MLB Trade Deadline Deals - Yankees Improve But the Mets Win the Deadline
This year's Major League trade deadline featured a lot of teams making moves either to improve their roster for the final two months of the regular season, or to sell off some of their top players to get players in return who will help in the future.
In the case of the San Diego Padres, they were both buyers and sellers at the deadline with a dizzying series of moves.
The Yankees needed to fill a lot of holes. A frontline starter would have been ideal, along with an arm or two for the bullpen, and with Aaron Judge sidelined for who-knows-how-long, a righty bat in the outfield would have helped.
The Yankees didn't get a starter, but they went and reshaped the bullpen, added an outfielder in Austin Slater, and brought in speedster Jose Caballero who can play multiple positions, including shortstop (despite his recent spree of home runs, Anthony Volpe is something of a liability both at the plate and in the field).
The Mets, though, may have made the best moves at the deadline, acquiring bullpen help and centerfielder Cedric Mullins from the Orioles.
