I'm Tim D. Tellis. Welcome to Jesus Guys, a discipleship lifestyle brought to you by menofbravery.com. This is week number eight in our 10-part series. And this week's emphasis is on the question, why did Jesus come to earth? It's become very popular to ask the question, do you know your why? Or to understand the why behind the why. And wondering why did Jesus come to earth is a great question. And as we are followers of Christ, as we are discipled by Jesus and we are Jesus guys observing the teachings of Jesus and looking into the lives of those that followed him the closest, the disciples, the Jesus guys, we can begin to understand the why. The why behind the why. I want to turn to Mark chapter 10. I'm going to summarize briefly verses 41 through 45. It is the first reading for this week in week number eight. You can read all the scriptures each day at JesusGys.com. They're also listed in the show notes. But in this scripture, it tells us that Jesus, for even the Son of Man, did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. But why did Jesus come? He came to serve. On the second day of our reading, we learn that Jesus came to seek and save the lost. Knowing the why Jesus came to earth helps us understand the why we follow Jesus. He came to serve, but then we then become his servants. He came to seek and save the lost. Then we become those that go out and seek and find. And I think it's important to understand the why behind the why, because it also makes us understand why we are seeking Jesus and his kingdom above all else. The most popular verse I would probably say this week that you'll read that you already know is for God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son. For God so loved the world that he gave. But what's interesting about the belief in this idea that God gave us Jesus is that it was a gift that then we would also share with others. You see, discipleship is not just what's in it for me, it's what's in it for others that we know that we need to introduce Jesus to. Why did Jesus come? Because he wanted to start a movement of followers that would go out and find more followers. It was really the fisherman analogy was perfect to the idea of what discipleship looked like, that we would, you know, mend and wash our nets and prepare for a journey to go out and fish, but then we would go out and fish and find other people that did not yet know Jesus. And this is a big common theme in the life of Christ. In the readings this week, we're also going to dive into what it means to be children of God and observe the exhaustion that Jesus experienced in his sacrifice and his giving of his life, because for God so loved the world, he gave, but then that wasn't a gift that was easy for Jesus to fulfill. And then we'll end the week talking about the burial of Jesus as you read in Matthew chapter 27. But here's a question I want to leave us with today as we consider the why and the why behind the why. If you and I had to ask ourselves, why do you follow Jesus? It would be a question I would like to kind of simmer on a little bit, because one of the things that I have looked at in the readings of the Gospels and the lives of the disciples is that they sure did have a lot to lose. And as the followers of Jesus, they were almost considered the lunatics. They were the outcasts, they were the misfits. And in the process of that, though, they ended up receiving the teachings that changed the world. And so I'm going to share with you my why. It doesn't have to be your why, and I hope and pray that you will ponder this week. You know, what is your why? Why do you follow Jesus? And and my why is I hope that we can make an impact and change the world. Because the fastest way to change the world is to introduce others to Jesus. Because Jesus comes to give life, he is the way, the truth, and the life, and he is the literal bridge between us and a relationship with God. There is no way to the Father but through him. And Jesus is the Prince of Peace. So he brings peace into our lives in a world of absolute chaos. And so I need Jesus. But I know others need Jesus too. And so this week, as we ponder, you know, why did Jesus come to earth? Let's also ask the question why did we follow Jesus? So thanks for listening to Jesus Guys. Again, you can read the scriptures each day at JesusGuys.com. There's also a song for you to enjoy at JesusGuys.com. And thanks for being on this journey as we follow Jesus. We listen to his teachings and we observe the lives of those that were closest to him, the Jesus Guys. Until next time. Thanks for being a follower of Jesus.
