
It's also one of the most beautiful days astrologically this year.

Colin:
That's good to hear.

Skye:
I'm actually electing something on your birthday.

Alisa:
What are you launching?

Skye:
My website.

My business officially goes live.

Alisa:
Wow.

That's amazing.

Skye:
And the Virgo Moon that day is one of the reasons I chose it.

Alisa:
Okay, now I'm curious.

Tell him about his solar return.

Skye:
Well, first of all, Mercury is going to be huge.

You have Mercury in Gemini.

It's incredibly strong.

And Mercury becomes one of the dominant themes of the year.

Communication.

Teaching.

Writing.

Learning.

Connecting.

All of those Mercurial themes become louder.

Colin:
That definitely feels right.

Skye:
And because you're a Gemini Sun, Mercury matters even more.

When Mercury is strong, part of your natal promise gets activated.

Alisa:
I love that phrase.

Natal promise.

Skye:
Because not everything in the chart activates at once.

Certain periods of life bring certain promises forward.

And this looks like one of those periods.

Colin:
Interesting.

Skye:
The second house is also emphasized.

Which means money.

Resources.

Value.

What you build.

What supports you.

And because of the condition of Mercury, this isn't just about finances.

It's about creating value through communication.

Through ideas.

Through teaching.

Through your voice.

Alisa:
That feels very Colin.

Skye:
Exactly.

And the reason I keep coming back to Mercury is because it's showing up everywhere.

When you see the same theme repeated over and over in a chart—

Solar return.

Profections.

Transits.

Natal chart.

—that's when you know it's important.

Alisa:
If it keeps repeating, pay attention.

Skye:
Exactly.

That's one of the biggest things astrology teaches.

Patterns.

When the same message appears multiple times, it's speaking louder.

Colin:
I love that.

Alisa:
Me too.

And honestly, you're doing all of this in your head right now.

Which is kind of incredible.

Skye:
I'm just excited.

Colin:
No, you're in your zone of genius.

This is what it looks like when someone is completely in their craft.

Then the conversation shifts into the Sixth House lecture (one of the best parts)

Alisa:
Okay.

Let's go back to this Sixth House lecture.

Because I think people overlook the Sixth House.

Skye:
They absolutely do.

People want to talk about the Tenth House because they want career success.

People want to talk about the Second House because they want money.

But nobody wants to talk about the Sixth House.

And that's a mistake.

Colin:
Exactly.

Because if you want the Tenth House outcome—

career recognition—

and you want the Second House outcome—

money—

you have to go through the Sixth House.

Skye:
The Sixth House is the work.

The habits.

The consistency.

The daily actions.

The things you don't necessarily feel like doing.

Colin:
It's astrology as a verb.

Not astrology as an idea.

Skye:
Exactly.

It's the place where Mars rejoices.

You have to do the thing.

Alisa:
That might be the best Sixth House explanation I've ever heard.

Colin:
Thank you.

I've only been trying to give this lecture for years.

Skye:
Honestly, if people are listening to this and they're wondering why their goals aren't happening—

look at the Sixth House.

The Sixth House supports everything else.

Colin:

Everything depends on it.
