Welcoming God
Hey spiritual seeker! My name’s Sarah Haykel and I’m the host of Welcoming God, a podcast for spiritual seekers.
In this podcast, I’ll be sharing the goodness of Welcoming God back into my life after years of rebelling against the God of my Catholic upbringing and years of honest seeking on a personal spiritual path. I’ll share my consistently evolving understanding of God and what I’m learning on the path, to help create a God accessible to the every day person.
We’ll have honest and sometimes hilarious conversations about how to go from being a “spiritual” person to a God-loving person. Understanding God as a benevolent guide. What does it mean to have a relationship with God? What does it mean to surrender to God? Cultivating a spiritually mature understanding of God. Learning how to discern God’s truth and will for our lives. How to cultivate the most important relationship you’ll ever have, with God, on a daily, moment to moment basis.
Come along on this spiritually rEvolutionary journey where we get to know God.
This podcast is marked as explicit because there may be swearing or content appropriate for mature audiences in some of the episodes.

Manifesting With God: Wanting What's Right For Me
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Manifesting sounds like an empowering tool, but what happens when you manifest something that's not actually right for you or good for the whole of life?
I’m Sarah, and today I’m getting honest about jealousy, envy, and covetousness, plus the emotional hangover that can come from chasing a desire that isn’t actually aligned with our life or God’s will for us! Powerful stuff.
I reflect on a simple line I once heard from Eckhart Tolle: “Don’t want what you don’t need.” Then I hold that next to a story from Tosha Silver about a woman who gets the house she’s been longing for with a string of tragedies. It raises a question we don’t ask enough in modern spirituality: at what cost? We can still want good things, take action, and build a beautiful life, but I’m learning to bring my wants into prayer with humility: “God, if this is right for me, guide me to the right home, the right partner, the right work.” That shift turns controlling energy into cooperation, and it makes room for something better than what I could possibly create or make up for myself!
We also talk about the darker side of envy when it becomes shame, the voice that says, “Why don’t I have this yet? What’s wrong with me?” I share why those thoughts are powerful material for therapy and Internal Family Systems (IFS), and how a simple reframe question from Access Consciousness helps me stay open: “How can it get any better than this?” Add one more line and it becomes a daily prayer: “God, show me!”
If you’ve been stuck in comparison or trying to “manifest” your way out of discomfort, come listen and take a break from it all with me. Subscribe wherever you listen, share this with a friend, and leave a review so more spiritual seekers can find the show.

Content Warning And Welcome
SPEAKER_00Hey everyone, Sarah here. Just to let you know, sometimes I do use swear words in these episodes, and we may at times discuss adult content. In case you happen to be listening around little ones or people that won't appreciate that. Thanks so much for listening, and let's get right into it. Hi, and thanks for joining me on Welcoming God.
Jealousy Envy And “Manifesting”
SPEAKER_00We are talking about jealousy and envy and covetousness in this new season of the Welcoming God podcast. And I want to talk specifically in this episode about manifesting, quote unquote, manifesting, um, coveting, or you know, just being mindful of what we are wanting. I remember hearing Eckhart Tolle answer a question to a young woman who asked about romantic relationships. And his response was, don't want what you don't need. So I'm gonna say that again. Don't want what you don't need. And this is a powerful message for all of us because it relates to any any aspect of life. Um I know, you know, people like have different aspects. We have different aspects to our personalities, we have different gifts. Um, I have learned a little bit about human design, and I loved learning about my um main design because it helped me understand why things weren't working when I was trying certain approaches in my life and who I needed to be more of to allow life to flow more and to feel better. And it didn't mean that I was, it wasn't like all or none. It was like there is a flow, there is, you know, there is a time for action, there's a time for rest, there's a time for allowing, there's a time for receiving and giving. And um, so all of the different types in the human design have different aspects to them. So you might be a manifester or a generator or a manifesting generator or a projector. Um, I there might be another type. I'm not an expert on it. So I'm not here to teach you about human design, but um I thought it was very insightful for me once I learned more about my personality type in that model.
When Desire Turns Costly
SPEAKER_00And um, you know, what I recognize is that I think of this story that I've read in Tosha Silver's book, and I'm trying to remember the name. Um it's not thank um, it's not thank me prayers or something like that. It's it's one of her books. I'll leave it in the show notes. Um, but uh, she writes a story about this woman that manifests the house and she finally gets the house. But like through the process of getting the house, all of these unforeseen things happen. And I think she may have asked Tosha, like, did I cause this by my like sincere desire to have this house? And she said, Maybe like, you know, your severe desire to have this house may have been the cause of some of these uh unforeseen, uh challenging, funky, hard uh experiences that you've had going through this process. And that feels like a warning, you know, and and that feels like a warning for covetousness because we can want what others have. And at what cost, you know, what what is that really all about? What about wanting what is right for us? You know, every individual, there is something at every time of your life that is going to be right for you. It's individual, it's specific to every human. And we can see something and say, Yes, I love that, you know, I want something like that. And then I go to the question, God, is that in your perfect will for me? Or God, if that is in your perfect will for me, please guide me to the right home, the right partner, the right work, whatever it is for the right support, the right friends, the right extracurricular activities, whatever it is. Um, it could be down to just specific things, the right dance classes, the right food, the um right mentor, the right social group, the right church, you know, whatever. Um guide, please guide me to that, God. Show me the way. Show me the way. And how how powerful is it to put it in God's hands, not put it in our hands as humans, who we have to co-create with God. We're not just sitting here in lotus position, just receiving, receiving, receiving. I mean, some people might be, but I don't think that's the majority of us. We we need to actually do some stuff, you know, we have to be co-creators with the one true source. So it's like, how powerful is that to give it to God and ask for God's direction, ask for God's insights, ask for God's clarity, and just keep asking, keep communicating with the one true source as you see it, understand it, experience it. So this is a powerful reframe or repositioning when it comes to manifesting, because you know, I mean, the secret came out many years ago, but like that concept is still very prevalent. Manifested, I manifested this, yeah, you know, and it's like, um, okay, what does that really mean? At what cost? Okay, how does it feel now? You know, how does it impact others? Like, I just always, at this stage in my life, I want what God wants and has and is right for me and the whole. Um, because like I spoke about in the episode before this one, episode one of season six, that, you know, what God has for me is way better than what I could dream up or of or create for myself. So this is one aspect of this conversation that I wanted to highlight today.
Let God Guide What’s Right
SPEAKER_00Something else that I've learned that has been so helpful for me, especially to get me out of the funky thoughts, like, uh, why don't I have this yet? Oh, why don't I have that? What's wrong with me? You know, that's where my parts can take it. What's wrong with me? Why don't I have this? Oh, I'm fucked up. I'm this, I'm that. It's like, no, you know, well, okay, so there might be parts of me or us that feel these different things or have these beliefs in their system. That's powerful fodder to bring to a therapy session, to bring to an IFS practitioner to talk about this stuff. Say, gosh, I really got in touch with this old thought, like something's wrong. Something must be wrong with me, or, you know, I'm messed up, I'm fucked up, there's something wrong here. Why don't I have these things that I've been working so hard for? And then you can start working through where do those old beliefs come from? How have they served you in the past? Um, how might what might a new belief be that this part wants to take on or that you want to invite into your system? What old beliefs do you want to let go of? Um, and you can ask God for support in this process as well. Um, so a really powerful reframe question that invites and opens us to more of the greatness, goodness that God has and wants for us. I learned through Janeth Blackert, who I believe got it from Access Consciousness. Um, and it was, how can it get any better than this? And we can ask though that in moments of joy and elation. And we can also ask that in moments where not much is happening. Like, wow, what peace have I been gifted in this moment? God, how will it get any better than this? And then my twin sister and someone else just also said this to me recently. We can add on to that, show me, show us, show us all, all of creation, how this is gonna get better. How can this get better? God, show me, show us. And then we just open and move along our day and keep it moving. I find this question really sets me up to stay open to the flow of God for me and my life for the greater good of all, with the least amount of suffering and the most amount of joy in all spaces, places, times, dimensions, and realities. And that's a prayer that I learned from my former spiritual
Reframing Shame With Real Support
SPEAKER_00coach. And, you know, then we just keep going. So I'm gonna leave you with these thoughts today. And how will you take some time to just be with some of these ideas, some of these concepts? You know, seek out support if you need it, if this is highly triggering for you through therapy, counseling, uh, spiritual director, spiritual coach, um, trusted friend, mentor, confidant, you know, talk to God about it, get some support. Uh, you can journal about it, but how will you and when will you take just a few moments, a few minutes in the car? You know, when you're waiting for your kid who's in some sports thing, or when you're getting ready for work in the morning or before you go to bed at night? When will you just take a few moments to contemplate and inquire around some of these ideas, thoughts, and see what's there for you? So we are going to end here for today. There will be one
